I fully trust Laura with all of her beauty recommendations and I always learn so much from her about makeup techniques. She is not only an expert at all things natural beauty, but she is an EXTREMELY talented makeup artist. I have had my makeup done by her multiple times (for weddings) and she always makes me feel like the prettiest version of myself, naturally. If you are a local, you need to check out this store. Theeee best beauty shop in Orange County! The owner Laura is so friendly, attentive and she remembers everyone, even if it's been years since your last visit! You will only find the best products here. Most are organic with high quality ingredients. And you can try almost everything first right there before buying. Whether you need makeup, brushes, shampoo, soap, nail polish, SPF, or moisturizers, this is the place! Oh and there is a free parking lot for the store. You can access it off of Ocean Ave, which is a one way that starts at Forest Ave. The first available entrance on the left is their parking lot. An attendant will ask you where you're going to make sure you're in the right place. All you have to do is mention the name of the store, and you're in for as long as you need. I bought an Alima pure foundation powder at Roots, and the coverage was no where near what the Bare Minerals powder I had used for years. They refused to take it back, saying the manufacturer didn't give them a return. I went in there to support my local business, but when it came to me getting support upon returning the item they wanted to sell me another product or brush that may help the coverage. I told the sales girl that I used the same brush I used for my Bare Mineral powder so it was not the problem and I wasn't willing to take the loss of this product to buy one that "may" work better with no return on it either if it didn't work better. I decided to check on Amazon to see if they carried the brand and what their return policy was, and they said right on their page that returns were fine. And on top of that, the same item was $8 cheaper on Amazon!! So much for supporting local businesses that don't believe that support goes both ways! read more

This is a bit overdue but this shop was definitely worth the drive! It is the closest clean beauty shop that I could find and I desperately wanted to swap some of my make up items to cleaner options but always had trouble matching shades to my skin tone. Jaylee saved me, using an organic process (essential for me as I'm a breast cancer survivor) , smoothed my hair so perfectly that even in the heat of summer, in the throws of one hot flush after another (or so it seems) my hair has remained smooth. My sister and I bought over $1,500 of products from Roots in one day . We had some questions regarding how to use the products we purchased. Both of us attempted to contact the owner on multiple occasions, through text and phone. Not only did we never receive a response, but the one time the owner answered the phone she hung up on my sister. I texted the owner over 10 days ago to respond to me before I wrote a review, again she failed to respond. This type of behavior by a business owner should not be tolerated. I am writing this to warn others not to patronize Roots as they might find themselves in the same situation. Below, the business owner repsonded that she does not tolerate "disrespect, rudeness & overall lack of consideration of our staff & other guests ..." If the owner, who was in the shop the entire time we were there, felt that any one of us was "disrespectful, rude or inconsiderate" she could have asked us to leave. Instead, she chose to continue working with us, sell us over $1,500 worth of products, thank us for our purchases, and give us some free samples . In the days and weeks after we left the store the owner refused to answer our texts or calls regarding the use of the products she sold us. Laura is such an awesome and selfless person! I stumbled into this store by sheer luck at 6:30 p.m. when the store was supposed to be closed at 6:00 p.m. I was taking engagement shoot pictures that started at 2:30, so by that time, my hair was kind of flat. I decided I wanted a hair tie to just pull my hair to the side. Laura approached me and immediately knew that I was stressing out. She asked me "okay, what do you need?" (In a very sweet, let me help you, kind of way). I explained the situation to her, and she told me to come sit down in her styling chair. I said my curls were in my face, and I just wanted it straightened out. She actually talked me out of straightening my hair and just added volume to the top of my hair so that it went better with the curls. I kept thanking her for her help, and she was honestly just happy to help me out. I asked her what time the store closes, and she said not to worry about it because she was the owner! After she finished my hair, she told me to come over so that she could reapply my lip gloss. I asked her what color lip gloss she would recommend that I buy, and she told me that she wouldn't be able to sleep at night if she let me make such a decision with such little time. She told me to come back, which I definitely will. She told me her story, and she's the kind of mom and pop shop I love to support because they genuinely believe in their products and care about their customers. Such a great little shop! I went in looking for a specific foundation which they didn't have. But the woman working there recommended a foundation and concealer that was perfect for my skin type. I called to see if a slot was open for a full highlight and trim for the following day. To my surprise, there was a cancellation and they were able to fit me in on such short notice. The owner answered my call, broke down her suggestions (i.e. - clean hair and air dry if feasible) and took the time to give me parking directions so I didn't have to pay for street parking (I never would have thought to have asked otherwise)! When I arrived, my brain failed me. I was having a tough time locating the underground parking structure. I called for assistance and the lady who answered took the time to walk outside and assist me. So thoughtful! During my consultation, I showed an image of ombré colors I was looking to achieve. Thank goodness JLee had the heart to clarify on the ombré style. I wanted a full highlight with similar coloring, but I had failed to specify highlight versus ombré. Had she not confirmed, I'm sure it would have turned out beautiful, but it wouldn't have been what I had wanted. While JLee was mixing my colors, I had an urge to peruse the store. Even though they were starting to clean up shop for the night, they still took the time to assist me with what I was looking for, without hesitation. During my appointment, the owner stopped by for a moment to offer me some tea and later mentioned she had put a few samples in my bag. Not once did I feel like I was pressured to purchase anything. In fact, samples came highly recommended prior to purchasing from what I sensed. Overall, it was clear JLee has a true passion for her craft. This review is on my overall experience at Roots. My friend and I made appts for last Sunday at 3PM for the "clean your beauty routine". Finding the store was a bit of a fiasco but the biggest let down was that even though we had a 3pm appt, we were not helped until at least 3:45/4pm. The girl who was working didn't say we had to check in and that Laura would be with us shortly (it wasn't shortly). The store itself seemed to lack any sort of organization. There were actually 2 occasions when someone would walk in and the girl working the front would be washing makeup brushes with her back turned away from the door and Laura was not paying attention so people would walk in and wait at least 10-15 minutes before acknowledgement; i actually told Laura, you have someone who walked in and has been waiting (not my responsibility but i felt bad for the person not being helped). My friend had an appt at 4pm and because the store was supposed to be closed at 5pm, I think the younger girl who worked the front (don't know her name) started to do my friend's makeup. Her application skills were very different from Laura's. When my friend had mentioned, "you put eyebrows on very differently than Laura", her response was "how does Laura do it?". You can tell there is a lack of training in the employees and I feel like not everyone has a makeup/cosmetic background that works there. After paying close to $500 in products, I went home feeling like I spent A LOT but happy to start a new routine with cleaner products. Well, the following morning when I went to put on my makeup, I noticed that the Antonym Baked Blush that I had purchased was broken. Upon calling the store, the girl who answered told me to come and and they'd exchange it. I don't live very close to Laguna and with the Arts festival going on, parking is not really free anywhere right now or difficult to find. I explained that I was not able to come in and she had no other options for me. I told her I took a photo of the damaged product and she said "great, just email it". It's been 10 days and there has been no response to my email. No, "thank you for your email, we will get back to you shortly". Nothing. I'm appalled by this. I expect to have better service when I spend quite a bit of money. I will most likely be taking my business to organicbunny. OKAY I can't say enough amazing things about this hidden gem. First off, the place is so clean and beautiful and tucked away in a super cute little courtyard with a flower shop and an outdoor bar. Second, it has absolutely the best clean beauty products out there and organized so nice. Third and foremost if that isn't enough, the people ARE AMAZING! Laura, the owner, goes above and beyond for each and every customer and is also the nicest coolest human ever. She literally FaceTimed my mom for a consultation to give her samples. She always replies to texts, is so knowledgeable about skin care and beauty and knows everything about every single product. I had a weird rash and she knew exactly what to do and what to give me and made me feel so much better. Oh and also I forgot to mention their organic salon!!! Unreal. Can't get enough of Miz JLee, Laura, and the rest of the friendly staff here! I've gotten more cuts, highlights, color (purple, blue), and it's been an amazing experience every time! Even the one time I wasn't in love with my hair, they rushed me back and squeezed me in to fix the issue! Parking is pretty easy even on those busy Saturdays since they have reserved parking with an attendant keeping watch. This new hot spot is owned and operated by pretty Laura, a Laguna Beach local. They have only been open two business days. The store is roomy and well stocked (without being cluttered) with fantastic organic, toxic-free cosmetics, hair care and other delicious beauty products. There is also an organic skin care line for babies, children and men. I happily purchased Organic Care Systems hair products; Pit Putty that combines spearmint & tea tree oil; Kate's Magik anointing oils; Lotus Wei pure energy mist and took home some fantastic organic holistic Suti creams. Those are just a handful of the many non-toxic items for sale. A full time hair stylist is on staff and Laura offers professional makeup applications. As one who rarely wears makeup, due to the many toxic ingredients (major skin agers!), I am pleased to find a nice variety of natural makeup products under one roof at ROOTS. We hosted a girls night at Roots and couldn't be happier with how it turned out! We weren't fully sure what to expect (it was our first event at a beauty lounge type spot) but the Roots team went above and beyond what we imagined. Friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating! We had a relatively large party too (12 of us) and every one of the girls left there feeling refreshed and excited about a new favorite beauty spot! This group consists of mainly hard working moms who rarely take a moment for themselves. A night out like this is a rare treat and we're so happy we spent it at Roots. ROOTS deserves the best review as I have been shopping with them for years. Firstly, Laura is MAGIC! I continually leave her store feeling refreshed and that she truly cares about me getting the best products for my skin. For years I have trusted Laura and the other women to provide me with makeup and skincare products that will leave me feeling confident. Today I entered the store flustered from a busy day + traffic and Laura quickly calmed me with fresh drinking water and a lovely lavender spray. She then spent her TIME color matching me, showing me blending techniques, and having me stand outside in different lighting to ensure I was happy with her suggested selections. (Side note: Laura never half way does anything, she did any entire face of makeup for me and I LOVED it all).
