I split a fried shrimp appetizer and truffle parmesan fries with my dad. (Yes, I was very hungry. lol) Everything was expertly and deliciously executed, and beautifully presented. Had a late lunch on a Thursday afternoon. As you walk in, there's an impressive bar to the right that stretches the length of the restaurant. The dining room has about 20 tables, no booths. The menu is fairly extensive and somewhat eclectic, nice to have options. Based on our server's Alex recommendation, we tried the arugula salad, best I've had at any restaurant, and turkey panini, also delicious. There's a nice selection of craft beer and full bar. Had lunch at this hidden strip mall spot. It was my second time there having had a business dinner there months ago. The vibe of this place is very hip and cool. There is a long, antique-ish bar with plenty of IPAs to offer. There is long strips of butcher paper on the walls with lists of the daily food and drink specials. I had the chop chop salad and chicken rice soup. The soup tasted like something my mother made. Chock full of homemade deliciousness! 3 Star=Good Roots is cool; ordered the salmon which came with cabbage and my daughter had the fish and chips. After ordering our entree we decided to get an app since we were starving; truffle fries and I'm glad we did. Like I said before the salmon just came with cabbage. The salmon was decent, it just needed something else. All meals at this price point should have a meat, vegetable, and starch. I feel if I didn't have those fries, something would have been missing. I did try the fish and chips (my daughter liked it, but she has an immature palette lol) she actually pulled the fish out of the breading. Good food and cocktails! I came in for Father's Day brunch with three companions. We were promptly seated on the porch. Drink orders came out quickly. I had eggs, bacon and pancakes. The bacon was under cooked, but the eggs and pancakes were good. A syrup container on the table would be good, instead of a small cup of it. My companion said the chicken fingers were off the hook. We called ahead and were able to secure a table for 8 people on short notice. The atmosphere is definitely gastropub style. Service: Service was slow. Our server couldn't keep track of what everyone ordered. The food also took over 45 minutes to come out. I understand that we were a large party, but the place was pretty empty otherwise. What can I say about Roots... good beer, good service, pretty good food! My husband and I usually drop in for some evening drinks on the weekends, and the bartenders have always been very friendly - I think Mike and Nicole were the most recent ones we've had the pleasure of interacting with. And when you have the opportunity to have small chats with the owner, it definitely makes you feel more welcome. 3 star service (Danny is terrific but the food came out rather slowly and we were on lunch break) 4 star food - upscale "gastropub" type bar food. I had been wanting to try Roots, and my group of 5 coworkers came for lunch - we only had an hour and lunch took easily 85 minutes. Next time we will advise the staff that we are on a tighter time frame. 3 of the crew had burgers and they looked terrific with any toppings you could want - cheddar, bacon, fried (a little over cooked for my liking) egg. I had the $10 lunch special of French Onion Soup ($6 on its own!) and a 1/2 sandwich (I chose the Chicken, Avocado and Pork Belly panini - yes, please!). Both were scrumptious - albeit caloric. Fish & Chips, Hangover burger, Soy ginger Salmon and (my go to favorite) the Short Rib Grilled cheese sandwich, is some kind of culinary voodoo. Take a walk by the kitchen and ponder on how they put out what they do in such a small space. Voodoo I tell ya. There's a rotating lineup of great beers on tap. They have the usual hop driven IPA's that will blow the back of your skull out but I stay towards the stout and pilsner end of the spectrum. This is a special place nestled behind Friendly's in Hillcrest plaza in East Norriton. It's cool, hip and trendy without trying to be. I was doubtful we would be back. We were hungry and that usually surpasses any feelings. We gave them another shot and the burger was excellent! Almost. If I order a med burger and my wife orders a medium well, we shouldn't get the same burger. Come on man, these are basic food preparation and cooking requirements. A real cook can touch the burger and know exactly what temp within a few degrees it is but more importantly how well done it will be based on when it was put on. The Hangover Burger we got (Lafrieda meat, sunny side egg, bacon) it was fantastic, it just wasn't cooked the way I asked. While I have been coming here regularly for dinner and lunch and always had a great experience, my experience at brunch today was subpar. The home fries and sausage I was served were stone cold, my eggs were lukewarm, and the chicken was unexpectedly hot enough to burn my lip and leave a blister. My server was perfectly pleasant and I have no complaints as far as the waitstaff goes, but I expect better than cold fries and sausage from a microwave from the kitchen staff for $15. Let's start with the BLT ---- it wasn't anything special w one slice of wilted lettuce on each half and regular wheat bread that fell apart- and soggy fries- yeah- big disappointment and have to say it sucked!!! (I make better BLT's at home)!!!!! Then the chx and waffles, they were okay nothing great either... kind of blah- and overly cooked potatoes , literally burnt potatoes. He wanted to try something different and it was a no go! Not satisfying and prob just dunked into old fry oil!!!! And lastly, the kids meal--- that wasn't a kid's portion, the scrambled eggs.... yeah it was just meh...and the sausage that is served, was just not cooked good, the potatoes--- that they served with this were basically huge chunks with no flavor.... I don't know what was even on them or how they are supposed to be served-- but they were horrible!!! The waitress on the other hand was okay. And the outside area definitely needs more then one umbrella. Bc it was just down right hot without one! I don't recommend this place and unfortunately it will be the first and last time for us! Finally got around to checking out the Sunday brunch  -- Really good! I've eaten here / visited the bar 4-5 times before, and it's always pretty good... but the brunch offerings were fantastic. The Bloody Mary bar was totally DIY, and had everything I'd want (other than old-bay) to make a great drink. The Dollar Pancakes were great, and the Spinach Benedict was incredible... Their hollandaise has some sort of lemon twang to it... not something I was expecting, but it was incredibly tasty. My girlfriend ordered the Huevos Rancheros, and they were super-tasty... the order got messed up a little so they remade the eggs, which resulted in the rest of the plate coming back out a little cold... but other than that, it was really good. We stumbled on this restaurant due to hunger in unfamiliar territory. It was in the strip mall we had just stopped at for other purpose. It was Sunday 1:58pm brunch hours ending at 2pm. We were given the brunch menu which suited us just fine. I later asked to look at lunch menu as my husband works near and really liked all his food. The prices for brunch I thought were reasonable at 23.00 for the 2 of us no tip included. The lunch menu was a mix with appetizers salads and sandwiches in my budget. Roots is located in the end of a strip mall that is right off of Germantown Pike. As you walk in a large bar lines the right side wall and tables fill the left side of the restaurant area. We sat at the bar and the bartender came over as soon as we sat down. He was extremely knowledgeable on the entire menu and beers available. They had 12 drafts and multiple bottles to choose from. After perusing the menu we settled on the spicy shrimp as our appetizer. It was just like the Bang Bang Shrimp from the Bonefish Grill but I will have to give the edge to Bonefish. After speaking with our bartender about the blend of meat they use for their burgers, that is was ground fresh and never frozen we had to try them. Most new bars claim to have "great" burgers but I must say that Roots has one of the best burgers I have ever head. The burger consisted of a potato roll, lettuce, tomato and the flavor was so wonderful it could have came between two pieces of paper and I would have still make quick work of it.
