I have ordered popcorn from here several times as gifts. My favorite is the kettle popped popcorn but a close second is the Carmel with nuts. It is the prefect amount of nuts to popcorn. read more

Looks like Covid-19 has given establishments license to cut many corners while increasing prices exponentially. Buttered popcorn was so dry and barely ANY butter essence at all. We turned around, interrupting our lovely Sunday drive, to return the substandard product. Lesson learned. read more

OMG, I nearly screamed when I saw I've never written a review for Popped. How is that even possible? Popped is a literal gem located in the newer Acorn Alley and you can find metered parking right outside their doors. Popped is a sparkling, delicious store filled with popcorn, candy, chocolate, ice cream and more. The owner, Gwen, is a lovely person who truly cares about the creations on her shelves. Every single item is made with total love and in their production facility. Popped is a go-to spot for me...if I'm even somewhat in the area I will make a point to get here. The store just exudes happiness for me, the prices are reasonable and the popcorn might be my favorite in Northeast Ohio. You honestly can't go wrong with anything here. My favorite popcorn here is by far the Black Squirrel Crunch, made with locally roasted peanuts, kettlecorn, and chunks of milk chocolate covered peanut brittle toffee chunks! Be careful or you'll want to eat the entire bag at once. This is also a favorite of mine to give as a gift...not only is it delicious, but I love the local Kent spin on it. Popped is not a one trick pony! I thought they just made great popcorn... but they have everything! Candy, chocolate, popcorn, everything! But what I enjoy most from Popped is their homemade ice cream! It's delicious! It's the best ice cream in the area. And the reason for the 5 star review is that they also have the kindest, friendliest people working for them. We took our family of 5 to Popped for dessert and all got ice cream. My daughter (8) got a cone and was waiting patiently up front. Everyone got their cone before her and every time they brought out a cone, she perked up then looked back down. She just waited patiently. Finally when it was her cone, the girl behind the counter asked if this one was hers. My daughter smiled and said yes. The girl throws an extra scoop on top for her and thanked her for waiting so nicely. That was above and beyond, and showed me how much they care about their customers. I will always choose popped for dessert. read more

I love this place! Their dark chocolate salted caramel is my favorite and when I buy a bag, it barely makes the car ride home. I also put this in all of my hotel bags for My wedding for out of town guests, kettle or plain butter, and lots of people asked where the store was so they could stop in on their way home after. I give it every year for Christmas gifts, too! Every time I go, I see lots of people inside trying their ice creams but I've yet to try them or any of the chocolate treats. I wish I could give this a 3 star and I'm really hesitant on the two. So if you're reading this look at it as probably a three with sides of two. Das Mann and I stepped in here last week as we were perusing the Kent area. See, I'm going back to school; I'll be a commuter student and I need to know where I can get a decent cup of coffee and maybe a snack or dinner. We came across Popped and well...I love me some good popcorn. The lady who was running the place was really nice, informative, and friendly. She was also running her butt off trying to assist us and not let her popcorn burn. (Yes, you're a small entrepreneur, but perhaps a cheap college student assistant would help?) She had at least 5 flavors / styles of popcorn going from kettle corn to caramel corn w/ cayenne pepper. I sampled the spicy popcorn and found it to be lacking. It was interesting to be sure, but eh...kind of blah on the whole. I ordered a small bag of caramel with peanuts for my mother's birthday and we took it to go. Man oh man, that chick packed the bag full! Thank you for giving me my money's worth (BONUS POINTS!). Here's what I felt over-all about the popcorn. The caramel corn is too sweet, so sweet in fact that you almost cannot taste the popcorn under all the sugar. And the caramel is almost sugared like it was cooked too long. The peanuts were indiscernible around all the "caramel" which was a bummer. I did get a kernel in my popcorn too which, considering the caramel is so hard, you might break a tooth if you're not careful. Popped did have some cute merchandise in the form of t-shirts, and take-away bags of popcorn with special dressings etc. These are great for tourists or for the kid going home from school at Christmastime. I do realize I'm a terrible snob and that NOTHING and I mean NOTHING has come close to comparing with Garrett's popcorn. But here are a few tips for Popped: 1. Get a helper 2. I love that this business stays as local in sourcing their ingredients as possible...way support other local businesses! Popped also supports the Kent community as well. Another Yelper commented on the scarcity of flavor choices, but they seem to have expanded their line. Popped is amongst the wonderful new stores in downtown Kent. I stopped in because I'd sampled the popcorn before but never gone in myself. I've been in the Kent area for almost ten years now, and Popped is the kind of shop that makes me proud of where the downtown area is going. It's locally owned and operated, and they use locally grown ingredients. The last time I was there, they were actually receiving a delivery of popcorn kernels grown and produced in Ohio. I'm a fan of that. The flavors are great, with the Firehouse Caramel Corn being the star of the show. If you don't get some of it, you're crazy. Literally crazy. This stuff is amazing, and painfully (no pun intended) addictive. FRIENDLY ADVICE: * Ask for a frequent shoppers card (they have them by the register). * Try their ginger lemonade. Amazing. * They open at 12pm, Monday through Saturday. At first I was like, "Why can't I buy popcorn before work?" Then the reasonable part of my brain was all like, "Maybe you shouldn't eat popcorn for breakfast." On the plus side, they're open til 9 on Friday and Saturday if you get a late craving. And you will. * They have these cool aluminum tins you can get if you need a gift. Trust me, this stuff makes an awesome gift (especially if you want to be the cool kid who gets to be the first to tell your friends about Popped). * You can mix flavors. Try asking for Firehouse Caramel Corn mixed with the White Cheddar. * The brown bags are super durable. Popped makes hands down my favorite ice cream in the city. They incorporate local farm ingredients and make everything on site. It's heavenly! Ever since we found this gem by Acorn Alley, we really don't get ice cream elsewhere! They have great flavors like peach, chocolate covered strawberry, cookie dough, and tons of other fun combinations like caramel and peanut butter. Popped! is a really cute shop with great decor and super friendly service. I found the ice cream to be hit or miss- some of my samples didn't have much flavor, but some were phenomenal. I ended up going with vanilla and vanilla malt. They were so tasty and the texture was amazing and a bit gummy- I love that! The popcorn is excellent, and I love the creative offerings they have (my favorite is the Baja Ohio). This place could get addicting fast. Chocolate popcorn? Yes, please. The owner is amazingly friendly and allowed us to sample every flavor that caught our eye. She made it a point to tell us that her products were from Ohio, which I whole heartedly support. The only downside to Popped is that the prices are a little on the high side for popcorn.
