Living in Anacortes, we certainly have choices when it comes to where we stock our pantries. Sure,…read moreyou can head just a few blocks over to Safeway and save a bit of cash, as many of the prices at "The Market" tend to run noticeably higher. But for a long time, I thought supporting a local spot was worth the extra coin for the neighborhood vibe. Unfortunately, my last weekend trip completely soured that experience. They say that in the produce section, just one bad apple can spoil the entire bunch--and the exact same philosophy applies to customer service. If you happen to shop on a weekend, you might just run into their most disagreeable staff members, prime examples of whom seem to be holding down the registers. Take Lee F., for instance. I expected a pleasant checkout, but instead received an experience defined by sharp, deeply rude responses that left me wondering why she is stationed anywhere near the public. If management has any sense of self-preservation for their customer base, they might want to consider shifting her to the overnight crew where human interaction isn't a requirement. Until they figure out that a sour cashier can ruin an entire shopping experience just as fast as bruised fruit, I'll be taking my grocery budget elsewhere.

Then an older gentleman said we can make Tuna on white bread if you like. We didn't even notice the sandwich counter. What a great concept. The lady who made our sandwich took real pride in making what we wanted. We will definitely stop by Safeway on our road trip for a quick picnic lunch.

The first issue was that the woman next to me had pushed her cart very close to me and the check out sensed the items in the cart as mine. It kept saying that it looked like I hadn't scanned all my items, Ultimately, a worker had to come help me and explained that was what was happening. I would have needed the employee regardless though because I grabbed some Pepperidge Farm Milanos because I saw they were on a deal for members. After scanning them, I did not receive the discount even though I was signed in to the register with my account. The staff memeber had to do an override and explained that although it knows I am a member, I still have to manually log in in the app and clip the virtual coupon. Why do I need to sign into an app and jump through hoops to document something as a member when anyone off the street can just walk in and scan the coupon from the ads in the front and their information and purchases are unknown? I am so tired of business tracking everyone and what they buy and when and using them as a data point. I already have a membership and I'm buying the item. If the store wants people to be loyal, they should make things easier for them, not harder. Anyway, the cookies were stale. I would not return to this location and I am reconsidering the chain as a whole at this point.
