I ordered it and when it arrived it was about 4 sizes too big I was swimming in it and it did very little to flatter my figure. I looked like a chubby boy in a wedding dress -it was bad- So I searched and searched and found rose here on yelp I saw the transformations she had made to other wedding dresses and I had hope Once I scheduled an appointment and came in she made me feel confident in her ability to fix We had about 4 fittings and each time my dress looked better and better The tailoring was reasonably priced for the immense amount of intricate details and work she did. Over 6 months before my wedding I started yelping around for a good seamstress to help me with the baggy wedding dress I bought from David's Bridal. I loved the fabric, the back, the train, and the details on the dress but...hated the front/top. But for some reason I bought the dress anyways. Enter Rose and her miracle alterations! She took in the sides, removed the straps, redid a sweetheart neckline with scalloped lace detail, added boning to make up for the support lost with the straps, created a beautifully complex bustle, and made a bunch of minor tweaks so that the dress fit me like a glove. Being a smaller busted lady, this was probably the first strapless dress I've ever worn that I didn't have to keep holding up. Fittings take place in Rose's home and are always a snap to schedule and be done with. If you need your wedding dress altered Rose is the person to do it!!! She completely transformed my wedding dress into a the gown of my dreams even though it was originally 3 times my size. Yet another rave review from a happy bride! Rose was like a little wedding angel. I brought her my wedding dress, which I bought used, thus it was all the wrong dimensions for me. She had to take in the hips about 8 inches and let out the top about 1 inch. She fixed one of the intricate ruffles on the bottom, which had been torn by the previous owner of the dress. She reattached a button and secured a bustle that should last through just about anything. Finally, she created a beautiful, perfect sweetheart neckline. In short, she worked miracles, and she was just delightful to interact with. She works from her home, which was a bit of a drive for me, but it was worth every minute of the commute. I was having a little weight problem due to some medical issues and kept losing weight before my wedding, so Rose had to keep bringing in the dress. She was so sweet about it, and when I brought the dress to a cleaner two weeks before the wedding (Rose had tried to spot clean it, but the previous owner had really dirtied up the bottom of the dress so Rose recommended I take it to a cleaner), Rose told me to try it on as soon as I got it back from the cleaner, and if I needed her to, she could bring it in more just before the wedding! SO accommodating!! She was just wonderful. Rose is super sweet, love her so much! And her skills? Oh man, couldn't be any better. I reached out to her mainly for my reception dress, because I originally purchased online through a vintage store, it's full beaded and one of a kind, but sadly the top was very big, consider I have very small chest and skinny (I wear 0 or xs), the top was literally huge on me. The dress was full beaded, I have no idea how it could be fixed, and afraid others might ruining it, since Rose got full stars on Yelp, I just contacted her to see if she could do it. After 2 months of hard work by her, the dress turned out amazing, and it fits perfectly on me. Here are some more detail how great she was: 1. She took out the majority of the beads from the top, and resew them back after she took out the extra fabrics (because it was too big for me). All beads remained on the same spot, those gifted hands! 2. I think I went to her house (her studio is at her house) for fitting for 5 times, and she encouraged me to do the fitting every time she finished some parts, just to make sure the dress will fit me perfectly. 3. She tried her best to maintain the same design, but still give professional opinion on some details. 4. attention to details. Since the dress is a vintage found, she actually found all the breaks and fixed them for me. 5, Some reviewers mentioned her price is high compare to others, but consider all the works she done for my dress (take the beads out and resew them back), I really don't think the price is high at all. I can honestly say that finding Rose Anderson Sews Bridal on Yelp was the best thing that Yelp has ever done for me...thank you fellow Yelping brides! In the sea of bridal alterations stores there are, I somehow managed to find Rose. I found her Yelp page, and also checked out her website. Looking at all the photos, I could tell right away that she knows what she is doing. I immediately gave her a call (ladies, don't panic, she doesn't usually pick up her phone. Take a deep breathe, leave a polite and informative message, and wait for a call back). She returned my call, and asked me when my wedding was, and asked to see photos of it to see what she was working with. She only takes a certain number of brides per month, and I was lucky enough to be her last November bride. I began working with her in early September, and met with her every 2 weeks. She worked my dress little by little so that I can lose weight/gain weight/do whatever I need to do. Some places told me that I need my shoes right away so they can hem it, but she did my hem at the end so I didn't need to rush on shoes. I told her I wanted my booty to show, and she did just that! I asked her to take in the sides more, and she did - then I asked her to take it out since I couldn't breathe - and she did! Rose is amazing! I had my dress taken in at the waist, a belt sewn on and a bustle. My dress has tons of layers and a long tulle train and she did the most amazing bustle I have ever seen. You couldn't even tell it was bustled. She created a stiff skirt material under the skirt of my dress so I wouldn't trip and it worked! I didn't even come close to tripping the whole night. I would recommend booking well in advance and be patient. She is extremely busy but it is well worth it. The dress I showed up with was not what I left with. I ordered it a size or two too big online. When I tried it on originally it fell straight onto the floor when I let go of it. Okay, so I actually opened a yelp account just to place a review on this alterations specialist! She was that awesome! Anyway, I inquired with Rose to have alterations done to 2 dresses for my wedding - my trumpet godavari silk rouched ceremony gown & my halter beaded sweep-trained reception dress. With my ceremony gown, I wanted to change a scooped neckline to a sweetheart neckline, correct the hem/length, take the sides in at the waist to emphasize more curves, & add weight to the train so it doesnt narrow as I walk down the aisle. For my reception dress, I purchased it 4 sizes larger than my size at a cheaper out-the-door price so I wouldn't have to wait months to receive it (which would have been way after my wedding). To begin with, I called Rose to discuss some of the changes I would like to make & then informed her that I would email her photos. I sent Rose several photos of myself in the dresses & photos of how I wished for them to look. You would not believe how quickly she returned my emails with attached samples of similar work she had done. I had sent a total of 3 emails & she made sure to cover my inquiries in a total of almost 5 emails (3 at 5:00am the next morning). With another alterations specialist, I was quoted $1000 for my ceremony gown & $1200 for my reception dress, totaling $2200 (don't go to M.C). So far from Rose, I have been quoted a flat $40 for my bustle rather than $10-20 per point, & $80 for my neckline changes. I am still working with her so I will follow up with my experiences afterward as well, but I am very happy with her responses & pricing so far. I was recommended to her by one of my bridesmaids. Rose has 20 years of experience & apparently used to work for one of San Diego's bridal shops. I have an appointment with her later today, and she only sees brides on an appointment basis to ensure brides get the time & attention they need. I will post more following the meeting & alterations. FOLLOWING MY CONSULTATION After meeting with Rose today, I found it very easy to work with her. She is very sweet, works from home, & is very accomodating. She has a reputation of getting her dresses done as scheduled & she sets up followup appointments to ensure the expectations for changes are properly met. For my ceremony dress, she charged me $275 for adding cups, adjusting the back zipper & side seams, changing the neckline to sweetheart cut, adding a beautiful french bustle, fixing the hem on both my dress & petticoat, & steaming. For my reception dress, she charged me $375, but note that the dress was significantly huge on me. I was quoted $1200 from another place. Rose's price included adding cups, front insert of 3/8", adjustments to the hem & princess cut seams, addition of a bustle, & steaming. This dress was very beaded as well so the cost is due to all the bead removing & replacing. All in all, I am saving $1550 by going to Rose. She is awesome & I just learned of how much she had altered on my friend's 2 wedding dresses. I never would have known that those dresses were altered without the bride telling me. I totally went with Rose & I can't wait for my dresses!!! JANUARY 27, 2009 - FIRST FITTING Today I went for my first fitting & to my surprise, I looked curvier in my dresses, just the way I wanted. Rose was very attentive to detail & knew exactly which areas she wanted to take in more. The best thing is that they didn't look altered! Rose knew what she was doing & did things step-by-step. She didn't machine stitch the dress seams but rather hand-stitched them to ensure that the dress fit perfectly before making the more permanent adjustments by sewing machine. Then she adjusted the sweetheart neck pattern based on the side adjustments, just to make sure the sweetheart remained centered following every change. With my reception dress, Rose had actually made it look more like my size! She even helped me figure out how to make the dress look better by crossing the straps over my back rather than tying them at the neck. The side hems & bra cups needed to be adjusted a little tighter but Rose got to noting & marking everything before I could even figure that out. At the end of the fitting, Rose made sure to photo document the changes to my dresses. FEBRUARY 7, 2009 - SECOND FITTING Before this fitting, Rose had already sent me photos of the last fitting. Best of all, she sent the photos without me requesting them & confirmed to make sure that this appointment was still good to go. When I came in to see my dresses, the ceremony dress looked done! Everything but the bustle & reattachment of beading (which was not obvious) had practically been finished. The dress was perfect! All Rose had to do was re-pin & mark the areas where the bustles would connect. The reception dress fit almost perfectly at the top. If you're wedding in 6 months, 1 year who cares! Just Do It! Rose gets beyond busy & if you're one of the chosen ones you're lucky, it's almost like being the last girl on the bachelor to get the Final Rose! No Joke! Rose is amazing I was super lucky, she worked miracles in a very short time. I just so happened to catch her during the end of her Rush Season where she just so happen to have a little availability. BRIDES BEWARE- SO RUDE!! After seeing positive reviews here and on weddingwire, I contacted Rose today regarding alterations for my upcoming wedding. I will be 5 months pregnant at the time of my ceremony, and purchased a dress several sizes larger to accommodate my bump. I called Rose requesting alteration services to adjust the dress to my needs and she was SO RUDE! She signed several times like I was an inconvenience to her, and told me I was "crazy" for getting married that far into my pregnancy. She then criticized me for choosing a gown with rouching, and basically told me it won't look good. She finally sighed and said "I guess you can send me a picture of your dress and I'll see if there is anything I can do." This woman made me feel like my alterations (which would have been several hundred dollars in business for her) was an inconvenience and would look ugly anyway. Awful service! I was referred to Rose by the bridal shop where I ordered my gown (White Flower). As soon as my dress was ordered they suggested that I look into booking the seamstress. After reading Rose's favorable reviews on Yelp I knew she was the seamstress I wanted so I contacted her immediately (about 5 months before my wedding) with pictures of my dress and my wedding date. Rose responded promptly to let me know that she was not booking appointments that far out yet but she would keep my name in her calendar book and would keep me posted on the progress of dresses she was working on that were similar in style to mine so I could get an idea of her work. Usually people say things like this but don't follow through. Rose was NOT one of these people! She sent me photos every few weeks or so of the most beautiful gowns which made me even more excited to work with her! We arranged our first meeting for 8 weeks before my wedding which is when Rose likes to start the alterations process. At our first appointment Rose outlined her fee schedule and the design process step by step. She let me know that we would be meeting every 2 weeks with our last fitting date being mutually decided by the two of us. Rose works out of her home. There is plenty of street parking and the room is very spacious. She also assured me that her husband has built her a large temperature controlled closet in her basement where she stores the dresses between fittings. She has a great deal of experience and it shows in how good she is at taking dresses from nice to aaaaamazing. Not only is Rose great at what she does but she is extremely personable and down to earth. Not only was I overjoyed with the final result of my dress but I really enjoyed getting to know Rose. WOW, wanted to like her due to all of the GREAT reviews. We called to get a bridesmaid dress altered. And called...and called. Left many messages. Tried emailing with no response. Finally got Rose herself on the phone, and she was sweet! We explained what we needed, she said no problem. She thought she could do the alterations in one fitting. We were 2 months out from the wedding at that point. As the wedding drew closer, we started calling, leaving messages, and emailing again. No responses at all. We finally gave up and went elsewhere. I have a bridesmaid dress that needs to be altered, and I found Rose here and was recommended by a friend who just recently got married--both great reviews. I shot her an email because all the reviews here say she books up so to try to get in with her early, so in my email is said very clearly (I thought) that I needed the dress for an October 29th wedding, so would this be enough time to get it done if I brought it in now. She wrote back: "It's too hard to think of October while it is now only June. Sorry for this news." Um....what? I wrote back "are you saying this is too advanced of notice?" And when she didn't respond, I called her and left her a voicemail saying that I thought maybe she misunderstood me and repeated myself that the dress needs to be done by October 29th and that it just needed to be done before then, whether I take it to her now and it's done by the middle of July or not until October would be fine, I just wanted to make an appointment and get in with her because I know she books early. She did not call me back, but this morning she emailed me back saying "Yes right at this moment, I am working with June brides, July brides and August brides. And there is no room to schedule anything later than August at this very time." I'm still not clear if that means she doesn't have any availability through October when I need the dress, or if she just doesn't schedule anything until a month or two out from when it needs to be done, which doesn't seem logical to me but I'm not a seamstress, so what do I know. Regardless, I'm not going to beg anyone to let me give them my business, so I guess I'll find someone else to alter this dress, someone who actually 1) wants business and 2) communicates clearly and professionally. read more

She worked for years as a seamstress at various bridal shops and then started her own business at home, so she has a lot of experience working on wedding gowns and really knows what she's doing. Plus, she's very affordable. Rose was a great find and thank goodness for her! My dress didn't need a lot of work done and it was very simple: hem, bustle, take in a tiny bit, cups sewn in, and she pressed it for me as well. I even brought her two of the bridesmaid dresses and she pressed those, too, at no additional cost. She also saved the day with my veil! I really wanted to wear the veil of one of my friends, but it was three-tiered and totally overwhelmed my dress. Rose took apart the layers, fixed it up nicely, and attached a new comb so I could wear just one of the panels. It was beautiful and she didn't even charge me extra! I had a snafu with my dress, the sweetheart neckline was made wrong! it was 1/4 inch higher on one side versus the other. Luckily, I had Rose to fix everything up for me. Here's what we did: redid the sweetheart neckline, added cups, dropped the back into a V shape, took in the waist, let out the hips, removed the crinoline, hemmed the dress, and created this beautiful bustle. She did the most intricate bustle on my dress (she specializes in those) and the dress was even more beautiful bustled up than it was with the train! My dress had some minor alterations: The bodice needed to be taken in, straps shortened and hemline needed to be taken up slightly. We got all of this done in three fittings. She pays so much attention to detail and it really pays off! I knew I was tripping over in my skirt but I didn't know it was because one side of my skirt was longer than the other! Her steam-pressing costs were VERY reasonable as well. She even took the time to manually clean the straps of my dress as well as steam press my veil too. Her prices were so reasonable too, especially for someone with her resume. Now the street sign is back up at her house so its much easier to find her place too! Rose is AWESOME. Absolutely excellent. I needed rouched sleeves added to my dress. And fast. Rose got it done quickly. She emailed me lots of photos of brides she had done similar work on. This lady knows her stuff. She lives in Lemon Grove/Encanto on a nice quiet street. It was easy to find. Note that there is a missing street sign so don't pass her street. At the first appt, she had me try on sample sleeves to gauge my size and get a feel for what I wanted and what would work with the dress. She then provided me with the names of a few fabric shops where I could go to try to match fabric. (Yardage Towns, mostly... not JoAnn's). I found fabric and dropped it by her place. At the second appt, about 5 days later, the sleeves were added and we checked the fit. GREAT!!! Absolutely perfect!! Once we knew the the fit was good, she did the final touches and steamed it. I picked it up a few days later. The whole process took about 2 weeks. :)))) I LOVE her work! :) The cost: $60! I was thrilled!! I TOTALLY recommend Rose. She's excellent. read more

Rose is simply incredible!!! My dress was a trumpet style that had to hug my body in just the right way. Rose was so wonderful to work with as she clearly planned out a time line for my fittings and she was able to make my dress fit me better than I could have ever dreamed! She was readily available for any questions I had in between our appointments and she always understood when I was running a few minutes late for our actual appointments :) Not only did she work on my bridal gown but she also altered a bridesmaids dress for me for a wedding I was in back in June. In addition, she altered two of my own bridesmaids dresses a week before our wedding! The reason I decided to meet with Rose in the first place was because of all the amazing yelp reviews she had received and I must say, not one word was spoken out of turn. As I previously stated, Rose is simply amazing!!! There is a good reason why her sewing room is lined with wedding dresses! My daughter started planning her wedding early, searching for venues and ordering a dress she loved online. Unfortunately, she didn't plan on being 5 months pregnant when she wore the dress down the aisle! I'm the opposite of a fancy-dress type, and know nothing at all about bridal couture, formalwear, or alterations, so when the dress no longer fit the bride-plus-baby, I turned to Google, which led me to Yelp.com and its reviews for Rose Anderson. I was so new to the practice of alterations that my initial contact was an e-mail to Rose, asking if it was even possible to make a dress *larger* instead of smaller! She e-mailed a reply that same day and I sent pics of the dress so she could get a better idea of what needed doing. It took about a thousand-pound load off my mind when she told me it was not only "do-able," but that it would be beautiful as well. My daughter and her fiance were both working a lot of hours before the wedding, so the ability to schedule meetings and fittings around their schedules was really important, and Rose was extremely accommodating in setting appointments at times that were convenient for all of us. The wedding was scheduled for January 15, and Rose actually met with us on Christmas Eve, and then again on New Years Eve, just to make sure none of us were inconvenienced! Rose basically remade the entire top half of the dress, and not only was it beautifully done, nobody could ever have guessed it had been altered at all. She also made the veil and added cups and the bustle. After the final fitting, she pressed the dress for us at no extra charge. She gave me a detailed estimate, clearly writing every step she intended to take and breaking down the cost. I was impressed by how reasonable the price was, especially considering the extremely high quality of the work she did (she took pains to get the beading on the sleeves and shoulders lined up *just* right, for example -- it was absolutely perfect; if anything, *more* exact than it was originally!). So I was downright flabbergasted when, at the final fitting, she gave me a check for a refund, because we'd ended up changing our plans slightly between the initial fitting and the completed product, so there was a small savings over the estimate amount. The dress was simply stunning, and I'm just so, so pleased. I can't recommend Rose Anderson highly enough, and in the highly unlikely event that I need alterations for any type of formal wear, I'll be at her place with bells on! read more

Rose is amazing! I would recommend contacting her via email about two months prior to needing your dress. She does not book more than a month or two in advance to the date that you need your dress! Also, she does not typically pick up the phone or respond to phone calls. I asked her why once and she said she receives too many inquiries and it's just her working her business. Anyways, my wedding dress had a lot of lace and beading on it and she made it fit beautifully along with a really nice bustle. She also added rods to keep my dress straight on my body and booby cups. I loved working with Rose. She was so sweet and it was so much nicer working with her than working with a random tailorshop. She is quite pricy but she gives you the set price up front and that price does not change. I would definitely recommend her! read more

Rose- you are an absolute gem! I am an OCD planner being a recent graduate from law school and contacted Rose months and months before my October 22, 2016 wedding date! She explained to me that while she couldn't take me early, she had room available for me; this is because she works with dresses (give or take) 2 months before the wedding as your weight will adjust often. My dress, a Monique Lhuillier couture gown, came in the smallest size possible... but being the extremely tiny person that I am, it still didn't fit! So she took it in a little over 4 inches. My dress also had layers upon layers upon layers! She did not once complain about how complicated her work would be to bustle and hem the dress. Each time I went to visit her, she was genuinely excited about my wedding asking about the details, how I was feeling, asking what I wanted in a dress and comparing it to other brides' dresses she had done. I was absolutely in the best hands. And by golly, she helped me add a bow that someone else frowned upon me for wanting it. Instead, she went with my idea and was absolutely honest about whether it should/could be done without it looking like a bow had just been placed on it. Rose saved my wedding. Not only was she able to re-make my dress top into a sweetheart shape, but she took it in 4 times due to my wedding stress weight loss and never once complained (although she did laugh one time when I came over with fries and a milkshake to try to fit in the dress). She's super reasonable and just the nicest lady. Only negative for me was that it can get pretty warm in the house, so if you have heat sensitivity like I do you may want to strap an ice pack on your leg, or maybe carry an eskimo in your back pocket. read more

Wonderful! Rose is amazing! I ordered a second wedding dress (after I decided the first one was way too fluffy for me) and it was beautiful but waaaayyy too small in the hips. I was so scared I would not be able to wear it because it would cost too much to alter. Rose was able to adjust it for $40!!!! Then she put in a bustle and some steam for all around $120. What a deal! On top of it all, she's going to have it all done within in the next week!!! For my other dress that I have being altered by the dress shop, it is $350 for just the bustle, hem, and press!!!! They also need a whole month to alter. Now I'm kicking myself for not researching this before. Go to Rose! She's so sweet and personable! read more

If you have time (and are not the procrastinating bride like I was) then I would definitely recommend going to Rose. She cares about her craft and she cares about her brides. I went here with my best friend (who is tiny! 5'1 and super petite..we knew a lot of work was needed) and I did not intend on getting alterations myself (my wedding was a month earlier and I was stubbornly adamant that I wouldn't need alterations since I am tall). Tall or not- my hubbie's a shorty so I wasn't planning on wearing heels. While there for my best friends consultation - Rose was able to convince me that I, too, should think about a hem. Boy was she right! I would have been tripping over my dress if I didn't listen to her. With only a couple of weeks left before my big day - she was able to "ghetto rig" my dress to the perfect length. I say that because I also didn't want to permanently alter the dress since I planned on reselling it, too (if anyone's interested, let me know!). She also put in a french bustle and the dress turned out beautifully! Thank you Rose for knocking some sense into me. I should know not to second guess someone who's worked with brides and their dresses for so many years! **For simpler alterations - i.e. simple hems and bustles only - Rose's prices are no different than anywhere else. For those jobs - you could go anywhere - BUT for special alterations (like Rose turning my best friend's size 10 dress into a double 00 - and she was so beautiful) - Rose is the ONLY place I'd recommend going to. read more

Another bride thrilled with Rose's work. She really worked with me to get my dress exactly how I wanted it. I found a dress at a sample sale, so it needed a lot of work, She was willing to continue to take it in until it was right. My dress also had a lot of bead work, she obviously handled it with care.
