The location is wonderful, quiet but close to everything...the park, restaurants, walking to Granville Island. Our room with 3 people was huge and so comfortable for 5 days. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen, dining room and large living room. Never heard anyone's tv or doors slamming in the hallway. Just a lovely place to stay. My son and I stayed at the Rosellen Suites in mid October 2024. What a lovely place! We were upgraded to a two bedroom, two bathroom suite and it was huge! Beautiful wood floors which were impeccably clean as was the entire suite. A small kitchen with fridge, stove, dishwasher (!) and basic dishes, pots, etc. A full ice tray wanting in the freezer portion of the fridge. Yes, it is different from what one would think of as a "hotel", but nowhere in their advertising do they claim to be one. The young man who checked us in was thorough in explaining about the building. Very polite, efficient. Other staff encountered during our stay were also very polite and helpful. I have seen some negative reviews speaking of the check in process, however, I received an email prior to our arrival explaining the process. Yes, if you do not yet have your key card you must wait to be buzzed in ... but I think that is better than letting anyone wander through the building. I felt completely safe and secure here despite being steps away from the busyness of the city. The building is quaint. The elevator is likely the original. It is small, but only once did we have another person join us in it. Some complain about the "dated" decor, but isn't that the point? This is a vintage building in Vancouver's West End. The apartment we were in is NICER than the one we rent at home. Parking underground is a challenge, I wouldn't show up in my F350 dually. BUT the fellow checking us in ASKED what kind of vehicle we had to ensure it was suitable. There are also spaces in the laneway behind the building. I cannot wait to have the occasion to stay here again ... however, very saddened to hear someone is trying to develop the lot into a 29 story behemoth. Okay, I really wanted to give this place at least *two* stars... it *is* really close to Stanley Park. But I can't. This *not* a regular hotel, but a converted apartment building, with an ambiance somewhere between a youth hostel and a late 1970s college apartment (trust me, I lived in one.) The Internet worked well, so two stars to Algore for inventing that. In a regular hotel, you would arrive (24/7), pull into the driveway, and check in the the front desk... except there *is* no driveway, no parking lot, and NO front desk. You have to haul your bags across the street from your taxi, and wait outside the door until they eventually buzz you in. After hours, they leave your check in package in a box and tell you to go directly to the room. The elevator is the size of a phone booth, and of a vintage that Mr. Otis installed it himself. No restaurant. Period. This "hotel" might be an adequate choice if you 1) have minimal luggage, 2) care not a thing about "decor," and 3) need proximity to Stanley Park. And you plan to arrive and check out during regular business hours. Can't imagine what the parking nightmare would be if you drove your own car. This is NOT the accommodation to book if you are boarding a cruise ship with a ton of luggage and older travelers. They need to make the minimum investment to make a front desk and a driveway to become a [marginal] actual hotel. read more

I needed to find a place in town where my grandparents, aunts, uncle, cousin and brother could all stay when they were visiting for my wedding. Since my grandma has a hard time being out and about all day, I wanted to find a place that would be comfortable for her in case she wanted to hang back while the rest of the family ventured out. The idea of my grandma sitting alone in a standard hotel room depressed me, but then I found the Rosellen. The Rosellen is hotel situated in an older building that used to be a condo. It does have an older feel to it so if you are looking for ultra modern and trendy, this is not the hotel for you. If you are looking for suites that can sleep up to seven people, then this might just be your place. My family liked it because their suite came with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a nice sized kitchen, a dining room, and a living room so everyone could spread out without being on top of each other. I scoped out the hotel before recommending it to my family and I was immediately sold through my interaction with Jean, the manager. He was so sweet and accommodating and gave me the confidence that my family would be in good hands. The Rosellen is in the West End in a quiet, residential neighbourhood within easy walking distance to Stanley Park and English Bay. There are plenty of dining options on Denman Street, which is only a few blocks from the Rosellen. The largest suite at the Rosellen is called the Katherine Hepburn Suite, because Katherine Hepburn stayed there when she was making a movie in Vancouver. She wanted to stay as close to Stanley Park as possible and so she made the Rosellen her temporary home. This penthouse suite has a huge deck, BBQ, and beautiful views. read more

We spent two nights here. We stayed in a one bedroom classic suite. The apartment was clean and fully furnished, cable TV, fully stocked kitchen (décor just slighted dated). Location is good, within walking distance of a number of restaurants, grocery store, Starbucks. Stanley Park 15 minute walk too. Tree lined streets made this place feel like home and not a hotel. This place gets 4 stars based on bang for your buck. It may not be the fanciest place, or even modern, but you get a lot for your money considering location, convenience, and spaciousness. This is a former apartment complex that has been repurposed into a hotel. The property is dated. Lots of new paint over old construction. That elevator is pretty funky! But the room itself is very spacious. Depending on what unit you get, you have at least a full separate bedroom, and a fully functioning kitchen with a large refrigerator. I couldn't get the heater in my unit to work properly, but there were extra blankets so we were ok. Parking can be a serious pain. It's a very tiny garage that you have to squeeze in very carefully. I'm sure lots of cars were dinged here. Don't even think about trying to park on the street. Luckily this property is close to a lot of basic things such as decent eateries, a small market, and even Stanley Park which is a short 10-12 minute walk, so you don't have to drive too much if you don't want to. I had a very cozy experience here. I paid 200 Canadian Dollars (about $150US) per night here. I thought it was an outstanding value. I got great service as well. We arrived very early. Around 9am. But our room was ready so the staff let us check in right away. This was a good experience for those looking for a decent place to stay in the Vancouver area. read more

This place didn't deliver. 1) When we checked in we were charged almost $100 over what we were quoted over the phone. 2) We booked one night, and, at check in already charged for two nights at the above bait-and-switch price. The confirmation email was received by us AFTER we checked in, and when arrived it did NOT agree with the price quoted over the phone. Had we received the email in a timely manner we would have cancelled due to the pricing difference. 3) My credit card had already been charged for two nights, so I had to get a refund on my card. I wonder how long THAT will take. 4) At first glance the place looks great. On second look the two queen beds promised are actually a double and a queen. The room containing the double bed is so small that the bed is situated in the middle of the room with the headboard on one wall and the foot of the bead literally touching the opposing wall. So, no walking around the bed, and you can only access the TV (computer monitor) by crawling across the bed. 5) The sleeper sofa... it's like sleeping on bailing wire. Seriously. Every. Spring. My sister wouldn't even let me sleep on it as planned. 6) Sitting room has a nasty, green rug with 3" matted, gross shag. I wouldn't walk on it with my bare feet. 7) The curtains in the sitting room with the trashy rug and wretched sleeper sofa are too small for the window, leaving a 6" gap either side. There are blinds behind the curtain, but they do not block the light well for sleeping. 8) The other bedroom is lovely and spacious. 9) The bathroom and kitchen areas appear clean as do the bedrooms. 10) We arrived early so we parked on the street and skipped the $25 parking fee. 11) We should have walked at check in. read more

Almost less than 24 hours prior to our visit, the Manager of Guest Experiences contacte my husband informing him that they overbooked and would be relocating us at a different hotel. We were super annoyed with this because we had booked our reservation about 1 month prior through travelzoo where our request was confirmed via email. First of all, how does a hotel overbook? If you only have a set amount of rooms available, don't commit to renting out your place (I think people who were willing to book at a higher price made the reservation, thus we were bumped). Second, why are you telling us this information at the very last moment. This is completely unprofessional. The manager, Tag Ng tried to convince us that the hotel we were placed at was just as good or if not better. His informed us that our credit cards have already been charged and they couldn't give us a refund. So basically, we had no say in this new arrangement. Had we wanted to book at the other place, I would have done so. The sole reason I booked at their establishment was because of the proximity to Stanley Park. Mr. Ng also stated that we would receive a complimentary free night for our inconvenience. I thought this offer was really nice but I wanted to clarify whether or not the free night gift certificate would be redeemable on a weekend. Many gift certificates/deals offered on Travelzoo, Groupon, and etc. have fine print that has many stipulations. I called Mr. Ng to clarify these questions. Talking to this man was so frustrating. He was not only extremely rude, impatient, but unclear. I posed the question about the stipulations and he first said that he could not answer any of my questions because it concerned my husband's booking. He had to talk to him. However, I kept trying to emphasize that the questions that I was posing did not have anything to do with changing the booking or requesting for personal information. I had to ask him several times, "the questions that I have are very general, can you help me?" After some back and forth, he finally complied and agreed to answer my questions about the gift certificate. When I asked him about whether it was redeemable on weekends, he said, "Never in my 20+ years of working here has a guests asked abut the gift certificate, we do everything to accommodate you." He said this as if there was something wrong with asking such a simple question. If a guest has legitimate questions, I would assume that this should be answered rather than make them feel bad for asking. I simply said, "well many of the certificates I have received have stipulations." His response was something along the line of "I feel sorry for you that you have encountered these kinds of difficulties and don't trust businesses." This was a totally inappropriate comment. Then I asked him whether I could use the gift certificate on a specific date and without checking on the computer to see if they were overbooked he said that it was alright. I asked him to check again and he was like "look, you have already asked this questions. I have been on the phone with you for 20 minutes now..." I was so enraged by this because he never bothered to check the specific dates, therefore not answering my questions and we had only been on the phone at that point for 10 minutes (I looked at the counter on my phone). Again, completely rude and unprofessional. If you haven't resolved my issue, unfortunately, you should take the time to speak to your customers rather than reprimand them for taking up your time. The final kicker that really just made me want to cancel my reservation was that I asked if I could apply my gift certificate to a Saturday in January. I asked if I made the reservation, would he cancel it again like this time. At this point, he was really impatient with me and said, "we try our best with accommodating our customers and try to avoid overbooking. We cannot guarantee you because if we do, you will be disappointed. This is a benefit that the hotel is offering you this certificate. If you don't want it, we'll cancel your reservation." What the heck, at the beginning of our conversation, you said that you couldn't cancel my reservation and now you are saying you can? He just didn't want to deal with me anymore so he offered this. Seriously, all I want is for the hotel to honor a gift certificate given to me. I don't want to have to deal with being placed at another hotel again or have my reservation canceled. The question I had was perfectly legitimate because this had already happened to me. I reiterated that all I wanted was to redeem the certificate without any issues and that I've stayed at other hotels where they assure their customers that a reservation would be honored and not placed at different ones since this has never happened to me before. He was like, "Do you work in the hotel industry?" Throughout the conversation, he was rude, impatient, and condescending to me. Even with the great offer, I decided for a refund. read more

Another one of the many, many converted apartment/condos to studio hotel in Vancouver. I love the Rosellen. We've stayed here several times when our family of 7 has been in Vancouver together. The last visit I have exact prices for, we stayed in a 2 bedroom unit with a pullout couch. It was about $250 per night with tax. These are huge units. Check their website - the photos are very accurate. They are very clean and the kitchens are very nice, large. If you're hanging out on Robson or in Stanley Park, you can walk around easily. Also, this is in a residential area, so it's pretty quiet. The building is nondescript from the outside. It looks like it was built in the late 50's- early 60's, but it's tastefully decorated, understated and comfortable. Excellent for families and large groups! read more

Got my dad a room here for 3 nights, I pre-ordered (when you book and pay 30 days before the reservation, you get 20% this already reasonably priced hotel) a studio suite. When we arrived, the friendly staff had upgraded him to a 2 bedroom 1 bath, it was HUGE! While the decor etc. wasn't frilly, it still looked tasteful, and was impeccably clean. They have a full kitchen (including dishes and dishwasher!), and a really big dining room and living room area (which is true of the studios/1br as well). I live nearby in a tiny west-end apartment, so it was perfect for us to hang out there. The cleaning staff even did our dishes for us. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Vancouver, the price, the location, and the amenities cannot be beat! read more

I had the good fortune of staying at this hotel for 3 nights due to overbooking at my original hotel. My good fortune! This hotel is on the west side of Denman Street - close to Stanley Park - and VERY quiet. You get the rain forest vibe - but you are only a 2 block walk to the restaurants and attractions of the west end. A very Vancouver experience! My suite was amazing and very comfortable. It is an old, almost retro property, but in great shape and very very charming. There is no 24 hour desk or other "hotel" features - but if you are looking for a place that feels private and your own - this is it. I wish we had been able to check in during office hours because it was a bit of a pain trying to figure out what time checkout was, but that definitely won't stop us from coming back again. Are you kidding me?! The suite they put us in for 6 people only sleeps 3. The sofa "bed" was a very offensive tangle of springs that belongs out on the curb. The bed in the second bedroom is wedged between two walls head and foot, making it necessary to climb over each other to get in and out. Curtain does not fit window so don't count on a darkened room. Grass green shag carpet needs to go out to the curb along with the sofa bed. We feel cheated and wish we had left upon viewing the room. read more

Before staying at the Rosellen Suites, I'd never stayed in a hotel that had originally been an apartment building. I was right on top of it before I recognized that I really was there, at a hotel that looked just like any other apartment building in the neighborhood. I found it both odd and pleasant. When I checked in, I didn't do it over a countertop. I was greeted, seated before a desk, and drawn into a lengthy conversation with a gentleman who absolutely bent over backward to make me feel welcomed and informed. It felt as much like an interview as it did a check-in. By the time it was over I couldn't have thought of a question to save my life! Parking (easier than the bumper-to-bumper on-street parking makes it look), keys, payment of my bill, hours when I might expect to find staff at the desk--all exhaustively covered. My "apartment" was roomy, well-lit, and clean. The decor (which I understand varies from room to room) was a little austere but the only thing it lacked was the ability to choose pay per view movies. Contrast that with the perfect location (hardly two minutes from the glorious Stanley Park and an easy walk to the tourist ferry to Granville Island) and it was no lack at all. This is the worst hotel experience we have ever had. The hotel room was dirty and turned out to be a residential hotel. After arriving with our family, we took one look and left. It was hard to find anything else on short notice so it was a huge hassle for us in all ways. On top of it all, they charged an outrageous price. We found bugs in the hotel room, there were drunk people outside, the chairs were filthy, the carpet was beyond old, and the place smelled. My family has been staying at the Rosellen Suites for years. The location can't be beat (one block from Stanley Park, and a five-minute walk to Denman Street's shops and restaurants). The suites are large - our family of four is very comfortable - and the kitchens are well-equipped. The staff is helpful and friendly. The decor is practical rather than elegant, and the suites are very clean. As a bonus, we were there over Christmas, and Santa apparently left us chocolates outside our door during the night. read more

Great location in a nice neighborhood! Stanley Park is about a block away one direction; tons and tons of restaurants are a couple of blocks away another direction. The service was excellent - the clerks are exceedingly helpful and friendly. We stayed in apartment 501, a two bedroom with a full living room, dining table and kitchen. If you're looking for a spacious place to stay that is very, very clean and where you can spread out, this is the place. If you're looking for a party place, this is not for you. We loved that the management specifically states that loud parties won't be tolerated - this is a great place for the family! read more

I got ripped off!! The photos on booking.com are of the nicest, most expensive room in the building. I ended up with a old, sort of crappy, room. Definitely not worth what I paid. The man is strange and stubborn. There is no ramp!!! What are you supposed to do with suitcases? Well...just drag 'me up the steps. There pretty much is no lobby and their office is a tiny room. I called ahead and let the hotel know I would be arriving very late - my flight into Vancouver landed at midnight. They said it was not a problem and gave me late check-in procedures. Upon arrival I had to stand outside while it was -3C for 30 minutes until the night duty attendant decided to finally buzz me in. Given that I had called ahead and provided my arrival time I did not appreciate having to freeze outdoors for that long. Additionally, they provided me with a parking pass and their facility had only 6 designated outdoor parking spaces. What kind of hotel only offers 6 spaces! I had to park on the side of the building and hope my car didn't get towed. Overall not a good experience. I will definitely book somewhere else where they have a full-time attendant available. read more

We find the best way to explore Vancouver is to get a hotel in a great location so we can park the car and walk and this hotel has a great location for exploring Stanley Park and downtown on foot. There are numerous restaurants on Denman and you can walk to the waterfront. The hotel is older apartment style as mentioned in other reviews but our room was very spacious, clean, flat screen tv's in bedrooms and living room. There were upgraded ceiling fans in the bedrooms that were quiet during operation. This is not a party hotel but more a peaceful retreat from the party scene of the downtown. We found the staff friendly and honest as we forgot something in our room and were notified by email to make arrangements for pickup or shipping in a timely manner. We enjoyed our stay and would visit again. read more

This was a great value. I love having a separate living room/dining room when my husband likes to sleep in. Excellent location (we're tourists from California) to see everything Vancouver has to offer. My only complaint (and for this price I shouldn't say a word) was the bathroom had little place to stash our stuff and hang towels. We paid an average of $200/night Canadian. Front desk guy (Ken) was super helpful and friendly. Keep in mind that they have office hours so if you come in after 5:30pm you're on your own for check-in. We'll be back. read more
