This was a complete disaster! I am not a regular at Rose's. While I generally like the food, I have found the service to be much slower than most restaurants in Grand Rapids, including others in the famed Gilmore Collection. But I have friends who like it and that is why I ended up there tonight for dinner. The setting, as many others have commented, is delightful. But, unfortunately, neither the setting nor the food could compensate for the abysmal service this evening. We were seated within 10 minutes of our arrival, and greeted by a pleasant server named Mike. We ordered wine and soon after ordered dinner. A burger and sweet potato fries for one, a chicken wrap and pasta salad for another and the Mediterranean salad with salmon for me. And then we waited and waited and waited. After more than an hour we received received a portion of our orders. The fries were cold, the burger over-cooked, and the salmon never made it to the table. My Mediterranean salad, which is listed on the menu at $14.50 consisted of about 1oz of arugula, some sliced radishes, tomatoes, and about 2 tablespoons of roasted chickpeas with a few orange slices. I've seen larger quantities topping a sandwich! I never did receive the salmon. After complaining to our server my friend sought out the manager. She told us the kitchen was experimenting with some new recipes and she appreciated our feedback. She told me that price on my Mediterranean salad was high because of the cost of ingredients. She said that a number of large tables tonight impacted the kitchen, which was why the service was so slow. At least one other table near me went in search of the manager and several people in that party never did receive the dishes they had ordered. The manager gave us a full credit for the meal (which was the right thing to do) but it will be quite some time before I return to Rose's. While the setting IS lovely, one expects a basic level of quality and service, which was completely absent this evening. read more

this place has some of the best food i've ever had. it was perfectly cooked, the seasonings were like 11/10, and it was perfect. the view was spectacular, and the customer service was excellent. i was greeted with waitresses and waiters smiling actual smiles, and it wasn't that long of a wait for my food. not to mention that the food itself was very visually appealing. it was a very comfortable environment and i'm glad that i decided to come here today. read more

We absolutely love Rose's! We ended up sitting at a table near the bar this time when we were here. The service was great from start to finish - my husband enjoyed the enchiladas and I had the special pizza of the day. Otherwise, he has enjoyed the tuna, I love their Mac & Cheese - honestly, you can't go wrong with whatever you order. Overlooking Reeds Lake, Rose's restaurant is a historic site and great dining experience for a date night out or family visit. The food is primarily American fare and consistently good. The food was great,(I ordered the peasant salad and my son ordered the wood fired pizza) and the overall atmosphere was great and we had a great time. They also had great root beer. My husband took me to Roses for lunch today for the first time. We chose to dine in the heated porch. It was so cozy and warm in there and overlooked the lake which was a beautiful atmosphere. Excellent. My wife had the tornados gorgonzola and I had the tuna. Both of us thought our meals were outstanding, right down to the sides. We each had a dessert. She had the carrot cake and I had the peach bread pudding. The bread pudding was made with canned peaches (peaches are out of season). My fiance and I have spent more time in this restaurant than any other in the nearly 5 years we have been together. Rose's has an excellent balance and selection of quality food and beverages at very reasonable prices and sits in a wonderful location with lovely ambiance for any occasion. A few items I would recommend: Cranberry Turkey Sandwich, Fish and Chips, Grilled Mahi Mahi Sandwich, any of their pizza's and my personal favorite... Blackened Red-fish Tacos... which sadly is no longer on the menu.... so Rose's, if you're reading this... I would very much appreciate you adding that back to the menu! read more

I woke up thinking about Rose's mahi mahi sandwich. This is not an unusual culinary obsession, but it just so happened that today it was my turn to pick the restaurant for lunch with Mom. Sadly, since the last time I was able to indulge my mahi mahi sandwich desire, the menu changed. No mahi mahi sandwich! Unfortunately, as a person who doesn't eat meat, there were not a lot of good lunch options. I settled for the angel hair pasta with chicken and pesto, minus the chicken. My mom got the same thing but with chicken. For some reason, we were expecting a warm pasta dish (granted it was on the salad list) but no. It was cold and incredibly bland, and I'm left with dreams and memories of the perfect fish sandwich. Two stars because the service was great. read more

We ate here on our way to Grand Haven based on a recommendation from a friend. It was good, but I would not go out of my way to go here again. Had the crab cake, pesto salad and a reuben. Everything was good, but nothing was "wow". Wait for the outside seats. The view was the best part of the place...... plus the AC was too cold, but that seems to be the norm in all MI restaurants. read more

We've been enjoying Rose's for many years, and it has become our traditional place for Saturday lunch. The menu is remarkably extensive as well as varied: from snacks and appetizers to full entrees. Salads and pasta dishes are our favorites. The waitstaff is always friendly and efficient. Even in winter the covered patio is warm and comfy with a cheering fire going in the fireplace. The waits always seem to be quite long for dinner, yet we've always found a place in the bar and chosen to eat there instead. A bit pricey but the food has always been great. This is our favorite place to go when we need a relaxing night out. The classy service, GREAT food, and beautiful atmosphere on Reeds Lake make it fabulous. Plan on a 30 minute wait to get seated when the weather is nice. Definitely try the root chips and goat cheese apps! They are greatly flexible with accommodating allergy needs. One of my all-time favorite places. Love the history of the place - my dad used to hang out here when he was a kid and it was an amusement area. We came a half hour before close. Had a long drive and it was a trek to find this spot. We came hungry and ready to spend money. There were people in the kitchen and food was being served but they took one look at us and said the kitchen was closed. It was obvious they just didn't want to serve us. It was late when I arrived so I can't comment on the lake, nor the outdoor seating. I ordered the Bruschetta appetizer and salmon for the main course. The Bruschetta taste was nice although it was swimming in balsamic vinegar so it had to be eaten rather quickly before it turned soggy. Before I could finish the Bruschetta the salmon arrived. I really didn't appreciate the preparation at all (it has since been removed from the menu). It was supposed to be broiled salmon on top of couscous. The couscous was in some kind of creamy sauce and the salmon was topped with a mushy reduction and more sauce. The crispiness of the salmon skin was lost in overpowering cheesy cream. I think the recipes are well intentioned but just not pulled off in a manner the compliments the food. read more
