After a long day getting pampered at the salon on the Lower East Side, we were starving. All the stylists suggested we grab tacos here. I was skeptical at first I kept thinking, "Can you really find authentic Cali-style tacos in New York?" Turns out, you absolutely can! This is the real deal. Came here to watch game 3 of the 2025 World Series. It was packed with dodgers fans but I was able to snag a table. The food was phenomenal. Got the lengua, cabeza, and carnitas tacos. My favorite was the lengua--incredible. Drinks were great too. Get the jamaica margarita. Vibes were excellent. There were TVs everywhere and the staff were friendly and prompt, even though it was so crowded. They did a great job of keeping everyone happy, even when we went into extra innings. I was looking for a quick meal in the EV and stuffed myself with these delicious tacos!! I loved how the salsa didn't overpower the inherent meat flavors in all the tacos. The lengua was super duper juicy and tender!! The beef flank was also tender with a different spice profile, but I did wish for a higher fat to meat ratio. The barbacoa had a nice lamb flavor without being too gamy. The carnita was well seasoned! I also enjoyed the integrity of the tortilla and how it held the meat and juices together. Tacos were tasty as they were affordable! Loved the Mexican/LA themed decor. Staff were friendly and sincerely apologetic after messing up the bill. I've barely had any Mexican food in NYC that has compared to LA but the tacos here were pretty good quality I'm not gonna lie. I have been a loyal customer for many years. This is a good place to get a solid, cheap meal with good service. The restaurant is nicely decorated and feels cozy inside. They always have a movie playing. I have never once had an issue here with the food or service. The prices are more than reasonable and even cheap compared to other places in the area. They have two levels, and you have to take a staircase to get downstairs. The entrance has two small steps you need to walk down to get inside. They also have bar seating and two bathrooms. Service is always prompt and the food comes out fast. You get free chips and salsa to start. I've never had an alcoholic beverage here so I can't comment on those drinks but my agua Fresca here is always good especially the Jamaica. If I'm in the area and need something cheap, good and consistent, I come here. read more

Late night restaurants are not as common as they once were in NYC. So when I'm feeling snackish, Taqueria St. Marks is a gem! The decor is music, movie and Mexico themed. Upon entering, your choice is the bar or dinner. There are a couple of booths and tables upstairs, along with more seating on the lower lever. The servers are quick with attention and smiles. Unfortunately, other than Jarritos, I don't enjoy the drinks here. We stuck with the regular margarita, because it's way better than any of the flavored, but still very 'meh'. And the aguas fresca left me wanting. Especially the pineapple! The complimentary salsa and chips are always gone by the time our mains arrive. Are we just that hungry, or are they that good? I'm not sure. But honestly, I think I started to come here just for the fish taco! The crispy fish and cabbage just sit wrapped marinating inside the tortilla. Pretty spacious as there is a downstairs part too which is nice. However, I can see it getting pretty loud, especially during sports as people were clapping and what not. So definitely not the best for an intimate vibe. Margaritas were fairly cheap around $9-10 but they weren't that strong. The queso fundido was great with the tortilla or chips from the chips and salsa. I didn't really enjoy the enchilada, maybe the sauce wasn't my thing and verdes might be better. Really good food for a good price! I came here for dinner and ordered 3 tacos: Steak, pork, and fish. The steak and fish tacos were a little spicy, but I loved them. They were both delicious, and the steak one was my favorite but the fish was still a close second. The pork taco was good too. Their chips and guacamole were also delicious. Great, affordable Mexican food in the area that stays open till midnight! We came as a group of 4 and had to wait for about 15 min. The food here is reasonably priced and packed with flavor! Chips and salsa for the table are on-the-house. My go-to is the carnitas tacos, but I tried the lengua (beef tongue) one from my friend recently and the meat was actually really tender! Definitely don't shy away if you're looking to change things up from your usual order. They also charge extra for hot sauce fyi! Note that the bill will be a tad cheaper when paying with cash and reflect the menu prices. In terms of service, they're a bit slow. The classic margaritas are actually pretty good and were also recommended by the server. I also had the hibiscus margarita as well, but it wasn't as good as the original. Called in an order for pickup-Chicken Enchiladas. They were so, so. Not much flavor for the chicken. It came with rice and beans, it would've been nice to know the beans were frijoles and not black beans. The frijoles were very soupy, not what I'm used to. It was a five minute walk to pick up my order, and when I got to the entrance, the front door was flooded on the outside and the inside, so if you order for pick up, make sure the place is not flooded. Good spot if you're looking for Tex Mex!! We asked the guys working and they said the owner is from Cali, but he has a Dallas Cowboys flag hung up, so it counts. When I saw refried beans in a picture online I knew it would satisfy my craving for Tex Mex (I'm from Texas), and I was right! Great margarita (my friend said it was the best she's had in the city), chips are delish and so is the salsa, flautas and taco were good, and rice and beans were perfect. Tasty Mexican food with no frills, my go to neighborhood spot! Setting: Looks small on the outside but the inside is quite spacious. I love the fun decor and the blend of Spanish and English oldies playing. In the ever expanding list of Mexican restaurants I can count with two hands the ones that play authentic Mexican music and it makes me happy that this is one of them. Drinks and food: the margaritas are a must have - good balance of flavor and alcohol. The chips and salsa are my "pulse check" on a Mexican restaurant and this place delivers, I always end up asking for a second serving - so addicting! Chicken tostada is my go-to when I'm homesick for Mexican food. The steak taco is one of my favorites because of the flavorful meat and the kick you get out of the salsa - be warned it's spicy! The picadillo taco is very nicely seasoned and cooked with the vegetables - each bite will leave you wanting more. We used this spot as a chance to venture from the traditional "steak, chicken, chorizo" tacos and tried lengua, cabeza, and suadero. WORTH IT. Our favorite was cabeza - tender and rich in flavor.
