    a plate of chili fries

went with a few friends to try their famous fries. There were three options: fries ($5), poutine ($7), and poutine + bacon ($8). They charge the prices as is so decently priced! Overall they were decent but didn't blow me out of the water or anything. I think the poutine/fries themselves were decently good but nothing else really going for it (at least when I went). The farm shop had a couple of different squashes, potatoes, and corn. Usually, they seen to have strawberry picking (as it says on their website) but they were unable to have it this year. Not much else to do other than eat and is in pretty much the middle of nowhere. Wouldn't say that the fries weren't worth it but there's a lot of other places I could go for food for a 30 minutes drive. My review would be closer to 3.5 stars but nothing exceptional I felt with the overall experience or the food. Maybe I'll come back if the rest of the stuff was available but at the moment, I wouldn't really highly recommend.

As the name suggests, it's family owned and run farm. The farm strawberries and Yukon Potatoes . The farm has pick your own strawberries or buy at the counter option. You can either bring your own basket or buy 1$ each basket. Berries are fresh and delicious. Farm is decent in size. The potato sack is like 4$ for 20 pounds, fine quality. They serve steak and freshly made fries and poutine onsite. There are a lot of picnic tables and garden furniture to sit and relax. Beautifully done. Ample of parking spots. Love this place.

This review is specifically related to pumpkin picking and the poutine. I may change the rating if I come back for strawberry picking or the fun barn. After not getting the poutine I was promised last weekend, I decided to haul my family out to Rose's where I'd heard they have awesome poutines and pumpkin picking. I thought I could knock off two birds with one stone. Well, it turns out while you can technically pick your own pumpkin, it's basically picking from a pile that they've already picked for you, and not picking from the field as I had imagined. A bit of a disappointment there. I bought a pumpkin and some spaghetti squash anyway (they also have acorn and butternut squashes, I think they were $3 each or 2 for $5) but that was a bit of a puzzling experience - there isn't anywhere obvious to pay for it, nor is there anyone standing around to help guide you. The majority of the pumpkins are close to the indoor fun barn, but if you want to go to the 'chip truck', once you turn onto the farm property, it's closer if you keep driving straight past the fun barn on the left, and park in the small lot by the actual farm. We ordered a regular poutine, as well as a supreme poutine, which is basically a regular poutine with bacon. Having seen other people's poutines, I asked for extra gravy, and I'm glad I did. I wish I'd asked for extra cheese too. As poutines go, this was decent for Ontario. The gravy isn't the dark beefy gravy that is so popular out west, but not a light chicken gravy either... I am guessing that it might be vegetarian or vegan? The fries are pretty thick cut - they're fine, if a little pale for my liking (the fries are my least favourite part), but I think other fry aficionados would like it. The cheese curds were real, but they were very small bits, as if it was from the bottom of the bag. I was satisfied with the poutine but I don't think I would come out of my way for it.

Fresh cut fries, poutine, and gravy

Poutine, fries and gravy. Unfortunately, gravy wasn't hot and cheese curds didn't melt properly. Left with a lot of just hard unmelted pieces on the side at the end. Waiting time was an hour just to get some fries. Quite disappointing that 4 people were in the chip truck but only one girl was actually working (from taking order, to frying the chips, and delivery).

I tried the poutine here today and I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Yes the potatoes are grown right there on the farm so they are supposed to be fresh. The fries I had didn't really taste fresh though. They have an odd texture where the outside is crispy but once you bite into it it's like air and the fry just collapses. Maybe the potatoes were dehydrated?? My husband said the same thing and we both really like French fries. The actual place itself is nice. There are a lot of tables outside and there is also a small building where you can also sit and eat if the weather isn't great. They sell potatoes, pumpkins, pies, jams, and meats. It's family friendly and dog friendly.

My wife had the poutine; fresh cheese curds, country style gravy, home cut fries that taste like real farm potatoes.

There's also a large area for sunflowers and pumpkin patch. Kids would enjoy the maze and large bumpy slide. Market: amazing variety. I am afraid to go inside especially the baked goods area. Everything is orderly and fresh. Going to buy all my veggies here from now on. RTBF also has a CSA program where vegetables can be delivered/picked up (curbside available) until early November. The portions and variety are amazing! We're so happy to have joined. Price was also very reasonable. Everything is always so fresh and tastes amazing. Our favourite are the cherry tomatoes. I have been eating them like candy! Some CSA items have been in our fridge for over a week and still looking fresh. A weekly letter is sent to give us ideas of what to make or maybe frozen for later. One of the perks of being in the CSA bin program is that admission to the farm is complimentary and we can come back anytime! Perfect if you have kids in the family. They also give you some veggies to feed the animals. Lots of parking. You can park on the grass if the gravel lot is full. Staff are very nice and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back soon!

Not to mention it's dirt cheap. I eat A LOT of fruits and veggies, which can get pretty pricey...thanks to Fruit King I can afford to feed myself :) And the good doesn't stop there. For such a tiny hole-in-the-wall market they still manage to have a great variety of produce. I should mention though that if you're looking for a fully stocked grocery you've come to the wrong place. However, they do carry things are difficult to find in regular groceries (for example, lemon grass...I can NEVER find lemon grass!). And you'll find other goodies besides fruits and veggies-- cheap spices, dry noodles, Asian cooking sauces, canned/jarred goods, dried fruit, etc. As far as service goes it's top-notch. The cashiers ring-in and bag your purchases at the speed of light. Fruit King is just plain delicious!

I just purchased 2 tubs of fresh organic strawberries for $3! Steal! That is way cheaper than St. Lawrence Market. I will keep my eye out for similar deals whenever I pass this place again. The inside of the store looks very similar to a Chinatown store setup, with a scale and 1 cashier at the front that quickly processes the transactions. It's true, there's no service provided here, and the area where they place the vegetable looks quite dingy but the freshness of their produce and price is what the 4 stars are for.

This "farm" was more like a garden centre + a nice grocery store that sells primarily produce, a good share of baked goods, & some bottled items like preserves, maple syrup, jams, honey, etc. There was no "pick your own" strawberries. At least none that I saw anyway. What sorta leaves a sour taste in my mouth is that farms always promote this support, "Eat Local" mentality, but their prices seem on-par with Whole Foods: 3 tri-coloured bell peppers - $7+, a dozen free-range eggs - $4.50, a pint of strawberries - $6, a pint of peaches/nectarines - $5 (almost $1/ea), etc. I just had an egg this morning and it tasted like a regular, store bought egg. Nothing discerning about it. I also bought a 8" peach pie and wished that I had chosen another fruit. As I cut into the pie, I noticed that all the peach slices were all spread out, covering may 50% of the filling. The rest of it was clear, sweet, gelatin. My friend get a Saskatoon berry and the filling was more consistent. So if you're planning to get a pie, SKIP the peach! I thought that buying straight from the source would be cheaper/same prices at the grocery store, but BETTER quality, but I guess I was wrong.

Do you love garlic?…read more The taste, the smell, the medicinal benefits! I do (obviously, right?)! I love to cook with it. I love to crush it up and eat it raw when I feel a cold coming on. It's an excellent support for the immune system. The most flavorful and fresh garlic I have found in Ontario is from The Cutting Veg/Organic Farmer Daniel Hoffmann. Years ago I was part of a CSA and enjoyed all kinds of produce Daniel harvested, including his amazing garlic. Fast forward a couple of years later. Now The Cutting Veg focuses on selling its sumptuous, local, organic garlic to individuals and bulk buyers. There are many varieties to choose from: Persian, Sicilian, Korean, Tibetan, Italian, and Russian to name a few! And all are organic. Customers like myself can order online and either have it delivered to your home for a fee - or pick up at one of five locations (in Toronto, Markham, or Sutton). I just received four heaping bags of super fresh and tasty garlic. I can't tell you the difference between buying The Cutting Veg garlic and buying garlic in a grocery store. The latter is typically lifeless, sad, and lacking in aroma and taste. Every one of my family and friends who have tasted Daniel's garlic notes the difference and are amazed by it. On a personal note, my dealings with The Cutting Veg have always been excellent. I find Daniel to be a noble, honest, and hardworking farmer who I am more than happy to support. I am super happy with this harvest of local organic garlic and highly recommend it to others!
