Very friendly!!!!! Brought my cats there for check up and they made it feel like it was their cat's. So nice.

I needed to have my fur baby checked right away due to signs indicating she had a serious health issue. The wonderful ladies in the front office gave me the opportunity to bring her in that morning. Dr B ran tests and offered options on next steps for immediate treatment via a referral to urgent care. Unfortunately through additional tests she was diagnosed with an incurable cancer and was suffering. I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put her down. Even though the Dr and staff saw my pup for a short time they showed so much compassion. It is obvious how much they care for their patients and their "parents". Stiern vet is the best. I have taken both of my kitties here for spay and neuter. Each time was a very professional and compassionate visit. They take good care of your fur-babies here. Just call, set up an appointment, and drop them off on your appointment date between 7:30-8am and when they are done, they'll call or text and than go and pick them up! Procedure is not that long at all, 2-3 hours and both my kitties bounced right back to their normal selves soon after we picked them up. I get good vibes from this place, the staff is super friendly and they just make you feel comfortable here. They'll have you pay upfront a deposit for the service, than after the treatment is done and you go to pick up your baby, they'll have you pay the rest. Not as cheap as critters without litters, but you don't have to wait in that long line in the cold that critters without litters makes you do wait in. LOL. Well it seems that every time i update my review here now is when one of my and my sons sweet babies passes :(....I literally couldn't even write that one sentence without tears welling up in my eyes geez!! I shall get through this.... My son and i had rescued our bunny from my front lawn he actually was the neighbourhood bunny we'd been feeding him veggies for a while at that point and he was so very sweet he'd come up to the back glass door and sit and wait at my mat for his veggies and my sons loved him!! My middle son is autistic he adores animals that's his thing along with art and got so happy when he'd see him. One day we found him out front barely breathing and injured we brought him here to see Dr Rose and she fixed him up and he became part of our little family and brought him back to healthy man that was a task with his injuries! He's been an inside bunny living with our guinea pigs ever since then. We loved him so very much... He started to become lethargic and not himself he wouldn't eat or move around a lot so i thought it was just a tummy issue that would pass. We syringe fed him water and blended up veggies Dr Rose gave us advice and let us know what to watch for. He seemed to improve after a few days he even went on the tile something he refused to do before so i felt so relieved. But it didn't last he took a turn for the worse and when we woke up he was barely breathing it was utterly heartbreaking my son whom never cries just broke down i could barely keep myself together for him. We rushed him to the vet she tried her best and thought he'd make it but we had to make the most fucking difficult decision to let him go so he wouldn't be in anymore pain. I get so mad because i still think could i have done more to help him!!! That was devastating to myself and my sons i felt lost i thought he'd be with us for a very long time it was just so sudden.... They've always been so caring and sensitive in any situation that has come up with my animals and she is the only Dr here that will see bunnies. She sent a beautiful letter to us recently that i cried while reading she cares so much for her patients and their families and it is touching and so very appreciated i cannot express that enough...Thank You Dr Rose and staff for always taking care of our babies and helping us say goodbye in the most loving and peaceful way possible..i'm posting pics to remember him the way he was and the beautiful time we got to spend with him.... read more

We had to put our miniature doberman who was 20 years old down. He was our family so it was a hard decision to finally make and to go through with it. Iam so glad I chose this hospital. The price for euthanasia was very reasonable but the doctor who we had the privilege to do this service was soooo kind and so considerate. I appreciated her kindness and tone. She made us feel better during this sad experience and I will forever be grateful. I LOVE STIERN VET HOSPITAL! More importantly, my pets LOVE STIERN VET TOO! Recently, my beloved JoJo and Henry were put down. It was so difficult. Both dogs were elderly and suffering. The doctors, vet techs, and even the receptionists were compassionate, understanding, and sympathetic. We received a memory paw print and very kind cards with a hand written note by the vet. When my corgi had to be put down she cried with us, she is thorough in everything she does and took great care of my new rescue during her first vet visit and check-up. I've used Stiern for a few years now, all of my animals have been seen here. I've honestly never had any problems, the office staff and they vets are great. They've never been rude to me and always try to get my animals in if I need it. Today they were able to get my dog in as a work in appointment because she ripped her nail off and none of the emergency vet hospitals would see her. The staff was very nice and made me feel comfortable. However, I felt very uncomfortable with the Vet, Dr. Bollier. He did nothing for my animal. It seemed like he was lackadaisical and uninterested in really finding out what was wrong. Because he knew that I was on disability income, I felt I was treated like I was less of a person and like my pet's health wasn't of as much value. I was so dissatisfied with my visit and feel like I wasted a good $100+. I was charged an $80 urgent care fee which was $20 over their normal appointment charge. There was No interest in waiving the extra amount due to being on disability. I was even charged for talking to the Vet during the lunch hour because I was told that 'the staff was working overtime'. That's a first in my fifty years of seeing Vets!! So, I left feeling ripped off. My pet's health was important enough to try again (I had tried in the morning) to get in to my regular Vet, Dr. Shane at Mt. Vernon Veterinary that same afternoon. I was successful and they fit me in their schedule at their normal rate of $58. No urgent care fee. Within five minutes, I had a diagnosis, an explanation complete with diagram drawn on a paper towel ;-D an injection and a home treatment. My pet is already feeling better!! Dr. Shane's bedside manner with my animals has always been warm and caring. Unlike what I am sad to have experienced with Dr. Bollier. No warmth there. read more

They vastly need to improve their COVID protocols from the current way they are doing them. Their current process is to call a phone number that is always busy. If you can't get through on the phone they ask you text a phone number. If the number you text doesn't recognize they ask you to call so your back and you are back on step 1 not getting through on the phone. I was the first person in line for my dogs surgery but others that got here ended up getting through before me due this ridiculous process. read more

Dr. Rose Rakow is an amazing vet. We took my son's rabbit to her and she was able to clear the rabbits skin issue right up. We had taken the show rabbit to two other vets who said they could help us with a rabbit - which was not true. They did not know what they were talking about and SEVERLY overcharged us, without even fixing the issue. I highly recommend Dr. Rakow - she was very kind and gentle. We take our pets to Stiern Vet! Our dog is a very frequent visitor--and to the staff, for this I am sorry. He just has so many issues. They've treated his allergies, skin rashes, ear infections, and they fixed him. He's also received vaccines and flea treatments. Recently took my pug here to get spayed and they were so so good about everything!! Checking her in and out was super easy and they were really flexible about pick up times!! Would definitely recommend this hospital to others and for her to get spayed it was about ~$165 which is great for females nonetheless a 15 pound pug!! read more

Very unprofessional they will leave you on hold for over 20 minutes while there just sitting there blabbering then they remember they have patients on hold and just laugh I get it work sometimes gets hectic and overwhelming and we all need a break but I would rather be told can we give you a call back showing us that they actually care it's so sad I had to wait over 20. read more

They did an excellent job neutering my rabbit. I had 5 other rabbits spayed/neutered at another vet and wasn't super happy with the complication rate (rabbits are very difficult to do spay/neuter surgeries on). When I learned Stiern had an exotic vet I decided to try them out for my last bunny. They were very thorough explaining how they perform the surgery. The surgery site had very little inflammation, no bleeding, and my bunny was eating again within a couple hours of waking up. In my prior experiences with these surgeries I always had to baby the bunnies for a couple days and hand feed them and keep them from biting at the surgery site, but the bunny I had neutered at Stiern acted like nothing happened! I am very happy with my experience here and will be returning with my other pets, I wish I would've found them sooner. read more

Would give zero stars if permitted. We have been long time formerly happy clients of Dr Rakow. However, our opinion has been altered to extremely unhappy former clients. As background, we have scheduled two appointments each approximately one month apart "because they were fully booked". When we showed for the first appointment we were informed "they had an emergency" so we understood and rescheduled to the next available, which was another months wait. Took time off from work to attend the rescheduled appointment and again we were informed, can't see you, "we had an emergency". There was no offer to try and accommodate us with another vet, no apology, nothing. At this juncture, I believe they prefer to give excuses and disregard my time instead of ACTUALLY caring for my pet. I have had enough of their excuses. I guess they ultimately got what they wanted as no one in my family will EVER take their pet here and I'm done with them. Dirty unsanitary lobby and exam rooms. Rude office staff. I LOVE LOVE this place (and their other Southwest location). I have 7 pets- yes 7. 3 dogs, 2 rabbits, a guinea pig and a rat. It's really difficult to find a vet for exotic animals, so I spent quite a bit of time searching Bakersfield to see what they had to offer. I'm from Los Angeles, so it's definitely nerve wracking to switch vets and expect good care. The clinic itself is on the older side, with a super busy, super small waiting room. I won't even remove a star for this, because they work with what they have and do their best to accommodate. It's very clean both in the waiting room, and in the patient rooms, so I have no qualms. I brought in my rat, who is a senior (he's over 3 years old). Luckily they have a vet who does exotics, and they scheduled me as soon as they could. The vet I saw was AMAZING. She spent about 30 mins with us, checking him over, being as gentle as possible, and answering my millions of questions. She diagnosed him with arthritis and started us on non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. I swear, my rat was a new man within one dosage of this stuff. I can't be more happy with how things worked. Best part?? Prices are totally reasonable, they really care about you and your pet, and try their hardest to work with the busy insanity that is this place. IF YOU HAVE EXOTIC PETS TAKE THEM HERE!!! I cannot stress this enough. We need more exotic vets in town. Thank you to everyone that helped us out here!! read more

Even though I live deep in the southwest, I make the long trek across town to visit Stiern for my pets and I truly couldn't be happier with their service. Over the years, I've had absolutely atrocious experiences at various vets in town (namely: Banfield in the Petsmart on Ming? Completely misdiagnosed my great dane, then killed him by giving him a medication that I later found out is supposed to be taken for no more than 3 days. . . for 14 days!), but I will always use Stiern. Just to give you some background about how great these folks are: I got my dog from the pound, but she handed been fixed yet, so they wanted to hold her a few weeks so they could send her to their place to be spayed. Apparently, they were "several weeks behind." Aye. Fine. One week later, the day before Christmas, I received a phone call, "Yeah, she's coughing. She probably has parvo. We don't treat dogs here, so either you can come pick her up and take her to the vet yourself or we're going to put her to sleep." As an animal lover, I was horrified--- but since I had already bonded with her, I gave them my credit card over the phone and sent a friend to get her before I got off work. With the holiday, I couldn't take her into the vet for 3 days, but during that three days, she didn't cough even once. When I took her into Stiern and explained the situation, the vet checked her over and said, "This is the healthiest dog I've ever seen. I'll give you some antibiotics just in case, but she's perfectly fine. I can't believe they were going to put her down!" All well and good, yes? When I got back up front to check out, they told me I wasn't being charged, since nothing was wrong with the dog. Even though they gave me a bottle of antiobiotics. How nice is that? Every other time I've come in, they've been kind, prompt, and genuinely helpful. Prices are beyond reasonable. Check them out- they're worth the drive! read more

I love my new vet and so does my doggy!! The front desk girls are very kind and professional and you feel like they care!! They also kindly worked my dog in as she was suffering with this cough. They got me in the next day!! And after BVH making my dog wait 4 weeks otherwise they said I could pay 120$ and come in anytime. Are they joking??? So I decided to hunt for a new vet and so far I'm a satisfied mom!! The dr was very informative and gave me a lot of information other vets never did. I left feeling like my fur baby was on the road to feeling better. This vet had compassion but he also listened to our needs and helped with an affordable solution. We really appreciated that! There is nothing on this Earth that I love more than my dog and they do a great job at taking care of him. "Most" of the vets here do a great job at making my dog feel comfortable and that means the world to me because to me there is nothing worse than seeing somebody who doesnt care do there job. The girls at the front desk are very kind and very friendly. Very fair prices and I hear theyre the cheapest in town. (I wouldnt know because I only come here) They lose a star here because they told my GF that my dog has a heart murmer and the vet started crying and that freaked my GF out, Very unprofessional. But other than a few of the vets being a little too rough with my pup, they do a good job here. Solid 4 stars. read more

I've been going to this vet for a while and so has my family and so I heard about the dog influenza that is possibly going around and decided to take my dog here for a flu shot. I usually see the vet Rose Rakow and she is amazing. She is very understanding, knows how to approach a scared dog, is very compassionate and professional. I saw the vet Cynthia Dahlgren and she insinuated multiple times that because my dog growled at her my dog was traumatized by me when she was a puppy. She then continues to make snide comments to me about my dog being aggressive all because she was scared of getting the shot and all she did was growl. She never snapped or tried to resist the shot in any way. She stayed still and was very good she was only a little scared because she had never seen this vet before. She then starts to talk to me in a condescending tone throughout the whole rest of the visit and letmy dog and says to her "if you don't start acting better you're going to get you mom into a lot of trouble" and then decides to do a random physical on my dog and starts feeling her bones as if she is looking for signs of abuse and my dog is not even dirty she then says "oh I see some dandruff" acting as if I don't take car of my dog. I have never had a visit from here be this upsetting or have a vet this rude, unprofessional or inappropriate. I will no longer be taking my dog here unless I absolutely have to and I will ONLY be seeing the vet Rakow. After seeing your response I'm even more angry. I made it very clear I DO NOT CARE what her intent was she was rude and unprofessional! I am even more upset at your response after someone else is saying she is responsible for the mistreatment of another dog recently I am furious that you had the nerve to say this in your response. I have never had a more rude, unprofessional and inappropriate vet. I do not care if her "intent" was off she was RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL! I will never be returning to this vet again now even to see the vet I like. You have now lost our our entire family from going here which equals four other dog patients. Just because her so called "intent" was not rude it doesn't matter she was rude and got caught and that is her defense. She talked to me and said things that should never be said to a patient and I think it's because I'm young she thought she could be condescending and unprofessional towards me because there wouldn't be any repercussions on your side. Our dogs are our children, and at Stiern Veterinary clinic, The staff treat them that way. Our basset hound gets very nervous going to the vet, but the staff here is so understanding and comforting. Our shepherd mix is just the sweetest dog, although he is a bit hyper. When we took him to the vet at a local pet store, they had to muzzle him and had no patience for him.
