We visited Rose's for my mother in law's and son's birthday in January. We started out with the calamari, most excellent. My wife had a calzone which she proclaimed very good and looked tasty. My son had the macaroni and cheese, also delicious. My mother in law enjoyed her Reuben. My bangers and mash was one of the best things I have eaten in a restaurant in quite a while. I've been to Rose's many times over the years, and I feel it's going a bit downhill. The past two visits, the servers have been very slow and hard to hunt down when we've needed them. The soup wasn't hot, the fish was way too fishy (we sent it back in fact), they were out of certain items, and overall it's just overpriced (except the $1.99 happy hour which you can't beat). Saturday my three sisters and I took my mother to Rose's for her 94th birthday. It was wonderful. We tried two appetizers and each had a different lunch selection. All of us were VERY pleased. The food was extraordinary and the service superb. As it is winter here in Michigan, we got to watch ice fishermen and ice skaters enjoying the sunny, blue sky day. For the first time last night I was able to go to what I thought would be a great place to eat in Grand Rapids, MI. I was right. The food was really very good and the portions were large enough to fill you up. However... the service was terrible. Our server only once came back to the table to check on our party of 5. The coffee was like luke-warm dishwater and very weak. Worst of all was the fact that we had to wait for over an hour just to be seated. Parking was so limited that we had to park nearly two blocks away and walk in the cold night air. Then to stand for 30 minutes in the entry way before being told we could sit on a couch in another room while waiting was offered and of course drinks were then offered too. The servers seemed to be in a competition as to which one would get to present the bill so they could earn their tip. I would go back just because of the quality of the food but certainly can't recommend it for the service. Very disappointing to say the least. read more

Went here 8/8/17 for first date and both were amazing! I had the Salmon over risto with a pesto sauce that was to die for! I didnt lick my plate for obvious reasons but I would have!! My lady friend had a pesto type salad that got a thumbs up and it must have been good since she took the balance to go. You don't box up salad unless it was awesome. The wait staff and valet guys are first rate!! Total class operation all the way around. I have tried their wood fired pizzas before and they are the bomb! I can't imagine how anyone gives this place less than 5 stars. read more

Lauren the hostess was terribly rude, from the first encounter when she rolled her eyes at our "huge" party of 6 and informed us of the wait of 40 minutes as if to just deter us somewhere else since the wait was so terribly long, to only giving us 4 menus, for 6 adults and acting surprised when we asked for more, to the middle of the meal (she asked if she could take our baby's high chair from us because there was a big party that needed one).....ummm so did we!! read more

I have always been a fan of Rose's, but their recent rise in prices is excessive, in my opinion. I have a gluten allergy and they have very few options for that dietary restriction. The few options they have are bland and expensive. The best option for gluten-free is pizza, but the charge for gluten-free crust is $6, which is absurd. The restaurant claims this is the actual price per crust per pizza, but that must be severely inflated because every other restaurant in the surrounding area charges $1 or $2, or doesn't up-charge at all. As someone dealing with an allergy, this is very frustrating, as this is something I cannot control. The atmosphere is great, but their lack of gluten-free options is disheartening, especially when so many other restaurants in the area do a great job accommodating. read more

Rose's is a fun, lakeside view type of diner. The food is great! I definitely would recommend going there.

Had a great lunch here recently. To start, the root chips are delicious! I enjoyed a Cranberry Turkey Sandwich for lunch. We had a larger party and the servers handled it all very well. They were very friendly and helpful while we were ordering. We ate outside on the covered patio. My only complaint would be that they didn't have the fans on out there and it was getting pretty warm. read more

I am definitely a fan. If you go, you must try the root chips! That Goat Cheese Foundue is where it's at! I am kind of over Gilmore Collection restaurants in a sense I feel like they charge more for the name and losing a little quality. Rose's is definitely an exception to that. They can be pricey depending on the item, but there is not a lack in quality. Two (weak) reasons why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars.....Restaurant is always packed in the summer so service can often get slow (as any packed restaurant), as well as the last 2 times I've ordered a burger medium and comes out well. Had lunch yesterday at Roses and was thrilled to see the Classic Caesar Salad back on the menu. However it was very disappointing when brought to the table. I was expecting a plate of very crunchy romaine but instead was given a plate made up of small chopped romaine swimming in dressing. Very disappointing. We were recommended by a local hotel, and arrived in time for the happy hour, which as a good deal and quite a variety. We had burgers, I had the turkey burger, was very good, my wife's was not quite done enough even though she had ordered medium well. We were able to sit out by the boat docks and had a very nice view. Would definitely go back if we are in the area. read more

On 7-13-14, my daughter's 20th birthday we went for the first time at this restaurant. The wait staff were extraordinarily freindly and knowledgeable. We ordered the calamari fries and devoured them. My husband got the rueben and said it was OK. My daughter and I split the margherita pizza - very greasy and the fried perch dinner. Again very greasy. I guess we should've orderd what the waiter Sam suggested - the turkey sandwich. We didnt order that as it was just as expensive as the perch dinner. Oh well - lesson learned. Doesn't have to be summer to enjoy Rose's warm atmosphere. Attended 12/27/2014 a dreary gray Saturday evening. Two roaring fireplaces and smiling attentive service from our wonderful server, Brittany, made it a great evening! Combined w the excellent food and drink she turned our evening into one of the best dining experiences we've had in weeks. I was beginning to despair about all our GR restaurants!. We began with the scallops appetizer which we both loved although 6 pieces would have been nicer than 4 medium size for the price. The rustic oven fresh bread with olive oil and grated cheese was delicious. I had the signature potato crusted walleye with an unusual side of roasted beets, parsnips and Yukon gold potatoes. I loved it all. My companion had the spicy chicken enchilada which Brittany fortunately suggested we spice up w a side of jalapeno's since my friend has impaired taste buds.. We finished with the tiramisu, coffee and Rose's caramel corn. I have never been disappointed when eating at Rose's. read more

it was my boyfriend and Is first time here. had there parmesan chicken, for 15$? more like 5$ it was dry and tasteless. asparagus wasn't cooked or seasoned. had to put salt on my entire plate to make it editable. the only thing good about the plate was the mashed potatoes and even those had no taste. Roses has a beautiful property right on Reeds lake and it has been around for a very long time. This means a lot of older folks are in their a lot, but it also gets really packed with the younger crowd during happy hour. Make sure to make a reservation on weekend nights it can have very long waits. My only complaint really is the menu I know they try to do seasonal but I was a huge fan of their asian Ahi tuna salad last summer it was amazing and really unique with the mango sorbet! Then they took it off the menu and I was disappointed but they has the asian chicken salad which was similar and almost as good but then they took that off the menu too! And My Dad's Favorite for a while was the crispy beef salad but that was taken off the menu as well... Last time I went it was really hard choosing what to get because all the things I liked to get there weren't on the menu anymore, so I ordered their featured salad and asked for blue cheese instead of feta, the salad had red onion, strawberry, mango and a sticky chardonnay dressing but I didn't really like the mango in it, it wasn't fully ripe yet, but it was and okay salad. I really liked Rose's when they had the dishes that I enjoyed but now that they aren't on the menu the only thing I ever count on being on the menu are the root chips which are really god in the chipotle aoli but I wish they would bring back some of those dishes they were so good! read more

My husband and I recently moved to Grand Rapids and are always looking for new restaurants to try. A couple of friends had recommended Rose's but we kept hesitating to go there because we heard that it was expensive. We finally decided to indulge and it was definitely worth it! We waited an hour just for the two of us, but the view is beautiful so we didn't really mind sitting there enjoying a cocktail. The bartender recommended the Rose's Lemonade and it was good but very strong. I felt myself getting a little bit tipsy after only the first few sips! I ordered the salmon with artichoke risotto and my husband had the mahi mahi. Both were delicious. A bit overpriced, in my opinion, for the portion but Americans are so used to huge plates of food now a days I guess it just seemed small in comparison. Our waitress was perfectly attentive and we didn't have any trouble getting refills on drinks. We shared the apple crisp for dessert and it was very good. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. The atmosphere was very friendly and homey, but just fancy enough to justify the price. read more
