Rosebud has a cute old diner vibe from the outside but you will be surprise by the size of this place once you walked inside. They also have a nice covered patio area. I usually come for their French toast during brunch and it is truly one of the best French Toasts I have tried. We came in a little bit after 5pm as we wanted to avoid the crowd. This place could get pretty busy at night and brunch on weekends. Our server was attentive and friendly. We ordered a Burger, Kale Salad with Fried Chicken, Fried Chicken with Biscuits and French Dip Sandwich plus Fried Calamari to share. The Calamari was interesting and different. It was cover with hot pepper and chili. It would be a good dish for someone who love spicy food. Your tongue will be on fire. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy. Burger was a little bit undercooked for a medium rare but the fries were pretty good. Their chicken with Biscuits was flooded with a rich caramel flavored sauce, it's quite addictive. French Dip Sandwich was nothing special. Kale salad was fresh but the fried chicken was a little dry. One thing that we were not happy was the loud noise and laughters from a few staffs gathering around the bar area. It didn't match the nice atmosphere of the restaurant during early dinner hours. I made a reservation for dinner on Friday night, although it seems as though we would have been able to sit if we had just walked in. My friends and I him got a round of pickle back shots. They had different whiskeys you could choose from and they also had a spicy pickle juice - which my friends really enjoyed. They also had a wide selection of cocktails and beers. The food was very good, I had gotten the mac and cheese and my friends got chicken sandwiches. The only ok part about this experience was the sever was very pushy on giving his opinion about which food we should get and what type of shot we should get. It almost felt like we didn't have a choice. We also asked him to split the bill for us, which I know is very annoying of us to ask, but he verbally said "oh god" in response. This is an appealing-looking restaurant from the inside and it's attached to a small old-school diner. We came here for brunch and they seated us in the attached diner. The area is confined so it's quite loud and every conversation around us was amplified. They did have a social distance barrier for each booth which is nice. The menu was a combination of unfussy food options and a variety of craft cocktails. As far as parking goes, there's only street parking but we drove around and found a few open spots. Monkey Bread- Sweet, sticky, pastry. It was unfortunately stale and they can do without using jimmies to spruce up a pastry. Avocado & Burrata Toast- Toasted bread, avocado, burrata, carrots, radish, cilantro. They lightly dusted this with a seasoning. It wasn't bad but it was more on the plain side since avocado, carrots, radish, and burrata individually on their own are bland. Chicken & Waffle- Fried chicken thigh, maple, and black pepper gravy, scallion, bacon. I would reach asking for the sauce and syrup on the side if they will allow it. This ended up being soggy once it got to us but it wasn't horrible. The chicken was tender and the gravy was flavorful. But I bet it would have been amazing if it had that crunchy goodness from the waffle and fried part of the chicken. Zombie and #brunchpunch- Our drinks were too strong and were undrinkable. I've been here a few times and it's always a great vibe! The service is always super fast and efficient and they're very friendly and helpful. My mom and I had a wonderful meal here today and the deviled eggs were so delicious I ordered some to go! the lamb and pea cottage pie was so comforting and a nice blend of spices (not spicy either which was good for my mom who doesn't handle spicy well!) and the butter chicken pot pie was served with a great puffed pastry over delicious chicken and rice. Chilli toast was just raw onion with a slice of American cheese. Deviled eggs were a bit better--the filling was decent but egg was overcooked (also it was $12 for 4...). I got the street noodles which appeared to be on a secondary menu. When I asked about it the waiter said it was with veggies, however when I got it, it was like 2 slices of peppers and some green onions with a mound of ok noodles and limited sauce. There was not much flavor to them. The Chicken and waffles was the better of the dishes, but chicken could have been crispier and I was expecting a bit more of a twist onto the dish. Rosebud is one of my go-to spots for brunch in Davis Square because it's easy to get reservations and the food is usually pretty solid. Ambiance is interesting here. The front diner car is kitschy and a but worn out, just like a classic diner. Only issue here is that it can get pretty loud in this section. The rest of the restaurant is modern with a sort of western vibe and warm lighting, better for a nicer dinner and such. Service is usually pretty decent. Sometimes it can seem really hectic with servers zipping around but haven't had many follies in this area. The food at Rosebud is usually pretty good. Not my favorite in Davis, but never terrible. For brunch, the chicken and waffles are incredible. The country croque Madame I had this past weekend was a bit overcooked and dry, would not recommend. But the side salad was really good. The omelettes and French toast have always been good too. This place is a good option if Foundry On Elm or Elm Street Taproom are full or you're looking for a change of pace. read more

The menu has several options listed as GF, that I would caution against for Celiac Disease. Their fried "GF" items are in a shared fryer (making them no longer gluten free). There are limited options that are not cross contaminated. One of them being their GF French toast, it was described as having a chai butter on top with a cardamom powdered sugar. My first memories of Rosebud were epic. It used to be our favorite dinner spot on Davis Sq. I recently returned after 7 years and I was disappointed to see that management had changed and the attention to detail in the menu, the service, and the style was diminished. Let me elaborate. It was not crowded at all and I asked if we could have one of the booths instead of a smaller table, the waitress said that you had to book it even though the Resy app didn't let me select the type of table as I mentioned to her. We ended up getting a table. None of the booths were reserved or occupied during our entire dinner. The food was ok but I would not recommend Rosebud if you are looking for great experience. Food was average but acceptable. Some of the least friendly staff I have ever encountered at a restaurant. The servers rushed me and my friend through every phase of the meal, it was obvious they were pushing us from the beginning. One server forgot to ask my friend how he wanted his steak prepared so she had to come back and ask, which demonstrates her lackadaisical attitude. I finished my cocktail relatively quickly and rarely say no to a second, and was never asked if I wanted another, but 20 minutes after I finished my drink the employee asked if she could take my empty glass but only becuase she and the rest of the staff were more focused on getting us out of the restaurant. Staff kept coming back to the tables around us, pretending to clean up to put pressure on us to leave, which only made the experience more uncomfortable. We ended up leaving before closing time, so it's not like we had even overstayed our welcome. read more

I recently hosted a private event here and don't have enough positive things to say about Rosebud, their staff (especially manager Raunak) and the food. From the moment we started planning, Raunak was quick to respond, conscious of our budget and knowledgeable about what food would be appropriate for our 75 person gathering. The food was amazing! We had chicken wings, burger and cheeseburger sliders, Samosas and dal hummus, french fries, onion rings, 4 dipping sauces. Every dish was better than the last. The flavors were vibrant without being overpowering and it was the perfect comfort of fall comfort food. Throughout the night, Raunak checked on how we were doing, if we needed anything. I did not enjoy the caramelized onions and tomato jam and my eggs were over-cooked. This was my second visit to the restaurant and therefore this review is somewhat of an average of the two experiences. My first trip there was for dinner on a weekend where we got come cocktails that were pretty good and I had the the brisket sandwich with the cheese skirt. This meal was pretty good and there was no wait and overall a 4-star experience. Last weekend we had to wait over an hour for a table (host said 45-1hr but it was raining so ppl took forever to get the heck out of there). We ordered the burrata appetizer which was flavorful but pretty small portion. I wanted to stay on the healthy side and got the grain bowl with added chicken and it was really disappointing. There wasn't any real standout flavor. The vegetables seemed fresh but they just didn't hit the mark. The chicken on top had some good pieces but was kind of a careless portion of dark meat, gristle, white meat, and juices on top of the onions in the bowl. The other folks in my party were pretty happy with their meals, the chicken and waffles I tried was very tasty. I'd probably come back for brunch but likely not for dinner, the menu is just a little on the limited side for my taste. Reading the previous reviews that called this place dingy or reasonably priced are a little misleading. Rosebud is nicely designed and modern, it does not entirely match the diner exterior that I was expecting. The food is great quality and very delicious. One of the better brunch spots I have tried in Boston' The prices won't break the bank, but it's a more sophisticated take on diner food. I ordered the western omelette, which was scratching my diner food itch. I have a gluten allergy, so I substituted the homefries for a side salad, and they were kind enough to include some avocado and fruit on the side for me as well!! Which definitely earned huge brownie points. The fresh squeezed orange juice was incredible!! Still thinking about it haha. The coffee was also great. The wait time for the service was a little long, but the servers were incredibly kind and apologetic. So overall it didn't really bother me. Good food and love being here! This is the restaurant in Davis Sq with a strikingly cute vintage diner exterior. The inside is more spacious than you'd think, there are a few different seating sections as well as a long bar. Sitting in the front "diner" area is of course the most fun though. Service has always been great. I usually try ordering something different here and I've had a few meals that I probably wouldn't rush back for but it's always edible at the very least! Truffle fries are 10/10. I'm obsessed with the boozy milkshakes and can slurp them down faster than they make them. I'm probably biased on the shakes though...Has anyone ever had a *bad* chocolate milkshake with bourbon? Probably not.
