This is one of those local spots that feels like your aunty from Hawaii made the food herself. Big portions, low prices simple recipes, and everything tastes fresh and comforting. Don't come here expecting aesthetically plated cuisine. This is where you go to GRUB if you are down for a mom&pop restaurant where the food tastes AMAZING. I keep going back for the Tomato Beef over rice but the Teriyaki Chicken is seriously next level. The chicken skin is crispy and the meat is juicy and tender. (Most places use dry chicken breast for teri chicken, but here it's flavorful and juicy!) The Kalua pork is great too, and the spicy Korean chicken isn't crazy spicy but it has a ton of flavor. Locals love it because the food is affordable, the portions are solid, and the chefs clearly take pride in what they're cooking. It really feels like a home style Hawaiian plate lunch. The service is good too! It's typically the same two girls working their butts off to deliver food and clear tables, so please remember to hook them up with a tip when you pay. I finally made it to the source of Aloha Specialties famous cornflake cookies! I didn't see any of them available sadly, but I wasn't feeling incredibly hungry and we had to lots to do to get ready for work. Next time! Tucked into yet another of LV's strip malls, it's the hours that have kept me at bay. They close at 3:30 PM which I can rarely beat based on the schedule I normally have. J got the much-loved pork cutlets with gravy with the Korean chicken special on the side. I had my requisite bowl of wonton min. J is never effusive about food so I won't know unless he mentions it later if he really enjoyed it. He's from Maui so I'm sure he's tasted the best. The wonton min I had edged out Aloha Specialties for the best I've tried (so far just these two establishments in the confines of LV). The noodles tasted fresher and the broth (which, let's be honest, is what Asian soups are about) was much better. I tasted a piece of J's Korean chicken and it certainly has a kick to it. Stopped by after dancing hula with my hula sistas. I've heard of Ross J's and glad I finally got to taste the food. I was told that they are the same owners as the Islander restaurant in The Cal 2nd Floor. The price point here is so much cheaper than others and the food is ono. I ordered the Menehune Roast Pork and Fried Noodles while my friends enjoyed their dishes. The roast pork was delicious. The Menehune plate is similar to a mini plate but to be honest, it wasn't really small. The meat was plentiful but the rice and mac salad is a smaller scoop from the regular plate. A Henderson hidden gem forsure! I had the pleasure of having lunch here with a friend a few months back and recently revisited for a solo lunch. The food is always good and fresh. My first time I tried the teriyaki chicken combo w/ rice and mac salad. This time I tried the Korean chicken and tempura shrimp combo w/ rice and Mac salad. Bomb! Food is always flavorful and the portion sizes are more than enough. Service is always professional and staff are nice. There is a bit of a wait whether dining in or competing a take out order so give your self sometime in between. The restaurant is usually busy during lunch hours but nothing too crazy. The food here is a joke! We ordered two meat Jun plates and one mixed plate. Meat Jun was chopped up burnt beef, of sorts? Check out the photo....and no we didn't eat anything, this picture was taken right after we opened our plates. There was no flavor but burnt beef, I don't think they know what meat Jun is maybe? Have been on the lookout for a Lau Lau as good as OHNO's in Waikiki long ago. This one looked like a reasonable candidate. I ordered Kailua pig Lau Lau plate with rice and Mac salad. I was so excited to try this place out being I'm a local. I had high expectations. Got the kalua pig and rice, spam musubi and a kalbi combo plate.... The kalua was all fat and mostly all cabbage. The 2 bites of kalua that were edible had a nice flavor. The musubi was just ok, Lacked flavor. The kalbi combo was so skimpy. 2 small slices of meat and the rest rice. This was recommended by a friend of mine. So when we was in Las Vegas on vacation we had to try it out. We are always seeking good authentic Hawaiian cuisine, especially the Mac Salad. We have heard that there is a line during peak hours, but luckily there wasn't much of a wait and we were seated. I had the Chicken Katsu with Rice and Mac Salad. It was very good and the Mac Salad tasted just like Hawaii. My wife got the Kalua Pig & Cabbage with rice. It was good but it tasted a bit much on the salty side. There is so much selection on the menu. The regular sizes are plenty of food. If you don't have that much of an appetite, I suggest the Menehune Plates as they are the smaller portion of the entrees. Straight mop this whole Aloha Bento as soon as I got home. I can definitely see why this place closes at 3:30, I came in around 2 and it immediately reminded me of one those post school hang out spots lmao but the staff is very patient and kind to let these kids know their boundaries. The ambiance in here sooo nostalgic and reminds me of home I will say I am loving how quick the service was, I want to say within 5-8 minutes my Aloha Bento was ready for cracks. As for the menu..... that's a good hefty menu you got there Ross J's and I ain't complaining ‍ I originally came in for one of the $5 bowls but wasn't mad about getting the $12 bento because you get plenty protein options on a nice bed of furikake rice. Mo betta than Zippys Now that fried chicken??? Ooowee that bugga was nice flavorful and crisp. Everything in the bento was 10s across the board. This is the first time we, my wife and I, went to Ross J's Aloha Café. We recently moved from Hilo; Hawaii and we were ONO for some Hawaiian food. We went in for breakfast and got two (PSR's) Portuguese sausage eggs and rice plates. The lady at the front/cashier's area, was busy answering the phone, taking phone orders, taking walk in orders, taking food out to customers and clearing/cleaning the tables, but she was very nice and welcoming. Give the lady a raise, she did it all! There was ample parking available, a good number of customers inside and coming and going, the tables were clean. The best part, the food, it was excellent!! The rice was perfect; eggs were cooked and prepared very well and the Portuguese sausage was just like back in Hawaii. We are surely coming back to Ross J's Aloha Café for more Ono grinds.... This is my second time visiting here. First time I really liked their food a lot and this time was no different. Walking in it's a small place, the sign said it seats 70. Along with the tables there is are a few chairs to sit for take out. The restaurant is super clean and their menu clear. Their menu has a variety of things on it from beef to chicken to fish all prepared a little differently and with island flavors. We got the combo bowl which was chicken and beef over rice with teriyaki sauce, I added some veggies too. We also got the chicken katsu and the cheeseburger for the little one. I also couldn't resist the lumpia. The food did take a little bit, but that was completely understandable because they constantly had a line. I was impressed how they kept up with the line, phone orders and, bringing and clearing plates. The food came hot and fresh, so it definitely didn't wait for pick up from the window. The teriyaki bowl was flavorful and fresh. The beef was tender, the chicken wasn't my favorite of the two but it wasn't bad. The chicken katsu was good. The sauce was thicker than I have seen but it had good flavor and the cheeseburger had no complaints. The lumpia was hot and tasty. The sweet chili sauce added some good flavor. Ross J's! I love this place so so much. When I get the opportunity to visit, I will always come here for a plate. BTW: Ross J's has been my go to for over a decade now! It's always busy from open to close, but you can't blame the people because the food is just that good. It's very Mom & Pop so the vibes are chill, nothing uppidy at all. You can order over the phone, but it's easier to stop in & order because no matter what there's going to be a wait. I always get the Ross J's special which has teriyaki steak, fish, spam, and fried chicken. Tip: order the kimchi. I also grabbed some lumpia for my order. The special is a lot of food so with the lumpia included, I have two meals for the day. I just love the fried chicken in the special, I always put some of their Mac salad and kimchi on each bite.
