I thought I finally found a place for a good gluten free bowl of pasta... Until I saw what they charged me! A bowl of spaghetti with a large meatball, (the dinner my husband ordered), costs $18.50. That is pretty high for pasta with marinara sauce, but hold on. That's nothing. I wanted the same dinner, only I have a gluten allergy, so asked for gf spaghetti. I don't eat meat, so substituted broccoli for the meatball. Guess what they charged me??? $28.50!!!! For a bowl of pasta with marinara sauce and some broccoli! I saw the check and flipped. When I was waiting for my husband to pull up with the car, I decided to talk to a manager to tell her how disappointed I was about the price of my gf pasta. She was defensive and told me it was too late to do anything about it anyway because we already paid the tab. Are you kidding me? My Family and I ALWAYS eat at rosebud, never had a problem. Decided to do to-go & as soon as I get home from a 45 MIN DRIVE to sit down and eat this is the first thing I SEE in my container. I recently went here for the first time since they moved to the new location-I'd been to the former one down the street several times years ago. Very good Americanized Italian food that to me, is on par with or maybe a little better than Maggiano's. Calamari and Caesar salad were both good-salad in particular was the right mix of dressing (not too creamy), shredded parmesan, and the few anchovies on top were just right. My one son ordered spaghetti with a meatball, and this meatball had to be what the kid's song is about-enormous-probably a pound. Other dishes ordered were Chicken Parmesan-my older son's favorite-which was good, and Fettuccine Alfredo. My meal was their baked ziti, which is the best of its kind around. TERRIBLE experience. Went in for dinner and was extremely disappointed. Ordered fried calamari, Bruschetta, Gnocchi bolognese, cheese Ravioli, fettuccine Alfredo. The fried calamari came fried & drenched in a sauce, so obviously, no longer crispy. The bruschetta was mediocre, bread with absolutely giant chunks of tomatoes with little flavor, did not taste anything like real bruschetta. The gnocchi was the worst out of everything. The gnocchi was so poorly made it's shocking they even served it to me. The dough stuck to my teeth, I took two bites before ultimately giving up. The most shocking part of this dinner was the managers, (John) behavior. While expressing our dissatisfaction with the food the manager began to raise his voice claiming he would not be able to comp us for the entire dinner (which we never asked for in the first place) and at a point even stepping closer to the person from our party speaking to him. Rosebud? More like Rosedud! We went to Rosebud once before years ago at the old location and thought we'd go back, remembering we had a pleasant experience the last time. We walked in and when the hostess finally started to pay attention to the people standing at the hostess stand, she began to greet the people behind us even though we walked in first. Nobody came to our table to greet us after we were seated. We sat there for15 minutes and decided to flag down a server to ask for our waiter. Finally placed our order, 3 filet medallions with different crusts, horseradish, Parmesan, and Gorgonzola with broccolini on the side. The medellions were small but cooked perfect but topped with a "pork sausage patty sized" crust with a gravy that kinda killed the meal. The broccolini was also was hard as a rock. read more

This is the newer Rosebud in Naperville, the old one burned, it appears to have a slightly different and more modern concept than the old Rosebud. They still have many of the old "traditional" italian dishes but they also have some new more contemporary menu items as well. We had reservations the place was packed and we could not even get close to the bar for a drink, to add insult to injury our table was not ready for over 30 minutes after our reservation time and we even arrived to check in early so we were just standing there for about 40 minutes. As for the meal, it was excelent Our waitress was great, friendly and on the ball even though she was swamped with tables. Summary, great food, good service, comfortable dining room but the reservation delay and not having access to the bar while we waited was a bit of a let down. They need to address this problem or have a cocktail waitress running drinks to waiting guests that can not get up to the tiny bar, they would see an instant spike in weekend revenue if they took this approach, not sure why management has not thought of this??? I was excited to go out to dinner with Covid restrictions being lessened. We made reservations for 3 people for 7pm and made certain they had gluten free options. We were seated outside, and after 20 minutes were finally given water, 10 minutes later for drink order and another 20 minutes to order appetizers and dinner. Appetizers came and the sausage and peppers were great, for the price the caprese salad was a joke. After another 20 minutes the waitress comes back to tell us they are out of gluten free options. I have never been so disappointed-if we were told this at the beginning, we could have gone to another restaurant nearby-as it was 2 people shared a less than adequate amount of undercooked gluten free penne, and the 3rd person had cold ravioli. My husband and I came back to one of our favorite restaurants for a Valentine's date. The service was fast and attentive. The eggplant stack salad is to die for. I'm drooling just thinking about it. My husband had the special lobster ravioli with shrimp. The ravioli was packed with lobster and shaped like hearts for the occasion. A super cute touch! The minestrone soup is excellent also. I had a pretty good experience here on a Saturday at lunch, bordering on great. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside on the patio to watch the people of Naperville as we enjoyed some delicious food. The waiter we had was very friendly and helpful in recommending drinks and dishes and even provided us with some great inside information. I know know where 8 finger cavatelli got its name... I felt like the service may have been a tad slow, but I didn't overly mind and everything I asked for I did receive. I started out my meal with a super refreshing cocktail called the cucumber martini. I don't remember what in it gave it this pink color - but it was super refreshing. For lunch, I had the 8 finger cavatelli. It was a great sized portion and left me with a late night snack later that night (as I was too stuffed for a proper dinner). And if all that wasn't enough, we topped it off with a desert that I can't remember the name of - but essentially it was fried pieces of dough rolled in cinnamon and sugar and topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce. We really enjoy Rosebuds - and this location was the best of them all. Nick, our server, was exceptional. He was friendly and made the evening a great dining experience. My whitefish was prepared el fresco exactly as I requested. My partner had an absolutely huge portion of veal parmigiana - slightly spicy. Perfect. We sat outside on the patio - lovely breeze. If you want tasty and filling pasta, Rosebud is a good option. The portion sizes are HUGE. It was probably supposed to be family style but we all ordered our own dishes, oops! I had the Grandma's gravy and it was so rich and filling, super delicious. The meat was so tender and flavorful and I ended up making whipped ricotta at home because it was so yummy on the dish. The lasagna was enough for like 4 people. The steak was ginormous. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, so no complaints there. Living in Naperville, we know about the staple Italian restaurant on the corner of downtown Naperville, but it wasn't until we were gifted a gift card that we made a date night of it. We were SUPREMELY underwhelmed. Yes, we went on a Saturday at prime dinner time, but everything was so bustled and rushed...except for the service. We felt very much "in the way" because of how the tables were crammed together and how the waitstaff was rushing from the kitchen to their various tables. We were seated right by the kitchen, which is open, so it was all very noisy and boisterous. We felt like we had to suck it in close to our table for fear of tripping a waiter or getting a plate of food dropped down our backs. Before we excused ourselves to leave at the conclusion of our meal, I had to ask my husband, "Am I clear to scoot my chair back, or am I going to run into someone?" The atmosphere was very noisy and not at all romantic. It took our waiter a good 10 minutes to even acknowledge we were there. I will say, the busboys were ON it! Quick to always refill waters, bring bread refills, or clear dishes. They were the saving grace to this meal. The food was ok, but extremely overpriced. You're definitely paying for "Ritzy Italian in Naperville" with even a basic cheese pizza costing $17 (with no other toppings). The bruschetta we ordered was rather blah with flimsy, soggy bread instead of a crisp crostini. We split a main entree that was quite tasty, but overly rich and very expensive at $23 for some tortellini. At least we took home some leftovers to get two meals out of it. Overall, we're thrilled we had a gift card as we would not have spent our own money on this experience. We will not be back. read more

We ate inside for lunch and all of staff was COVID friendly. I wanted "Grandma's Gravy", which I've had in the past, but 3-4 years ago. The server said I could get it for lunch, although it was not on the lunch menu. When it arrived, it looked different than what I remembered. I tasted it and it was ok, but not what drew me back to Rosebud. About half way through our meal, my wife said it should have been served over wide noodles, not wide mostaccioli. My wife linguine with clams or mussels. The waiter offered to give her both since she couldn't choice. Her meal came and it was very good. Both of our chicken were very dry but the Chicken Parmesan was so over cooked that it was inedible. The pasta side that we received was very dry and hard. Even the bread we received was rock hard. The only good thing about this place is that they had the order ready on time and the food was well packaged. He is incredible at his job and knows how to treat all guest with incredible service. From the moment we walked in the door we new Rosebud Naperville was going to be our new spot! Brenda, the hostess, is really the mostest when it comes to knowing her job, and doing it perfectly. Her warm smile and knowledge of the restaurant makes you feel at home the minute you walk in the door, but the real shinning star, is the manger, Carlo who is nothing short of spectacular. He was attentive but not over barring and made sure anything we needed was there without hesitation. You can tell he cares for all his guest and employees too! We look forward to being greeted by him with a grand laugh and positive attitude. Really noisy, like a lot of restaurants these days. It's impossible to carry on a normal conversation in restaurants now. Between the open kitchens and the terrible acoustics, good luck trying not to yell your entire conversation. Like a lot of nice restaurants, the quality has really gone downhill. The chicken vesuvio, which in the past I have loved, was mediocre at best. Some of the potatoes had a terrible re-heated leftovers texture. I know restaurants are struggling, but I jut can't bring myself to plunk down $100 plus for two people when the food is so blah. The veal chop was more than outstanding, which I have the most professional waiter to thank for suggesting this special. If Rosebud is a 5 star, which it most certainly is, Uriel, our server, is a 10 star. Excellent knowledge of menu with even better recommendations. Haven't been to Rosebud in several years and just wanted to give it a try. It was a so-so experience. The food was excellent, the problem is one of the experience, I call it "the bum rush", here's what I mean. From the moment you enter the front door you experience the rush to get you back out the door. The tables are crowded together a bit too much so that you feel the squeeze, you can barely get to or from a table without slightly bumping into other patrons. Servers are squeezing around you all the time. A water boy is pouring glasses of water while you are trying to sit down, you have to stand there for him to finish before you can sit down. The waitress wants to know your drink order before you pick up the menu. You sit to chat with your party for a few minutes, the drinks come, you haven't picked up the menu yet, and the waitress comes back for your order, tells you she'll come back, and appears every 3 minutes until you place the order. Brings the bread right away, ask for butter and it's there immediately, ask for anything and it's there immediately: you just can't slow down their train. Busboy picking up things from the table while you are still eating. For a somewhat expensive restaurant in a very nice location it was the bum rush. Not planning to go there again anytime soon. You'd be much better served at Biaggi's or Maggiano's, a little out of the way, but you will enjoy your evening. read more

Our meal was okay. Waiter was excellent. Problem was when we went to pay the bill, our party of 6 with 3 checks found an 18% "service" charge on each check. One couple had already had their card run and left after unknowingly adding 20% on top of that. I questioned the manager about a service charge for a table of 6. He, very dispassionately, told me that this was very typical and he did not understand why I was questioning it. What if we recieved very poor service? Scratched out the 20% I was going to leave the waiter from the check and left. So he was out 2%. Not going back, or if forced, I would have to leave 2 friends at home. ****This review is a non-food review**** We were in a car accident today at the intersection where Rosebuds is located. Two staff members came out to check on us, and the children who were in our car. They offered lemonade, water, crayons, coloring paper, and were more than willing to assist in any way. We were able to use their outdoor seating as we waited for police to arrive on scene. This act of kindness, alone, warrants 5 stars.
