If you're in New York and don't stop at Lupe's, that's between you and your life choices. While the guacamole doesn't have the same pizzazz as a high end Mexican restaurant, it is exactly what I want. I know what it's going to taste like. And I absolutely love it. Same with the vegetarian supreme burrito. Same with the other many dishes on the menu. They don't change the recipe and hence the flavor. It's consistent. The beans are authentic L.A. and sometimes I crave them. I so appreciate knowing that the quality and consistency remain. I know to come here off hours to better enjoy my meal without being rushed. It might not be your place. It might not hit the right spot on your tongue. But you won't walk out thinking you didn't just have a very good and quality meal. In a world where so many small joints disappear before we can call them home, it is so nice to have this place to look forward to. It was a decent meal but I went to the bathroom before leaving and was disgusted. The bathroom looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. The light switch was dirty. It's in desperate need of a paint job. There was no toilet paper holder so I question the cleanliness of the rolls of paper. One was partially wet. If the bathroom is this dirty, I have to ask how well are they cleaning the rest of the restaurant. We started with chips and salsa. It was a bit spicy but also a bit bland; it could've used some more cilantro. had the beef burrito colorado. It was a decent burrito, very filling. Good spot for a crowd to dine. I was there with a group of people on Halloween this year and had a late lunch. We did call ahead but they were able to seat 14 of us at a spacious table. The interior is nice. It feels like an authentic Mexican establishment. The music wasn't too loud, and the service was excellent. I got grilled fish tacos, and they were good. I did find their food to be bland, but they do have an assortment of hot sauces available. Would've been nice for the fish to have more flavor. The tacos have rice and black beans with them also. I'm always exploring Soho for new places to enjoy authentic Mexican food. I discovered Lupe's one cold January afternoon walking and saw the bright blue facade and festive lights inside. I mean it's January and we are fighting the winter blues. For me, festive lights, strong Margarita and a good meal are logical ways to fight it I've eaten numerous times at Lupe's and have tried different entrees and appetizers from good salsa and chips to egg burritos. The egg burrito was delicious: fluffiest scrambled eggs with cheese tucked in a burrito with a spicy red sauce, rice and salad. The meal was a lunch/ dinner combo, very filling. The enchiladas with spinach and cheese with salsa verde were also equally delicious. The salsa they make is kickin and the chips are fresh. Tho only weak spot it their horchata; too watery and not enough cinnamon. Lupe offers plant based and vegan entrees as well. There are traditional options such as tacos and Rellenos. They also have an extensive cocktail list. The vibe is very laid back, intimate space and outdoor seating. Thus, if you are in need of kicking those winter blahs, Lupe's is definitely what the doctor ordered. read more

The ambiance was nice for being a Latinx restaurant in New York. The restaurant was well decorated but was not spacious. It was easy for me to hear other people's conversations. The service was excellent as the waiter was able to meet all our needs. I ordered a Super Burrito and I was shocked to see that my burrito had the rice and lettuce on the outside. From previous experience, I was expecting them to be on the inside and I felt that it decrease the flavor of the meal. My table also ordered Chips and Salsa along with Guacamole. A quick walk from the spring st stopped - everything was as I remembered - low lit, not too crowded or loud, and locals only. Them the chips came - they were better than I remembered. Mr. Robot filmed a pretty iconic scene here so I've always wanted to try it out. The place isn't too busy usually that you can't get seated but there is definitely a crowd most days - especially post-work. They have a great happy hour deal (I think it's $8 drinks and free, unlimited chips/salsa). We were sat immediately on a Thursday evening around 6 pm to catch the happy hour and order food. Then, we ended up waiting for our food for almost 90 minutes since they forgot to put in our orders twice. During the entire time we were waiting, our table wasn't checked on so they didn't realize anything wrong and we had to flag down the waitress for water and status updates after we realized they never put in our order. i found a hair in my food last week, and contacted the restaurant directly. they didn't really seem to care and told me "things blow into the food sometimes, that's just what happens", which i respectfully disagree with. if you can't control what "blows into the food" you should not be operating a restaurant. i'm not one to escalate and just wanted a refund for 1 of the 3 plates i ordered. But after a week, 3 phone calls and no refund or any kind of alternative solve, it seems they're too incompetent to even do that. avoid this place. food isn't great, cleanliness is not there, and they don't seem to care about their customers. lots of other top notch places in the area you'd be better off visiting. read more

This is a Tex Mex place on the west side of Soho. It is not a fancy place and is more of a mom and pop place. It reminded me of the Blockheads restaurants in terms of atmosphere and quality. The main thing they offer here are enchilada plates or burritos. We had several of both with different meats - beef, chicken, shrimp, pork, or vegetarian are all offered. The flavor of the meat, rice, and beans on our plates were all good. There is definitely a lot of care taken into seasoning the meat. Portion sizes of everything were on the small side though. Had we only ordered the enchiladas suizas and the cheese enchiladas, our review would be 4 or 5 stars. However, the colorada enchiladas and the beans were completely void of any flavor. We went to Lupe's with a party of 5 last weeekend. We were seated near the window on a cosy table. The spot was really cold as the heating doesn't reach it. When we left we were kind of freezing but found out that the heating does heat the rest of the place. Staff is really nice and the owner hangs out in the spot, too. The bathroom is tiny and more or less taken care of. The food was great. I had a quesadilla which was delicious and filling. While they offer all the staples of Mexican-American cuisine you would expect like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and tamales, this does not disclose the diversity of their menu. Their service is fast and friendly and they offer extensive outdoor seating that is comfortable and spacious. Chicken Tamales (4/5): Their tamales have a very authentic taste and are well presented. For the price, the portion could be larger and some pieces of chicken were a little dry. It comes with a side of rice and refried beans, both of which are above average. Super Burrito (4/5): Their super burrito is a little pricy and it is pretty big but not massive. I ordered mine with beef, rice, beans, guacamole, tomatoes, and cheese. Their flour tortilla tasted fresh as did the rest of the ingredients. It was filling but I wish it was a little bit larger. It comes with a side of beans and a simple salad. Any of their burrito options are solid, but if you want something big, I recommend ordering the Super Burrito. Good Mexican food is surprisingly hard to find in NYC. I think Lupe's is well above the average. Their chips, queso, and guacamole are all great, as are their rice and beans, simple items that are often overlooked at local Mexican restaurants. As a Colorado native raised in Texas, I struggle with finding really good Mexican in NYC, and Lupes is as close as I have gotten this far to the real thing you find out west. We stopped into this quaint Tribeca cafe and took a seat on their comfortable covered patio. We started with an order of chips and salsa, which could have been better, and two of their generous margaritas, which were heaven on earth. She had the classic Mexican breakfast plate, with scrambled eggs, potatoes, rice, frijoles, and tortillas, whereas I absolutely had to try the vegan chile verde, served with tortillas, rice, and frijoles. It wasn't Colorado green chile, but close enough for Manhattan. We ended our meal with a couple Modelos, watching the downtown street traffic go by.
