Rossa Negra absolutely delivered. The food was muy delicioso from start to finish, and the cocktails... well, let's just say they're the kind you need to keep an eye on. They go down way too easily. Do yourself a favor and order the pistachio martini -- dangerously smooth and totally worth it. The restaurant itself is super easy to get to -- it's right in a shopping strip near I‑95, and there's plenty of parking, which is always a relief. Inside, the vibe is simple elegance. You've got options: table seating, counter seating, and a full bar if you're in a cocktail mood. We couldn't decide on just one thing, so we went all‑in on appetizers: * Tuna Tartar - super fresh and flavorful * Calamari Ecuadorian Style - tender with a sauce that was different in the best way * Trio Empanadas - the Colombian beef and Ecuadorian chicken were my favorites; the plantain & cheese one wasn't really my thing * Chickpea Salad - the dressing deserves its own award And shoutout to Fausto, our server. We came in on the busiest day of the year! Valentine's Day and we didn't make reservations. We showed up around 3 and they were able to seat us. We tried calling before arriving to see if they would be able to take us but their line was busy. I'm not sure their phone was working. We were a table of 4. They were pleasant and quick. They auto charged a 20% gratuity, which was a bit steep but understandable due to the holiday. Charred pulpo was tender and delicious. The scallops were tender but I wished the bacon was crispy. The lobster ravioli sauce was salty. It was salty in the bacon wrapped scallops as well. It would've been more enjoyable if the sauce was good, especially with the bread given. The sauce in the Valentine's Day special with the steak and shrimp was delicious. A bit on the oily side but cooked to perfection. The seafood was so good! A lot of muscles, clams, shrimp, and crab. This was a humble looking restaurant with so much going for it. I've been meaning to come here for a while and we finally did. I'm glad for it and we'll be back, for sure. We had: - Niantic Dances Flamenco (paella): very sizeable portion of paella with a nice range of ingredients in it. I wanted to like this much more than I did. The first big fail was a lack of socarrat. The rice had no toasting, crisping, nor caramelization. It was served in an enameled steel pan, but I'm not sure if that prevented the formation of the socarrat. The second hit was that there was a singular herbacious flavor that overrode everything else. Despite all of the seafood and sausage, one note. - Eli Seduced By The Salmon: beautiful presentation of a luscious salmon. I can not say I've ever had a grape sauce with salmon and potatoes, but it did work from a flavor perspective. It also helped balance the aggressive garlicky nature of the potatoes, which certainly came back to visit later. Worth a try, for sure. - A caipirinha. While not on the menu, we were informed they have cachaca and could make one. Seemed like there was maybe some sour mix thrown in? Not the best, but we also overheard they have pisco, so a pisco sour next time. - the table bread and chimichurri were a great starter, very vibrant while not being overly much and getting you full on the bread. The service was friendly, the restaurant was wide open and clean. From an accessibility viewpoint I would give this place an A. The bossa nova was a notch too loud, and the thermostat set to 75 will cook you. Overall, we both agreed we wanted to come back and try more of the menu because there are a lot of adventurous combinations going on, and so many different cuisines in one place. We came at 5:45 for a reservation and we're promptly seated as there was only one other table there. For happy hour on a Friday, I felt bad for them. My boyfriend saw that the sign said juice bar and our waiter informed us we could only get juices through the drive through (weird but okay). Our drinks were fine (we ordered simple). For a "fusion" menu, it didn't feel like there was a lot of fusion flair. My boyfriend got two different kinds of empanadas and I got the NY Strip. They were both okay. He said the empanadas felt heavy on the exterior. My meal could've used some salt. It's a really beautiful space but the menu was too much. They should really cut down and focus on fewer things and doing them really well. The wait staff were really nice and attentive (I drink a lot of water!) We were greeted by one of the owners Janeth, who was warm and welcoming. The staff was attentive and accommodating. The perfect compliment to the well decorated and ambience of the dining room. The Empanadas and the Para La Bonita were delicious appetizers sufficient to make a meal all by themselves. The Chemari Chicken entree was fantastic. The fresh vegetables were steaming atop the juicy and well breaded chicken breasts and these were presented on a bed of mashed potatoes and the lemon sauce. A treat for the eyes and the palate. The portions were generous without being overwhelming. Well worth the money I recommend you visit this restaurant if you are in the Niantic area instead of a franchise restaurant for a better quality all around experience. What a wonderful dining experience at Rosas Negra this past weekend. It's located in Niantic off Flander Rd. Serving Delicious Latin Fusion. They also have a juice bar but we didn't try any. When we entered we were very welcomed and greeted. The restaurant inside is beautiful ,elegant and very chill. Great ambiance. We went for lunch on the early side so no one was really there however they do have a drive through that people were picking up from. During the weekend only the dinner menu is served and during the week there is lunch menu and dinner . Closed on Tuesdays. My dad had Cazuela Madrileña which was a bowl of seafood in a broth with bread on the bottom. He loved the flavor. I had an Arepa Rellena with Pork. It was just perfect and was filled with enough toppings on it such as tomato , avocado, pork and sauce on the side. We also had the Colombian empanadas. They were on the smaller side but they tasted so good! Came with Ají . It's more of an upscale restaurant. But we were very satisfied with what we received and ate. read more

So i walked around outside for a minute to see where the Entrance and found a set of double doors and walked in. There was no sign outside saying where the entrance to the restaurant was. I was greeted and I asked if they were open because I didn't see anyone besides staff. There was no other guests when I arrived. I was asked if I had a reservation. I said no and they offered to seat me at a table of the bar, whichever i chose. I chose a table. The place setting was neat, and the glasses had no spots and the same for the silverware which was a rose gold vice the normal silver which was a nice touch. The young lady who was my waitress was very nice and attentive and patient since it takes me forever to eat sometimes. I first ordered my drink, which was the Negro Martini. Absolutely light and delicious. Next I ordered the Tuna Tartar as my appetizer and it was so unexpectedly tasteful. Shaped as a heart. They had plantains as the chips vice the regular tostada's. What a great combination! This is one of those plates you want to lick the plate. Lol I also ordered the blackened Scallops as my main course and... they were slightly overcooked and they had a little chewy texture. Had a little too much sauce that masked the taste of the good sized scallops. Still edible though. This was one of the reasons I gave this wonderful establishment a 4 vice a 5. The music was soft latin music. Very relaxing and ez They have Wifi as well without having to input a password which is so convenient. I could see this place expand and have a nightclub next door. Manager suggestion. The other reason i gave this beautiful establishment a 4 vice a 5 was some of the staff. I do not believe they felt they could be heard. Unfortunately I could. They were talking and cursing about being wasted and hung over. Not a conversation, even the first guest should overhear. I am ok with a little banter but etiquette in a fine dining environment should be clear that the BS needs to stay in the back where no one can hear. Overall, it was a great restaurant minus the little hiccups. I would come back again and try their other dishes. If my 2nd time shows no change then I will not recommend it. read more

2nd time here and again, service and food did not disappoint!! We were greeted and sat immediately. Our server listed the evening's specials and asked if I liked Salmon as they had an amazing Salmon and Clam special. He was very impressive so I took his expert advice. The owner's wife came around with samples of Peruvian Sangria. It was so good that we ordered one. The blackberry liqueur/cinnamon hints were the stars of the drink. We started with Calamari Ecuador and the calamari was perfectly cooked. Nestled in garlic, tomatoes, olive oil and aromatic spices, we couldn't get enough. Next came our entrees. Beautifully cooked clams adorned a huge filet over black rice and julienne vegetables. Every bite was delightful. The Cowboy Ribeye, cooked medium, was so tender and perfectly paired with chimichurri sauce over baby potatoes and vegetables. Jeanette and staff outdid themselves setting a lovely table for us. The Rossa Negra martini was absolutely scrumptious as well as the caesar salad accompanied by bread & a delicious chimichurri sauce. We went on Valentines Day before a concert at Mohegan. It was really nice inside and the hostess was super friendly and sweet! Our waiter was not as jovial and not that attentive but the food was REALLY GREAT! On Valentines Day it's a crap shoot on the food as they are turning it out like crazy. We only ordered some small plates so we could try a bunch of stuff and I'm on a limited diet.. everything came out quick and hot , was beautifully presented, a big portion and was absolutely delicious!
