Carmen from this Ross location was ridiculously rude & condescending when I politely stood there like an idiot waiting for someone to help me in jewelry counter for a while when I pressed the button & her seeing me press it & being there at the counter not assisting a customer. When I politely asked her if anyone was coming she look annoyed & made & blurted I had to get in line to "see jewelry" & someone from the registers would help me. So I did exactly that, stood in line, waited my turn because there was only one cashier (who was very kind) & when I asked the cashier she was genuinely confused & said they don't do that & sent me right back to Carmen for her just to end up having to show me what I wanted who was still at the jewelry counter. I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding an incident involving an employee, Melanie which I believe constitutes a violation of their comprehensive Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. I observed the following behavior/actions from Melanie that appear to contravene the established standards of conduct: - Melanie was really rude. It was around closing time, she told me I need to check out or leave. My husband and I head to the check out line. There was a long line so while he stands in line I go get the shoes that I was going to grab. Melanie comes back and says you can't shop, I said my husband is in line and she rudely says you have to stand with him, you have to stand with him, you have to stand with him multiple times. She could have stated everything in a better manner. I believe that these actions not only undermine the integrity of the workplace but also have the potential to affect team morale and the overall environment of the company. I trust that the company takes such matters seriously and will investigate this issue appropriately. I am willing to provide any further information needed. The employees scream "WELCOME TO ROSS" at you in the most angry tone you could ever imagine, they don't call for more checkers when the line gets long, and the checkers take zero care in putting glass and breakable items in the bag. Associate 2579113 literally threw a glass perfume down hard into the bag that was on the lower surface of the counter and she seemed irritated even more when I asked her why she's throwing down breakable items. After that I decided not to buy the perfume because it sounded like she broke it. Similar things have happened on several occasions and it's sad to see such a reoccurring pattern of terrible customer service. Be kind to yourself and don't shop at this Ross. read more

This store closes at 11pm on Tuesdays. At 10:51pm associate makes announcement that the store is closing now, bring your items to the front for check out. i keep shopping along with others. 2 minutes later another announcement, this one more forceful, "the store is now closed, registers are now closed." Then she says, "Floor associates, clear your areas, walk any customer to exit now!" I look at my phone, it's 10:53pm! A gal walks up to me and says "We are closed, you need to leave." I show her my phone with the time, and say, it's not 11pm yet. Associate says, "We are closed!" I say, " But the hours that are posted on your front door says closing is 11pm." Associate says, "No it doesn't!" This girl looked around 17 years old. I kind of laugh and say, "Yes it does, go look!" Then an older gal walks up and says, "The registers close at 10:55, the store closes at 11pm" I know that is not true. It's incredulous to be treated like this. I will also say that every employee was Hispanic. I am Caucasian and not welcomed. I am a seasoned shopper, I spend at least $250-300 monthly at Ross. i like the later hours, but am never treated this way at Home Goods. This La Mesa Grossmont store is staffed with one race, if you are not Hispanic, don't recommend shopping here. read more

This Ross isn't the best to be honest. Stock for items are always low. A lot of items I find damaged or with stains or torn. I have never been a fan on the part where at check out they call another customer up while the prior customer is still at the register and hasn't even finished paying with their belongings still on the counter. I get that the staff have timing but that isn't necessarily a great tactic. Service over quantity is always better. How is an extra few minutes going to be such a negative thing? I'd rather wait longer and have great customer service then be rushed simply because your staff are being timed to hurry up! That puts them under stress and causes customers to think they aren't being very nice. This is 100% managements fault. But I will say that the staff here are not very pleasant either. Seems they are always worried about stats then service. Don't even hand you the receipt anymore just say have a great day and you have to grab it. Don't even finish ringing items up before they ask you how your going to pay and keep saying you can put your card in before I can even completely get all my stuff on the counter. It's a poor way to run a business. Especially considering it's such a large store. read more

I've always shopped at Ross stores and never have I had such a bad experience. ---- This cashier was so rude and unprofessional.The cashier rang me up but the card machine wasn't working and I always pay via Apple Pay at Ross since i don't like to carry my purse in stores as I usually leave my cart unattended. I try paying but the card machine is blank, it doesn't seem to be turned on. My transaction doesn't go through so she tells me to try again. I then let her know the card machine is blank and that it doesn't appear to be on. She looks at me and just says "well on my end it says it's an invalid account, so do you have an actual physical card?" Her attitude seemed annoyed but i still tell her nicely no it's in my car but that even if i go get it that i don't think that's the issue - the machine isn't even on or showing a total or tap to pay icon, nothing. She gives me an annoyed look like she didn't believe me and I commented "if you want, you can look on this side and check the card machine and you'll see what I'm talking about everything is grayed out or i can go get my wallet real quick" she finally checks the actual machine and realizes what I've been trying to tell her and she starts yelling at her manager Jessica to help her because the card reader machines not working. Her and Jessica start talking while I'm still standing where she left me and finally just looks up at me and says oh they're going to ring you over here and doesn't help me carry any of my clothes or products she rang me up for and just gives my transaction over to a new cashier. As I'm bringing everything over and placing everything at the new cashier, The new cashier doesn't even acknowledge me. they're both just side talking thru the whole transaction. as I'm bagging my own items (because they didn't have bigger bags and didn't bother to bag my items for me or acknowledge me) i hear the original cashier girl say "I know like you don't have to be passive aggressive, I can't stand customers sometimes" and shakes her head and we make eye contact and laughed in front of me. Like no I'm sorry, you're just unprofessional and you could have at least had the decency to wait until the customer leaves to start talking about them like most ppl do. LIKE IF THATS THE CASE THEN DONT WORK AT ROSS GIRL. I simply came to shop and leave, not to have to deal with your mess of an attitude. This store customer service is not good at all. I came to this store since I live in this neighborhood but is a mistake to come here. This store is always messy and unorganized. I was in line and o it two cashiers were helping customers and one just closed her station and went to put the size color thingies on the hangers instead of helping the customers in line. I asked if she could help us and she said that the other only cashier can do that, so I questioned her if that was more important then to help the customers in line and she said "oh well, I have to do this" incredible their poor customer service. Love this location. Has a great collection of merchandise and the staff is very friendly. I visit this store at least twice a week.

The line at check out was pretty long due to everyone come here to do xmas shopping, and yes they all try to avoid the mall, so here maybe cheaper and less crowded. Everyone waited patiently until they get to the very end just to have the check out girl cut off the line, so that she could run to back with another employee to train him on cleaning or whatever, then as she came back, she randomly picked a customer from the return line. This Ross is ok. I like the one on Lake Murray a heck of a lot better, but this one is closer, so I end up here more often. It's the end of the holidays and the staff seemed pretty over things in general. I have worked retail, it's a hard and thankless job. I can only imagine what the staff has been through this season in particular. Hope things get better for us all! I like to buy my cat poop cans here. They have small metallic step on trash cans here. Usually 6-7 bucks. They don't hold up well, but they are hella cheap, so I can change them without feeling pained about throwing the old ones out every 6-ish months or so. read more

Yahoo, I stopped in this enormous Ross to see if I could finds a couple of T-Shirts for sports wear and just hang around the pad. Long story short, they were aware their card machine was having issues all day but still had me run my card numerous times, stating that their machine wasn't working & my card wasn't going through. I ended up paying in cash. Today I woke up to see all those transactions went through so I called them & THE MANAGER told me to contact my bank because they approved it. She was pretty rude about it... Lady, YOUR STAFF said the machine wasn't working, so how about you train your staff better & fix your machines!!! Worst customer service... I don't understand why this place gets a low rating but I definitely love Ross. I always find something here. I actually bought some black jeans for $10.99 and found a nice sweater for $9.99. My daughter found a Troll scrapbook for $9.99. Good deals here. They had so much cute clothing. This is the only place that I can buy clothes that actually fit me. It's a great way to save money if you are on a budget like me. I saw so many cute purses such as Michael Kors, Guess, Calvin Klein and so much more. I almost bought a purse but three items were enough for me. Better deals on purses here. It's discounted compared to original price outside. When I got to the line, it was long. But the only reason that I am giving Ross a 3 stars is because once I walked into a pillow aisle with pet beds and pillows but all of the merchandise was thrown in the floor so I couldn't even get my cart through the aisle. I ventured here for the first time looking for decorative things, they have a good selection of art frame boxes, and random house decor. They certainly are well stocked on every type of item, but with every Ross, you may or may not find one or more of the same item. Stopped in on an early weekday morning, as fate would have it. Mini-me 2.0 was shrieking in the back of the car, so I had to stop and tend to her needs. After a brief bebe-stop, we went to Ross because I'm all about paying less that full retail price for stuff. Got a friendly hello from the security guy and the gal working by the dressing rooms was nice too. The store itself was clean and organized during my morning visit, but some clothing aisles are crammed way too close to get a cart through easily or allow for two way traffic. Found some things for the house and some clothing items, but not everything was unavailable in my size. It's hit and miss for bargain hunting, but worth the effort when you find what you're looking for. Retail therapy complete. read more

I worked at TJ Maxx as a teen, so I know what the drill is for a fitting room attendant. Customer hangs up items. Attendant counts them, pats them down to ensure customer isn't hiding extra items within the clothes. I tried on 8 items here today and regretted it. The attendant took her time patting down each item, looking inside every one, each pocket. She checked that stuff more thoroughly than a security guard checked my purse at a Padres game. I understand that the store told her to do it this way (probably) but it was a slow process. When I came out, she was counting someone else in. I hung my go-back items on the rack. I held up the two items I was taking. She didn't acknowledge me. I hung up the number and then saw another Ross employee wheeling away the cart I'd parked there, with the non-fitting room items. I stepped out and told the employee that was my cart. She looked at me without saying anything. The fitting room attendant told me to come back so she could count me out. I showed her I had two items. She had me come all the way back. She counted the items again. She told me that's how Ross likes her to do it. She looked inside everything again, though my totals matched. She asked where my number was. I told her I hung it up. I was very unhappy at this point and weighed leaving, but I was buying my husband some ties (Michael Kors! Silk! $10! such a deal) so I figured I might as well wait a few extra seconds. I felt like they thought I was a criminal. I guess that's what happens when I shop in a sweatshirt. Could it be that Ross's new policy is, "Treat every customer as a potential criminal"? I have never been made to feel this way before. If you want the clerk to thoroughly search the garments both times, then have two clerks so it will be quicker. Checkout line is inefficient, they have too many people doing things like taking customers' carts while they're in the fitting room instead of cashiering. The cashier did a good job. I used to love coming here because one it's convenient it's close by to where I work 2 before customer service was great idk if they hired new people but let me tell you their customer service sucks! No work ethics! You have one who stares at you without even acknowledging you. I was standing in return line for a good 7 minutes being passed by customers who are purchasing the audacity to tell me returns are only made at register 1 and 2 when the person in register 1 was only taking purchase while I stand there looking dumb! I like this Ross location ! It's located next to Hobby Lobby and a small Walmart. It's a fairly new store in San Diego County, if not the newest. There are still some significant vacancies in the shopping center, but everything is nice and new-looking outside the store. The parking lot is newly paved and striped and is more than adequate for the stores. Inside the store isn't bad, either. It is probably the most organized Ross I have shopped in. The racks are well stocked and organized, but you know how customers can be. The place is spotlessly clean. How long it remains so is in the hands of its managers. This store has a very well-supplied home furnishings area, with lamps, wall hangings, end tables, small appliances, dishware, silverware, and so on. I didn't need any luggage, but the selection was fantastic. The lighting seems to be better at this store, and just seems brighter in here. It's not quite as busy (yet) as other Ross locations, but given its excellent and highly visible location on Grossmont Blvd, I think business will increase steadily. There will be checkout lines. That's the usual bugaboo of Ross stores. But, I've found the staff here to be friendly and courteous, and that makes up for a lot of things. I'm a fan of this location, and probably won't be shopping at the others. read more

This it's probably my favorite Ross stores. They have a really nice selection that seems to be a little bit better quality than most of the Ross's. Their dressing rooms are cleaner than most of the Ross's. The only thing that throws me off a little bit as I hate their parking lot, and I hate that I'm greeted by a security guard as soon as I walk through the door. Purchased $150 on Saturday night without trying on and needed to return half. I went there around 10 pm on Sunday with my receipt and about 1/2 the stuff I got last night. No one was in line so the young cashier acknowledge me and she began my return. From across the registers another girl speaking in Spanish began talking to my cashier and suddenly she said "oh sorry I'm gonna switch and help you across the way on a different cashier". I obliged and began gathering my stuff and followed her to the new register. She began scanning the items to begin my return. She wasn't completely done before the one l girl that had made us move began speaking in Spanish again to my cashier. I asked what's going on and she said I'm the manager and none of these items are ours. She started scratching the tags and threatening to go view the cameras. I was kinda confused and honestly embarrassed. I asked the cashier if they are serious and she said it's my manager saying I can't return. The "manager" left abruptly with my receipt. All my items were scattered from one area to another while the manager kept repeating no I don't authorize return these are not on the camera. She left again then spoke Spanish to another cashier. 5 min later she came back and told another cashier to return 2 my items. Then the " manager" comes again and tells her to return what she wanted. All this crazy lasted 30 min. The manager is either on drugs or has an illness. Abusing the customers and making up stupid stuff then back pedaling. Twilight zone.
