Paying $16 for spaghetti and meatballs isn't usually something I'm a fan of doing at any time. When I saw the prices here for pasta I considered leaving and heading over to one of the cheaper Italian restaurants or pizza places in the area but decided that we'd give Rosebuds a try. I'm glad we did. Now look, I'm not saying that I'm going to go here every week and it's my new favorite place ever. No. The prices are a bit too rich for my blood for pasta, one of the cheapest things on the planet. But. The food was delicious. The meatballs were large, moist, and seasoned perfectly. The sauce tasted fresh, with small chunks of tomatoes that burst with flavor when I bit into them. The pasta was obviously high quality. My wife ordered a pizza and while it wasn't a Chicago-style deep dish delight, it was still seasoned well and obviously used high quality ingredients. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. We couldn't have asked for anything more from him. If you're looking for a treat night out, a nice date, or cost simply isn't an issue for you (you lucky dog), then I highly recommend going here. You won't regret it. read more

From all the pizzas in Naperville's neighborhood, I think that Rosebud has the best, specially the one with Prosciutto, that I couldn't find in the online menu. I usually don't like so much pasta with red sauce, but Rigattoni a la vodka, was amazing. I like to ask for fried calamari and grill calamari both are fine and Portions in general are ok. The only issue is that the service is quite slow so I prefer to call and take to go. read more

This was a terrible disappointment. Everything was good except the entrees and the horrendous seating. We were so cramped that I bumped into the people seated next to us when I got up to go to the washroom. Tables were only about 30 inches apart. What with people seated at tables it was a maze to get to the bathroom. I use a cane making it even more harder, had to walk sideways to get there. The food was atrocious. This place is soo much better since they moved from, well, the place that burned down. We (spouse and I) have taken to sitting at the bar for our dinner or lunch. We have had excellent service that way. Food has always been good but my fave (which was suggested by the bartender) was Shrimp with Arugula salad. Perfectly cooked shrimp and perfectly dressed salad. Huge pile of salad which I could not finish but wanted to. Bitter, salty, sour and a je ne sais quoi ( a richness or fleshiness when I bit down). Yum. Stuck in my head forever. Food: The food was the highlight of our trip. My baked cavatelli was standard Italian food, but my wife's chicken marsala was the best we've ever had. That's saying a lot considering that this is all my wife orders at any Italian restaurant we visit. Atmosphere: It can get a bit loud (conversation noise, not music), so I wouldn't quite classify it as romantic, but it is still a step above "casual" dining. The music also tends to be a bit unorthodox (I heard Phish at one point), but the music isn't too loud so it's not something that would distract you. Price: We paid $65 for two meals, two glasses of wine, and one dessert. I would expect a slightly better atmosphere for the price, but not too bad in general for what you're getting. Staff: We had no problems with the staff, and loved our waiter (Chris). Conclusion: If the chicken marsala wasn't so outstanding, Rosebud might have earned only three stars, but good food is the most important quality in a restaurant. Give this one a try. read more

We came in for a weekday lunch. The place was only maybe 20% filled, but it was kind of loud already - I can't imagine what this place might be like when filled (thinking Hugo's Frog Bar, by the pianist!). Maybe it's the layout of the open (and nice) dining room, or the lower ceilings - not sure. I also just perused some other reviews - and yes, it's the first thing you notice. Anyway, wife had mussels with linguine ($14.75, with decent amount of mussels), and son and I had their 12 oz burgers cooked medium. They were $9.50 and $1 more for cheese. Mine had grilled onions, and son had his with provolone. Burgers were pretty good and filling, but pretzel bun was a bit burnt on son's. The lettuce on burgers was nicely shredded. We also had the baked clam appetizer - 6 tiny clams for $9.50 - not the best value, at least this time, due to tiny size of the clams. The crostini was burnt also! Overall, nice place to try, with the airy, sunny dining room during daytime, but it was on the pricey side for what we got. No hurry back for us, especially if it looks crowded. read more

We went here for my nephew's college graduation dinner (19 of us). Parking is difficult on a Saturday night (7 pm). It is in a small strip mall with a Five Guys and Jamba juice, I think. Bottom-line, the lot was hilarious - trying to maneuver an extra long Ford Expedition in it. There is a lot across the street but also very busy in downtown Naperville on a Saturday evening. They sat us at a large (makeshift) table next to the window at the front of the restaurant, which by the way is on the small side, and it worked but it was tight. The noise level in this restaurant was the challenge and not appreciated. It was just super busy with lots of large parties. A few got a headache during the long meal (server and busboys great--it was just really busy, so with appys, meals, and dessert, it was 2.5 hrs). A couple of us had a noise hangover the next morning. The above issues dropped the rating to a 3. With a good server, and busboys, the food was excellent (5 rating). The calamari (fried not the grilled one-we had that too, just wasn't as good) and the seafood salad (lots of seafood, well prepared, light dressing on greens) were the absolute rage during the appetizer round. The mains were awesome too. The kids loved their various pastas and pizzas. The adults enjoyed the homemade gnocchi, eggplant salad, and chicken vesuvio. It had been a really long time since I had been to Rosebud (several years), but I visited again a few nights ago and was glad I did! The pastas and appetizers are all quite good from what I was able to sample in our large party of guests. I liked my Rigatoni alla Vodka best of all! The desserts were just OK. They weren't really worth ordering and I probably would pass on them next time, but everything else was excellent (even the bread)! The prices are a bit higher than comparable restaurants, but nothing was totally unreasonable. The service we had was quite good. The server kept up with me on refills, and I'll admit I'm not an easy one to keep up with. Overall, it was a pleasant experience that I shared with my family. Came here with my mom and sister for my birthday lunch and the older waiter completely ignored us the whole time and gave all his attention to the table next to us (4 businessmen who were spending more money) we asked for 2 boxes (one for me and the other for my mom) we didn't notice that he had taken her plate until it was too late. Why would we ask for 2 boxes for only one plate? When we complained he said "no need to get upset, I'm doing my best" But in reality he was putting no effort in and was not friendly at all. You expect the best service when you go to a nice restaurant and we did not get that at all. Will not be returning. read more

We came to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary and everything was perfect. Since we were celebrating, we took advantage of the valet parking for $7. There is however a garage right across the street that would have worked. Our reservations were for 5:30pm and we had no problems being seated. Our waitress was very friendly and a food server immediately brought us some tasty warm bread. We ordered our drinks and a calamari appetizer. Before I could decide on my entree the calamari was at our table. With a new baby at home I was happy the night was moving fast. My husband had the lobster & risotto special. I ordered the linguini with mussels in white wine. All the seafood was cooked perfectly! From the calamari to our entrees, everything was GREAT!! We will definitely be back, Rosebud gave us the perfect hour and a half dinner. We even had enough leftovers to have lunch the next day. read more

I wanted to like this restaurant, I really did, but I felt I was in a movie set about GLUTONY.... I've been lucky to travel extensively and experience many different styles of cuisines around the world from a local dive bar burger to luxury Michelin Star French restaurant...but never have I experienced so much food served in my life. Rosebud..."What warrants a portion size of food today?"...I don't know after my dining experience at Rosebud last night. My three companions all failed to eat any more than a quarter of what was ordered. My son can eat most anything, but he failed to make a dent...his girlfriend couldn't even get past 4 mouthfuls of her pasta dish. The table to our right, a young 30's couple shared a bowl of pasta that truly could have served 10 people. I'm not complaining about the quality of food, or service, but really do we need a plate that can serve 4 or six people? Don't get this wrong in my review, their menu prices are not higher or lower than most local restaurants in the burbs..I'm not moaning or winging about what I was charged. But should an order of Pork Chop Calabrese be on a plate 18" long and stacked 5" high...the food portions so large everyone at the table said ..." what the #&@$!..." Everywhere around the restaurant people were leaving after their meals with their doggy bags the size of a basketball. A suited manager came to our table, politely asking "how is your meal" .....my response was, "tastes great, but way way too much food....why such large portions?"....maybe he failed to hear me, he smiled and said thank you and walked away.....As if he was programmed to ask, but not really care or be empowered to do or say anything. Rosebud Naperville, if your reading this....why are your portions so large? Why send a manager around asking ...how was your meal, yet fail to respond? Maybe I am in the minority here, but would you still pack locals in with more reasonable sized portions?, I think you might, your food is good, the staff friendly and attentive and ambience pleasant and pleasing. I doubt I'll return in the future unless it's with my cardiologist by my side and all the lights on Washington set to green for a fast drive to Edward Hospital. Just food for thought. read more

Been to Rosebud 5 times and I am very pleased. The food is always cooked right, the prices might be a bit higher than other Italian restaurants in the area but the food is better so it is justified, you get what you pay for. We make a lot of Italian food at home so we don't go to Italian restaurants often but if we do it will always be Rosebud. read more

My wife and I went here for our anniversary. We didn't really to know what to expect, but we were disappointed at first with the noise level and the cheaper place settings (the red and white plaid plastic table cloths remind me of old Pizza Huts). However, our service and food were fantastic. We had stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer and they were awesome. For dinner, I had chicken Parmesan and my wife had a cheese ravioli. Both meals were excellent. I do feel like the place has some identity issues since I can't tell if it wants to be a nicer place to eat or more casual. I saw other customers dressed in everything from suits to clothes like they just finished cleaning the garage. I will just add, no one is exaggerating the noise levels. I haven't been to Rosebud in a while and I have to say I wasn't too impressed. My daughter and I went for dinner and didn't have a reservation, but it was early and had no problem with being seated. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, just some pasta. Service was good. The food was pretty disappointing. Her penne with vodka sauce was average at best and my spaghetti and meatballs were pretty bad. Large portion, but beyond that not much good to say. Caveat zone: This review is based solely on Monday nights, in the past, we've made a tradition of gorging ourselves on all you can eat spaghetti and meatballs. It's basically the best $10 you can spend on a Monday, as the amount of food you get is simply ridiculous. If you manage to power through your first massive bowl of spaghetti (and two giant meatballs) they'll just keep it coming. Also, unlike a lot of all you can eat deals, they're totally down with you finishing your first bowl, getting a refill, and just taking that all home. It's GOOD spaghetti too, with sauce that you can tell they make from scratch as each week there's mild flavor variations and the same can be said for the meatballs. Seriously, check it out if you're looking for a place to eat in downtown Naperville on a Monday night. It's the best deal in town. read more

I have to rate this restaurant with five stars because they make the best fish (seafood) salad I have ever tasted anywhere in the world. My wife and I travel extensively and I have never experienced a fish salad with so much quality seafood and such a variety with a wonderful tangy dressing. The plate wasn't large but it is piled high with fresh seafood. I was full and sated when I left the table. My wife and I have been regulars for some time now. We were excited to return to the new location Valentine's Day weekend. We decided to go for lunch on Saturday and we could not have been happier with our experience. The interior is fresh and bright with a large open space featuring a horseshoe bar, large windows and a cute family style table in the back able to seat 14. We also found out that a new Antipasto Bar featuring freshly sliced Italian Meats, Cheeses and Extras is opening soon. I believe it is a can't missed on a nice spring afternoon with a glass of Chardonnay. Regarding the service, the returning servers (10 out of 11) was a plus. Always friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu, made sure we were taken care of during our visit. The food was great. I am particular to the Chicken Parmesan ($19) and my wife selected the Rigatoni alla Vodka ($14). Both meals were excellent and left overs for lunch the next day was a bonus. We saved room for dessert and decided on the Bomboloni (Italian Donuts) that were accompanied with three sauces, chocolate, vanilla and my favorite raspberry. We happen to stop in at the Rosebud in Naperville recently. We had no idea what type of restaurant it was until we went in. I have to say it was the most delicious Italian meal I have ever had. We ordered the special. The quality of food is amazing. Our compliments to their chef! The wait staff are phenomenal. Don't get me started on the desserts. We had the Godiva chocolate mousse cake. One piece of the cake was plenty for two of us. It was huge. Talk about a decadent dessert. We hadn't had a chance to celebrate our anniversary. When we told our waitress how happy we were we stopped in as this was now our anniversary meal as it was the best meal we have ever had. She surprised us with a $10 coupon for our anniversary. Went on a Thursday night with a group for work. It was the first time I had been to the new location since the old one burned down. Its a nice space right in the heart of downtown Nashville. If you have never been Rosebud its an old school red sauce kind of Italian Restaurant. They have all the classic Italian American dishes you expect to find Parm's, Classic Pastas, Vesuvio. all done well. We started with calamari both Grilled and Fried...stick with the fried it was crisp and tender more than I can say for the well overcooked grilled version. My love of all sorts of Braised meats led me to the excellent Mama's Gravy, Braised Pork and beef with tomato and Rigatoni Giganti with dollops of Ricotta....no complains here everything I love in a bowl. Don't miss dessert the Cannoli and the Italian Doughnuts were top notch. read more

The decor and room layout, for starters, give off a friendly, family vibe with a little touch of class. The menu is amazing. What's your pleasure? They're sure to serve it here. I am particularly smitten with their square noodles with tomato sauce -- my God that tomato sauce! And also with their pizzas, which are brick oven hot and delicious. Their wine selection is great, even featuring my favorite Malbec. The desserts are to die for. Don't miss out on one of their daily specials. Having been a fan of Rosebud's Chicago location, it was thrilling to visit its Naperville location close to home. The view couldn't be more perfect: it directly overlooks the river and catches a beautiful breeze in the summertime. The food was all right, tried a chef's special of fried rice balls, which certainly left an impression! Very unique and fun. Gotta love a chef who experiments a little! Wow - I can't believe all of the bad reviews! While my meal here wasn't fantastic, it was far from terrible. The Caesar salad is fantastic. Order it. The bread was ok - would be nice if I was good crusty warm Italian bread. The olive oil and cheese on it was awesome. Entrees were good and the portions were ver generous. I'm not a big fan of the main dining room. It's not cozy and romantic - it's large and noisy with a lot of tables packed in with uncomfortable chairs. Service was good - we had a really nice waitress and she was there to meet our needs - no problems there. In order for this place to last, it sounds like they have to make some improvements. This area is saturated with restaurants and people will go elsewhere if they don't make some changes. read more

We had my brother's 18th birthday lunch party here and overall it was a positive experience. We had reservations for around 15 people at 2:30. They had a nicely-located table set up for us ready for our large group. We began with some shared appetizers that included bruschetta, a mixed green & fruit salad that was on special, as well as the usual bread and oil. We thought the appetizers were all on point, the salad was delicious, some of our group thought it needed more dressing but I disagree. The bruschetta was above average, without a doubt. Everyone ordered their own entrees. I personally got the Grandma's Gravy, which was like braised beef over rigatoni with sauce and cheese. I was pleasantly surprised how flavorful and tasty this dish was; the pasta was exactly al dente and the meat cooked to the right temperature. I am always torn whether to order a pasta or a meat dish at Italian restaurants and this was certainly the best of both worlds. I heard good feedback from the fettuccini alfredo, linguine & clams, as well as the skirt steak, and the chicken vesuvio. The service was good, we had two servers who kept up with my family's rigorous and incessant demands quite well. Our only gripe would be that they didn't want to give us more cheese for some reason, the server just kept going around with the jar and spoon asking people individually. No big deal. The prices seem a little bit higher than similar Italian restaurants. I personally think many of those other places can easily stack up with this Rosebud location. Tonight was the dealbreaker for Rosebud. Oh Rosebud, whatever happened to your great service! We ordered takeout November 21st and when we arrived 45 minutes later, the clueless hostess told us they threw the order out. Why? No explanation and no recompense, they expected us to wait another 45 minutes for our order?! Seriously? Goodbye Rosebud, we'll miss you :-( Had you made good on wasting our time I wouldn't have had to review you so badly, but you richly deserve this! The service and food has been consistently good each time I come here. They have a large wine and cocktail list. I recommend trying the lobster stuffed salmon on the chef's specials menu. It's a cute little place in downtown Naperville near the riverwalk. They went completely paperless with their menu so you have to scan their QR code to see the menu, which is definitely more sanitary at this time. Was going to dine outside but since we were the only ones inside, we decided to evade the heat. They have appetizers of pieces of bread and oil/cheese. The bread was too dry. My friend got the cheese ravioli, which was way too watered down and didn't have enough ravioli. The baked cavatelli was pretty good. Everything on the menu is pretty pricey, and the exact same items on the menu are even more expensive at dinner time, so i'm glad we went for lunch instead. Staff was friendly. read more

I don't know what the hell this restaurant is thinking, the two dishes we ordered were served in the same size plates as start up turkey plates people use to serve the whole turkey on Thanksgiving. The portion of both plates are for about 4 people and they just look ridiculous! The veal dish, the whole piece of thick tough veal is covered by cheap salty sauce. It is nothing different than those from the cheap cheap chain restaurant, again everything is super salty and not even edible for me. I wanted to leave the restaurant immediately after first bite. My husband and I went for our anniversary dinner and the food was fantastic. The bread was soft in the middle and crusty on the outside - perfect. We had bruschetta as an appetizer so a little bread overload. I had the lamb chops and he had the pork chops. Lamb was cooked perfectly and the sauce was surely made from ambrosia it was that good. So of course I had to dip some of the remaining bread in it. Topped the whole meal off by splitting a tiramisu which was very tasty! We also got a bottle of wine and for the amount of food we had, the price was very reasonable. Wait staff and management were very gracious and helpful.
