However, today there was only one other person in line before me and there were multiple registers open to assist customers. The lady who assisted me was actually working the Returns desk and she was delightful! She was friendly, and very pleasant to work with. I really enjoy shopping at this Ross location in Vacaville. The store is always well stocked, has plenty of staff available, and is usually busy -- which says a lot about how well it's run. That said, I do want to mention the restroom. I normally avoid public bathrooms, but sometimes you don't have a choice. Walking into this one felt uncomfortable and unsanitary, and honestly a bit scary. I truly feel for the employees if this is also the restroom they have to use throughout their workday. I hope the store can invest some attention into improving or updating the bathroom, because otherwise this is a great location. read more

I've been to my share of "Ross Dress for Less" clothing stores in various cities and this was my first time at its one and only location in Vacaville. Usually this is where you can find merchandise that is brand new at deep discounts. Everything from shirts, pants, socks, shoes, bedding, candles, home decor, sunglasses, luggage, wall art, cosmetics, and even perishables (coffee, syrups, cookies, etc). Located in a busy strip mall at Allison Dr. and Nut Tree Pkwy, this particular Ross store has been in operation for quite some time as the Yelp reviews date back to 2009. I came here during the afternoon of Saturday 6/17/2023 at 1:15pm. As expected, it was very busy but luckily parking was fairly easy to find since many neighboring businesses (JoAnn Fabrics and Burlington) are spread far enough apart. Normally I would give this Ross a two-star rating but I had to bump this location to a three-star rating. This is based on the selection of options with a ton of apparel that was available in my size. The entire store (men's and women's) had racks that were packed with merchandise. And during my visit, it was absolutely packed with customers from front to back. One unique thing about this location is that they have a self check-out. Well, sort of.. Basically there are dedicated employees that remove the security tags off of the merchandise then you scan your merchandise. This is the only Ross location I have seen this so I am guessing they will start implementing this in the future at other locations. I think due to the high foot-traffic that comes here, it helps expedite the process much quicker. With that said and done, this trip to "Ross Dress For Less" was actually a decent experience. read more

I am always greeted when I walk in by the security staff, which I appreciate. I love that there is self checkout now, with a teller who checks your receipts on the way out. It makes things move so much smoother, and cuts your wait time. The self checkout machines are easy to use also. I always manage to find something for a major deal. Always check clearance stuff! This place is really gross. I had to use the restroom and they used the new CA law of unisex bathrooms to convert one nasty bathroom to the unisex bathroom. The public no longer has access to the two gender restricted bathrooms. The one bathroom that they have, the door wouldn't shut all the way. The employee watching the dressing rooms told me that it was the only public restroom available. I had to go so bad that I ran in and prayed no one would walk by/in mid stream. I could literally see out to the store while on the toilet seat. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in 10 years. There's graffiti and scotch tape over the light switch. If profiling had a store, you'd get it at ross. Not once not twice but three times was I literally profiled here at this Ross. First time I was enjoying my mommy time had 2 carts full of items and the associates kept following me and watching me and told me they hope I'm buying all of the stuff. Why?! Didn't look or act suspicious. They were then told to count all of my items before I left the store. Next event happened months later when i went in to grab a few things. They did the same and then as the clerk rang up my items another one stood in the distance watching and then all of a sudden came up and asked the associate are you sure these are the right price. Love this store for their variety but their service at the customer service counter where they do returns and purchases can be shotty, depending on who's working that day. Most of their staff is cool though. I kind of feel bad for this one particular female that seems to always be in a funk. Hopefully she finds her happy place one day, or AA. When I asked for her assistance on grabbing a bigger size, her response was "I can't leave my station", it was understandable... then I ask if I can go grab the bigger size while wearing the pants I was trying on and her reply was "you can't"... so then I ask her if she could ask one of her fellow coworkers if they could assist me in getting me the pair of pants and she said "nobody can help you". Being so full from dinner we decided to just walk around Ross. Great location, seems like it's the only thing open in the area. This location is the one to go to when in Solano. WAY better than the Fairfield location! The racks are actually FILLED with clothes and of course at great prices. The store is neat, clean, and organized, which makes it easier for consumers to peruse the racks. The employees here are accommodating, which is a plus since the ones in Fairfield seem to be hiding most of the time. I went here to purchase a belt and after selecting several to try on, I was told by the employee that I wasn't allowed to take them into the dressing room to try on. When I asked for an explanation, I was told it was policy that accessories were not allowed in the fitting rooms. I asked for the manager who came over, but couldn't offer any explanation besides "Its the policy." I explained that I could not purchase the items without trying them on; the employee and manager both didn't seem to mind. I went next door to Burlington and found the same items and more. Plus the store was cleaner and better organized than the Ross store. Before starting my shopping at Burlington, I explained to the clerk what I had just experienced at Ross...and asked if I'd be allowed to try the items on-they assured me it wouldn't be a problem. And it wasn't. I was in and out in no time with two new belts. Ross just lost a customer, and will likely lose many more with their silly policies and demeaning of customers (in more ways than I care to describe here). Worst customer service ever! I would have given this place at least a 3 star service because the cashier was nice, but the manager in training, Lia, was not helpful or friendly at all! My mother and I asked why there weren't any sample or scratch n' sniffs on the perfumes and Lia told us that we're suppose to know the scents before buying it at Ross. We told her that we've never smelled them before and asked if we can open it there to smell and she said no that we couldn't. We then asked her what the return policy is just in case we didn't like the scents and she told us that we couldn't return it which is funny because it doesn't state that anywhere on the back of the receipt. She was so quick to say "Bye!" so rudely to us when my mom was telling her that she can return the items if we weren't pleased with the items as long as it was within the return date and the items hasn't been altered. I will DEFINITELY be sending an email to corporate about their "Store Manager in Training -Lia". A few pointers from someone who's worked in retail for 15yrs and Store Manager background: 1.) Think before you give an answer to your customers. When we asked why there wasn't any samples or scratch n' sniffs, the answer should have been, "I'm sorry we no longer offer that. What ever we receive from the manufacturer is what we get and reasons why we give these amazing low prices. 2.) Don't say no right away! If you have a disgruntled customer, SHOW them the return policy. Go the extra mile, that way you know that you did everything that you could. 3.) Learn to listen and smile. Don't show that you're impatient and annoyed. Your facial expressions and tone of voice will show your customers how you feel about them. 4.) Ever heard of investing in a heat gun for repackaging items? Items can be repacked and still look brand new. If that doesn't work, you can always markdown the items since it's open boxed. I frequent this Ross and leave with a cart full every time! Yeah, it can be cluttered, but the more clutter, the more chance of finding something cool! It's Ross and not high end retail. I like coming here to find bargains. They have an awesome Loss Prevention guy that politely reminds people to wear a mask when they are at the store. He greets you when you walk in. He also does a guy good job of telling people the direction of the checkout line.
