Although I did swear off on the old location I wanted to give this new location a chance. I've been to the new joint twice, once outside on the small patio and once at the bar. Had the grilled calamari appetizer both times and a crab/lobster soup on the most recent visit. The calamari is excellent. They grill whole pieces of it along with a few tentacles and assorted peppers with a killer clear sauce. The soup was a dud. There was hardly any seafood in it and was very plain tasting. The tables in the dining room are much more spaced out at this location and it has a large U shaped bar. Thats a big plus over the super cramped old joint. They still have valet parking but with this new location there are ample parking spaces. Service was very good both times and the food was served hot, also an improvement over the old place. I'm upping my rating to 3 stars. They'll get another one if they get rid of the silly surcharge crap. read more

Love their happy hour. Great deal, quiet, fun bartender and excellent right-sized food. Besides that, I recently catered in an 80th birthday party for six people using Rosebud for appetizers and entrées. It actually wasn't my first choice but the other was closed and I am so glad I deferred. The food was delicious. Went to Rosebud tonight when we were in town visiting from Iowa. Had a reservation but arrived a little early and they sat us immediately. Our server Norma came over immediately and got us water and bread. Got our orders, and the bottle of prosecco that we ordered. Everything from the food to the service and the ambiance was stellar! I cannot say enough good things about our server Norma. She was an absolute gem. I myself am in the hospitality industry and she is one of the best servers I have ever had. Was there when we needed her, but not overbearing either. Just excellent service and food. If you are in the area, you should definitely stop by here. 10/10 would recommend. Sorry, no picture. The location of the restaurant is great, it's in downtown Deerfield where there is plenty of parking. We had reservations got seated right away, got bread and sticks right away, water, ordered our food which was a huge portion, not something you see everyday which was amazing. I had high hopes for this place. We sadly don't have a lot of restaurants in Deerfield, especially ones with a nice bar! This has a lovely large bar and I've come in a few times to meet friends for a drink. But the food was a solid meh. Not bad, per se, but definitely not crave-able. I remember back when it was in Highland Park, and it was good (but not great). Then I still enjoyed it a bit at its more recent Deerfield location. Now, however, it is clear how much it has gone downhill. The space itself is rustic but modern and sleek. If the food can get better (always possible!), it would make it way easier for me to want to go. My most recent visit was easily the worst one, despite enjoying spending time with my friend. The waitress was very nice, but she disappeared for very long stretches (this happened on other visits too, with other waiters/waitresses). When I wanted a refill on my soft drink, once she finally got to our table, she said she'd refill it. 10-15 minutes later, at least, she came back to our table to let us know she'd get it. I think she forgot about it outright. This is one of those spots where you have to make eye contact with the servers so that they can come to you, if you want them to come in intervals under 10+ minutes. Instead of the eggplant stack salad (open to getting that next time, since my friend loves it), I got the similar ish eggplant parmesan. Once I got it, in its hilariously hulking portion, it was disappointing. It looked nice, but it was lukewarm at best. It is silly to me when people exaggerate and call their food "ice cold," and it wasn't, but it was a slab of eggplant that was barely warm in the center. It seemed almost as if it was prepped, left in a fridge, and then heated back up. That makes sense for prep purposes, but it was not heated up in a way that was consistent...or appetizing. It's one thing when you struggle with reheating or temperatures in your own kitchen, but to pay over $20 for that sort of mistake is pretty frustrating. Also, the flavors weren't anything special. Meanwhile, the side of pasta they give you is pathetic. It was a somewhat flavorful tomato sauce that was disgusting to look at. The water from the pasta and/or sauce pooled at the bottom. These are things that low quality restaurants provide (or mistakes one might make at home), but this sort of poor quality was present at a restaurant that tries to act like an upscale Italian quasi-steakhouse. read more

Came here last minute the other night as the weather was bad and we couldn't get into the city for our plans. Dinner was for my husband, our two teens and myself. We used to eat at Rosebud all the time before they moved to this new location. On the positive side the place was busy and it was a weeknight. Our server was lovely and truly made us feel welcome. These are good things. The true negatives were the space is loud and needs some sort of sound dampening and the music being played was like EDM and was simply horrible. More importantly this place is expensive. We had dinner, no drinks, and our bill was about $180 for a simple Caesar salad that wasn't much of anything, a calamari appetizer and 4 pasta dishes, one had chicken. That's a blistering price. The pastas are $30-ish dollars and the portions are larger than average but it really felt overpriced for what it was. The salad especially was like $18 and was leaves, very little dressing and a few croutons. We were the suckers here, it's not the same Rosebud it once was. There is better Italian food in the area and save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I attended with a group of 12 for a reservation at 8pm. We were promptly seated, but had to ask to see a wine list. Once we chose the bottles, the server disappeared and the appetizers showed up before we had any wine. We flagged the server to ask for an update on the wine to which she then notified us that one of the bottles we chose was out of stock. (When exactly was she going to tell us?) Then the server came to take our dinner order while promptly asking if we would be wanting any dessert because the kitchen would close at 9pm so we need to tell her now. (Surprise, we all said no thanks, we don't want to be a "bother".) If you know you have a party of 12 for an 8pm reservation and have no intention of giving them the same level of service because of "closing time" why wouldn't you tell us that at the time of booking? OR, doesn't a reservation at 8pm for 12 automatically tell the restaurant that the kitchen will need to continue to operate? Makes no sense. The food was ok. I had medallions which came sitting in a basic gravy sauce. Wouldn't get that again. The ambiance seemed fun but we got the heck out because our large table spend clearly wasn't welcomed. read more

(This is based on our take out during COVID-19. Found gift cards while cleaning so decided to order for my husband's birthday dinner at home. Food was still warm when we got it home. But always super hard ordering "pasta to go". Got the bruschetta Chopped salad Square Noodles Spaghetti n meatballs Chicken Marsala Tiramisu Chocolate mousse cake All for $110 Portions were big enough to share!! Biggest successes... My 9 year old son who only eats cheese pizza n chicken fingers with fries LOVED their tiramisu, chicken Marsala and their meatballs from the spaghetti n meatballs dish. The spaghetti noodles didn't travel well. We veganized some dishes and the order came perfect! Biggest disappointments were... As expected (with any noodle dish to go) the square noodles were all stuck together like cake but was tasty as far as veganized pasta goes. Chocolate mousse cake was a bit dry. AND I really hated that EVERYTHING was wrapped in plastic saran wrap. I know it's probably to prevent spillage and to keep the food warm but had I know that I would have requested it NOT to be wrapped. I'm not sure why Rosebud has received so many terrible reviews. This place is absolutely fantastic. I've been eating here since they were in the Highland Park location so many many years. The food has only gotten better with time. My favorite dish is the chicken Parmesan. Its massive can easily feed three people, I typically take it home and have leftovers for the next day. Their minestrone soup is also very delicious, lots of seasoning. for dessert I'll go for the tiramisu- delicious they use lots of mascarpone cheese so they're not skimping on ingredients. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience at this restaurant ever service is always spot on. Staff and management are on top of their game. The interior is warm and inviting modern as well as sleek. Bathrooms always clean. I enjoy their patio in the summer. Highly recommend you can't go wrong with this place. read more

We love Rosebud! Excellent pasta dishes that come in hearty portions! We've eaten here and taken the food to-go and both times it has been absolutely fantastic. Don't let the prices sway you, you get what you pay for in high quality pasta. My personal favorite is the orecchiette with sausage and broccolini. I love that the sauce is very light, pretty much just olive oil and garlic. Another favorite is the baked ziti with a rich red sauce and plenty of mozzarella. Friendly, fast service. Rosebud can get busy on the weekends. A smaller space than their old location but still plenty of seating. A great place for winter comfort food. read more

Placed an order for takeout. Evan took my order after I told him how many people I would be hosting 3 times. I ordered calamari, 1 penne with vodka sauce, 1 brick chicken, 1 vesuvio chicken and 2 salads. Upon arrival the order was wrong - 2 pastas, 1 chicken. Clearly not what was ordered. Evan told ME I was wrong and the order he placed was right. So much for the customer is always right. they delivered the vesuvio chicken and a fresh batch of tasteless calamari....$200 later the food was mediocre and the attitude of the staff was unacceptable. The food was good but not great. The meat sauce was more of a brown meat sauce. The chicken was good but everything was just average. The tables are little and don't provide enough space for 4 people comfortably. The waiter kept trying to take the bread and didn't come back when asked for more. I was there for a 20 people gathering recently and the food is absolutely divine. Everyone was savoring the different dishes with pleasure. It was the next best thing to being in Italy. The service was impeccable. The choice of wines offered was amazing because they were so well paired with the different dishes. I believe one of the chefs that came out was Davide and he was so personable and delightful to speak with. All of us guests had an awesome time. The deserts were so exquisite as well. Although th eggplant salad was very good, the service was lacking ( I sat at the bar ) I was ignored for awhile the when I was brought water he didn't offer a menu I waited about 20 min and had to request one. Great service . Stopped in for a lunch meeting. I had their fish salad and a side of sautéed spinach. The fish salad is large. It isn't served over a bed of lettuce so there is a lot of fish. Calamari and octopus but only one shrimp. Still, very flavorful and fresh. Served with chopped celery to give it some texture. It really works well. The spinach was done flawlessly. Great flavor, perfect amount of garlic. My friend had their Skirt Steak Caprese. It was done perfectly and the food was good. Large portions too. Will definitely be back. read more

Asked our waitress twice for more napkins- never got them so we had to find them ourselves. Never was asked if we wanted more drinks.. guess what - we did. She never came back to us. Bus boys delivered us our food. Food was delicious. Bus boys wrapped our to go boxes. Whole experience was over 2.5 hours which none of the 5 of us wanted to spend there. $250 bill. UNREAL. Also had a glass of Havey & Harriett, which was a very good dry wine, with a good story! We knew there would be very generous portions, so we shared eggplant parmesan and Escarole & beans. Went here for Xmas Eve. Was so excited to get my all-time favorite dish - chicken vesuvio ON THE BONE. They have always been known for this. Well waiter tells me "no, it's boneless". Menu said they offered both. Biggest disappointment ever. The dish is delivered and instead of long wedges of traditional vesuvio potatoes, I got HASH BROWNS!! Tiny dice- size pieces of potatoes! If there was a zero, that is what Steve as a manager would get. We got 3 entrees, dessert and an appetizer for takeout The shells and broccoli was horrible! Soggy, boiled broccoli, and not enough garlic, pasta gummy and stuck together--it was the only thing that was not great. When I called the next day to to return the dish, requesting a reimbursement and Steve said that it was too late. He said that they had closed out that night and I should've called before closing. (What self-respecting restaurant closes at 10 PM?) Seriously, Steve, hasn't anyone ever told you "The customer is always right?" You can't refund someone who just spent plenty of money at your restaurant **TEN bucks**?? As a result, you risk the possibility of bringing down your rating even further? Look at the other Rosebuds. They're historically magnificent. The worst one can say is they had too many delicious leftovers to take home!! You need to go back to the original Rosebud on Taylor St., founded by hard-working immigrants and watch them in action. You're tarnishing the reputation they worked so hard to build. Our first visit to Rosebud in a while was good, but not great. We enjoyed the grilled calamari for its spicy flavor and it was perfectly cooked. However, the pasta with clams in white sauce was overcooked and a little bland for ur taste. On the other hand, the lobster ravioli was flavorful and we thought it was the better dish of the two we ordered. The waiter was attentive and very helpful. However, spilled oil on the tables and floors was messy and not addressed, but it was a busy weekend night. For the money, I will probably find another place. read more

We had left over Ceasar salad, 3/4 left of my pasta bolognaise, half of my husband's chicken parmesan and more than half of a piece of carrot cake packed up to take home. The busser picked up the bag and through it away. We told our sever. He took it out of the GARBAGE and tried to give it to us telling us it was NOT in the garbage, the busser put it on a shelf at the server station. We ask for a manager. We tell the manager about all of our leftovers being thrown out. He says "well there is nothing we can do about it now, the kitchen is closed" I let him know our server tried to give it to us. He says " No he didn't, its in the garbage he wouldn't give it to you from the GARBAGE!" OH, but he sure DID. So he says we could come back the next day and he will remake what we had. Um, nope, sorry, can't come back the next day, we live over 20 miles away and our day was full. Asked for a gift card. Said he can't give us one, computer was off (no, it wasn't, servers were still checking out, guests were still in the restaurant) Gave him our name and address, he was gonna send one out "the next day" That was 2 weeks ago. No gift card. What horrible customer service! The food was above average, the service was below average (even before this happened) and $150 for two people . Shame on you Rosebud, your standards sure have wavered to below what you pretend to be. read more

I think I would have completely overlooked the restaurant not being prepared for our reservation if our Server would have been the least bit interested in anything other then wanting to go home. Right from the start you could tell she was annoyed she had another table and that this was a bigger group (7) celebrating a 40th birthday. Spilled wine and just walked away, forgotten food items, rolling eyes. Could have cared less we were celebrating anything even tho there were 40th balloons and presents. Walks over and says "anyone want a dessert menu?" By the time we got the check (which was put in front of the person who's birthday we were celebrating) we really didn't want to go back and forth over paying for a dessert when the manager said dessert was on him for the delay. Apparently they didn't talk. I didn't notice him for the rest of the night maybe he left. The Head Chef came out and was very courteous and everyone else seemed friendly. Overall, food was great. Everyone was happy with their entrees and glad they could offer a gluten free pasta option. The server probably needs a different profession or maybe we just caught her on a bad day.
