Never in my life have I felt miserable after a doctors visit. As an America's Best patient for almost a decade, I decided to support a local business for a change. I went online to Zoc Doc to search for a local optometrist that accepts my insurance. I came across Rosen Optometry and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Ashely Tary on Zoc Doc specifically for "eyeglasses."
Upon my arrival, I enter into a small office with about six female staff members. Two of the ladies were having heated personal conversations on their phone in front of patients. I felt uncomfortable immediately. As I was walking to the to the receptionist to sign in, I felt a slight, negative vibe from the staffs. Maybe, it's because I'm the ONLY minority in the room? I ignored it and moved on. I told the receptionist, I'm here for an eyeglasses exam, she requested for my driver's license and insurance card for registration. I handed her both cards with my CORRECT full name and signed the patient form with my CORRECT name and got seated. One of the staff called "Kahanh" to go into the room. I ignored her. She called a second time and pointed at me. I immediately felt insulted. I replied I'm sorry did you call my name? She said yes. I told her my name is "Khanh." she looked at me and pointed to the room.
As I entered a testing room, I was offered the glaucoma testing for an extra fee. I declined. The staff seemed offended. Later, Dr. Tary was ready for me. I came into her exam room and told her I'm here for an eyeglass exam one more time. She offered the Glaucoma testing again, I asked her if my insurance would cover it. She said there are two types; one is $39 the other is include with my exam. I opt for the one included. She asked me if I was wearing contact lens. I said, "yes, I've been going to America's Best, and I've worn Acuvue 2 for over 14 years. Is there another brand that you recommend?" She told me the Acuvue Oasys or the daily wear are the best. She asked if I wanted to try on the new contact lens brands. I agree. Never did I request for a contact lens service nor did she informed me my insurance doesn't cover it or that would be responsible for the service.
Little did I know, the week after I got a surprise bill with an incorrect name "Kahanh" after correcting my name several times to the staffs. The bill was for a comprehensive exam, refraction, and contact lens services. I politely called the office to asked about the bill. The receptionist was rude and very hostile, she told me I had two choices, either I pay the remaining balance off or they will report me to the collection agency. I asked to speak to the supervisor but got hung up instead. Never will I return to this office! I would recommend this office to someone who is looking to be insulted or ripped off. read more
