After other places said it couldn't be done and only wanted to sell me a new stone, I was overjoyed when Isaiah confirmed it could be done! I went into Roper's jewelry store today to have my diamond ring resized from 6 to 7. I know first hand from having a parent in the jewelry business and owning a jewelry store that it's about $65 to resize a ring even a platinum ring. I did want it done in the same day because my diamond is 5 carats and I don't wanna leave it overnight. Sometimes you walk in a jewelry store with a big diamond and they think you have a lot of money and want to up charge you. As the man was ringing it up a woman came in from the back and whispered in his ear hey that's a big Diamond charge her $500. They wanted to charge me $500 plus fixing it and they said the total cost would be $835. That was to change my ring size and fix two prongs. Now normally to fix two prongs would be $10 apiece. I left the store and went to Golden Swann up the street. That store was recommended by a friend. Not only did they fix my ring that day they charged me $30. They will have a lifelong customer. I went back to Roper's jewelers and told them this and they apologized but I'm still giving my review. A lot of elderly people go to roper's and I don't want them to get ripped off. I really enjoy going to this store. Although I don't own a lot of jewelry, nor does my wife, it's a great place to shop. They have a varied selection, prices are reasonable... I'd say "moderate" because it's a JEWELRY STORE... Best of all, their customer service is OUTSTANDING. Lisa, Peggy and everyone else I've interacted with their has been superb. The go out of their way to assist you and provide suggestions and alternatives. I recently had from college ring resized (smaller) it a traditional style (or 40+ years ago) and I kept vacillating between two different sizes. Lisa recommended the size I thought would be too small, but she convinced me and I'm very happy with her/my decision. We occasionally get my wife's wedding set cleaned there and a year or so ago I purchased a titanium "baseball" ring... it has red baseball 'stitches' going around it!!! I keep trying to give this shop by business, but they have finally lost it. I just had an employee refuse to resize my ring. I have lost 70lbs since it was made and and currently wearing a smaller band over the ring to keep it on because it keeps falling off. She kept calling me "sweetie" and "honey" and told me if they sized it I would be "coming in and getting it cut off in the summer heat" I informed her it was literally falling off. I requested a smaller size but she just kept telling me it was a bad idea and it wasn't needed. I got the ring made at Ropers, and since getting it made we have had nothing but issues with both the ring itself, and employees. This is NOT the first time we have had issues getting treated like we were stupid when trying to complete a simple transaction line a ring resizing. Disappointed to say the least. Do my best to support local business but they just didn't want it. Called ahead to ensure their jeweler was on site to swap a strap on a new watch, and was told come down, they could do it no problem, I could even wait. Well the silver haired lady who assisted me advised the strap would 'look terrible' and I shouldn't do it. While I digested her suggestion,I asked to have only one side attached so I could quickly preview to confirm her unsolicited opinion, she told me the jeweler was ' pretty busy and really didn't have time to do that...' . I took in a family ring for an appraisal. It was very old and when they were done, a stone was out and I had to ask for management to get involved to have it put back in. I was told that the cleaning removed all the "dirt" holding it together since it is very old, however it was appraised before the cleaning (I have the picture to prove it). I was never reimbursed for the appraisal fee and excuses were given rather than an apology or a resolution. Since then, I took it to another Jeweler and had it repaired. Worth the read, I promise: I recently had a VERY bad experience with trying to get a ring resized. I ordered a ring on a reputable website, the ring came so I took it to Ropers for a resize. I went to the BelAir location first. The woman behind the counter was very snooty and immediately said my sizing could not be done because there was too many small stones. I asked if there was a jeweler who could look at it and she responded that there wasn't anyone there who could look at it. I told her I wanted to get a second opinion so I drove to the Lincoln way location. I made it into the Lincoln way location. They knew I was coming because the first location called them and told them I was coming. Which normally would be great, but it would have been nice if they could have taken a look at my ring without pre conceived notion of whatever the first location said to them. The second location DID have a jeweler. She had my leave the ring. Said yes, the sizing could be done but it would be some work. I was relieved. Lincoln way location called me the next day to say "she just got around to looking at my ring and 26 of the stones are ALREADY loose (before resizing). She recommended re-tipping these stones before the resizing happens and that she recommends not only re-tipping the 26, but also to re-tip ALL of the stones on the ring or it will "look funny" and I would not be happy." Total cost to resize (& now, re-tip) my ring would be $750. So I took my ring down to a jeweler in Roseville for a third opinion. He said this was a LIE and that some companies have a "funny way to make money". He checked the stones right in front of me, he said three stones were borderline loose (not 26) and that they could be easily re-tipped. No need to re-tip all of the stones. He recommended taking the ring to a location off of Arden way. Which is too far for my Husband and I. (And then we started questioning if he knew what he was talking about because he, himself, doesn't do resizing....so maybe Ropers was right.. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt, we said.) We like to support local Auburn businesses. So we were heading up the hill to go ahead and take it to Ropers, bite the bullet, and pay the $750, so my ring would be wearable. (They couldn't be lying, they're a reputable company.... The only place many people in Auburn go.... So we thought.) Hunger hit as we were driving up the hill from Roseville. We decided to get a sandwich at Bistro 103 in old town. It's right next door to a Goldsmith. We decided, Heck, why not a fourth opinion. Let's see what these people have to say. Lo and behold, they said exactly the same thing as the man in Roseville without being told what he said. We were shocked. We had our ring resized and the few stones re-tipped that needed re-tipping (10 stones) AFTER it was sized. We paid $300. $300 is a LOT different than $750. Read reviews people! Some companies over-charge because they think they can. I will never spend a cent at Ropers. read more

A very poor experience. Brought my watch in to replace the battery and the woman working behind the counter came to a quick conclusion that my watch was broken and needed to be repaired. Began to fill out the envelope for repair before I agreed to have it repaired. She said "she can just tell that it's damaged by the position of the hands". I left the shop with my watch and took it to another jeweler who easily and quickly replaced the battery and the watch is fine. read more

i've been dealing with Ropers for years getting appraisals on 2 rings for insurance purposes. I've always had a little bit of suggested work they find wrong which is amazing because I only wear the rings once or twice while on a cruise and not an every day thing so how could it be getting loose that quick. The last time they said not only was the stones loose but I had a chipped stone and it would need to be replaced before it could be appraised. I took the ring to a different jeweler and he couldn't find any damaged stones so I'm a little bit put off at Ropers! we' they trying to generate money for work not needed. I don't say this lightly but in the past 10 years I've had three appraisals done on these rings and every time it always needs a little this or that which I've always paid.I don't wear the rings every day I only wear them to weddings cruising special occasions so they shouldn't be receiving the damage to cause these problems now after this last episode I'm thinking maybe I'm paying for something that doesn't need to be done. Went in here after previously going to other jewelry stores in old town auburn to get the prongs on my engagement ring tightened. Not only did I not have to wait 30 min just to talk to someone but we were in and out of here in about 15 min with a fixed ring for free! Other stores charge a minimum of $25 for tightening. We got introduced to everyone in the store. Could not of had a more personable, more enjoyable experience. Will be coming back for our wedding bands! read more

I was in the vicinity of this store and had a new watch (not a cheap one either) with me that needed the band shortened. I stopped in on my way to work. When I walked in an older lady was behind the counter . She did not look happy and greeted me with a grumpy "Hello". I told her I was on my way to work and wondered if I could get my watch band shortened while I waited. She said yes and snapped at me that it would be $10. She asked me how many links I needed out. I put the watch on and since it was hard for me to tell excatly how many needed to be removed, I asked her what she thought. She just glared at me and again (rudely this time) asked how many I wanted out. I guessed and said maybe two. She took my watch to the work area and proceeded to fumble around with it for about 5 minutes. Then she informed me she couldn't do it and said she was going to take it back to the watch person to do it. I said ok and she then wrote out a ticket, put my watch in a bag and shoved the ticket at me saying she would call when it was ready! REALLY? I told her I was on my way to work and asked if it could be done while I waited. I asked if he could do it then and she again glared at me and said no. I said I wanted my watch back because I had to leave and she kept shoving the ticket at me. I finally told her I would go elsewhere and asked her to PLEASE give my watch back. I stopped at Sierra Moon Goldsmiths on my way and they did it in 5 minutes, were VERY friendly. They checked the prongs on my rings and cleaned them while I waited less than 5 minutes for my watch, and they charged me...NOTHING! Guess what Ropers? Got my beloved matte finish wedding band sized here and it was returned to me with the finish completely polished off. No effort to return it to its original finish and color was made nor any offer of compensation for the error. I had specified when I dropped it off that the finish was not to be shined or altered in any way, my instructions were ignored and my ring ruined. read more

Walked into Ropers the night before Christmas Eve in need of a last minute gift. We weren't sure if they would be open, it was 6:45 PM. We were happy to see a sign that said extended hours until 7:00 PM...until we walked in and saw everything was already out of the cases and put away... After showing us 1 thing but acting as if we were intruding house guests, we were told to come back in the morning! ! Um...is it just me, but if you are open until 7, shouldn't your merchandise be available to buy until 7:00??? Guess not.. Lost a definite sale that night and any in the future. read more

I wanted a third diamond mounted and aligned to two other existing diamonds on a pendant and Mr. King not only did it crooked, he blamed his misalignment on the existing two diamonds. After my father's passing, I was very pleased to learn they purchased gold and jewelry and, thus, sold them certain items the family did not want to keep. Their purchase prices were reasonable. I have had similar experiences to other reviews. Sign says store closes at 5 PM, you arrive at 4:45 and they snippily tell you to come back the next day. Whatever you do, do not bring any good watch to Ropers, they have no clue, I have a watch that has worked perfectly for 15 years, brought it in to get the battery replaced, and the lady told me it was very difficult to open - never heard that from any of the other jewelers who changed the battery. Then, within one week of the change, it started to have moisture under the crystal, so it was not properly put back together. Again, never and issue in the 15 years I have had it. Now I need to get it cleaned and repaired by someone who actually knows how to fix watches. Watch out for Ropers Jewelers, and don't give them any watch you care about! read more

Today, they quickly repaired a medic alert bracelet for me. At first I was told it would take a couple of days. I had already been told that by some shops I called in the Sacramento area and I really needed to have it back today. When I commented about what type of bracelet it was the nice woman behind the counter said she'd see what she could do. They called back in a little over an hour and said it was done. Amazing. I've used Roper's in the past and have no complaints, today's service was what I'd call "over the top". Nice to know and they will continue to get my business. read more
