Rosaria Restaurant Saugus I found this restaurant as it sits on the second floor of the building that houses J. Pace & Sons (one of my favorite butchers). Joe Pace decided to open a steak place on the second floor of the building he built for his market. When we arrived for our 6:30 reservation there was plenty of parking. Once we went inside there was a grand staircase of beautiful Italian marble that led us to the second floor. There is an elevator for those who choose not to take the stairs. We were greeted by the hostess and taken to our table. We were offered a cozy booth that would have seated four very comfortably. Our waitress come and greeted us warmly and asked us of we wanted tap water or us if we wanted bottled. We told her tap water with lemon. When she brought the lemon she asked us if we had any questions. I told her we had a Groupon. She became very animated and informed us that many people had them and it was a great deal! She explained we each had a choice of any salad, any entrée up to a 39. value and any desert. If we wanted an entrée that cost more than 39. We would pay the difference and there were only three steaks that the increase applied to. We were brought a basket of warn bread nice and soft on the inside and crunchy outside served with an olive oil infused with garlic, and a bunch of other stuff! It was delish! We both ordered Caesar Salad, Lori ordered the Salmon filet that came with Leek mashed potato's and grilled peppers with a citron sauce. I ordered the grilled sirloin and a side baked potato. The salads came out in a reasonable time, the dressing was a nice creamy Caesar dressing, but I would recommending them to go light on the dressing. The salad was served with four small fried ricotta balls instead of croutons. They were tasty, but I prefer a nice crouton! There was no rushing between courses and the time was just right to allow you to enjoy the room and the surroundings. Our entrées came out together. Lori was presented with her plate and it looked delicious, a large portion of salmon lying on a nice portion of leak mashed potatoes with multi colored Julianne peppers on top. The citron sauce was served on the side at Lori's request. She was not a fan. My steak was presented and was cooked to perfection medium rare. I was offered butter, sour cream, chives, and or bacon bits for my baked potato. For those of you who know me I am kind of a steak snob! This two-inch thick Prime sirloin steak was not only cooked to the correct temperature, it was seasoned perfectly and was as tender as any steak I have eaten! Desert changes daily and today they offered cannoli, tiramisu, bread pudding, chocolate mousse, or gelato. I went for the cannoli; Lori went for the cannoli to go! I am glad she took them to go because I was served two large cannolis. They were delish! And now I have desert tomorrow too!! We ordered coffee and our waitress asked if we minded waiting a few extra minutes so she could brew a fresh pot for us! WOW, I was impressed! I definitely recommend Rosario, but make reservations especially for the weekend. I called last Friday for last Saturday and they were full, so I made tonight's reservation! Also, check Groupon to see if they still have the deal available as they are a pricy place, but you are getting what you pay for. One last item to mention, they have a large patio outside their dining room and have outside dining when the weather gets warm! They also have a very large bar for those that like to have a cocktail! I've been here a few times and I always forget to write a review. The food here is very, very good. The wine is great and the service is exceptional. The restaurant is very pretty. Not at all what you'd expect over a VFW and next to a K Mart. There is a beautiful deck out back with a waterfall that makes you forget that you're in Saugus. This is a great place for date night or a special occasion. They often have live music at the bar as well. The menu has changed over time and all of the new restaurant kinks have definitely been ironed out. I don't feel like it's overly expensive fit the quality of the food. The grilled oyster appetizer is ridiculously delicious and the steaks are obviously fantastic. The desserts are pretty good too. Close friends really recommended this place.. ordered the gnocchi the shrimp scampi and chicken piccata. gnocchi was tasteless very bland, barely touched it. Chicken piccata was also very bland .. there was no salt on the food at all.. shrimp scampi was good. Excellent experience! I wasn't too sure when we pulled into the parking lot (I'm not yet a suburbs girl, and a bit wary of restaurants near strip malls... or VFWs), but that's where my doubts left me. Beautiful lobby, gorgeous restaurant. Excellent service (though we did have the place to ourselves - I guess no one goes out to a romantic dinner on Super Bowl Sunday but us!). The bar was crowded and sounded lively. Ambiance was nice: curved booths and gorgeous woodwork looked very tasteful. The wine lockers were impressive, and made me want one (someday!). Steaks were enormous, and delicious. We both had the filet, with the recommended sauce (on the side, of course!). I preferred it on the veggies, the steak didn't need it. Delicious house dressing on the Rosaria salad, Caesar was obviously fresh. Not a huge, lengthy menu, and pretty traditional steakhouse fare, so not a foodie's paradise, but solid offerings: pastas, chicken and seafood dishes, and of course, for the carnivores, the steaks. Impressive wine list, with an excellent selection of "bargain bottles" (my words, not theirs, I bet their wording was prettier). A surprising number of dessert choices (we had the sorbet. It was fab). In spite of myself, super convenient location - *right* off Rt. 1. Huge function room out back (from what I could see). Disappointed and safe to say will not return. Would rather drive into Boston where top notch steak houses are worth the extra $$$. After three times sending back a filet to be cooked medium-well I gave up. Service and wait time between courses was not acceptable. Lack of interest from the waitress and certainly no interest in getting the order right by the manager was a disgrace to this restaurant. Dinner on a quiet Wednesday night took over 3 hours! Bar waitstaff was no better. Waited 15 min. for bartender and waitress to finish talking before we were acknowledged. Interior decor is appealing but lacked professional staff. read more

Best Italian restaurant ever!!! Very recommended for special occasions. If you are planning a large party for a business, consider hosting a function here. The waiters or waitresses are very flexible with food changes and almost never harass you to do anything. The coat service is also a very good system. If you don't finish your meal, you can take it home. Not to get into another place, but if you don't like your food, you can go downstairs to JPACE & SON (Joe pace and son) and get a dessert or a different meal. The worst part is that you can sometimes run into a mean employee, like I did, but they can always be friendly later. The menu is very variable and good for many people. Another bad thing is that the prices are a little steep. The meals are very tolerable and kids are welcome, as they have a kid's menu. Great service, good food, love the atmosphere here. Good for special occasions, functions, groups or date night! Even the bar is fabulous. We went for a special occasion and had several special requests that we both called and emailed earlier in the day. They happily took care of us. Every request was met. I did take away one star for the lobster ravioli. It wasn't good. Too sweet, and it was processed. Like a can of bay scallops and shrimp were the topping. Looking at the reviews, it didn't look to promising. However, my friends got a groupon and decided to give it a shot. The waitress was excellent, very attentive. We ordered New york strip, Filet Mignon, and I ordered the special of the day, which was a Porterhouse steak. The food was incredible. Prosciutto so perfectly sliced it was like butter. Real burrata that was creamy and good. Huge shrimp and perfectly cooked steaks. And the sweet potato fries were the best I've ever had. The server himself was quite charming. And I'm not sure it was his fault or the good runners or the kitchen but service was slow and some things were missing. Being 'foodies' who look for great food and service, we were not disappointed with our first visit to Rosaria's! My husband is 'very' particular about his steak and he loved his bone in filet...which was substantial and cooked to perfection! I ordered the salmon, which was fresh and fabulous! Our dining companions also had steaks and were extremely happy with them...tender and cooked exactly as they wanted. Katie was a great server, very friendly and attentive without hovering. We usually travel to Boston when we're looking for a great steakhouse, but now we've found a great steakhouse on the North Shore which rivals those in Boston and for less $$ than other steak houses in Boston or on the North Shore! Drinks were generous and reasonably priced. The four dinner sides were more than sufficient to split between us, with left overs to boot! To finish off, we ordered the tiramisu and the chocolate mouse cake to split between the four of us. Both desserts were absolutely delicious and decadent and considerably larger than we had expected!! I loved this place ! The decor was was done nice and there was great music playing ( maybe alittle loud) but still was comfortable. Our waitress was fabulous ( wish I remembered her name) , and the food was great , fiancee got bolognese and yummy the pasta was delicious , I got Chicken Frangelico omg WINNER !! The Italian restaurant to go to in the North Shore! Located in the same lot as the great J Pace and sons, this restaurant offers a great selection of excellently prepared Italian dishes paired well with a fantastic wine and spirits selection. During warm days you can sit outside and enjoy a waterfall and well maintained grounds. Makes you forget that you are near a major highway. Location is on the high side for price but is well worth it. Definitely recommend reservations because this place gets busy fast. read more

My daughter brought me to Rosaria last Sunday to celebrate my birthday. I was highly impressed with the atmosphere, sort of like dining in a palace. Went for my wife's 52nd Birthday dinner with family of 5. The entire décor was a feeling of sitting in North End especially the grand stairway with great patio & garden view. We were immediately greeted at the top of the stairs and sat by a very pleasant Hostess. Our waitress was VERY informative in helping us select wine (nice Cab), appetizers (Calamari & Antipasto) and our entrees (Salmon special, Swordfish special over egg home made noodles, Steak & Lobster casserole Gnocchi & Pasta and Pasta Bolognese)......all with exceptional presentation and delivery. Strolling guitar was great touch to evening as well as entire staff singing Happy Birthday to my wife. Desert of Tiramisu, Cheesecake, Lemmon cello and cappuccino's were best we've had. Ok... can you take the truth? Do so and you can become a good Steak location. 1. Wait staff. You'll have to go and get folks who know the business to compete with the elite. Hiring the locals gives off a bad vibe. Tough gals and don't know how to wait on those who visit the Cap Grille's Grill 23's. 2. Steak is wet aged and really quite good. BUT - come on... no mushroom sides in a steak house? REALLY? 3. Other food items we fair to good. 4. You've got the ambiance down. Now get the rest together. You should probably hire a manager who knows the business before you're out of business. 5. Location is tough... so everything else has to work. 6. It's obvious by the attendance that what I see is true. It's great to know I can get a seat, I fear without enough business you're not turning inventory and that scares me. You still have a chance. We went to Rosaria's for dinner last night. Let me start by saying that my husband and I love a good steakhouse, so the prospect of a great one in the neighborhood was very exciting. Overall, the experience was mixed. I want to give a shout out to the owner/manager, who was on the floor all night, checking in with customers, bussing tables, generally trying to keep things going. I really admire that dedication, and hope that this place can upgrade and flourish. The venue is stunning. From the sweeping staircase to the dining rooms to the bar, they've absolutely nailed ambiance. Even the jazz choices were perfect. The general location is a challenge - it's next to a Kmart, VFW, and above a grocery store. You don't notice that AT ALL when you're going there, but in general, I have a hard time envisioning this as a date location for example. The waitstaff was friendly, but what I'd call "rough around the edges." I suspect that it's nothing that a good staff training session or two couldn't fix. At a restaurant this level, you need to anticipate needs and everything has to be seamless. Instead, there were awkward mix ups, failed to serve bread, etc. The food was tasty. The steaks were good, but almost cold. For the prices, I expect a plate too hot to touch and a steak that's still sizzling. The sides were fine, but not at the level of what I'd expect. There was no molten chocolate cake or chocolate dessert - which is a must have at a steakhouse. Finally, they had an excellent wine selection and the dessert wine we had was great. All in all, I wish them all the best. In value for money, it's still worth trekking into the city to Ruth's Chris when you want the five star experience. read more

Wow! Didn't expect this class of place on route one. I took four people for a business dinner. The place is a class act. We started with drinks a the bar. Our bartender Michael was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He made our drinks quickly. He made menu recommendations for our meal. We were seated at a nice round table in the main dining room. Our sever was a skilled host for our dinner. He guided us through the menu and the huge wine list. We started off with shellfish tower. Tower of power! That was followed by bone in goodness. Started with "Chilled Oysters" very small oysters, the "Onion soup" was table warm not the Hot Bubbling soup you'd expect (or receive elsewhere) the "Caesar salad" was bland, little dressing and the "anchovies"? I counted 2, I ordered the "Delmonico" steak that honestly was cooked to perfection (except it was heavily charred on the outside) the gorgonzola sauce was an interesting substitution to the standard butter, all in all not bad, My wife ordered the "Zuppa di Pesce" 1st off you have to ask that it be on a pasta, 2nd again served "table warm" and bland, we had to wave down our server to request red pepper & grated cheese (ya would think that's a staple for a pasta dish) the deserts of Ricotta pie and tiramisu wernt bad and interesting twist on both. I was really Disappointed, the wait staff needs fine tuning at best, reaching over us to clear unused dishes or flatware is a no-no, the lack of attention during the meal is another no-no (especially when you have to look for your server) seriously not once during the meal did our server refresh our water. The prices, high and heavy for the area, if the quality of the food and service warranted it I'd say ok but it doesn't....I think Joe Pace should take a long hard look at his homage to mother and re-evaluate, does he want to be the restaurant that folks try once and never return or a restaurant that you put on your favorite list? read more

Yesterday we celebrated our baby girl's christening at Rosaria's in the large function room. With 65 adults and 19 kids under age 11 we fit very comfortably. The room looked gorgeous. Came in for our Thanksgiving reservation. Check in was awkward with a line of ppl waiting on the staircase while the hostess insisted on hanging our coats. Took ONE HOUR for our drinks and bread to arrive. The server apologised stating there were a total of four employees working with one server. There were @ 75 seated. No further apologies or an offer of something complimentary to ease the hungry people. Had to ask for our drinks 3 times before they arrived. After one hour the apps arrived. Still waiting for our meals to arrive that were ordered over an hour ago. It's a holiday and when you go to a premium restaurant you pay for a better experience than this. Now we have to rush through our meals to get to our next holiday stop. read more

We used Rosaria's for our family bereavement lunch. I cannot say enough about the banquet room, food, service, and staff. All of our family and friends were very impressed with everything. They were very considerate with last minute changes when we realized that we had maybe 20 more people that anticipated. When we got there extra tables were set up and everyone was comfortable. I had my daughters bridal shower here and the brunch was amazing! I can't say enough about the staff they were so helpful and pleasant. I wanted to make sure everything was perfect and I really didn't have to do much. Dorie made things very easy for me. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!! I would not hesitate to go back again. From drinks before, right through dinner everything was wonderful. Staff was very attentive and professional. We had the Crab cakes and Eggplant Timballe. Both were delicious! We ordered Lobster Raviolis, Chicken Pizzaiola and the Filet Mignon. I had the Filet - which was extremely tender and very flavorful. Can you say hidden jewel?! I recently dined here with my girlfriends and we were pleasantly surprised by not only the atmosphere, but the food and service was impeccable. The martinis are huge and the wine list is extensive. The fried calamari was seasoned just right and perfectly crispy. Steaks were cooked to perfection and side dishes were big enough to share. I cannot wait to go back when the patio overlooking the beautiful waterfall is open. This is a perfect spot for al fresco dining and sure to be a northshore hot-spot this summer. Really like this place. Have eaten here probably like 20 times. Local good Italian food. It's an Italian steakhouse so be prepared to pay $$ for a steak. Pastas, chicken and fish dishes are pretty reasonably priced. Everything I've ordered from apps to steaks have been great. My fab apps are the burrata and antipasto. You can ask for bread and make a meal. Caesar salad is delicious. Decor is nice and they have booze lockers (oh so fancy). I want one . Service is fantastic especially bar service. Thursday is a "ladies night" but expect the ladies to be your mom's mom. If you like decent Italian food and good drinks this is the place. You can look all fancy taking your girl or boy here (should I have said other too? Way too confusing nowadays!) Btw the martinis are the best. They serve them in a ice chilled "flute" surrounded by ice so they don't dilute. Plus they have blue cheese stuffed olives!!! That's right double panda! I went on Tuesday with my father for lunch, again tonight for dinner with my husband and another couple and we all agree it is simply amazing! You will not believe your rues when you walk in.
