Instagram brought me here, where a quesadilla offers charred ramps and much more (standard ramp warning, the season will likely be over before you read this). We were in the East Village and looking for a place to have drinks and dinner. We stumbled upon Rosie's on 2nd Ave. What a fun time! Place was hopping (at 2pm on a Sunday!) It was a nice day so all the outdoor tables were taken but their glass doors were all open. Modern interior with colorful decorative touches was bright and cheery. They make a great margarita (I recommend Rosie's margarita - mezcal, tequila, dry curacao & serrano lime). Alex was a delight as our server. I ordered the huevos tirados from the brunch menu (scrambled eggs, black beans, salsa, queso fresco & tortillas) that were amazingly fresh and delicious. This was a perfect night to drop in on my way to a play at La Mama. Cold but but too cold, and at 6:30 still enough spots to get a seat. Sat by myself at the counter and ordered the enchiladas Suizas without sour cream, and a Pacifico. The meal was generous and tasty. Found out about this spot in the Happiest Hours app and so glad I did! The service is great, workers are friendly. The ambiance is perfect for a date night or after work drinks. I tried the enchiladas, chicharron and churros. The chicharron was not the type I am used to, but it was good as an appetizer and had great flavors. Went here for a friend's birthday dinner and it was my first time trying Rosie's. My other friend's have already been here and it was recommended! We made a reservation and were seated right away. The ambiance is really nice, the restaurant is pretty large and the space is set up perfectly. As for appetizers, the guac and chips were great! The chips aren't too salty which I enjoyed because sometimes the chips overpower the guac but not here! The queso fundido was okay, the top layer was crispy and tasty but then the rest of it was kind of bland? For dinner, we all got birria taco's. My friend's stated that there used to be 3 so they were shocked that it only came with 2. We also ordered some taco's - they were okay but not worth $7-8 for each taco. As for dessert, we got the order of churros which were a good way to end the meal! Not too sweet and the sauce that came with it is just the right amount of chocolate! I've long wanted to try this restaurant because every time we've walked by it's been busy and people seemed to be enjoying it. This particular Saturday afternoon, we walked down Second Avenue thinking that we hadn't eaten Mexican food in a couple of months, let's have it for dinner tonight. About 2 hours later we decided to go to Rosie's and I made a reservation online. We arrived early and were seated promptly. We'd requested outdoors, probably won't do that again. The shed on 2nd Ave is nice, but the chair closest to the sidewalk was kind of on a slant, and due to the table legs, I felt that I really couldn't get close enough to the table. Plus the chairs are deep and I'm short, so leaning back was definitely not an option! That said, there were plenty of other seats and the indoors was open to the outside; it wasn't so uncomfortable that we needed to ask for different seats. Others near us seemed perfectly satisfied. And the seating didn't interfere with my enjoyment of our meal! We started - so trite, I know - with guac , chips and salsa. A nice bowl of fresh guac, a decent amount of good chips, and 2 salsas, 1 spicy, 1 I thought was sweet but spicy-averse husband thought it had a kick to it. Anyway, really good! For entrée, my husband ordered the vegetarian enchilada. Kudos to our server, Miguel, who immediately realized that the food runner was holding a chicken enchilada and apologized to my husband. Within a few minutes, he got the vegetarian one to the table. Muchas gracias, Miguel! I had the tuna tostadas, an appetizer dish, along with the calabaza taco, and we shared a side of the platanos. Everything, everything, was delicious! Messy for me to eat but we got some extra napkins. And I got a beer, which I almost finished (not the best drinker, lol). Such a fun spot on Bowery! Smells like tortillas and the music is Spanish pop/rap. The food was good - I liked the chips and guacamole, wasn't a huge fan of the salsa. The chips are freshly made and they taste fantastic. I got the chorizo, al pastor, and pesacado tacos. Chorizo was spicy and oily, al pastor was yummy with the pineapple, and the fish was light and summery. I liked all three but would only need two next time. The enchiladas were yummy with a side of rice and beans. Our waiter was fun and got food out quickly. I would definitely come back here with a group as they have bigger tables and lots of options. For some reason, Rosie's bar is a place of choice when celebrating something amongst our circle of friends, and I see the reasons why. They offer Mexican comfort food and decent cocktails. The last time we were here was when I celebrated my naturalization. We had a couple of pitchers of spicy margaritas and guacamole to share. I amused myself with Pescado And carnitas tacos, it was filling especially if you intend a light meal for dinner. My friends ordered carne asada that they enjoyed as well. Nice place for Sunday brunch. Took a couple of Texas transplants who were craving Mexican food. So easy to make a last minute reservation. Dining room was fairly empty when they opened at 11, but quite full when we left brunch. The brunch menu is available via a QR code. Paper menus are also available on request. Choose from a selection of appetizers, huevos (eggs), large plates or tacos. My daughter and I loved the tetela. A black bean filled masa triangle is topped with goat cheese, hoja santa, steamed broccoli, and pickled onions with a poached egg. Served on a base of pipan verde and salsa macha, the runny yolk just ties the flavors together so deliciously. Pipan verde is a blend of pumpkin seeds, peanuts, sesame seeds and leafy greens with a blend of spices. Definitely get this one. My nephew got a trio of tacos. The chicken enchilada suiza served with beans and rice was also yummy. Love the cute interior and the tortilla making station in the middle. Service was great. Rosie's is a local staple to the East Village. It's been around for years and has truly stood the test of time. Having really enjoyed our visits in the past, we came for a late brunch this past weekend and were surprised as the service, food, and prices were not up to par. Margaritas were fantastic: both the frozen classic and regular classic on the rocks were made well, priced well, and perfectly balanced and boozy. Guacamole with chips and salsa: decent, good, but nothing really special for $17 and overpriced. Tacos: we tried the shrimp, pork, steak, chicken, fish, and cauliflower. The chicken was the most flavorful, and the pork was close second. But overall, while decent, they were fairly bland for $5-8 each per taco. The most jarring aspect of our visit: the service. Our server was attentive, but food came out so quickly that the runners literally pushed our side plates out of the way while we were still enjoying our guacamole, so they could place them directly in front of us, which was extremely awkward. We had planned to order a second round of margaritas, but didn't even have a chance to relax and finish the first round. The restaurant was busy, but not packed - yet we felt rushed. I don't know if this was just an off day, but based on this visit alone I wasn't really impressed - TL;DR, great margaritas, decent, OK food (nothing special), but overpriced and rushed service. read more

My friends and I came for brunch, and I was looking for something on the lighter side. I decided on the ceviche de comedones, which came with 10 pieces a shrimp butterflied over jicama slices with cucumbers, served with a cilantro coconut sauce on a plate. I highly recommend this dish if you are looking for something on the lighter side, in terms of both stomach-filling and budget wise. (Sorry, the ceviche never made it to pictures.) I also had an Al Pastor taco; the meat was a little dry, but well grilled, a little smoky and quite tasty. My friends partook in a pitcher of margaritas, which they said were deceivingly refreshingly sweet, but really pack a punch at the end when they finished the whole pitcher!
