Good food and love being here! This is the restaurant in Davis Sq with a strikingly cute vintage diner exterior. The inside is more spacious than you'd think, there are a few different seating sections as well as a long bar. Sitting in the front "diner" area is of course the most fun though. Service has always been great. I usually try ordering something different here and I've had a few meals that I probably wouldn't rush back for but it's always edible at the very least! Truffle fries are 10/10. I'm obsessed with the boozy milkshakes and can slurp them down faster than they make them. I'm probably biased on the shakes though...Has anyone ever had a *bad* chocolate milkshake with bourbon? Probably not. They also do vanilla and coffee flavors but I always go for the choc so I can't speak on those. Rosebud is a classic Davis staple. Will be back! read more

Came here for brunch on Saturday and the waitlist is LONG. The hostess originally said 30 minutes but of course things could end up slower, so we waited nearly an hour. Definitely try to book a table ahead of time! The place itself is pretty big. From the outside I thought that it'd be pretty vintage looking and it kind of is but in a pretty modern way. The only thing I disliked was how dim the place was! But anyways, after getting seated we ordered the Huevo Rancheros and the Hash + Eggs.The waitress was super nice and made sure to refill our waters often. The food itself was pretty lackluster for both plates. The serving size was quite small for the price (both were about ~$17 each). By no means am I calling the food bad, but for waiting this long and paying this much, we just were expecting to be wow'ed a bit more - still tasty though! Overall, this place is okay. My wife and me tried Rosebud for the first time tonight. We were seated in the rail car booth and enjoyed the fabulous range of music playing on the overhead speakers. We had three different servers approach us several times each during our meal, but they were not pushy, just very attentive. The menu was varied with lots of great options. Adult Capri Sun any one?! I've dined at this restaurant on several occasions and the food is always so yummy. There's a large selection of burgers and American food to choose from. I most recently gravitated towards the grain bowl entree and it was so delicious. Although I typically get meat on my meals, I went with eggs and avocado for the grain bowl and it was just filling enough. The drinks are also yummy and there's a sufficient selection of beers and cocktails to choose from. I loved getting stein's of beer in the fall! The restaurant does have a train car section that is intimate, so please be sure to make reservations ahead of time if you'd like to join on a weekend, which is expected to be busy. I'd like to note that the service is consistently painfully lagging, even on slow weekday evenings we dined in. One time, it felt like our group of 8 was being completely ignored because we could hardly get the waiters attention all night. I recently attended a private event held in the bar area of the Rosebud, set up by a friend. They provided buffet appetizers then mains, and dessert which we, a diverse multi-generational group, heartily enjoyed! The food was spicy fries, regular fries, chaat, pakora, sliders, noodles, risotto, gulab jaman for dessert. Everything was SO DELICIOUS with all the right sauces: mint, chili, ranch, ketchup. The cocktails were to die for and there's also a good selection of beers on draft. Have lived in the area for almost 18 years and this was WAY better food, service and experience than I remembered at the Rosebud from a long time ago. Cozy diner with excellent brunch food- would definitely come here again to try the lunch/dinner menu! The chicken and waffles were AMAZING and they looked beautiful. Sweet, salty, crunchy, yummy, you name it. Portion was substantial too. Would come back just for that. Hash & eggs were great too - although less hash than I would have liked. There are other things in there like asparagus mushrooms etc. that take up some space but overall good- the sauce was tasty. We got two mocktails- the grapefruit spritz and the tropical punch but both were too sour for our liking. It tasted fresh but perhaps the fruits weren't quite in season yet. From the outside, the restaurant didn't look that big (with the diner car front and center) but once inside you realize how nice the restaurant is. We were searching the Medford/Arlington/Somerville area for a full service breakfast spot with great food and comfortable seating. We were so happy to find Rosebud in Davis Square. It looks like a tiny train car diner from the outside. We were surprised to discover that it connects to a large restaurant space with lots of comfortable seating. The menu offers traditional diner dishes e.g., omelette, eggs benedict, French toast. but also interesting Indian inspired fare as well such as avocado toast with green curry and chili crunch (delicious!). The tater tots and home fries were crispy and tasty. Another surprise: delicious coffee! ... whereas other breakfast places often serve watered down coffee...this coffee was dark and tasty. The first time we came there was no wait around 10:30AM on a Saturday, but the next time we came around noon on a Saturday and it was about a 20 minute wait. Pros: -Donuts that rotate monthly(?) Cons: -Menu online isn't up to date with the rotating donuts -Online reservation system doesn't seem to work -- S'mores Donut ($4.00) Chocolate chip cake donut with graham cracker crumb topped with a ring of toasted marshmallow. This cake donut was awesome--it wasn't super moist but definitely was not dry, had a bit of a crispy exterior, was SO soft inside, wasn't oily at all, and wasn't overly sweet. The graham cracker crumble was reminiscent of a coffee cake topping. The only part I didn't love was the marshmallow because I'm not a fan in general. It didn't really taste like s'mores but this is one of the best donuts I've had recently and I can't wait to try more! Cookie Dough Brownie Pie ($8 for a slice) Chocolate chip cookie dough chunks on top of no-bake vanilla cheesecake, fudge brownie cheescake(?) on a chocolate cookie crust. The cookie dough was plentiful and had good texture but the taste was off, and the "fudge brownie" component didn't taste much like brownie (but was probably still the best part). The crust was crispy and tasted a little oily/burnt. Despite how awesome it sounds/looks, I wouldn't recommend. Salted Honey Roll ($5.00) Looks like a cinnamon roll if the icing were replaced with salt and honey glaze. The dough was super soft and buttery and it came out warm, but I didn't like the salty/savory flavor. Coconut Caramel Cake Donut ($5.00) Brown butter cake donut covered in toasted coconut and drizzled with caramel. The donut was huge but a little dry, especially with all of the coconut topping. Such a sad review to write, as I used to LOVE this place. I feel like they are probably riding the goodwill the previous ownership built in the community over the years, and their main audience is probably people who remember the previous restaurant fondly. I had an omelette and it was very undercooked and wet, I could barely eat it. The bacon was clearly Oscar Meyer microwavable bacon strips. The food was so tasteless that I questioned whether I had COVID (I did not). The prices are far too high for such mediocre food. I asked for jam/jelly for my toast and they did not have any (strange considering this place serves brunch) so they brought honey. The gastrointestinal side effects hit about an hour after eating here. Another strange thing: no salt & pepper on the table to season the tasteless food. A guy at the next table over was so put off by the food that he sent it back; another group of diners was outside discussing how bad the food was. In terms of ambiance, there were several strange elements: way-too-loud music for brunch time, the place was half empty but we were "not allowed" to sit in a booth with just two of us, really random smattering of decor all around. I ventured into the Rosebud Diner about a week ago for a quick dinner. I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and the house-made ginger beer. There is on street parking nearby and a small town lot opposite the restaurant. At 6:45pm parking was hard to secure. I sat at the bar where service was slower than expected but friendly. The house made ginger beer was tasty but had a bit too much of the jalapeño flavor, this from a person who typically likes heat. The Nashville hot chicken was more hot than it was flavourful, think of a chicken sandwich overpowered by the taste of a Tabasco like sauce only this is fried into the batter of the chicken. I didn't finish the meal. However, I will return to try other things on the menu that don't require as much balance for flavours. read more

I know the recent change from classic diner to Indian-fusion, not to mention the change in management and staff, has been controversial. But I have to say, I had a very nice meal at the "new" Rosebud. The food was delicious, the cocktails balanced and unique, and the fusion concepts very clever. The exterior was very cute (old diner vibes) Food: I had the Mac and cheese w the fried chicken thigh and a side of pickles. The fried chicken was great. Would recommend. TLDR: 10/10 restaurant, epic Indian fusion cocktails and food, amazing service, top of the list for places to go. Rosebud underwent a recent culinary overhaul where they introduced Indian fusion recipes as a main theme of their American diner concept. I had been to Rosebud before and the original American brunch/diner food was good, however these changes put Rosebud back at the top of the list of somerville and greater Boston restaurants. We had the dirty chai martini and Friends in hi-biscus places (lychee/hibiscus vodka cocktail), and both were absolutely incredible, the chai was a perfect blend of spiced and the lychee garnish was also very fresh. For food, the wings were hot, crunchy, and tender, with the mango chutney flavor coming in well. The main food itself was some of the best Indian food I've had in boston, even better than the non-fusion Indian places. As an Indian person it's the best Indian fusion food I've had ever, and I highly recommend Rosebud to anyone wanting to explore Indian food. The kerala fried chicken+green chili waffle is a MUST, that waffle blew us away with its quality of spice and I will most definitely be getting that again. The butter chicken pot pie was another amazing dish, as the butter chicken was perfectly authentic, not like any of the other Indian places that american-ize the dishes and add too much tomato. If you see bad reviews for the changes please look past them, as they are most likely white townies that have never had South Indian food or experienced everything Indian fusion food has to offer. Our experience here was absolutely flawless. Everything from the ambience to the service was five stars. The atmosphere and decor is not overwhelming or cringey, and very tasteful. They built it around an old diner car which was very cute and made it stand out on the street. They do not have MUCH outdoor dining, but the tables they do have are nicely orientated under fairy lights. This is the first restaurant I have gone to which offers pickleback shots on the menu, which is incredibly fun and unique. They have a massive liquor menu, as well as a few signature cocktails and fun drinks for those not drinking alcohol. We got the jalapeño bites for an appetizer, and while they were so large they only came in a set of three, they were so delicious. The menu is smaller than other places that have a sort of "diner" aesthetic, but every dish is specifically made to be perfect and unique. I got the truffle Mac n cheese while my boyfriend got the chicken and waffles and both were to die for. Amazing. My boyfriend is from the south, and struggles to find southern food done to his liking up here, but he thought this was amazing. We finished with the skillet cookie, which was also somehow done better than any other place I've tried. Liz was our waitress and she was incredibly personable and funny and sweet. We really liked her. The host was kind as well, and we liked every interaction we had with him as well. I will definitely recommend Rosebud to family and friends and I will come back. read more

Had one of the BEST meals here last night. We made a last minute reservation for the covered patio to avoid the rain last night. The patio has a roof and then plexiglass on the sides of the tables to create little "booths", which felt very safe. Not to mention the directionals on the floor, loads of hand sanitizers, and staff with masks! I ordered the skillet roast chicken with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The front is more diner vibes and the back is restaurant vibes with a full bar. I think they also have a small outdoor seating area as well. Iconic. This is the word I read and heard from my friends, roommates, websites, and other yelpers. I decided to drop by this morning as it was definitely a MUST-TRY on my list of places to visit. I made a reservation and at the same time asked if I could reserve a ASIAN BBQ HOG HEAD $39.95 gochujang BBQ, kimchi, ginger scallion relish, biscuits (serves 2-4) a week and a half in advance cause I wanted to make sure we got one. Rosebud American Kitchen and Bar is much larger than the dining car set along the sidewalk. The entrance is actually tucked in behind the right side, and they have their desserts presented temptingly right by the hostess station. I was a little early, yet my table was ready and they gave me the option of being seated first, so that I could await the remainder of my party in relative comfort. Our table was located in the dining car, which was neat, but it was also a little noisy in there. After an inquiry about the portion size, under the advisement of our waitress, we added a single entree to our pig head for our group of 4 - their Loaded Mac N' Cheese $20.95 cheesy shells, bacon, smoked ham, pulled pork, edamame, scallions, parmesan breadcrumbs. Both arrived at the table at the same time. The lacquered half head of hog was impressive, its scored skin glistening, encircled by eight toasted buns (two of which were already generously pre-filled), two sauces, and a large jar of fresh shredded vegetables. I had ordered this primarily for the photo op and for my spicy eating friends. However I managed quite well filling my two slider buns with a good portion of meat while adding the sauces and the veggies with a light hand. The meat was tender and moist, while the skin lacked a crispness that I had been hoping for. The mac and cheese was puny in comparison, served in a metal dish rather shallowly filled for its price, in a restaurant known for its generous portions. It was a rich dish, however, with a nice contrast in textures lent by the toasted breadcrumbs. My friends found the drink menu intriguing and were satisfied with our meal, so they voiced their interest in revisiting this establishment in the future. I have been to Rosebud before. But I was here for brunch for the first time. I had made reservations couple of days prior. We really got cozy and comfortable seating. I really appreciate the covid proofing that is being done. That puts you at ease immediately. Their no booze drink menu is great. Lemon lavender fizz is really refreshing.
