Thankfully, we found Tina and the Village at Heritage Oaks! Susan now lives in a great apartment, has plenty of friends, and enjoys creative and unique activities. The dining room serves excellent cuisine, and the staff members are supportive, skilled, responsive, and dedicated. They clearly love the residents and, most importantly, they treat each person as a unique and valuable individual. Thanks to Tina and the amazing a a staff, my best friend is a HAPPY woman. From the outside view this facility looks amazing, however, it was anything but amazing. My dad fell multiple times and I was never notified. Majority of the time, my dad was not even transported to a medical facility for proper assessment which is what is supposed to happen, considering they don't have a registered nurse or a physician there to make an assessment. Mind you, my dad is on a blood thinner and could have bled internally. They were weeks. My dad did not get a shower and smelled like a dead corpse. My dad was confused for four days and the facility made an independent decision that it was UTI and thus did not transport him to the hospital. It wasn't until the geriatrics nurse practitioner from his regular doctors office visited him and found him confused and with a fever. When my dad went to the hospital, not only was he septic, but he also had a hemoglobin of 5.5 requiring multiple blood transfusions and invasive work up which included EGD and colonoscopy to look for the bleed. I brought up this issues with the facility multiple times with multiple care, meetings without success. I asked for my money back, and now Edward Kaiser, and the representative for the facility is giving me the run arounds and using intimidation tactics.

My father spent several months at North Pointe to complete his therapy after being in two other…read morenursing homes that were not the right fit for his needs. What truly set North Pointe apart was their willingness to accept him when no one else would, due to behavioral challenges related to his illness. This facility gave our family hope at a time when we felt like we were running out of options. I vividly remember being at the hospital for the fourth time in just one month after more heartbreaking experiences at other nursing homes. During that stay, the nurse manager connected with North Pointe. She came back and said, "The first thing they told me was, 'Bring him in...let's make him comfortable.'" From that moment on, we felt like we had finally found the right place. They welcomed my dad with open arms, and the cycle of hospital admissions stopped. It was a huge weight lifted. From day one, the staff at North Pointe was exceptional. We were comforted to see the same nurses, CNAs, and therapists each day ...people who knew my father by name and took the time to understand both him and our family. Their consistency and compassion made all the difference. I especially want to thank the CNAs, nurses, and rehab team. They are incredibly experienced with patients living with Alzheimer's, dementia, or recovering from serious illness or injury. One thing that really stood out to us was how diverse the staff was. There were team members from many different cultural backgrounds, and many of them spoke Spanish;including nurses, CNAs, front desk staff, and even members of the cleaning crew. This made a big difference in creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where communication felt more natural and respectful, especially for patients and families who speak Spanish as a first language. The facility does a great job of helping residents stay active and engaged. The backyard area is one of the highlights...patients are able to walk outdoors safely, surrounded by large shade trees and grassy areas. There's even a big birdcage that many of the residents enjoy. Inside, there's also a piano, and music is played. It's comforting to know that patients aren't just confined to their rooms...they have opportunities to socialize and enjoy the outdoors in a secure setting. While the front porch offers a nice place to visit and provides some privacy, it gets hot during the summer. Unfortunately, there's no designated indoor area for families to sit with loved ones privately, which made daily visits uncomfortable at times. The backyard is more of a shared space, and you'll often be surrounded by other residents. That felt a little intrusive in the beginning, but I quickly grew fond of many of the residents over time...they meant no harm, and it became a familiar, even comforting, part of our routine. The rooms are usually shared between three residents. That can be a challenge, but the staff works hard to match roommates based on compatibility. Everything is gated, which is a huge comfort if your loved one has memory issues or a tendency to wander. Safety is clearly a top priority. That said, the facility really needs renovations. The closets, dining room, and especially the bedding are outdated. We noticed torn linens more than once. It's time for ownership to invest in this space. Our seniors deserve not only excellent care...but an environment that reflects their dignity and worth. North Pointe has the heart and the team. With updated rooms, furniture, and better indoor common areas, it could become truly exceptional. Staffing was also stretched at times. While every staff member we interacted with was dedicated and hard-working, it was clear they were doing more than their fair share. They need more support from leadership. The social work team was also understaffed and could improve in communication and follow-up. I'm sharing all of this because I know how difficult it is to choose the right nursing home. We relied on honest reviews when we made our decision... and a lot of places had a lot of fake reviews....and I'm so grateful we chose North Pointe. It's not perfect, but what matters most...the staff are truly outstanding. They cared for my father with patience, skill, and compassion, and they gave our family peace during an incredibly stressful time. Thank you, North Pointe.

I am updating the review, because of the misunderstanding that they also contract with Honors Home Health ..who provides the staffing. Cheryl will go above and beyond when situations happen, and I felt bad because she works hard and does a great job with setting up her clients. Our unfortunate incident, hopefully will help any future families to not have to go through with what happened to us. It doesn't solve our problem, and now I will have to start the process all over again. 12/4/2021 I really, really wanted this to work out.. My two son's needed some caregiver relief, and was really counting on the care... Unfortunately, we set up a schedule for coverage, of Friday-Sunday... The previous weekend of Saturday and Sunday was covered... (they couldn't find anyone for Friday's shift) ... Yesterday, received a text an hour before the shift saying the caregiver would not be coming... Ughhhhhh...so my son's had to rearrange their schedule to come back and watch their dad who has brain cancer-GBM... We questioned if we were going to have coverage for today, and they said they were working on it. Later in the evening, received a text that we do have coverage.. My oldest had plans to travel to the Bay Area for a birthday celebration, while the youngest was scheduled to work.. An hour before we received another text saying no caregiver!!.... I cancelled the contract as of today, and now my son's are changing their plans again because of this mishap... Cheryl was great in helping us with the intake papers, and also mentioned that if we committed, we would have a better chance of getting the same caregiver.. Of course there is a shortage of workers, but still this does not help us with our situation. corre

After researching…read moreand visiting numerous care homes, Comforts of Home seemed to be the best fit and checked the most boxes for me. I went in knowing that there is no perfect place for Mom, and what I did not expect was how much most of the caretakers truly cared for their clients. Additionally, they were punctual with the medicine distribution and cleaning of the home; and careful and responsive to each clients specific needs.Even with her advancing Alzheimer's, it was clear that she was cared for and loved. She spent the last year and a half of her life at CoH, and I have no regrets with that placement. The owners are personally involved with each home, and were very kind, compassionate and responsive as well. We were even able to build wonderful relations with Maria and David (owners) and the care team.
