Make sure to get any quote in writing if you choose to work with them. We've had good experience in the past so we trusted this business but unfortunately couldn't move any further with our last purchase after too many inconsistencies made us feel we were being taken advantage of. We were quoted $1000 for a 2mm 10k gold band, we chose to go with something thinner and then was told the thinner band would be $1000 and the 2mm band was actually $1400, despite us having a voicemail proving that was not the original quote. This was after numerous delays and inconsistencies including: -waiting 2 weeks just to get a quote -voicemails saying items would be ready a certain day only to come in and find out they were never ordered -asking for 10k gold and being given prices for 14k gold without knowing. We contacted the owner and they sort of apologized but also denied that any of things mentioned above happened despite us having proof based off voicemails they left. It was also implied I was only upset due to the stress of wedding planning since this was suppose to be my wedding band which felt super dismissive. We were offered either $50 off or our deposit of $300 back and chose to have our deposit refunded, which we did appreciate. read more

I had a bizarre and highly unprofessional experience here. I brought in two rings for a simple polish and was told it would be roughly $100, but that I'd need to leave a non-refundable deposit just to get a firm quote later because the rings had to be "sent out to a professional polisher." When I hesitated, the employee spent five minutes typing on her computer and suddenly came back with an "official" quote of over $500. It's hard to believe the price quintupled in five minutes, or that she suddenly didn't need to send them out for that quote once I questioned the deposit. Most concerning was the lack of expertise. I asked for an appraisal on a necklace clearly engraved with a "750" hallmark. She told me the stone was likely fake because the chain was white and "wasn't even silver." For a professional jeweler to not recognize the standard hallmark for 18k white gold is a massive red flag. Between the "bait and switch" pricing tactics and the inability to identify basic gold hallmarks, I wouldn't trust this shop with high-end jewelry. I'm glad I didn't leave a deposit and took my business elsewhere. read more

Sierra moon makes stunning jewelry at a pretty fair price. The only issue I had with them was, we came in for a custom job and had a budget of 2-2.5k, which they assured was enough to do what we wanted! They made the piece for us, and when we went to pick it up, the price ended up being $4,000 ( with credit for metal we had brought in to be melted down and used) Which we were both shocked about but what were we going to do? Back in November, my fiancé and I researched and found Sierra Moon Goldsmiths here in Auburn. We were looking for a business to help us with a custom made, raw diamond engagement ring and simultaneously needed to downsize my dad's wedding band to fit my fiancé's finger. We wanted to use the excess gold from the wedding band in the creation of my engagement ring. That's a lot of things to accomplish! I called Sierra Moon Goldsmiths and was set up with DeAnne, a very skilled jewelry designer. On their website, you can read a bio of all of the designers and the two owners. I really liked that! Anyway, our engagement ring and wedding band project came out perfectly! There were many other "perks" of working with Sierra Moon Goldsmiths: we were connected with a local jewelry and gemstone appraiser, we met and secured our wedding photographer, and most importantly we found a local goldsmith who knows how to work with people and provide excellent customer service. Plus, sometimes there's an adorable "shop dog" named Luna to pet, too! I highly recommend Sierra Moon Goldsmiths if you're looking for custom work, repairs, have unique requests, or just have questions about your jewelry in general. Don't waste your time with this place. I called to ask if they buy scrap gold and silver and the lady that answered said "yes, absolutely come on down". Me "coming on down" consisted of an hour and a half drive just to have them say "oh we don't buy scrap gold or silver anymore. We've bought a lot lately." I told the broad, supervisor/manager/whatever, how I just drove an hour and a half there based off of her employee telling me to do so and she could care less. Discussed having a "new" ring made but was thrilled to have a designer there remind me of the uncommonly used, lost wax method used to create my beautiful, one-of-a-kind gold ring & chose to have the ring resized instead. In addition, one of the other designers noticed the prongs for my center diamond were severely worn and were in need of replacement to protect the center stone. Here's a little bit of our recent experience with trying to get a ring resized: We started by going to both locations of another jeweler here in Auburn. The first location told me my ring sizing could not be done. The second location told me, it could be done but there were 26 stones already loose on my ring. I would need to re-tip all of the stones on my ring because if we only did the 26 it would look bad and I would be unhappy. So to do my ring sizing it would cost us $750. We went and got a third opinion in Roseville. This man told us that what the first company said was not true, he recommended we go to a jeweler off of Arden way because they are honest. My husband and I like to support local Auburn businesses, so that was out of the question. So we came to Sierra Moon to see what their opinion was, they agreed with the man from Roseville, long story short, and lots of frustration aside, we are so happy! My ring is beautiful! Sierra moon was able to only re-tip what needed to be re-tipped and they did it all for $300!! Big difference $750 to $300.... This is the ONLY jeweler we will go to in Auburn. Working together on ideas and concept, the jeweler created a piece of art for my finger. Really truly a master artist who 100% got that I did NOT want something that was going to look like it could be bought at the mall. My ring is like no other I have ever seen. A wonderful find in auburn ! A few months ago we were walking by and I stopped to admire a lovely gold necklace and pendant cutout in the shape of California . I've seen many of these state representative pendants on sale from numerous places before, but nothing of this high quality! Sierra Moon designs and make all their jewelry in house . They are true goldsmiths and their pieces are all unique and can be personalized . Last night my love surprised me with my very own golden state with a diamond placed in Sacramento ! :) I love it !! Although they had nice pieces, this place was a rip off. I had been searching for over a year for a specific type of setting and finally found one from a jeweler that only sells their settings through other jewelers. When I found out that Sierra Moon was one, I stopped in to see how much it would cost. Because of the rising cost of gold, they quoted me an astronomical number on the setting - 5k! When I said this wasn't something that I could do, the owner then said she would be able to take 500 off. I found another jeweler in old town Sacramento and they were able to sell me the same exact setting for 3700 dollars. read more
