Had the worst experience with this manager. I stood there for about 5 minutes without being acknowledged, even though it was clear I was waiting to speak with him. My pants were accidentally left with the security tag on, and I simply asked if he could please remove it. I understand I didn't have the physical receipt, but I did have the payment method used for the purchase. Unfortunately, he was extremely rude and unhelpful about the situation. I ended up going to the Midway location, and the experience was completely different. The staff there were so kind and helped me immediately without making me feel like I was a problem. I really appreciate the Midway team for their excellent customer service. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about my experience with this manager. read more

This, of course, is not the fault of Ross but must be considered when describing the shopping experience here. The selection is typical for Ross. A few bargains, usually in odd sizes. This is a bad location for a Ross. No dedicated parking. If you do decide to come down here, you will most likely have to pay for parking somewhere or park at a meter but their hard to get especially if you come down on a weekend or during a padre's game. You're better off grabbing a Lyft/uber or taking the trolley and then walking the difference. This store has some good stuff but not worth me going out of my way to go to downtown. The staff is okay. As always, every Ross only cares about getting you in and out. Not manners or how to be polite. Pay and leave. God forbid their timer is over how quickly they need to get you in and out that the person at the counter doesn't even have time to grab their stuff and leave before you call the next person in the line. My cosplay pants were sadly falling apart due to it being old and the faux leather material was peeling horribly. It was bothering me so much that I decided to go downtown to get some new pants. The walk from Gaslamp to this location was not too bad. Some parts felt a little sus but it was broad daylight so it wasn't too bad. I found some longer gym shorts and it was only $8. The attendant was kind enough to let me come back to the dressing room to immediately change into the new pants I got! Security seems tight in the front. It seems like you must get eyeballed by security and you need to show your receipt on the way out. I told them that I'm wearing the pants I just bought and they were totally fine. This Ross was not the best in terms of shopping experience because I felt the store was a bit claustrophobic, but due to my unique experience of needing new pants immediately the staff was very nice about the whole thing! read more

Been here many moons ago but it wasn't as busy. This location doesn't have dedicated parking. If you drive here, be advised you'll have to pay to park on a meter or at a garage. It is worth the visit though. You'll surprisingly find things that are not available at other locations. So for the inconvenience, it has its benefits. The store itself is very organized not like the other two story locations that I've been to such as Vegas. The cashiers are friendly and work diligently to get people moving in and out of the store. Yes there are all sorts of sections and partitions to control pedestrian traffic but again, it's the times we're in - I understand they are trying to avoid theft. The selection is wide. They have tons of items on clearance too! I was shocked to find a Might Power Rangers Toy Sword for a fraction of the price that it's going for on Amazon! My son was happy when I brought it home to him and wouldn't put it down. If you're looking for name brand items, they have them too but keep in mind it's like trying to find a corner in a circled room. I'll probably be back again when I have time as I work Downtown and it's kind of fun going bargain hunting here... Not as cheap as thrifting but still challenging and exciting. Do you love it!? Honestly had no issues. This location has security and strict occupancy rules. Seems like they probably have a TON of theft issues when it was open house and people could just walk in. Stopped in for last minute luggage purchase to bring home all the SDCC goodies. Security gentlemen let us in after a brief wait. Got our stuff, then on exiting we had to show the lady our receipt before leaving. All were courteous and nice in general. read more

This location is pretty wild. There's very strict security at the entrance (I assume due to the neighborhood). And in line to pay in front of me there was a woman with an unlit cigarette hanging out of her mouth. The racks are pretty jam packed and close together, but I guess that means they pack in a lot of stuff. I always find some good stuff here, today I got a pair of sparkly sneakers for $40 and a 6 pack of crew socks for $8 (similar set on Amazon for $16). No pictures for this one, but I came in here for an umbrella, some birthday and Valentine's Day gifts last month and got almost everything I needed and then some. I've never been to a Ross's before and was surprised to see it's oddly similar to Marshall's or TJMaxx, they have literally EVERYTHING, but they're price point is a few dollars lower (competition is friendly for business!) I'm sure many people shy away from this location due to the area (many transients and shoplifters frequent this location) but it was organized for the most part and I got two out of three gifts I needed. Since this location is closest to where I work and home, I would definitely shop here again. read more

Surprisingly, the employees here were happy, albeit they will scream "NEXT!" Ross has everything from clothes, kitchen appliances, and food condiments and more! This Ross is located Downtown in the Heart of San Diego on C street. It has 2 floors with a elevator and stairs. On the first floor they have women shoes and clothes along with hygiene products, fashion name brand purses and electronic appliances. On the bottom floor is the men's clothes and shoes along with kids clothes and apparel, toys, seasonal items and kitchen houseware appliances. I was surprised with all the up to date men's apparel they have such as work out clothes and shoes. They also have a wide variety of food condiments such as olive oil, avocado oil, and pink Himalayan salt where all the prices are more then half off at a typical competitors store. They have beautiful picture frames, house decorations, and comfy bed comforters and pillows. Basically anything you are looking for at your typical department store I can guarantee Ross will have it with a better deal and price. Overall This location is great and the Security is on top of there game preventing loss and prevention and customer service always has a warm welcome. The best thing about the store is when you are checking out waiting in the line is where all the goodies are located such as candy, chips, drinks, and even Keurig coffee K cups! I think having a location in downtown near a trolley track is a big mistake for Ross, so many bad things could happen and already happened here. As I came in, they had security standing by the entrance checking people in, looks like a girl was holding up the line because she was arguing with the security regarding what looks to be that she's being banned from the store for stealing, and they cannot allow her in, but she forced her selves passing thru the security anyway, they then proceed to follow her and call the police at the same time, when I acted so surprisingly, the security said what do you expect it's a ghetto Ross. From the look outside, it is a two storages Ross with elevator which take you to 2nd level for men, kids, luggages, and other stuffs; downstair would be women and everything else. The store seems very organized, but they only kept everything in minimum stock due to all the stealing activities, so I cannot find anything I could buy from here except for the one I already had, it's cool to find out the security who can speak Mandarin Chinese fluently, he was talking to some customers and I overheard and surprised again. I hope this store could improve more, it's not a safe place to shop at night and finding parking is also hard. read more

The guy at the door was super rude and condescending, I walk in on my break from work, they have a bunch of stanchions and ropes kind of mitigting the flow of foot traffic now, which is annoying but whatever, and as I walk in, instead of just saying "Hi, give us one second and we'll let you in" He says "whoa whoa whoa there, let's just calm down and take a deep breath in. Just wait here and we'll let you in in a bit." I was confused, I walked in like I'd walk into any other store, just calm and staying to myself. I found his demeanor extremely off putting, rude, and it honestly pissed me off. I turned around and left without another word. I've been here twice. The first time was maybe 4 years ago. It's located downtown walking distance from Horton's Plaza. I came here a couple of weekends ago because my sister needed emergency jeans ha ha she spilled some beer on herself while we were at a brewery LOL. Parking is pretty much non-existent. You can park at Horton's Plaza and get validated there or there's also a parking lot across from Kimpton Palomar for a small fee. If I remember correctly I think this is a two-story Ross. They have a large assortment of shoes. It does get crowded like most Ross stores. It's your basic Ross brands and options but I like it. I just wish they had a parking lot so I could come more often. read more

I came here to buy my daughter a sweater and myself a sweater since we forgot our jackets at home. I actually found a couple of good deals. I found a Michael Kors red work pants for $8.99 and a pink hooded sweater for $8.99! I got them both along with my daughter's soft jacket that was $12.99. Wasn't on sale but I bought it for her. They had some good deals. They now carry makeup but not high end. The store is two levels. Women and shoes on the second floor and first floor is kids and men. I'm glad they have security here because it's located in the hood of downtown which a lot of homeless people hang out. Sketchy people hang around here. Literally bought sheets less than 24 hrs ago from Ross, washed them and put on bed today, when I noticed a slit in sheet. I just moved into my condo, so throwing away everything happens fast as I want my place rid of all bags/boxes ASAP. I did throw away the receipt and even went dumpster diving for it, because I know the rules. However, the Manager didn't even try to look it up, when it is clearly her store # on my credit card statement showing proof of purchase yesterday still pending (that recent). I know it is possible to match the credit card and print a new receipt (I have worked in Sales/Customer Service for over 20 years), but I did not want to make a scene. If you're expecting a decent selection, take yourself to Encinitas. This Ross consistently has the same product lines are always extremely long, wrapping around the inside of the store around 130 or two in the afternoons, and the lady in the woman's in men's dressing room is so loosey-goosey with your items, I know it's Ross and you get a great deal shopping there that's why I do so, but when I find a pair of genuine leather Stuart weitzman shoe for 79$ in your size you just have to but I'm highly disappointed at the way the product was treated, I guess she should've looked at the price tag and realize that it's not a $20 regular pair of shoes from Ross. This is one of the rare 2 story Ross stores I've seen. Located in what I would call the "wrong side" of the Gaslamp area in downtown San Diego, I would not recommend this place to any out of town visitors. The streets around this store is full of homeless people, beggars, and junkies. It's really a sad thing to see. The irony is that a couple of blocks away yuppies/hipsters/college kids/tourists/business people eat/drink/party the day/night away without a care in the world and these people are invisible. Besides the surrounding neighborhood, the store was messy and many of the clothing racks were in disarray. The one good thing was that I found an awesome case for my iPhone for $4.99. While I was there a homeless guy snatched a few items and bolted out the door. A security guard gave chase, but was unable to catch the guy. Went to Ross on my lunch break, bought several items. Long story short the lady took the tag and band off of the shoes and didn't put one of the shoes in the bag. She was busy talking back and forth with her colleague who was 2 registers over. I called the store first they said they didn't have it. Then they called me back to tell me they found the shoe and requested that i ( now home In Moreno Valley) drive back to San Diego to pick up the shoe that was left by the cashier. Now my other option is to wait for them to mail it, (regular mail) when they can. Never received call from district manager as requested either. Poor customer service. read more

At checkout I told Zuleica that I was disabled, had just had surgery, was slow, and asked her if I could grab something I forgot quickly. Did not even take half a minute. Zuleica said yes and that she would wait. I returned and Zuleica was assisting the next person in line!!! Zuleica proceeded to ignore me, told me she would not ring me out and refused service. I was shocked. Zuleica then told me I had to get back in line! In disbelief I shouted, "I am disabled! I want to speak to a manager." The manager ran over, shocked at the way I was being treated, rang me up and apologized for her behavior. I asked him if this is how you are trained to treat disabled people. He said no and he would talk to her. Zuleica is the RUDEST clerk I had ever experienced. Not only did Zuleica disrespect me and lie to me, Zuleica also laughed at me and mocked my disabilities. I told Zuleica almost FIVE times I was disabled and she laughed at me. I had my walking stick since I cannot walk independently due to a traumatic brain injury. WTF is it with stores like this that make people forget their manners? It's not like being a d**khead is going to save any more money on last seasons Nautica gear. Still... it never fails that I see someone being a total asshole to the employees when I come here. Last night I no joke saw a woman call a teenager behind the register "stupid" to his face. It's no wonder the reviews reflect staff with a bad attitude. I wouldn't give a f**k either if people treated me like shit on the reg, so I'm not going to complain about the service when I see how hard people can be. Ross is what it is...pretty chaotic, but can be rewarding. It's like a real life version of Where's Waldo only instead of a nerd in red and white stripes you're looking for Calvin Klein's at 80% off. At those prices I guess you can't complain about having to work at it a little bit, but still sometimes it's a tad annoying sifting through tons of quadruple XLs just to find your size. If you don't mind dealing with the grumpy people to save a few bucks, Ross isn't bad. I just have to take it in small doses. read more

I hate tattle-tales. I think there is a special place reserved in the inner sanctum of oblivion for them. Ross forced me to be a tattle-tale. For the first time in my life, I felt it was necessary to call and complain about someone's service. *Before I go any further, this store wins the award for the SMELLIEST fitting room I have ever encountered in my life. Trash was strewn all over the floor and it stunk to high heaven. It was BAD! It smelled like a homeless person abandoned their clothes on the floor and just left* I literally had the worst service in retail I have ever encountered in my life at this Ross. The rude cashier who "helped" me should never take employment that requires dealing with people ever again. I doubt anything was resolved other than this cashier getting a "stern talking to". Management seems to be very hands-off as far as I can tell. The manager I spoke to sounded very apathetic, and apologized with an "oh, Im sorry!" but I doubt anything actually came of it. She had no idea what employee I was referring to because she was in her office. of course. As I approached the line the male cashier says he can help me. There's still a woman standing at the register gathering her bags. He tells me about 3 more times that he can help me as he shoots dirty looks at this poor woman. Should I just hand my stuff over her head? I decide to wait until shes out of line and this clearly begins to bother the young kid. He immediately tell me that they are out of paper to wrap the couple of dishes I am buying without offering any alternative. Luckily the shirts I wanted to buy could wrap them up. I noticed that I didnt want one of the shirts and it was more than I initially thought. I apologize and say "is it cool if I take that one off?" He responds with a "No, That's not cool, actually". and mumbles something unintelligible. This surprised and perplexed me. Im standing there for a minute because I cant believe someone actually said that to me. It's so hard to hit delete? Did I not hear him correctly? I ask him if he just said thats not cool and he chuckles it off and mumbles something else. I just shake my head in dis-belief. Before the transaction is even over he is calling the next person in line. "Ma'am, I can help you here. Ma'am? MA'AM!" as he waves his arms. I couldnt even gather my stuff before the lady is right behind me. To top that off there are never any employees anywhere in the store if you actually need help. There's plenty of security giving everyone the stink eye, though. I will never go back to this place. I used to frequent it when I worked downtown but I promise to you I will never go back! read more

Being a huge Ross advocate, I like to try them all out. Sadly, this is the worst store I've visited, even by Ross standards. The location is bad...its in a shady part of town with lots of transients and people that have below-average people skills, to put it nicely. The store itself seems pretty small for a Ross, though it is laid out over 2 stories with I haven't seen before. The men's section is downstairs, which also seems to be where the really kooky people hang out. On my most recent visit, I privileged enough to encounter a 70 year old man, dressed in a gentleman's hat and trench coat, reciting Russian-sounding blurbs into a non-existent walkie talkie. He circled the entire men's section several times, sometimes stopping directly across the aisle from me...maybe he liked the shirt I had picked out. Another qualm I have is that the dressing rooms are all upstairs, meaning guys have to bring their stuff upstairs, try it on, and go back down if they want to try more. Not convenient. There are plenty of other Ross stores in San Diego that I will absolutely opt for over this store, and I suggest you do the same. ===== Location: Iffy at best. Best Ross by far! Haven't had to sort out the size small shirts with the size larges or the size 6 shoes with the size 8 shoes! This place is always organized in the clothing and shoes section. We've always stayed upstairs but went down to the lower level recently looking for duffel bags and luggage. I was very pleased to have found a cute, medium, deep polka dot floral duffel bag for $20 and a Kensie floral vacation bag for $30! I've also bought a distressed oversized Jean jacket here for $27 with tax included. Quality items and security/cashier are always nice. This has to be one of the cleanest Ross' I've been to thus far. read more

Came here to walk around and do some shopping after eating dinner over at The Yard House with a friend. I really like Ross stores, even though they are all completely unorganized and I usually end up with bruised toes after getting stepped on and ran over by screaming children or angry women just trying to find a great deal on something fun. This one is huge. There are two levels and each section actually has a nice selection. They even have a nice sized pet section, rather than just a half aisle of dog beds. Kind of fun. Unfortunately, I didn't end up purchasing anything because well.. after a big dinner, I had to go to the restroom after about 20 minutes of browsing and picking things out to purchase. And they have NO public restrooms available! Yikes! I tried.. I begged. Nobody let me. So we didn't end up coming back. Kind of a huge inconvenience for nobody on that block to have a public restroom. It's too bad. My friend was going to On Broadway and had to get a decent outfit in order to get into the club. I told him that he's wasting his time and money and that he should just hang out with me tonight instead of bumping and grinding with douchebags all night.
