    Med Salad with Chicken

Rosebud of Deerfield - a really good restaurant for Italian. I used to live in the city and would past by Rosebud down in river north all the time. It was always packed with people and I was happy to see that Rosebud was in the burbs now as well. The space is wonderful - I like all the natural light and the string lights in the center of the restaurant as it was kind of a cloudy rainy day outside. Went here for a weekday lunch with some of my mates and I was really glad to have tried the Orecchiette pasta. I am always a fan of this pasta type because of the unique shape -its shaped like a ear (for full a full sensory experience). When the wait staff brought out the dishes all together - the server whispered "this is my favorite". Apparently I have chosen wisely. And boy did I! The Orecchiette (perfectly cooked al dente) super simple on the ingredients just a flavor bomb. Loved it Loved it. Absolutely awesome dish. My mates got a vodka pasta (said it was really good) and another got the Med salad w/ chicken. My impression is that the pasta is absolutely wonderful and done correctly. Top notch.

Let's be completely honest. It's a little unfair to review an Italian restaurant after having visited Italy in the fall. Nothing will compare. EVER. Huge portions and lots of energy on a Saturday night, exactly what you want. We were seated at the table closest to the door so we could probably hear better than those further inside the restaurant so if you are looking for a quiet, intimate place, this is not that place on a Saturday night. Our cocktails were good - a Manhattan and a Paper Plane. We ordered the steamed mussels - HUGE! This could easily have been my entree. The mussels were large and perfectly steamed. I ordered the ribbons with bolognese. It was another HUGE portion, but this is where a trip to Italy will ruin you. The pasta was inconsistent. There were several noodles stuck to each other with ends cooked al dente and then the centers not so much. The sauce was more salt than flavorful, not so salty that it was worth returning to the kitchen but definitely salty. My husband ordered a special - a seafood topped risotto. The risotto was OK but also another HUGE portion. If you're looking for generous portions, this is the place for you.

Came here for lunch and ended up ordering the salmon citrus salad. The portion for lunch was huge! It was pretty flavorful, i also especially enjoyed the walnuts or maybe it was pecans. It is a bit pricey, but it is meant to be a step above casual dining. It was very quiet at a weekday lunchtime so it was easy to have a conversation. The wait staff was attentive and you can easily be in and out off there in time for a lunch break.

Great meal. Seven of us had dinner at Rosebud. We had a reservation, so we got seated in a large round table quickly. Our server, Norma was very pleasant and helpful. We started with cocktails. The Old Fashioned and Cosmos were very good. We placed our dinner orders and kept busy visiting while the food was prepared. All seven meals came out at the same time. I had the Spaghetti and Meatballs. My wife (and 2 friends) had the Four Cheese Baked Ziti with Sausage. We both enjoyed our meal choices and have leftovers for lunch. It's been a longtime since we've were last at a Rosebud location. We will be back.

    Square Noodles Pasta

Rosebud has a friendly, classy, welcoming atmosphere. The staff was warm, smiling and attentive from greeting to dining. The fried calamari was fresh and crispy. I enjoyed the Tortellini Carbonara and its rich, thick, creamy cheese sauce. A great combination of saltiness from the prosciutto and sweetness from the peas. The portions were large and satisfying but a tad on the pricier side which reflects the quality of the cuisine. The square noodles were ok. I prefer a fattier protein like Italian Sausage with square noodles than the beef and veal mix. It wasn't as flavorful as I was hoping it to be. I was dining with 3 others but one of the menus was not the same as the rest. One of the outdated menus was still in circulation but was removed after noticing the different item(s).

Had our Thanksgiving Dinner here. It had an intimate ambiance with soft warm lights and tables fairly close to each other. I ordered their eggplant Parmesan special and wow, this is the biggest serving I've ever had of it; can easily feed 2-3 people depending on how hungry you are. Even though I was only able to eat half of it, I very much enjoyed it. I wasn't too happy about the side pasta; it was overcooked and lukewarm when it was served to me. I had to ask for our server to reheat it, which he promptly did, but the pasta was still not that good so I had to sadly pass on it. I also got the vesuvio potatoes as a side and it was great! Loved the sauce! My mom had the ribeye steak with a side of spinach and she had no issue and it was cooked to perfection. Both the steak and spinach could've used a little more salt, though. For dessert, we decided on the banana pudding and it wasn't very good. The bananas weren't caramelized enough so it was all soggy and pairing it with the Oreo crust was a little confusing. The pudding itself didn't really wow; it was like mushed bananas with whipped cream on top. Overall, there were pros and cons for the food, but our server was very attentive and polite. I wouldn't mind coming back, but I'll be a little more careful about the pasta selection.

Very average food and super loud. Could only talk to person sitting immediately next to me. Did appreciate that the menu was clearly marked with gluten free options and they accommodated needs due to food allergy. Crab cake starter was delicious. Brick chicken was juicy, hamburger was so so, gnocchi was not at all good, and pasta Alfredo was fine. For the price and just average food, not rushing back.

After seeing a Yelper's photos recently of some deep dish pizza, I expressed a wish for some Detroit-style pizza with lots of tomato sauce and cheese. Someone in my household thought it would be interesting to sample several pizzas in a pizza war, pitting pizza against pizza, slice vs slice in a palate popping duel to the stomach (not my idea, I would have been happy with one decent slice). Challenger #1 arrived at the home via delivery and was lukewarm. Rosebud's pizza was of a flatbread variety, crust was brown and very crunchy. It assumed a dual identity of half pepperoni and half mix of meats (sausage and very crunchy prosciutto? salami? There was not very much sauce. This did not meet my criteria but that is the fault of the organizer of this impromptu contest. I would say that this pizza would have been better consumed in the restaurant. However, I would order pastas or other entrees when eating at Rosebud.

For me, Rosebud was an alright spot for dinner. The best parts of going to this restaurant were the prompt service, large dining area (though it's really hard to hear one another), elegant decor, varied menu, and plenty of parking. It really has all the characteristics that make it an ideal spot to gather in Deerfield for a special event. The food is where the experience falls a bit short. Even if price isn't factored in, the food is a bit bland and the preparation is fairly plain on many items. I tried a wide variety of items on my visit and found the quality to be a bit inconsistent. For example, the Jalapeno Hashbrowns were a bit soft and felt underseasoned and barely spicy at all while the bruschetta had nice fresh tomatoes with a lightly brunchy bread and the basil flavor came out pretty well with the right amount of cheese to add a little saltiness. The fried calamari was quite standard (though the quality of the calamari was pretty good) which relied completely on the sauce to give it any flavor while the grilled calamari was bursting with flavor and had a very nice tender texture to it as well. The caesar salad was also quite plain for me, once again feeling a bit underseasoned despite several salty elements. The short beef ragu was done fairly well, with a large portion of meat and tender fusilloni pasta. I liked how the sweet peas and shaved parmigiano added a bit of sweetness and richness to the dish without feeling too heavy. For dessert I tried the Godiva Chocolate Mousse Cake which was enormous and tasty. The chocolate really came out very clear in 3 distinct layers of mousse, cake, and ganache. The berries served on the side were fresh and the creme fraiche really helped to bind all the elements together. This dessert was so impressive maybe I'll have a meal of only desserts here one day as the other options sounded amazing as well. Overall, there are many things to like about this restaurant in terms of the service, decor, and setup -- the inconsistent nature of the food makes it somewhat difficult to unconditionally recommend as the difference between the worst and best dishes is still quite high. But there were more things to like about the experience than there were to dislike, and on the dishes that were prepared well, the flavor was quite impressive.

It was such a thoughtful touch that made our celebration feel extra special. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful with such a romantic atmosphere. It was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. Our server, Nathan, was exceptional. He was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. The manager also stopped by to check on us, which really showed how much they care about their guests. I've dined at much more expensive restaurants before, and I've honestly never experienced this level of hospitality. The food was incredible 10/10! Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The portions were generous, and I couldn't even finish my meal because there was so much delicious food. Overall, this was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. From the outstanding service to the beautiful ambiance and amazing food, everything exceeded our expectations. Thank you to Nathan and the entire team for making our anniversary so memorable. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience!

We came for an evening with friends and decided to take advantage of the Sunday "per la famiglia…read more(serves four)" special when we saw the menu. What looked like a generous offer of comfort food at a reasonable price, at a lovely Italian restaurant, was actually a gimmick worthy of Ebenezer Scrooge. Dinner started with a tasty chopped salad that would have been a reasonable entree for one or enough to share as an appetizer for two. It was a large spoonful each for four. The four garlic knots that accompanied the salad were each about 2x2x2 inches, and when we asked for a refill of both the salad and bread we were told "that's all you get." The spaghetti came with 2 meatballs in a portion size that looked like it was enough for an entree for only 1 person. We waited a moment and when no more came realized we were screwed. Later, seeing our disappointment, the waiter was kind enough to secretly get 2 more meatballs out of the kitchen for us to pretend there were portions for each person at the table. Had they been serving Italian tapas, maybe we could have pretended it was a fair approach. The 16 inch cheese pizza was good but nothing special and the tiramisu provided 4 small pieces a little larger than the garlic knots mentioned earlier when cut into squares. I don't know what kind of "famiglia" Salvatore "Sal" Lo Cascio, the culinary director at Ballyhoo Hospitality, or Ryan O'Donnell, the CEO, have; but they probably don't eat very much. Perhaps they expect the famiglia of their guests to be a single parent with young children or a group of little persons. In short, the food tasted good, the dining room was lovely, the service was outstanding, and the portions and prices were a complete rip-off to the point that the place should be put out of business. With two iced teas, a glass of house wine, tax and a generous tip the bill came to well over $100 and this morning when checking the receipt for this review I found out that they charged us $8.00 for the extra meatballs which the waiter pretended were a secret, complimentary addition. Not very nice!
