Highly disappointed. Thought we'd dine out on the patio at Bostwick Lake Inn. Sat for 25 minutes while tables seated after us were served drinks. No wait staff even passed by for us to flag them down. No greeting by anyone after being seated. No water. Nothing. Decided to go somewhere else. Couldn't even find a host to tell on the way out that we were leaving. I know places are shorthanded, but it was not real busy and there were enough staff to take care of all of the tables. i have been coming here for many years and ive never been disappointed with my meal until recently on Mother's Day. I ended up having the salmon. The veggies looked like they had been warmed up out of a bag just unrealistic looking. the entire dish itself just was not flavorful or that appealing. That is the first dinner i have had that I genuinely was disappointed with my choice from BLI but what really got me was the busser. she was carrying around a bus tub full of liquid that was pouring out from a hole in the bus tub and came over to our table with the bus tub leaking everywhere and rested it on one of the chairs that was empty and started filling up the bus tub with our dirty plates, which I'm happy she took the plates, however when I mentioned that her tub was leaking, she said oh it's fine and leaked all next to our table and my mom. It was disgusting, unprofessional, and disrespectful. I work in the industry and cringe at any of my employees doing that. With the bland recent menu and the support staff service I don't know if I'll be back for a while. not sure why bussers are carrying around a bus tub for bussing tables that are active. just pick up the plates and bring them to dish? id like to add that though our server was kind, we received our dinner and had no silverware or napkins, and had to ask for them. We were also charged for a soda water from the gun which I have never in my life been charged for. for the amount of money it cost to eat out I would expect better service all in all. It was nice coming here because there's several lakes for sightseeing from the car. It was around 5:30-6 on a Saturday, and to sit outside on the patio would be a 1.5 hour wait which sounded excessive given the location of this restaurant. We said inside instead, but the outside has a nice vibe to it. I really enjoyed the "Spritz & Giggles" drink with aperol; the honey is a nice touch. We shared the PEI mussels (no picture included), which were about a 3/5, the coconut curry broth was OK. However, the menu said it came with ciabatta bread (bread is typically served with mussels), and we weren't served any; when I asked for bread, the waitress looked at me confused and brought back 1 single piece of bread. She obviously didn't know what I was talking about, but at that point I just let it go. I surprisingly liked my pork milanese with ravioli; I was questionable of the dish but everything was good pretty well. The pork breading was a little thick, but it was crispy and the pork wasn't too dry, so I liked it. My boyfriend got the shaved steak sandwich and it was also OK. It would be nice to come for drinks and small bites if you can get a seat outside. read more

I've been to this restaurant four times since moving to the area. Each has been more disappointing than the last. Tonight we went for dinner. The food was average at best and over priced. Drinks were also overpriced. We're not occasional diners. We eat out at least 3 times per week and frequent everything from casual eateries to higher end dining. The service was also terrible. BLI is so cozy in the winter time. But the food and service today and during our past visit was so disappointing. I tried to order a cocktail, but they were out of the syrup. I tried to order a soup, but they were out of that as well. I ordered the kale salad, which came out as spinach with no kale in sight...maybe they were out of kale? My husband ordered a fish dish that was missing a side of charred kale that they didn't even try to replace with another vegetable. I get that times are tough, but can't believe we walked out paying $70 just to be shorted like that. read more

You can't beat the setting of this restaurant. Nestled right on the lake, you can literally hear the waves washing up with you eat. I love the retro tables and chairs on the patio and the outdoor bar with nautical decor. Staff is super friendly and attentive. The food is good and there is a lot to choose from. Such a shame. The place is so cute and the service was so fast but the food was not very good. The best thing we ordered was the truffle fries. It was a nice portion size. My husband found the fries to be over cooked. I ordered an espresso martini and at first I thought they must have given me the bottom of the espresso pot because there were powdered coffee grounds floating on top. Very gritty. Apparently that was a garnish. It wasn't in the description of the drink and they were kind enough to make me another without the grounds. My gluten free pasta dish looked like the noodles had gone through a violent fight. The pasta was broken up and in shards. It wasn't pleasant to look at but tasted OK, not great. I followed that up with a dessert which was a GF cookie ice cream sandwich. Again it came out super fast like everything else. It's just that it was brought out on the smallest plate with a spoon. Think tea cup saucer. The spoon was no match for the hardness of the cookie and the ice cream went splaying out the sides onto the tablecloth. I had to ask for a bigger plate and a fork. I used my husband's knife to try to cut through the cookie. It was hard. Not frozen, just that hard. I literally had to stab the middle(numerous times)to get the knife to penetrate the cookie so I could cut it. The good news(?) was that we were in and out in 1 hour!! I was so disappointed. I really wanted to like the place it was so cozy inside and our waitress was really nice. Lastly I got extremely sick but I know the risks of being a celiac and eating in restaurants. They did have a disclaimer on their GF stuff so that is entirely on me. read more

My husband got stuff from the "smokehouse" section of the menu and it was fine he said. I tried the cornbread and it was DISGUSTING; absolutely no flavor. BLI Strikes again......This place is midway down the drop of a roller coaster. The service was excellent, atmosphere was excellent, food was miserable. This is their "chicken parm sandwich", whoever approved this clearly didn't taste this prior to giving the ol thumbs up. The bread is cold, chicken clearly warmed up in a microwave (abnormally hot) and the marinara sauce is as bland as a greige living room. Literally zero flavor, hell- throw some salt in the mix and it would make it tolerable. Birthday dinner failure, couldn't even eat half of the sandwich it was so bad. If you're going to charge a premium for bar food at least have someone taste the food before making it to the menu. $150 bucks to feed 4 people with awful food is a joke. Please sell this place to someone who cares or at least hire a corporate chef that can actually cook and cares about the food they're serving. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in to get a giftcard for a Christmas gift and let me tell you 20 stars out of 10 on our entire experience. We were greeted by Chad who was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable with a smile then we were blessed with Jenna the sweet sweet bartender behind the bar who served our beers with a smile so we had to try the food and let me tell you the new chef knows his stuff too. The food was out of this world. We definitely will be back. It's not everyday where you run into a fun amazing place that has customer service down to a T. We can't wait to go back!! I've been wanting to check out Bostwick Lake Inn for a while but wanted to take advantage of the awesome patio, and after one of the first warmer days, we finally made it! We ordered the wings (smoked and delicious!), the olive burger and the roasted pear pizza. The burger (for the cost) was a bit on the smaller size, which was kind of disappointing. While it was good, I wouldn't probably order it again. The pear pizza though was delicious! I definitely could have finished the whole thing just because it was so good, but decided against it. My favorite though was the chicken wings. Our server did not hesitate to recommend it to us so I knew it was worth having. I typically don't love deep fried wings and to find smoked wings locally is great! However, I was a little disappointed on a few things - the parking was confusing, there's a lot of spots but people can't seem to follow the lines and a lot of signs saying if you parked somewhere you could get towed. It's not clear if areas are for Bostwick Lake Inn or not. Another is that our server did not come back to refill our waters at all - it was a warmer day and I would have appreciated the water to go along with our meal. We had to flag her down to get our bill and I don't feel like that's the best thing. I do want to go back and check out a few other items that people have recommended and for the lake view and patio, definitely worth a shot! However, a bit far if you're not in Rockford. I've driven by Bostwick Lake Inn countless times but I honestly don't think I've ever been there. Nate and I met my parents there for dinner recently and had a good experience. We arrived right around 6 pm on a Tuesday and I checked the waitlist online and it said there was no wait. I was a little confused, because the entire parking lot was completely full. We weren't really sure what to do, since there's no obvious other parking available and no street parking anywhere, so we just sort of made our own spot and crossed our fingers. My dad had to do the same. When we went inside, I noticed a sign that said something along the lines of, "don't park in front of the antique store next door, ask about additional parking and our shuttle" so it seems like they have a solution for this. Just be aware that parking is limited! There was plenty of open seating available when we arrived so we got a nice booth near the big windows. The view is really nice and we got to see the sunset. I had hoped we could sit outside but my parents preferred inside. They have a really nice deck that I'd love to check out in the future. Not sure how late into the season it's open, but I did see heaters and people were out there in late October. We ordered the Brussels sprouts to share and they came out quickly. It was a huge portion so definitely enough to split between the four of us. Our server was sweet and very polite. I ordered the meat lover's pizza and Nate got the shaved ribeye sandwich. Our food took a little bit to come out, but by this point it was super busy. Also, it was incredibly LOUD inside, like I was struggling to hear my parents talking across the table loud. My pizza was good - a lot of toppings, decent sauce that wasn't too sweet, and the crust held up nicely to all the toppings. However, the shaved ribeye sandwich was so good! The bread was soft and fluffy and the meat was plentiful and super savory. I loved it. There was a bit of heat from the fresh jalapenos, and the crinkle fries were super hot and seasoned well. I would definitely order this next time! I enjoyed the meal, but really the noise level made it pretty unpleasant at times. I'd try to go at an off-peak time in the future. read more

Tonight was a beautiful Michigan spring night. We got a two top outside by the railing overlooking the lake. The people watching on the board, fishing and swimming entertained us while we waited for food. It was unfortunate that it is spring so the hugs are hatching. the bugs loved our particular table so the staff was kind enough to bring us a special candle also known as a Citronella candy for the table. They attempted to make us comfortable and we appreciate that. I enjoyed lemon cheesecake martini while Jeff had a rum and coke. I was very impressed with the Martini. Even the table next to us asked what I ordered. Jeff and I split the beet and asparagus salad. I am not a big beet fan but was presently surprised at the ratio of condiments to salad. It was refreshing. We added the blackened shrimp. Blackened shrimp is a little on the spicy side. Definitely messaged. You had to pull the tail off but it was worth it. My partner and I tried this restaurant for the first time last night. It was a busy Friday evening, the first day of autumn so we expected it to be busy. Surprisingly we were seated inside without a wait. They had a band playing on the deck and since the weather was warm for a late summer evening, lots of boaters were enjoying the water. Our waitress was friendly but you could tell they were under-staffed. She had tables both inside and outside so could see her running back and forth. The inside was quite dark, without overhead lighting, only fans. They had candles on the table but they weren't lit. Our food arrived pretty quickly. We both ordered a hamburger with chips. Unfortunately the burgers were very dry and had no flavor. They had lots of "extras" you could add on for an additional price ($1.50+), my partner added mushrooms but they were served on the side, not on the burger itself. They also were dry; I'm not even quite sure how to make dry mushrooms...The kettle cooked chips weren't any different or better than a bag of chips you buy from the store. I didn't take a picture of my food. But for two basic burgers and water, it was $45. The waitress asked if I wanted pickles on my burger, we both said sure. Then on the bill there was an $1 up charge for them. I have no issue paying extra for something but to charge me a dollar for TWO pickle slices is ridiculous. Our waitress was overly busy, we didn't get refills on our water and she only came back when I asked for ranch and to give us the bill. We ate our (dry) food, paid the bill and left. We might try them again in the future but for now, we'll have to give them a pass. I gave this a 2 star review because our waitress was working her butt off so we understand this was a back-of-house issue rather than front. *oh and apparently there is some contention with the parking lot based on the massive sign above the entrance. I will never go back! The waitress forgot our food many times, then when it was finally delivered it was cold. I ordered the fish and chips and the fish wasn't even warm. I took a bite out of it and I couldn't manage to eat it cold. So I asked them if they could remake it. The waitress touched it and said "absolutely, let me have them remake that for you" When she came back she gave me the SAME fish that I took a bite out of and spit out and she touched. You could see the bite marks and the spit out piece. I asked her if the kitchen double fried it to heat it and she told me yes. HOW UNSANITARY for other guests. That's absolutely disgusting. I'm a super clean person but who know what else that oil has touched. What if someone had covid, or hand foot mouth, etc. My friend didn't even want to finish their food. We were completely grossed out. We were just done eating at that point. I would give BLI 5 stars for ambiance and 3 for food. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, a peach and bacon pizza with no onions and a burger with no onions. Our drinks were very good but all of the food except the Brussels sprouts came out wrong. They sent out a pepperoni and banana pepper pizza.... Not even close to peach and bacon. We ended up being there very late and got home an hour late to the sitter while we waited for the right food. read more
