I was visiting Muncie for a work function and found Roots Burger Bar on Yelp. I started with the fried Brussels sprouts and they were very delicious. The spicy soy dressing was the perfect complement to the sprouts. For my entree, I ordered the PB&J burger with fries. I was very impressed by the delicious burger. I'm sure some might be appalled by having peanut butter and elderberry jam on a burger, but it is an awesome combination. I had a slice of cheesecake for dessert that was good, but not anything that was as amazing as the rest of the meal. The serving sizes are pretty big and the service was fast and friendly. Because of the health crisis, I don't think I got the full atmosphere of Roots, but I'll definitely be back next time I am in Muncie. read more

Our food was very good. However, the service was awful which I think is a huge part of going out. My friend and I were wanting to get out of the house, enjoy watching a football game, and drink beer. Our food came out extremely fast, which would be nice but I had not even touched my appetizer before our food arrived. We were extremely rushed by our server - he brought our bill within 10 minutes after we received our food. With that, we were not even done ordering by the time our bill came! You can order fried bologna, cod, burgers, wraps, salads, wings, nachos, seasoned fries, and much more. The atmospheric is fun, upbeat, and also laid back. Stopped by here on a Sunday for lunch. We had our 1.5 year old twins with us. Kid friendly restaurant and soo delicious. Do not waste your time or money. Our server was good but overall service needs training. We had to ask for straws and napkins..basic service. I ordered an Old Fashioned, the first one was ok. The second...they took off my bill. Their grease needs to be replaced. We had to send 2 meals back due to the chicken sandwiches not being edible. I had to pick off the breading to eat the inside of my tenderloin. Why would you serve food that looks burnt? My husband reminded me we are "on campus" which should not be an excuse. Had a good hamburger here! I was pregnant and some burgers are so greasy they really upset my stomach while I was pregnant, but this place had flavorful burgers without sacrificing quality of beef. Delicious and it was a lovely place for a date. Be aware though that there are a lot of college students to be expected since it's so close to ball state. read more

Mid afternoon Friday visit. Disappoininting. Got the lunch cod which was one very small sad piece (I should have taken a picture!) surrounded by a ton of tater tots (you get a choice of side). How can you mess up frying up a piece of fish? The cod was not good- very tough, dry, no flavor, definitely not worth $8 for that tiny piece of hard fish. Alternated soaking it in tartar sauce and malt vinegar to be able to eat it. I heard a waitress ask another table later if the cod was better so I guess I should have complained about mine. Too bad. The cauliflower "wings" were good. Enjoyed the carrot stick and ranch more though. You get free popcorn in a cute little bucket while you wait for your food. Overall, not impressed, wouldn't hurry back. Go during "slow" times if you want to try this place. I don't think it's worth the wait during busy Friday/Saturday night dinner time. read more

I hate leaving negative reviews and do everything I possibly can to resolve otherwise before doing so. Roots Burger Bar left me no other choice. I went into Roots and had 1 beer, and signed my check for $6.50 + $0.52 tax + 3.00 tip for a total of $10.02. I didn't learn until I got my credit card bill that I was charged $100.67. Naturally, I feel that it has to be a mistake, so I call and ask for the manager. I explain to him the situation, and he told me that he had no record for that amount. I asked him if I could show him my credit card bill to see if he can match something up. He just told me that he can't help me. Now I have to go through the process of disputing the charge, which is a pain. If he would have just listened to me and tried to help it would have been a lot easier for everyone. read more

A decent burger joint and sports bar. The fries were probably the best part of my order. Very rarely are fries done to a Goldilocks standard. The burger itself was ok though not as good as the fries. The weakness of the burger is with the meat itself, it lacks that explosion of flavor. The bun, just needs a little better of a toasting so that a good crunch is present though the way I got it was acceptable.If the burger itself was improved a bit more then I could see this joint worthy of being 4 stars and the talk of the town. Overall, not bad I was not disappointed. The prices were acceptable for this food. To be honest, not sure whether this new restaurant is worth coming back to. To start, service was great, friendly and accommodating. The major complaint I have with this business is not the team but more the taste of food. We grabbed an appetizer, decent side salads and a BBQ chicken sandwich to round out our experience. We also picked up some local beer and a mixed drink which both were just bland. For the prices they are charging, the restaurant should definitely get a better menu in place. They are being beat on both quality, options & price at numerous other local restaurants. Zero growlers were in stock as well, waitress claimed it was not very often to have in stock. amazing customer service. Inconsistant and lazy food. The food here is overall okay but I feel like there needs to be a quality check. For example my friend ordered a kickin chicken and the burger completely separated from chicken to crisps. It might has well been unbreaded chicken on a bun with a side of deep fried batter. Still tasty but not well thought through. I had the steak 2for5$ tacos and it was great although again it needed to be taste tested. The bluecheese conpletely overpowered the small taco. Maybe correct measurements and better food prep could bring this3 star to a 5. The staff was very friendly and despite the food earned themselves a great over all review. (Resteraunt Review: Roots Burger Bar). I went here a year ago after I saw Godzilla vs Kong with my friend and his Grandma. It's a small location but soooo good! The small place offers you casual seating with 4 or 5 Televisions displaying Sport events. The Service was also really good, we ordered our food and waited a short time for it. I ordered a Bacon Steak burger and dear God was it Juicy and delicious! The fries also added to the experience as they were perfectly seasoned and scrumptious. Once I finished I washed it down with a large coke and I was definitely satisfied. This place may be small and quaint but the food is out of this world. Nothing special by any stretch of the imagination. I grew up in Muncie, going to Scotty's Brewhouse in this same building location. I believe Root's Burger Bar is owned by the same person, Scott Wise. If you are looking for anything comparable to Scotty's Brewhouse, look elsewhere. I had high hopes, & was very disappointed. I ordered their Brussel sprouts, which were burnt to an absolute crisp. There were no menu items that excelled to stand out, or uniqueness to brag to family & friends about. The service is subpar, but they're more friendly than some other places I've attended on Ball State's campus. It isn't terrible, but I also wouldn't recommend it. Do better, Scotty! read more

Arrived 5:30 on Sunday night...wasn't very busy. 12 minutes for server to appear. Order taken at 5:43. Saw server once in next hour and 30 minutes. Order was wrong when we got it shortly after 7:00. Flagged down different server to get our check. Asked to not pay for my wife's burger as it was not what she had ordered...again after over an hour. All three orders in our party were wrong. Finally received check...nothing comped...barely an apology given...no tip left. We enjoyed it the first time we went a couple months ago, but after those experience we won't be returning and I would advise anyone else considering it for dinner to go somewhere else. I was a BIG fan of Scotty's, and my whole family was pretty sad when they closed down. I was in Muncie and a friend recommended I try the Roots (in the old Scotty's) for lunch. And I'm glad I did!! I had the Sloppy Jalopy with a Caesar salad, and both were fantastic. My food came out quick, and I would order it again in a heartbeat. Food was good but service was not. We got stared at by all the servers and waited 5-10 minutes to be greeted. Tables around us were getting greeted and got their drinks while we were waiting to be greeted. Afterwards we felt rushed. Pretty basic menu. The popcorn is almost always stale when I go to Roots, but I enjoy their food. I usually get the Impossible burger and it's always delicious. Service is sometimes a little odd- I've had servers tell me bad things about other servers working there which seems a little weird. I ordered the Melt (mushroom swiss burger) and it was dry, couldn't find any cheese, large cuts of onion and tomato, and only 2 or 3 pieces of mushrooms. Husband ordered the pepper jack burger and it had a good flavor but looked gross with a pile of cheese goo. My son had a basic cheese burger which he said was ok, not great. Daughter had chicken tenders that were "meh", but she ate them. Tots were standard tots and fries were thick seasoned fries-both were fine. Wings were dry and didn't have sauce at all. Service was ok (not bad, not great). I had heard very positive reviews and was excited to check this place out.
