I ordered the corned beef reuben egg rolls, which had a great mixture of corned beef, cabbage, and swiss cheese inside the crispy shell, with thousand island dressing to dip. It hit the spot! Club Cafe also has a number of other things it offers, including the Napoleon Cabaret Lounge and the Moonshine nightclub and performance space. There's drag brunches and bingos. We moved onto two entrees recommended by our server. The pork chop entree was accompanied by sweet potatoes and a light gravy and perfectly steamed, seasoned green beans. The pork chop was very lean and filling! The server specifically called out the chicken piccata as the most flavorful in the city. That's a tall order to fill in a city with the North End. The entree here is definitely in the top tier with strong flavors joining the chicken and linguine in a custom white wine butter sauce with diced tomatoes, capers, and lots of garlic. Yummmmmmmmm! We also got a glass of the sangria (it's summer), which was flavorful and served with a wedge of orange and a cherry. This is a good date night spot. Reservations recommended (available online). Of course, now things are different because of the Coronavirus. I'm not able to visit with my mom and I miss her very much. However, the therapeutic activities staff decided to facilitate virtual visits for the families and their loved ones living at Madonna Manor. I did get to visit with my mom through FaceTime and it truly meant a lot to me!

I had a close family member live here for almost 10 years, and the respect, care, and attention given to her was never there. My loved one was in situations where she fell and was hurt, and after pushing or pulling her emergency button/string, she would have to wait for a minimum of 2 1/2 hours before someone would check on her. I know this to be true, because I have pushed it myself, and it took them that long to respond. I was told by her that they would forget her meals, which is a huge concern because she had health issues that made eating a priority for her to be okay. Also, they shouldn't be forgetting anyone's meals...but every time I would complain or say something to an employee, they would reassure me they would take care of it, and then I would find out they never did. Her safety was always a concern for me because she was never in good hands that actually cared. After she passed I found a list she made of the days they forgot to bring her meals, and she stopped keeping track after a year of starting it. She would ask for help with small things every so often too. The employees would often say they would help, leave, and not return. They made her feel like a burden while living there. Her experience living at Madonna Manor breaks my heart because I know she deserved better, considering how much she was paying per month. Madonna Manor has different levels of care. I was told per their contract; they do evaluations to see if they need to go up a level. Going up a level means they would get more help with their daily tasks and the employees and nurses would be more hands on with her. I know she needed to go up a level, if not levels. She could not take care of herself. She was barely able to walk or get up. She couldnt read because her vision was going, and that affected her medicine intake. She was not able to bathe herself either and needed that help. I could see her quality of life starting to fade because of all of this. Once again, when i brought this to their attention, i was told they would take a look when they do their next evaluation. They NEVER upgraded her care. Madonna Manor kept her at Level 1, and failed her. When she passed and I went to her room to collect her things, I could tell where she died because they did not clean up. It was horrific and upsetting. We had to call multiple times about it too. They have no respect for the people living here, or their families. Madonna Manor does not deserve a 1 star rating, or your money.

It's the most dog-friendly, least creepy part of the city to reside. Hyde park is basically suburbia, and I'd much rather live there but it's too far from all the Hub-bub that is Boston. Better schools, nicer parks and some hidden gems for restaurants because so many different ethnicities live in this area. It's like Greenwich village ...except a lot less hipsters as NY!

All was good until a number of years ago when I read in a local newspaper that BBA had released rabbits on their property. I was floored then and wondered why that would be so. Then more recently, last spring to be more precise, I looked out my window at my newly planted and/or emerging plants and (gasp!) there was a rabbit eating away at my new zinnia plants. They were young (and succulent, I surmised while watching them be devoured) and stripped down to their stalks by the time I could get the hose so I could spray away the rabbit. It took 2-3 tries last year, and I hope I don't have to repeat that experience. Why?

The care and services provided residents in top notch. I have one personal issue that frustrates me; there is not centralized WiFi/internet for residents New Horizons offers a few community PC's which until three to five years ago would have been adequate. Today however most families and seniors are very connected. Tools such as Zoom allow social interaction even when a visit isn't possible. During the COVID pandemic during serious influenza, visits may not be an option. Use of communal area PCs would greatly increase risk of virus transmission to the general population. New Horizons negotiated a price per resident for seniors to get internet ($30 per month) per resident. This is no bargain, and generally seniors are very concerned about any extra expenditures which makes the cost a battle. I hope New Horizons will upgrade their technology to equal their other service delivery
