Location is the only thing going for Roses last night. We gave out name and were told 15 minutes of wait. After 30 minutes we were paged and given a table next to Hostess stand. This table is awful. Here is the rub......4 booths in main...3 tables on covered patio ...4 tables on outside patio were open. 30 minute wait when 11 tables open is insane....it gets crazier....so when we asked to sit in a better open table....the hostess says...just a sec..gives us a pager and puts us on the bottom of the wait list...15 minutes go by and we get seated at outside table.....it gets worse...10 minutes go by no waiter.....there was plenty of servers...just not any service....it gets better...we finally order. 25 minutes for a cold hamburger and salad......all said almost 2 hour dining disaster..DO NOT BE FOOLED by location as that is the only thing good about this place read more

I am so happy to write this review because Rose's was everything I had hoped for our 5 year wedding anniversary dinner. We went in October, and the heated patio room overlooking the lake was a wonderful place to be seated with the changing autumn leaves out the huge windows. The view transports you.....it's wonderful!! Our waitress, Danielle, was everything you could want in a waitress. Helpful, friendly, prompt, considerate. The service was great, and we loved the food. Because I have to eat gluten free, I was ecstatic to see the dishes with tortillas (I ordered the veggie enchiladas) were made with corn tortillas. I loved them! My husband's steak was extraordinary. The peanut butter pie for dessert with decaf coffee.....unbelievably good! You must save room for the peanut butter pie, ok? I loved that this restaurant had a vibe of being fancy and nice, with thoughtful extra touches and great service, but it was still affordable and not over the top, get out your very best outfit kind of fancy. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a special meal. We will be back! read more

I love Roses!They have the very best hamburgers. It is so bright and welcoming! I love many things on the menu.; Especially the crepes left from Sunday's brunch. Many good memories ........hot chocolate after skating, and OH the wonderful popcorn we ate as kids and now for an after lunch treat. I came here for Saturday lunch, and we dined on the enclosed patio, overlooking the lake and a few small sailboats. I ordered the turkey burger with bacon, which was incredible. And the root chips are delicious. I want to come back here and try more of their food... If I can get past this most incredible turkey burger. read more

As a former restaurant owner from the Chicago area, I've been to and dined at some great places. I have extremely high standards and expect a lot! If you read my other reviews, you'll see I'm pretty tough on food establishments. Rose's is solid choice for a good dining experience. Rose's seems to be rich in history, the atmosphere is a 5 star because of the views, but the food is just a 3. We sat in the enclosed patio, next to the window overlooking the lake. Beautiful! We went for lunch and both started with a soup. Both soups were fantastic. Some of the best soup we've had (Butternut Squash bisque and Tomato Basil). If I were to go back, I'd probably order just soup! For the main course, we both ordered sandwiches. The bread was burnt and the ingredients were skimpy (except for the lettuce). Their "root chips" must be a signature item, but they weren't very good. It's their version of freshly made potato chips. But instead of just potatoes, they use beets and sweet potatoes too, But they were all burnt and not very tasty. Service was marginal as we had to ask for water, refills of soda, etc. They weren't very attentive when it came to that part. I'll go back, but I'll be going back because the atmosphere is fantastic. read more

This may be my new favorite restaurant. Situated right on Reeds Lake, the patio and deck are fabulous places to sit on a summer evening. The food is delicious. Our party of 4 had a cheeseburger, their signature turkey sandwich, veggie wrap, and chicken Parmesan. Everything was flavorful, well cooked, and beautifully presented. And they finish your meal up with complimentary caramel corn. What's not to love? Service was friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back. Maybe tomorrow night! read more

Super tasty food found in Grand Rapids. Not to mention set right next to a lake (frozen while I was there), and breathtaking even still. I had a tasty BLT sandwich which was majorly supersized with yummy sweet potato chips accompanying it. My sis-in-law had a personalized pizza which was also tasty and huge. Hubs had the bangers and mash which he must have enjoyed because I barely got a taste. Both the rents had corned beef sandwiches, their staples because of it's superbness. If you're looking for a nice, well-priced and a pretty setting for a meal this is definitely the ticket. Love the cute neighborhood surrounding it as well. read more

The previous reviews at 3+ stars are all misleading. It took 45 minutes to get the layer dip appetizer, which only consisted of rice being the only thing to be cooked. Our entrees took a total wait time of 1.25 hours to be delivered from when we ordered. Their exercise was due to the cook time of the stromboli that we ordered that eventually came out overcooked and burnt. The angel hair pasta with chicken was bland with whole garlic cloves that were not cooked correctly. It needed way more flavor. Waiters were extremely slow. DO NOT GO! Way too much hype on Yelp with and such let-down in person. read more

Went here for dinner last night and can wait to go back. We live closer to 2 other Gilmore restaurants, but I would drive the longer distance to go here. When we arrived, 7:15 on a Friday night, we were told there would be an hour wait for 2. We picked up 2 seats at the bar almost immediately, and headed over for a drink. The bartenders were so funny and helpful, we decided to stay at that spot for the night. The whole experience was very pleasurable, but the bartenders are what made it above and beyond. I had the Mahi Mahi tacos, which were delicious, and my husband had whatever pizza was on special. Great portions and taste. Lovely experience all in all. read more

We have been going to Rose's regularly (about once a week) for over 20 years. It has a great location on Reed's Lake and the servers are all very good and attentive. We have been out of town and hadn't been back for about 3 weeks, and what a huge disappointment. Apparently there is a new "executive chef". Almost all of the entree and good appetizers are gone; the shrimp appetizer, scallop appetizer, spinach salad, bibb salad, small pesto salmon, are all off of the menu. The menu is much more geared toward pizzas, pastas, burgers and sandwiches now, which probably still make it fine for lunch. If you're looking for a nice dinner out, this is not the spot. By default, we ordered the NY strip steak for $29. What a huge disappointment - thin, covered in small onions with one mushroom and a sad looking tomato on the side. Although cooked correctly, the cut and quality of the meat were terrible. Being frequent patrons of Euro Bistro in Cascade, where you can get a beautiful 8oz filet with the steak frites for the same price, by comparison this was simply pathetic. They did take one steak off of our dinner bill, but the general direction of all the Gilmore restaurants seems to be find a great location, and pass off very mediocre food for increasingly high prices. Competition is a good thing, and the fact that Rose's was practically empty on Monday at 6:30 kind of shows that other people may have had similar experiences. Very sad to see the direction that Rose's has gone. There are much better options. read more

The food, ambiance, and service are always great. I'd recommend it to anyone, it's a go to anytime I have summer guests in town. The deck is amazing, quite a different atmosphere than inside. Upon leaving and walking through the dining room I felt bad for the guests subjected to such a boring setting (in comparison to the lake front, fireplace-lit deck). I have been coming to Roses for years and today has been the first time I have been truly disappointed. We started with their famous root chips. Wow!! Not crispy at all, chewy, almost rubbery. My Ahi tuna was okay, but only 4 small pieces almost half the size that it has been in the past. My husband had the lunch portion of the Romano chicken. The mashed potatoes were horrible-ver odd flavor. Hoping that this was a one off experience and not the new norm. read more

Rose's is our go-to place. The Burger is still one of the best in Grand Rapids. No other place in town offers such an amazing water view.

I've always loved Roses but our last dining experience left a bit to be desired. For one we were seated next to a very obnoxious group of young adults. [on the enclosed deck] They were so loud we both ended up with headaches, to say nothing of not being able to converse b/c we couldn't hear each other over the din of their loud voices. Then the pesto pizza was burned to a crisp on the bottom. We'd waited so long for it's arrival we just ate it. On a more positive note they seemed to have upgraded the peasant salad. It was loaded with goodies albeit under-dressed. The last time I ordered it there was barely anything but greens in it. We'll go back again, and hopefully I will be able to upgrade my rating. read more

Me and my better half went tonight. Started with the homemade chips (potato, sweet potato and beets) with goat cheese and roasted pepper sauces, that was amazing. Be mindful that it's a plate of chips big enough for a group of 4. We barely made a dent. The sauces were delicious, the chips were perfectly salted. Each one had a unique flavor and the two sauces were a perfect pairing. I had Mac and cheese and she had the chicken pesto pizza. The Mac was the heartiest dish I've had in a long time. Peas, pasta, 4 cheeses and 3 meats baked with bread crumbs.. It was amazing. Her pesto pizza was super flavorful! Very clearly used all fresh ingredients and homemade dough. We both had fresh bread with the meal. For desert I had the peaches and bread pudding. It had really great flavor, but you should let it sit for a minute or two when you get it so it soaks up the sauce in the bowl. She had the tiramisu.. Which was great, but came out a little dry (we're pretty picky about tiramisu).. All in all amazing food. I was very impressed at the care in preparation and playing of the food. Very rare for a restaurant as busy as they were and at a reasonable price (75 bucks for all of that). The negatives: although there was valet parking, it was a nightmare of cars, so many people in a very tiny parking lot. The hostess seemed completely clueless. We were buzzed 2 times to be seated. Once at 35 minutes of waiting when we were told the buzz was an accident and once at an hour and ten minutes which was for real. Even then she had no idea where to seat us. Our server was awesome, and the view was great on a beautiful may evening looking over the lake. Would be 5 starts if they could figure their host stand and if we didn't have to deal with the people of East Grand Rapids. We will certainly be back. But not at 6pm on a Friday. read more

Went to Rose's on 9-24-21 for our daughter's B-day. We have eaten at Rose's in the past and have always had a great meal. Not this time. Waited for a table for 30-min after being told it would be 10-15. We we're brought to our outside table that had not be cleaned, with food on the table and ground. Had to wait for the table to be wiped, which was then nice and wet. The chairs were not cleaned, nor was the food on the floor. After waiting 10 min for a wait person to come to our table, we gave up and flagged down a worker. Our waiter, Adam, came and was not very friendly. We had to waive him down for things throughout our meal. He would come and go quickly without waiting for us to finish telling him what we needed. The food was mediocre, at best. The steak came well done when it was ordered medium. The hamburger was medium when ordered well done. The mac and cheese was bland. The salmon overcooked. Forgot wine that was ordered until we were just about finished with dinner (asked for it 3x). The only good thing was the bruschetta and the bar staff. Needless to say, a very disappointing experience, except for the visiting duck. At least he cleaned up some of the food on the ground. $200 bill. Won't be back. read more

I really don't think this is a 1 star restaurant. I was here in the wintertime, and it was sooo beautiful looking out over the frozen lake. The food is really tasty, using many fresh Michigan ingredients, which I really appreciated. I tried some of a pizza and a pasta dish when I was there once, and another time just had a cheese plate. Sure, there are some petit-bourgeois, but who cares when the food is great and the view is to die for. read more

Went to Rose's while visiting family in Grand Rapids. They frequent the restaurant so they knew to go early for dinner to avoid a wait. We sat on the patio, Gorgeous!, and had a super waitress. The happy hour menu was awesome but we weren't there for that so ordered dinner and the ROOT CHIPS! OMG! So good, honestly, I could have stopped at that for my dinner. The order was huge and I could not stop eating them. My entree was a portobello and goat cheese pizza (minus the sausage) and it was great! We all loved our meal and the atmosphere was wonderful!
