Jack is the worst person I have ever come across. He's inappropriate and rude. He yells over the most ridiculous things. He yells at the customers, the Doctor and the employees. He has physical outbursts. I once overheard him yelling at an employee over the phone in the lobby while she kept a brave face. He seems to have no idea that every bad review and lost client is because of him. He must hate himself and his life. I pray that Dr Sheahan leaves him to save herself. If he's that mean verbally I don't even want to know what goes on behind closed doors. read more

Dr. Sheehan is wonderful, but her husband and front office manager, Jack, is horrible. There have been many run-ins with him over the years. One in particular where he slammed his hand into the door while yelling at his wife because he was upset. Most recently, he charged us for a late cancellation fee for an appointment my wife called to 4 days ahead of time to cancel. The appointment was scheduled for Monday afternoon and my wife left a message on Thursday morning. They don't answer their phones or return calls, so I took my lunch hour on Monday to make sure they got our request for cancellation. Jack of course was his unfriendly self and said we should have emailed. Note, it would be nice to let your patients know if you changed your policy... but that's beside the point. He said that the appointment was cancelled and we considered it done. We show up to the rescheduled visit to learn we owe $200 in failure to cancel fees! He never once mentioned fees when I was in the office. His only request was to email. It's unfortunate because Dr. Sheehan is amazing. She is truly a kind and compassionate doctor that is rare in the industry, but I don't feel comfortable having my wife enter a practice where a man with abusive tendencies can do and say as he pleases. read more

They weren't taking new pet patients. I was disappointed as I had an emergency with our Yorkie.

Recently my Yorkie suddenly could not walk. His back legs didn't seem to work and we didn't know what had happened to him. We called our normal vet and they said they were booked up. Rosedale Vet said we could bring him in. I was so grateful. Dr. Sheahan was so kind and gave him a very thorough exam including getting on the floor with him. We got a complete blood count ordered and it didn't appear permanent as he walked some. He is 13 years old and it was a scary thing for our family. I appreciate how kind the doctor in treating our furry baby. It was expensive but she took him right in and my own vet didn't. We are changing to Dr. Sheahan as our vet. She is working on getting him a diet that will help his issues. I can recommended Rosedale Vet hospital and Dr. sheahan. read more

I love Rosedale vet Dr. Sheahan and her husband run this vet hospital and she is the one and only board certified vet and surgical vet in Bakersfield. They treat my 2 boys (Gus and Bodie, both male Shorkies) very well and have always been honest and informative about what they really need. They are a lil pricey but it's worth it for the quality of care they give. They also take the time and explain or discuss things and show how interested they are in getting to know you and your pets. Dr. Sheahan is a wonderful Vet and was a pleasure to deal with. The problem and two stars is for her receptionist/husband Jack in front! If you read other reviews, most negative comments are about him. We encountered just the same! They don't take new patients unless referred. We were referred by a family member and was seen for our new Pugapoo pup Buttercup for her immunization series. After the first appointment Jack said we need to see you 2-3 weeks for the next shot. Said nothing about preferring week 2 over week three. Came back three weeks later, had a great appointment. Jack said we need to see you in another 2-3 weeks. We chose a date three weeks away and he advised we do 2 weeks incase we need to cancel, we'll have another week for wiggle room to reschedule and keep her on track. So we did as he advised and made it for two weeks away, unfortunately 2 days before we had the appointment, we had a death in the family and had to cancel... We tried to get through for another appointment several times but no return call. About six days go by and my phone rings. By the time I found my phone it stopped ringing. I called back immediately and left a message. Tried a couple more times right after incase he was on the other line. I get a email moments later saying this: "Hello, I tried to contact you and it went to VM. Your VM hung up on me before I could leave a message. I saw that you called in multiple times in a row after that but we were dealing with multiple emergencies (we are a Specialty Hospital) and not able to take your call." Then went on to tell us that because the first time we were seen, we chose to come back in three weeks instead of two, so there is no wiggle room and are unable to make us a appointment and booked for about 4 weeks, which would obviously take Buttercup off track! So he recommended we see another Vet and they would send over her files, or we can sit on a waiting list! First of all, he never said anything about wiggle room and preferred 2 weeks until after our last appointment and said, that way you have time to reschedule. Well, he didn't say cancel a appointment and we'll recommend you see someone else! Second, he was really quick to point out they don't have time for my calls because "they are a specialty hospital" If you had multiple emergencies going on, then why call me??? He admitted he had time to ignore my call, take note how many times I tried to call back and decide to email me how busy and important their work is, when he could have easily picked up the phone! So busy with multiple emergencies that he watched how many times I called and then sat and wrote a email...? When I missed the call, I though he was calling me back finally to make a appointment but now I'm convinced he was calling to tell me we were not going to be seen, unless we were willing to be put to the rear because of one canceled appointment... Apparently the emergency visits are where their bread and butter is! Like I said, Dr. Sheahan was wonderful, if you can get past her guard dog Jack. It's obviously his job to keep out the pesky nonsense, like canceled appointments... We had a whole plan for our new puppy with her and it was her first Pugapoo puppy, she seemed excited to see her grow! Too bad we were flushed out because of one canceled appointment, with notice! Now we have to take her somewhere else on a even stricter timeline, since her series is already behind because they won't see us! Too bad they don't have a receptionist that knows how to be kind and professional. Instead it's her husband flexing the only powers he has, the gate keeper to her! SHAME! Read the other reviews and you will notice a pattern of this type of complaint. We even recommended another client... Seeing that the only way they see new clients is by referrals, they should treat us better up front, since we're all connected... Good Luck! read more

This is definitely the best place in Bakersfield to take your animals. Dr. Sheehan loves animals and it shows. She takes her time to explain everything in detail to you and keeps you up-to-date if your animal needs surgery. She's kind, compassionate, intelligent, and truly cares. Recently COVID has put a lot of extra steps in their routine and they've been SUPER busy. I took my pooch to Dr. Sheahan for his annual vet visit and shots. I thought that poochy-pooh was going to get a quick exam, shots, and we would be sent on our way in a few minutes. Surprising, Dr. Sheahan was VERY thorough during the exam. We talked about pup-pup's feeding schedule, what type of food he was eating, and she even talked about his behavioral patterns. It wasn't a quick once over exam, Dr. Sheahan did a lot of poking and proding to check for respiratory, gastrointestinal, and physical issues that the blunder dog could have. She acted as a counselor on how to bring out his good behavior and end bad habits. She also told me in a kind way to quit coddling and spoiling the pooch (bf does that - not me). She was also very professional in handling my crazy pup during the exam. He was pretty grumpy after he was poked with the thermometer and acted like a brat during the exam. Dr. Sheahan did a good job calming him down since I was really nervous for my poor pup. Overall, I was impressed by the thorough, professional, and unrushed manner in which Dr. Sheahan conducted business. They're a bit on the pricey side - it cost me $100 for an exam and shots (excluding rabies) but, I think it's well worth it. Side note - the pooch, poochy-pooh, pup-pup, and blunder dog HATES all his nicknames. read more

The man up front by the name of Jack Sheehan, unfortunately I think is her husband, isn't a very good person. Which is extremely sad because I think Dr. Heidi Sheehan is probably the smartest and dedicated vet in town. I'm a business owner here in Kern County and I have NEVER overheard anyone talk the way that he does to another human the way he did, especially towards an employee or wife. I was appalled. And on top of that their prices are extremely high. Don't ever buy prescription food there it's double the price than other places/vets sell it for! I understand a price increase for profit, but nearly double that's not even right. It's a real shame on small/local businesses that he's running the show. read more

We've been taking our pets to different veterinary clinics in Bakersfield all my life, never finding a good one. Finally, my aunt and uncle recommended they're veterinary clinic that they use for their pets. We went and knew (after we left) that this was the perfect vet for our pets. We even got my grandma to take her pet too! Dr. Sheahan is very kind and compassionate to our pets, and caters to their needs to the fullest. You can tell she loves her job, helping animals. We took our dog in due to an emergency and did not have an appointment. They were able to get us in as soon as I let them know of her symptoms. We waited a little while but they did see her in a speedy time. The dr was super informative and helpful! Not once did he make us feel like there was any hope. We were searching for a local vet for our sick guinea pig. We were lucky enough to stumble across Dr. S and Rosedale Veterinary Hospital. The receptionist was able to squeeze us in as an emergency. Guinea pigs hide illness very well and even a small cold can be fatal. We hit the jackpot. . I've had pets all of my life and I have NEVER met a more thorough and knowledgeable clinician. Dr. S took a detailed history. She educated my daughter and I in correct care and answered all of our questions. She was quick to point out the positive things we were doing for our pet. She then did a complete and gentle exam. We were prescribed medications including pain medication. Dr. S. did not rush into performing unneeded tests and we left with a plan to return for testing if our piggie did not respond to treatment. It is with a very heavy heart that I am posting this review! My dog has been seeing Heidi sheehan at Rosedale vet for a few years! Heidi in my opinion is very exceptional in her practice and has always been very good with and to my dog! She explains everything in depth! Unfortunately I had an appt and had to cancel because I became sick, considering jack her husband ( HUGE ASSHOLE) was such a mask bandit when Covid was around, It was best to reschedule and not expose the office to whatever I may have! So I called as usual have to leave a message! He calls me back to tell me unfortunately he is going to have to charge me for the service because he did not have time to book anyone for the time a lot that I have to cancel. Uh excuse me ...NOT! After we have words and he refuses to let me speak to Heidi he tells me that they have decided to cancel me as a client at their office!!! I had NO plans on coming back anyways! This is not the first time with jack ass and his attitude. I have witnessed him talk shit to his wife with customers standing at his counter. He is an asshole! Impressed! After being up with my 2 sick dogs all night I called my vet at open, only to be told 3:40. I then looked to Yelp for help on finding a vet that would see my dogs sooner. I called RVH minutes after they opened, and was met with a fabulous woman answering the phone, she listened and showed concern (I knew she understood my needs). Although they were completely booked with surgeries and other patient needs, she didn't just turn me away. She helped me with an immediate solution of taking my girls to a local emergency clinic, giving me the address and phone number. I appreciated her so much that at the end of the conversation, I asked her name so I could personally thank her. To my surprise I had actually been speaking the the doctor! She said she had been helping out at the desk since they were so busy upon opening! I admire how she made herself available and wasn't "above" her staff, and jumped in to help! My husband and I planned a trip the last minute this August, and our regular boarding facility was booked. So, I spent an hour online reading reviews for other boarders, and Dr. Sheahan was highly recommended. Our miniature dachshund, Sophie of 13 years, had had health problems since she developed pancreatitis a year ago, and I wanted her to be in good hands. She was there for two weeks. The first week she didn't do too well, and we were notified. They wanted to know if there was any special kind of food that they could buy to perk up her appetite. So, due to their concern, Dr. Sheahan and her husband, Jack, kept her at their own home over the weekend to keep an eye on her- they even bought special food for her because she had lost so much weight. The next week they said she perked up and was happier- Jack said he even kept her cozy up front near the desk in her bed so she would be around people. Then, she took a turn for the worse. Her pancreas just gave out. She couldn't hold any nutrients in her body anymore. Unfortunately, she passed away the following weekend on Saturday, August 8th. They were so sincere and totally sympathetic. Dr. Sheahan gave me a big hug and told me how very sorry she was. I realized it could have happened any time due to her poor health, but I truly know they did all they could to make her feel comfortable and happy. I was relieved that she was given the hospitalization she needed at the time. Even though I was devastated, I know she was in the very best hands. This is a wonderful veterinary hospital!! Everyone is personable, and it is run by a family who cares. I highly recommend this facility to anyone who wants a nurturing staff who will take an interest and give love to your pets. read more

We started taking our pets to Rosedale Veterinary because of the location close to our house. We've tried other vets to save money but have realized that you cannot, ABSOLUTELY cannot, "afford" to take your pet to anyone who doesn't treat your animal like a prized family member. We will never take our animals to any other facility, as Dr. Sheahan and the entire staff of Rosedale Veterinary behave as if each animal is a personal friend and family member of THEIR OWN. The personalized care given to each animal, the love, attention, and kindness... even the end-of-life concern and services are not comparable. They go above and beyond. I don't mind spending an extra $20 (if even that) to give my furry family members the care I would expect of any vet. read more

I had an EXTREMELY unsatisfactory visit taking my dog to this vet. She and her front desk staff had horrible customer service, took advantage and would not provide an estimate when asked for it. They over charged and were asking for a payment of $700+ for a simple office visit and routine testing. Heidi is a wonderful and compassionate Veterinarian. She takes care of all of our family pets. Most animals get panicked or scared when they go to the Vets office, but my dog Ruka goes absolutely bonkers. The atmosphere is always very upbeat and warm and inviting for my pets. My dog loves when I go out of town and I board her with them. She actually yanks on the leash with excitement to get in the office. The staff was so kind and extremely understanding when I had to put my cat Murphy down a year ago. They really do understand the relationship people have with their pets and how important they are to our families. They are by far the best place to go for your animals. You are always officially greeted by one of their many own animals. I love them and so do my pets!! read more

I've been a client at Rosedale Vet for 12 years and recently got a new pet. Dr. Sheahan is an amazing vet who cares for her pet patients as if they were her own; however, her husband runs the front desk and answers the phone and he can be extremely rude with poor people skills. I called to get my new pet in for vaccines. I told him she had already had her first set of vaccines when we picked her up at 8 weeks old from the breeder and we were told she'd be due for her next set June 23. His comments were, "Well, that's a little young to have vaccines" and "See, this is why we don't like to deal with breeders." (Rude! Not my fault). He informed me they had little availability, but he'd check the schedule again and get back to me by noon of that day. He never called back. Not what I expected after being a client there for many years, but I took it as a sign it was time to find a new vet with a nicer receptionist. Many people referred me to Thurman Vet Center, so I called and spoke with a friendly receptionist who booked an appointment for my new puppy without any rude commentary. read more

Both of my animals have been seen by her she's an awesome vet and great with animals, however I refuse to ever take my dogs back there because of the male receptionist which is her husband. He is the most arrogant, rude and unprofessional employee I have ever had to deal with. I went in to this vet needing a health certificate because my vet who normally does them had an emergency and couldn't get to me. I had checked with several other vets who couldn't get to me either. It was close to closing time and I had no appointment - so if you don't have time to do it, hey, no problem. I get it. What I was very unimpressed with was the receptionist had a real attitude and told me even if they HAD time to do it it takes 3 MONTHS to get a health certificate.... what!!? Literally it's just a piece of paper the airlines require to state they are healthy enough to fly... they're just supposed take vitals, look at the dog, etc. say it's clear to fly... 15 minute process. I spend a LOT of money with vets as we have a dog and horse facility, I also refer a lot of business for vets to my clients. It's easy to be kind to a client when it's convenient to you, but I found out real quick which vets I will NOT be doing business with, just in how they treated me after having to ask for a minor inconvenience for them. Saying no wasn't the issue - the way they did it was. Like it or not you may be an excellent doctor but the techs and the receptionists are the face and first impression of your business. Dr. Sheahan has been my Vet for over 13 years. She has taken care of a great deal of my animals. Her and her staff have gone above and beyond what you would expect from a Vet Hospital. Not only do they have the best attitude, they have the best equipment, current knowledge and a hospital that is cleaner than any other business I have ever visited. Dr. Sheahan lists her own cell phone number down as an emergency contact. I have talked to her at 2am, on weekends, etc. She has saved me many an unnecessary trip to the emergency clinic and has, when needed, come down herself and seen me at her hospital. I challenge you to tell me what other vet in town does that. She doesn't waste money on advertising (some of those ads you see cost the business $1000 a MONTH or more and YOU have to pay for that) she relies on word of mouth and obviously that works as she has a thriving business.
