The owners are so down to earth and take their time with each and every customer. They don't rush you or look overwhelmed. They employ a good many high schoolers, personally I never had a problem with any of them they are just like the owners. A few years ago they put a car port with tables up which is nice! There's also another seating facing the river, a pravillion, and many other shady seating. The trail is right beside them it's my favorite part of Williamsburg. The river sound and shade can make you lose track of time peaceful and certain areas have beaches to picnic or swim. A hot summer day here will make the life stresses leave. With lower trail you'll never stop going it's worth it all.

You can park at the Alfarata Station in Alexandria or at the Water Street Flea Market, or at the Flowing Spring Station if you're coming from the other direction. Do not even return skis more than a few hours late as your down payment will not be refunded. I had surprise surgery that week, still no refund for us when we returned two days late. It's ok...we will purchase skis somewhere else next year.

Plan for a long wait (in line in your vehicle) to get to the display -- we usually take dinner with us to eat while we wait, sing Christmas songs, and generally act silly to pass the time. Some years there has been only a short line for us, but we usually aren't so lucky. There are porta-potties along the entry wait line, and (as mentioned in the broadcast) "heated restrooms" are available at the end of the drive through. There are treats/snacks for sale just before the admission booth, Each of the light structures is sponsored by a (local) company, and some of the images are themed towards the sponsor. It's recommended, but not required, to turn off your headlights for the experience, which is not very simple (and perhaps not even possible) with some modern vehicles. You might want to plan for this before heading to the display. At the end of the drive, there's a small indoor gift shop and snack stand, an impressive model train display, and Santa Claus is also there and available for photos. The lights themselves are fun, and the drive is a nice experience. It does get a bit repetitive from year to year, but the first time is especially nice.

This is the 25th anniversary of the lights, so that tells you that there are many more to come. Piece of advice, attempt to get here as early as possible. This is definitely a hot thing to see. We waited in line for what felt like the better part of an hour. You weave your way through the parking lot of the ballpark and then when you funnel down to a single line you are about to enter the park. While you wait, there are characters that roam about the vehicles. Also, do not fret about having to use the restroom during the wait, you can exit your car and use one of the portapotties. Going through, with this being my first time, I am told that some displays are older than other and more are added just about each year. You can tell which displays are newer just by the lights that are used. Each display is sponsored by a local business and is displayed somewhere within the display or a sign near the display. Some displays are strictly Christmas and some are a mix of the business and Christmas. Something else to look for while in the car, especially if there are kids in your party, is the items of interest for that year. This year were toys that Santa favored. It's a great slow ride through the park where you can see displays everywhere. Some rides are decked out for the holidays as well. My favorite was Leap the Dips. Not only is it the oldest operational roller coaster in the world, but it was a total draw for me. Music is pumped into your car which is interrupted on occasion by announcements. But you don't mind that much while gazing at the lights. Definitely give it a look at if you are in the area for the holidays.

Inside, another wonderful staff member walked us through the entire process--from getting our daily boat license and watching a quick video on boating rules, to highlighting great spots on the water and awesome locations to pull the tube. They were also completely transparent about all fees associated with the rental. After passing the quick and easy test, we headed down to the dock. The dock attendant walked me through the boat's operations, showing me the motor, how to adjust everything, and ensuring I felt completely comfortable. Everyone we encountered was fantastic! The boat itself was clean, in excellent condition, and surprisingly fast for a 90hp engine. We spent the day swimming, cruising, and fishing, and the kids had an absolute blast tubing.
