My family and I stopped here on our way across the UP- the owner and her daughter (our server) were amazingly kind. From the warm welcome to the warm food- everything was wonderful. We even had our daughters service dog "in training" along and she was given ice cubes because "that princess doesn't want to drink that warm water." We love Rosy's. This is my very first review ever making on Yelp and I only got the app to read her reviews to a family member I was telling I want to bring to Rosy's. We have NEVER been disappointed in Rosy's cooking or our waitress Tekla's service. Their breakfasts are amazing! My kids leave the restaurant with a toy or treat of some kind almost every visit. We only know this dynamic duo through being customers, but they definitely remember us and make us feel like regulars even if we aren't. There are reviews suggesting that the 5 star ratings had to be paid for. I can honestly understand this confusion because Rosy's is not meant for everybody. She really doesn't appear to be in the business to make a fortune, and is real to the core and won't BS you or flatter you to get you to stay. This is why you either love or hate her, and we fricken love her! So, those 5 star ratings are definitely real. (Oh and I would bet money on it Rosy could care less about low ratings because she has such loyal local customers already. You have to stop and eat here! The meat is catered in daily fresh from the butcher, the pea soup is amazing as well as the burgers and fries, the service is amazing X 1,000! Rosy's is a no-frills, good home-cookin' spot. I had a huge three egg build-your-own omelet with sausage, mushrooms, and cheese. Instead of ground sausage, they use cut up sausage patties which was a little bit of a bummer to me. Our drinks were kept full. Service was good. At times, the language might be a little questionable for the youngsters, but that's all part of the charm. read more

After reading all of the glowing reviews the day before, I had to grab some lunch on the way out of town. And grab some lunch I did. Rosy was hilarious with her stories of Texas and the great migration to the UP. Our waitress was very nice and even looked at a Playboy as we were leaving, which was amazing. As for the food, holy cow. I got the special, which was a "Hot Hamburger with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy". It was served country style: burger on white bread, topped with potatoes and gravy (see picture). Absolutely delicious! Talked with some locals and soaked in that great Yooper accent! Visited before the pandemic. Server was not the friendliest, food was okay- but I thought the inside and outside of the restaurant was cute and loved the classic feel of the place. I saw that Rosey's had 100 reviews and 5 stars so that's a no-brainer if you're a fan of funky old diners right? Well... I wasn't a fan. The place is dirty and my waitress/cook was wiping her nose with the back of her hand and she didn't wash her hands before handing my food either. Pretty gross but I'm not a complete germaphobe so I ate it. The burger was so-so and the fries were basically Or-Ida frozen fries dropped in hot oil. They don't accept credit cards or have fountain soft drinks. You get a can of pop and a cup of ice so refills don't seem like an option, not that she asked anyway. The owner seemed like a sweet lady and the waitress was friendly enough but something is definitely fishy with the 5 star rating. The tab was $24 for a party of two including the tip. A little pricey considering it was pretty unremarkable. Next time through I'll find a different diner. read more

I stopped by due to the good reviews. Been there a few times. First time was ok, but they seemed understaffed. I brought 4 friends with me and the cook was in a rush. Most of the food was overcooked and she wasn't very friendly. Second time, food was ok, but their staff was making homophobic jokes out loud. Felt very uncomfortable and it was just inappropriate and unprofessional. Decided I didn't want to go there anymore. We loved Rosy's so much we had breakfast there 2 days in a row of a 3 day trip to Escanaba. It is the archetype of what a small town greasy spoon / diner should be. The place was full of locals. It was impossible not to overhear town gossip and to be emerged in the warmth and friendship of the people who gather to share meals and companionship. The food was great, particularly the corned beef, which Rosy makes up fresh. There is nothing fancy here, but there was nothing we didn't thoroughly enjoy either. The best part is Rosy. She is a sweetie and a true blue character who tells it like it is. What a gem in Escanaba! Rosie and her daughter were tag teaming this morning when we stopped in for breakfast. Looking for a local hang out, and we found it! Typical diner decor and furniture. Food came out hot and promptly. Eggs and toast - and they handled my request for egg white omelette with ought a problem. When I asked for orange marmalade Rosie's daughter brought a small jar for me - they typically don't have it, but had one from a Christmas gift so they brought it into the diner for customers. We signed the guest book before we left - a fantastic breakfast and visit with Rosie and her daughter. If you are in Escanaba and are going out for breakfast don't miss your chance to stop in. Stayed the night in Escanaba while on a motorcycle trip and the best part of that overnight was breakfast at Rosy's Diner. The food was great American diner food with flavors and food experience you would want. This is where Rosy will dish out great food as well as a few insults and razzing of the clientele. I guarantee a unique experience if you engage with Rosy/Nancy. We are from South Carolina (Beaufort/Hilton Head area) and when we first visited Rosy's Diner, Rosy was I guess was unsure of us and intoduced herself as Nancy. The second time we went back (the next day) and were ordering, she told us she was Rosy. She is a hoot, no doubt about it. The food was good, very slightly slow service but you just don't mind because it at all because it is breakfast and a show. If you enjoy proprietors who are characters and full of life, Rosy will not disappoint you. We enjoyed the experience so much we went back a third time with our son and his new bride. Next time we are up visiting, we will be back; you should give Rosy's a visit because we feel you will really enjoy both the food and experience. read more
