I was so excited to try this place out being I'm a local. I had high expectations. Got the kalua pig and rice, spam musubi and a kalbi combo plate.... The kalua was all fat and mostly all cabbage. The 2 bites of kalua that were edible had a nice flavor. The musubi was just ok, Lacked flavor. The kalbi combo was so skimpy. 2 small slices of meat and the rest rice. I love my Hawaiian food but this place definitely fell short. Maybe they were just having an off day. read more

Ross J's! I love this place so so much. When I get the opportunity to visit, I will always come here for a plate. BTW: Ross J's has been my go to for over a decade now! It's always busy from open to close, but you can't blame the people because the food is just that good. It's very Mom & Pop so the vibes are chill, nothing uppidy at all. You can order over the phone, but it's easier to stop in & order because no matter what there's going to be a wait. I always get the Ross J's special which has teriyaki steak, fish, spam, and fried chicken. Tip: order the kimchi. I also grabbed some lumpia for my order. The special is a lot of food so with the lumpia included, I have two meals for the day. I just love the fried chicken in the special, I always put some of their Mac salad and kimchi on each bite. I love their meat jun, but it's always out when I stop in. If they have the meat jun available, please try that! Please.... If anyone hears me, I need meat jun ASAP :). Everything is a solid pick. Ok to be honest the only thing I e eaten here is the musubi's. Spam Musibi, chicken musubi and. Portuguese sausage musubi. And I love it. Reminds me of home and also the price is right. Very friendly staff. Welcoming upon arrival. Love that the menu is posted on the board. Easy to see. Food portions are pretty big especially for the affordable price you pay for the food. I love the butterfish. It was a favorite growing up in Hawai'i. My family got the combo plates and were surprised at how much food they got for the price. The kimchee is super yummy here. I really hate to give this place a 1 solely because they simply don't have good customer service AT ALL As much as I love the food and it's great. I have been coming here for years close to a decade now. EVERY TIME I come here I am told the wait is 20-30 minutes . They FAIL on keeping their customers time valued. Finally got thru but was immediately put on hold without me saying anything for a WHOLE 9 MINUTES!! She said she's the only one working there so she's a lil busy (we really gonna believe you're the only one working there during lunch hr?). I always love coming here ! The food is so good and affordable. They are busy all the time so just be prepared to wait a little bit (doesn't take too long). I got the combo platter which has teryaki beef and chicken and it also comes with mac salad and 2 spam musubi's. The portions are great and their pricing is affordable. There was a long line, mostly filled with Islanders, which seemed promising. However, the food was underwhelming. There wasn't enough teriyaki sauce, and the Hawaiian Sun drinks were not cold enough. The lumpia was tasty but greasy. The steak had too much fat, and the pork loin was tough. The overall service was subpar, and the cashier seemed like he would rather be anywhere else, In summary, the experience didn't live up to expectations. Heard good things about this place, but I was not impressed at all. I rarely come to this side of town, but since we were in the area the other week, we decided to stop in. They have one register and a long line of customers, so it looked promising when we walked in. You pay for your food, pick an empty table to sit at and they bring out your order when its ready. All of their tables were a greasy, crumbly mess! As we were waiting for our food, I noticed that all plates, utensils and cups are left on the table whenever someone got up to leave. One of the employees will come over and grab the dirty plates, but they never took the time to wipe down the tables and the seats?!?! Even the shoyu and tabasco bottles looked nasty and sticky with pieces of food stuck on them. Eww! I ordered the bento, which was meh. The teri beef was really thin and the chicken tasted average. The slice of spam was a thicker decent size and they gave way too much of the furikake rice. Maybe I just ordered the wrong dish, but if they can't get a simple bento right, the rest of their menu is questionable to me! read more

Ross J's Aloha Grill menu consists of plate lunches, fried rice, Loco Moco, Sandwiches, Noodles, Bowls such as their Spicy Korean Chicken Bowl, other favorites! After reviewing the menu, we decided to order the following Loco Moco - $5.99 - Hamburger patty with 2 eggs and gravy. Shanghai Lumpia - $2.99 Hamburger Katsu Side of Korean Spicy Chicken Once you place your order, you can choose booth seating. The team at Ross J's Aloha Grill will bring out the food to you as the order is prepped and ready. The Lumpia was provided first. It was fried perfectly and the ingredients used inside the Lumpia tasted fresh, not premade. The Loco Moco was delicious! The patty was a decent size and the eggs were scrambled! The gravy was flavorful and lots of rice was also provided. I would order the Loco Moco again from Ross J's Aloha Grill. The Hamburger Katsu was interesting. It was like a Loco Moco except the hamburger patty was fried. The Korean Spicy Chicken was scrumptious and so delicious! I'd highly recommend if you're going to Ross J's Aloha Grill to get the Korean Spicy Chicken. The spices used to season the chicken and the sauce blended well together. It wasn't too spicy! LP from our visit on Monday 4/25. Craving some local food and house hunting in the area, and after reading the yelp reviews, decided to stop by and try some grindz. We ordered: 1. Fried Noodles; 2. Spicy Korean Chicken; 3. Meat Jun. I must say, the fried noodles didn't look all that great, but that's because I was probably comparing it to Shiro's back home, but the flavor was there and we all enjoyed it. The spicy Korean chicken was on-point and they loaded the plate with rice, which I really appreciated as I'm a starch-a-holic. Minus 2 stars as the meat jun was overcooked and very dry and had absolutely no flavor without the sauce, which come to think of it was not very good either. I will definitely be back for the korean chicken and to try a few more of their menu options. The price is super cheap for the amount of food that you receive and the portion size. This restaurant was well worth the visit! It is easy to find and has lots of onsite parking. It's on a main road in Henderson and only about 2 miles from the Galleria in Henderson. It closes at 3 so get there early. The restaurant was full during my entire visit and did a brisk take out business. Staff were very friendly and food was delicious. Serving sizes are huge. Where can you find prices like that anywhere? You can get a whole ass meal for like 7 bucks. But I ordered 4 Masubi and a plate of hamburger steak over rice and an extra side of Mac salad. One of my closest friends is originally from Hawaii and comes to visit the 9th Island pretty frequently. When we first moved here, he came for a visit and took me to eat at Aloha Specialties, which he said was his favorite Hawaiian restaurant anywhere. Most of my previous Hawaiian food experience had centered around L&L Hawaiian, which is gross. We went and ate there and I loved it. I wanted to eat there all the time but it's a hassle to get down to Fremont and find parking with all of the perpetual construction there. they were also frequently out of food I wanted because they are popular and people eat there a lot. I drove all the way down there a couple of times only to be turned away, which is frustrating. I found Ross J's on a fluke. I was nearby getting a modification made to my truck and the guys running the shop recommended this. I wandered in and remarked that their menu looked similar to Aloha Specialties. They informed me that they were owned by the same company. This was exciting news since Ross J's is conveniently located in the suburbs with plentiful parking. I also love Makai and I feel like the combined menu of these two places constitutes the ultimate Hawaiian restaurant. I can get all the Hawaiian BBQ I need from Makai and I can get Saimin, Loco Mocco, etc. from Ross J's. The food and service are both fantastic. I particularly love their loco mocco and I want to explore the menu further. I've been back twice and I'll eat there whenever I'm in the neighborhood. Great spot! read more

Lots of food and team Island vibes were strong. Very busy place especially since it's tucked away in the Smiths shopping center. I had the combo plate special - Korean chicken, shrimp tempura, rice and Mac salad. Hubs had the teriyaki plate and a side of kimchi. The portion of food was so big that we brought home half of it. Sad. The quality has definitely gone down. The large wonton min only had 4 wontons, which makes me wonder how many the regular size has. The dashi was really weak too. The teri burger was not even put together even after waiting an extra 10 mins after receiving the wonton min. The teriyaki sauce was watered down and practically tasteless and the burger had no flavor too. I used to bring my family in because it was a taste of home. I haven't been here since pre pandemic and I can say the portions are still very generous and so filling. I always leave with half of my food. We got there a little after opening and the line was already long, but not a problem as the staff is always pleasant and we know the wait is worth the food, price and service. The only disappointment was they were out of meat jun and beef stew, it seems to be a hot seller or they don't make enough as it has always been on the sold out side of the board and it's one of the main reasons we go there. Aside from that the menu options are plentiful and we do still find something delicious to satisfy our opu (belly). Hole in the wall Hawaiian BBQ joint. Tucked into a strip mall and easy to miss unless you know what you are looking for. It was my first time here and we came for lunch. It was a great sign when we arrived that there was a line and the place was full. The line had more to do with how slow the cashier was than a crushing number of customers. She was a little frazzled but nice enough. My lunch mate ordered the spicy chicken bowl and I ordered the loco moco. The chicken was tasty and not overly spicy. The rice was well prepared and plentiful. The loco moco was also good but I was a bit surprised that it did not come with the obligatory macaroni salad. I mean who does that? The rice eggs and beef patty were well done. The gravy was flavorful and made the dish. It just needed a scoop or two of macaroni salad to make it perfect. The menu here is pretty big and there are lots of tasty dishes to explore. Looking forward to giving a few more of them going forward. read more
