I have been going to Rosarito since 1993, when they opened on Craig Ave and Foothill Blvd at a doomed location. I grew up in the neighborhood and saw so many concepts come and go at that location, never lasting very long at all (1, maybe 2 years. Yet Rosarito survived there for well over a decade, before they moved to their current location. Over the last 33 years I have tried pretty much everything on the menu, and every single dish is fantastic. On this trip I went for Al Pastor Tacos. Stopped by for a quick lunch meanwhile my car was being serviced a few blocks down. Its a small location, the staff was friendly, and the food was ready fast. I ordered an asada, al pastor, and carnitas taco. Each taco was decent and the sauces were decent as well. The Carnitas taco being the most flavorful. Let's talk about Menudo. According to the dictionary, Menudo means a soup made from beef tripe and chilis. But when I went to the Mexican grocery store, they labeled Beef Honeycomb Tripe as Menudo De Panalito, as well as Beef Book Tripe as Menudo De Librillo. Then why doesn't Menudo mean beef tripe? ChatGPT tells me it is because that is the tripe cut used for Menudo. Then it raises another issue: are there no other dishes made from beef tripe? I first encountered Menudo in 2016 at a restaurant in Azusa, CA called Taco King on Gladstone St. This restaurant was permanently closed, but it still has other branches open in that area. The original one was the first place I ever had Menudo, and I never found any better, even at their other branches. I don't have Menudo frequently. Firstly, I am not Latino. Secondly, not many Mexican restaurants sell Menudo every day. I was jogging around that area and passed by this Rosarito. I walked in and ordered Menudo. I carried the takeaway plastic bag and ran back home, struggling with the heavy package swinging around. Before I walked out the door, the chef told me they serve Menudo every day, unlike others that only serve it on weekends. The Menudo takeaway included the Menudo soup, several flour tortillas, and torillas chips. All traditional, classic, but not special. The Menudo was small-cut, moderately seasoned, cooked, stewed. Nothing special but nothing bad. It's plain--not in a bad or flavorless way, just average and normal. You wouldn't call it bad tasting, nor a pleasant surprise. Anyway, the people there were kind, the food tasted good, but without highlights. You can't call it a bad restaurant--it was clean and neat, not very authentic, but not bad either. This made me confused about how to judge a restaurant. I normally give a fine dining restaurant 4 stars if the food is acceptable, but I tend to raise the bar for small restaurants. They don't have fancy renovations, usually don't have good tableside service, so the only factor left is the food. Then the only judgment is the food itself, which feels somewhat unfair. Finally, I gave it four stars. It was good Menudo, no shining points, but good. read more

Since that visit I have enjoyed the menudo, enchiladas, nachos, and all these dishes have one thing in common: great flavor and cooked to perfection. I look forward to Christmastime, when they put out the banner indicating tamales are available! It gives me something to look for as I walk or drive by during the holiday season. It is so nice to deal with a dining establishment that treats the customer so well both on the phone and in person. Plenty of parking nearby in both the lot and on the street. I gave this place five stars because the food is pretty consistent and has been for 10 years. The photo is of the shredded beef tacos, which is probably my favorite thing to get there next to the chicken tacos or burritos. The carne Asada is good, but it's not my favorite and I would stick with the shredded beef or the chicken for a first timer and then move over to the other stuff afterwards. The ambience is nothing to brag about but overall I'd say it's pretty decent. It's no frills, but I've never felt uncomfortable there and then there's no music blasting or anything like that so it's OK. The service is always good because the guys that work there are always pretty friendly. One brother will bring the food out to you. I see brother because there's two guys that take the order and they kind of look like Brothers and one of them will bring the food to you. The other one will just call out your order and you have to go pick it up, but it's not a table service restaurant. It's just you go up and order and then you sit at a table and you know eat. Please excuse any grammatical errors because I am doing talk to text for this review. Also, they have a parking lot so it's always easy to park there. I would say as far as a Mexican food goes In Pasadena. This is one of the more preferred spots in my opinion that's worth checking out. read more

Very busy day. Today's dinner was at Rosarito Mexican Food. I opted for the Chile Relleno combo plate w rice & beans, guacamole & sour cream. The chile relleno was very good. I appreciate that the chile's seeds & membranes were removed. I think the cheese used was Oaxaca since it was very melty, which is a great choice since this is the cheese I also use for chile relleno or enchiladas. The rice was very buttery and the beans were good. Beans however, had lard (not vegetarian friendly)... I didn't have to ask, I tasted it. I still ate some of it since it was good. The location is in a shopping center that had plenty of parking, so I didn't have to worry about that today. read more

Yelp for the win once again! I was exiting Sierra Madre on my way to work and plugged in Mexican food on my maps, and Rosarito Mexican Food came up with raving reviews. Needless to say, it was my final destination. Excellent service, friendly staff, but most important; the food was exceptional. I love a good hole in the wall restaurant and Rosarito Mexican Food in Pasadena hit the spot. The beans friends, the beans. Perfection. If you're picky like me, that's a big deal. Since 1993 they are still pumping along and serving great Mexican food at Affordable prices - small dining area and counter service. Place is always busy with take out business and has so many regular clientele. Even has soups if you ask for them. I've been coming to this place every since I was 15 me and my high school sweetheart we got married. We ate there for our little first date and we fell in love with this place. The owner has changed, but we got new owners that are terrific. They are great guys. They had the best food. Their burrito is the best. The wet burrito the Menudo excellent their shrimp nachos are the best they drink Jamaica is great. Customer service is perfect. I've been knowing these guys since they moved away from In-N-Out now they're over there on Colorado. They've been there for years. My whole family comes there. They know me and my mom we are both older now we're using canes so they still help us out to our car. They are the best. Keep up the great work guys. I love you. read more

I first went to this restaurant in the early 90's but I had been going there frequently in recent years. They offer a complete traditional menu. The burritos are huge and generous. Wet burritos are one of their specialties. All orders come with tortilla chips. I always looked forward to their red & green sauces. Service is good and quick. The basic bean & cheese burritos were $7, which was a little high at the time, but I eventually became okay with it since they are really good, large, and I didn't go there too often. But one day, the price was suddenly raised to $9, from $7 just one week earlier. That's a 22% increase. A 25¢ or 50¢ increase is okay and reasonable, but $2 overnight is too much too soon, and it's hard to justify $9 for a bean & cheese burrito. read more

So I've tried different taco places in this condense area of Pasadena since it's close to work. If you like quick to the point Mexican food that's GOOD, this is for you. Worst experience ever I came out with the family to have a loving dinner after a long 15 hour shift. Customer service was very horrible. My son asked to get some water before we even walked in. Asked the guy to have a water cup. He told me as soon as I ordered, he will give me a water cup. I ordered my food paid close to $70 for the food. I bought a soda cup because the guy ended up telling me after I got done ordering that he was out of water cups, which I brushed it off.We the enchilada plate. That we ordered, and we got a burrito that we ordered also along with nachos and a torta and two tacos as he gave us our food, the torta and the enchilada plate, the meat and those two dishes was heavily salted I was wondering why my family was not hardly eating their food. I asked what was wrong. They told me took it up to the guy told him that the meat was heavily salted and he says well. What do you want me to do about it do you want your warning back or what I requested my money back continue to share my nachos with my brother and and my dad all of a sudden we told the kids to go get a refill on the drink. The orange soda was not working. I told them OK we'll get something different. Everything was turned off so my kids asked for the guy to turn back on the soda machine and the guy told my son that you had already two refills that's enough very rude to my kids. Show me a sign where it says two refills is enough I paid for what I paid for that is my hard-working money. First time I got a chicken torta with a side a fries for take out made sure to order ahead because lunch time is packed especially at a Mexican restaurant. I have loved this place for YEARS but what I saw today was absolutely disgusting. I went to pick up my phone order and the cook was preparing my nachos while he was coughing over my food, not intentionally but openly coughing over it. I told them to just cancel my order because of what I saw, they apologized but I will most definitely never return here. Please wear a mask if you are sick especially if you're handling food. Dinner on Saturday, few people eating inside but plenty of seating. Order 2 combo plates, at taquito plate and a taco/enchilada combo but they gave me a taco Chile relleno instead. Each combo comes with rice and beans. The taquito plate comes with guacamole and another green sauce I couldn't place the taste the green was a little weird color. Taco was fine, carne asada, and the Chile relleno was good, would recommend. Rice was pretty tasty but the beans were a little hard maybe undercooked. Overall not bad but not amazing. Simply Bad food. Tastes of nothing and most likely reheated from days ago. Bland, low quality, low effort, bordering on inedible and had to throw all of it out. Person at the register was unfriendly, rude and unaccommodating for a simple request. Had a bad attitude.
