We absolutely love Rose's! We ended up sitting at a table near the bar this time when we were here. The service was great from start to finish - my husband enjoyed the enchiladas and I had the special pizza of the day. My husband took me to Roses for lunch today for the first time. We chose to dine in the heated porch. It was so cozy and warm in there and overlooked the lake which was a beautiful atmosphere. Overlooking Reeds Lake, Rose's restaurant is a historic site and great dining experience for a date night out or family visit. The food is primarily American fare and consistently good. I woke up thinking about Rose's mahi mahi sandwich. This is not an unusual culinary obsession, but it just so happened that today it was my turn to pick the restaurant for lunch with Mom. Sadly, since the last time I was able to indulge my mahi mahi sandwich desire, the menu changed. No mahi mahi sandwich! Unfortunately, as a person who doesn't eat meat, there were not a lot of good lunch options. I settled for the angel hair pasta with chicken and pesto, minus the chicken. My mom got the same thing but with chicken. For some reason, we were expecting a warm pasta dish (granted it was on the salad list) but no. It was cold and incredibly bland, and I'm left with dreams and memories of the perfect fish sandwich. Two stars because the service was great. read more

We ate here on our way to Grand Haven based on a recommendation from a friend. It was good, but I would not go out of my way to go here again. Had the crab cake, pesto salad and a reuben. Everything was good, but nothing was "wow". Wait for the outside seats. Excellent. My wife had the tornados gorgonzola and I had the tuna. Both of us thought our meals were outstanding, right down to the sides. We each had a dessert. She had the carrot cake and I had the peach bread pudding. The bread pudding was made with canned peaches (peaches are out of season). My fiance and I have spent more time in this restaurant than any other in the nearly 5 years we have been together. Rose's has an excellent balance and selection of quality food and beverages at very reasonable prices and sits in a wonderful location with lovely ambiance for any occasion. A few items I would recommend: Cranberry Turkey Sandwich, Fish and Chips, Grilled Mahi Mahi Sandwich, any of their pizza's and my personal favorite... Blackened Red-fish Tacos... which sadly is no longer on the menu.... so Rose's, if you're reading this... I would very much appreciate you adding that back to the menu! read more

Atmosphere and service was excellent! I ordered the Salmon which was extremely fishy tasting. I told the server my concerns and ordered the chicken salad which was mediocre. It comes with banana bread which has a fake banana flavor similar to a gas station banana muffin. Disappointing meal!! read more

We've been enjoying Rose's for many years, and it has become our traditional place for Saturday lunch. The menu is remarkably extensive as well as varied: from snacks and appetizers to full entrees. Salads and pasta dishes are our favorites. The waitstaff is always friendly and efficient. Even in winter the covered patio is warm and comfy with a cheering fire going in the fireplace. Even though I have been here a few times, I have yet to eat in the dining room. The waits always seem to be quite long for dinner, yet we've always found a place in the bar and chosen to eat there instead. A bit pricey but the food has always been great. One of my all-time favorite places. Love the history of the place - my dad used to hang out here when he was a kid and it was an amusement area. We came a half hour before close. Had a long drive and it was a trek to find this spot. We came hungry and ready to spend money. There were people in the kitchen and food was being served but they took one look at us and said the kitchen was closed. It was obvious they just didn't want to serve us. It was late when I arrived so I can't comment on the lake, nor the outdoor seating. I ordered the Bruschetta appetizer and salmon for the main course. The Bruschetta taste was nice although it was swimming in balsamic vinegar so it had to be eaten rather quickly before it turned soggy. Before I could finish the Bruschetta the salmon arrived. I really didn't appreciate the preparation at all (it has since been removed from the menu). It was supposed to be broiled salmon on top of couscous. The couscous was in some kind of creamy sauce and the salmon was topped with a mushy reduction and more sauce. The crispiness of the salmon skin was lost in overpowering cheesy cream. I think the recipes are well intentioned but just not pulled off in a manner the compliments the food. read more

We visited Rose's for my mother in law's and son's birthday in January. We started out with the calamari, most excellent. My wife had a calzone which she proclaimed very good and looked tasty. My son had the macaroni and cheese, also delicious. My mother in law enjoyed her Reuben. My bangers and mash was one of the best things I have eaten in a restaurant in quite a while. I've been to Rose's many times over the years, and I feel it's going a bit downhill. The past two visits, the servers have been very slow and hard to hunt down when we've needed them. The soup wasn't hot, the fish was way too fishy (we sent it back in fact), they were out of certain items, and overall it's just overpriced (except the $1.99 happy hour which you can't beat). Saturday my three sisters and I took my mother to Rose's for her 94th birthday. It was wonderful. We tried two appetizers and each had a different lunch selection. All of us were VERY pleased. The food was extraordinary and the service superb. As it is winter here in Michigan, we got to watch ice fishermen and ice skaters enjoying the sunny, blue sky day. For the first time last night I was able to go to what I thought would be a great place to eat in Grand Rapids, MI. I was right. The food was really very good and the portions were large enough to fill you up. However... the service was terrible. Our server only once came back to the table to check on our party of 5. The coffee was like luke-warm dishwater and very weak. Worst of all was the fact that we had to wait for over an hour just to be seated. Parking was so limited that we had to park nearly two blocks away and walk in the cold night air. Then to stand for 30 minutes in the entry way before being told we could sit on a couch in another room while waiting was offered and of course drinks were then offered too. The servers seemed to be in a competition as to which one would get to present the bill so they could earn their tip. I would go back just because of the quality of the food but certainly can't recommend it for the service. Very disappointing to say the least. read more

Went here 8/8/17 for first date and both were amazing! I had the Salmon over risto with a pesto sauce that was to die for! I didnt lick my plate for obvious reasons but I would have!! My lady friend had a pesto type salad that got a thumbs up and it must have been good since she took the balance to go. You don't box up salad unless it was awesome. The wait staff and valet guys are first rate!! Total class operation all the way around. I have tried their wood fired pizzas before and they are the bomb! Lauren the hostess was terribly rude, from the first encounter when she rolled her eyes at our "huge" party of 6 and informed us of the wait of 40 minutes as if to just deter us somewhere else since the wait was so terribly long, to only giving us 4 menus, for 6 adults and acting surprised when we asked for more, to the middle of the meal (she asked if she could take our baby's high chair from us because there was a big party that needed one).....ummm so did we!! read more

I have always been a fan of Rose's, but their recent rise in prices is excessive, in my opinion. I have a gluten allergy and they have very few options for that dietary restriction. The few options they have are bland and expensive. The best option for gluten-free is pizza, but the charge for gluten-free crust is $6, which is absurd. The restaurant claims this is the actual price per crust per pizza, but that must be severely inflated because every other restaurant in the surrounding area charges $1 or $2, or doesn't up-charge at all. As someone dealing with an allergy, this is very frustrating, as this is something I cannot control. The atmosphere is great, but their lack of gluten-free options is disheartening, especially when so many other restaurants in the area do a great job accommodating. read more
