If I could give a 0 star I would. Came in twice to our house to charge us for a service that was not delivered. Setup for camera and tracing for the second time they came out and then was told that their tool doesn't work when power line is underground the house. Mind you this is after they were already in the middle of "tracing" our line. You guys should have asked before setting up appointments if the customers power line is underground if you already know that you have crappy tools for tracing. You could also have looked around before entering our home that their is no power line above you. Paid for 1K for nothing. Bonus the mess you left all over our bathroom. read more

TLDR: Roto-rooter created a hole in our pipe which led to thousands of dollars in repairs. Admission of guilt but not taking responsibility. Be careful with Roto-Rooter. What started off with a clogged kitchen sink and a $116 bill has now turned into a water damage and thousands of dollars in repairs to the pipes, drywall and carpet. I wish I could say that we enjoyed working with them but it's been a nightmare. Our kitchen sink was clogged and during that process they lost 30+ feet of line. They almost had to cut into our walls. After hours of trying to get out the line, they finally were able to. At the end of the day they were able to clear the line (yay!) but unbeknownst to us, a hole was also created. How do we know that the hole was created by them? Well we have a recording of the tech admitting that their tool created the hole. Why aren't they responsible for the repairs? Well according to them, because they didn't install the pipes, they don't know the integrity of the PVC pipe. (Home built in 2009). But they advised that they would make a few phone calls and call back. Also to avoid any responsibility, there is a consent and release on the invoice. That's fine and dandy but it's hidden ONLY on their copy so you don't even know you're signing that consent. How is that legal?! They kept telling me that we signed it and I told them that my invoice didn't have it and low and behold, I was right. The invoice that I signed didn't have the consent and release. The copy that they keep (2nd page) has the consent and release. You just don't know it. Well it's been about three weeks and no one has called back. I've tried to call them multiple times but I'm pretty sure they've blocked my number because I get a busy signal every time but when I use other people's phones it goes right through. I spoke to Tonya (who was short with me and quite rude) and asked to speak to Mike, the person who was "helping" me and was advised that a message would be given to him. I asked, do you need my name and she said we know who you are. Its about the scratch on the tile. I wish it was just a scratch on the tile. We have photos of the hole and it shows the shredding within that hole. We also have an admission that their tool created the hole but no one wants to take full responsibility for the damage. At the end of the day we're left with 5-6 feet of bare wall with just studs, a broken pipe, thousand dollars of repairs and an unclogged sink. Thanks for nothing Rotor-rooter. I have worked with four staff at Roto-Rooter in the past 2 months to solve my sewer problems. The first crew made a mistake on my problem, which prompted me to bring out a second crew. When a member of the second crew noted the mistake, he was promptly fired. I suppose he was a bit to honest to work at the company. A third staff member called me, committed to offering solutions, and then never followed up. I spoke to the manager at one point, and he was aggressive and refused to take responsibility. Dishonesty, lack of professionalism. Several staff members have now confided in me that they think the management is "very difficult to work under." Generally a horrible experience. read more

Roto Rooter installed a $160 Badger Garbage Disposal in Dec at my mom's house. They charged another $250 just for the install. My mom is going through chemo. Can't bend to look under her sink/cabinet. Last night, I got under her cabinet. Noticed the entire garbage disposal was hanging down, an excess of plumbers putty rotted out dripping everywhere and frame is bent. Standing water everywhere. Subfloor and cabinet probably ruined-rotted. The disposal is under warranty for six years. Badger will come to your house and fix it for the first year if it is a manufacturer defect. We have in WRITING from the manufacturer now after seeing the damage that this was negligent install work, and Roto Rooter should cover it. In writing. Please look at photos. A layman can tell this thing was put in wrong. It has barely been used as my mom has been too ill to cook. When it was used my mom thought the vibrating/shaking was normal. Why? She trusted the Roto Rooter name. Her last garbage disposal that my dad installed lasted 40+ years vs a few months due to Roto-Rooter's incompetence. Mike, the installer, was missing a part during installation. My mom is older, and has had to travel four hours, once a week for chemotherapy during COVID. Yet, she offered to run to Home Depot for him to get the $15 part during COVID. Mike (the plumber) said no, he could use the old part-from the old 1970's Montgomery Ward disposal. I called Roto-Rooter today to see what they could do. Stevie, the receptionist, told me too bad, the 30-day warranty is up. Wouldn't even hear me out. Nowhere on the receipt (which I have) does it say there's only a 30-day warranty. A one-year warranty is industry standard w/garbage disposal installs. Roto Rooter charges more than industry standard. Still thinking of hiring them? Stevie essentially said, I'm out of luck unless I want to pay to have it installed again. I'd have to pay to have someone come out and even look at the damage. She said I couldn't even talk to anyone else, but her without being charged. I asked for a manager. Stevie smartly replied, "I'm the manager". There was no reasoning with her. I strongly advise to NEVER hire Roto-Rooter. They likely did thousands of dollars worth of damage if the water got to the subflooring. Yet, I only asked they come and fix the disposal itself. Stevie shouldn't answer phones. It is blatantly obvious they were negligent, plus we professionals stating in writing they're negligent and are responsible for the repairs. I offered Stevie to get the aforementioned in writing from another three licensed plumbers. Stevie said it wouldn't matter, Asked condescendingly why my mom didn't call within 30 days (even after I explained cancer limiting mobility). But more importantly, nowhere on the receipt does it state 30-day warranty. I don't say things I can't prove. She paid $250 for a garbage disposal INSTALL (another $160 for the disposal) that has a six-year warranty and industry standard is one-year install guarantee. Second, Mike slapped so much plumber's putty on that the leak was not apparent immediately. Nonetheless, it's apparent this guy shouldn't be sent out on service calls. If we want anything done guess we'll be seeing Larry Hunt (the owner-whom Stevie sneered I'd never get to talk to) in court. This will be a very short review since I have nothing to report other than the fact they made an appointment and never showed up.

Not impressed. We had an inspection for a potential house we are trying to buy. We also called Roto Rooter to come do a sewer line inspection. We were told we couldn't make a specific appointment, but that they would show up between one and four. (Cable man response) We were not happy about this, as we are trying to be conscious of the current homeowners and their time. Fortunately, the plumber showed up around one. He did the sewer line inspection, and he told us a few things. We paid him $200, and he left. Fast forward two days later, and the current homeowners and realtors are all asking us if we've heard back yet from the plumbers. Not a peep. We called them this morning to see what was going on. The plumber said he would put us "at the top of his list, and get it to us this morning." To put into perspective: Our house inspector has his report to us day-of in a matter of hours. Here's what we get for $200: The plumber simply puts the video on YouTube and sends us the link. The FULL written report is another $75--they don't tell you that when you make your appointment or when they're at your house. Were they ever going to tell us that? We had to call to find out. $200 should get us the FULL written report. What a joke. The plumber also refused to provide further information unless we coughed up another $150 for a trace inspection. On May 15, 2019, we contacted Roto Rooter at the direction of our Home Warranty Company (HMS / Cross Country) to check our leaking water heater to see if it could be serviced or repaired. I spoke to a woman on the phone who said that someone would be out that afternoon, no one ever showed up or called us. At this point our basement floor is covered in water due to the leak. I called 3 more times during the day of Thursday May 16, 2019 and left 2 voicemails. Finally someone called back at 6:45 pm and said that someone would be out between 8:00 am and Noon on Friday, May 17. A tech came out on the morning of May 17, took photos and said they would submit it to HMS / Cross Country for replacement. We were notified on Monday, May 20 that replacement was authorized by HMS / Cross Country. We were told on Tuesday, May 21 that the replacement hot water heater was in stock at Ferguson's Supply in Clive and Roto Rooter could pick it up on Wednesday or Thursday. My wife contacted Roto Rooter on Thursday since we had not yet heard anything and Roto Rooter claimed that the water heater was not yet delivered. We called HMS / Cross Country and they told us that the water heater was in stock. We called Roto Rooter and they said that they were waiting on it to be delivered. Today, Friday May 24, my wife called HMS / Cross Country and a supervisor named Mary told her that if Roto Rooter called the HMS / Cross Country Authorization Number they could pick it up today. This information was relayed to Katie at Roto Rooter. Roughly 30 minutes later Katie left a voicemail saying that they could not pick up the water heater and it would be delivered on Tuesday May 28 and they would schedule the installation at that time. When I called Roto Rooter back and asked to speak to a manager Katie told me that the manager was not available. I asked for the manager's name and all that Katie would say is that the manager's name is Larry, refused to provide a last name, and that he was not available. Now we are 9 days out with no hot water and Roto Rooter is not willing to go pick up the water heater and claims that they are "slammed with emergency calls". I emphasized that our situation is also an emergency and has been ongoing for over a week and Katie refused to do anything further because it was not their policy to pick up the water heaters, they are usually delivered. UPDATE 5/25/2019: Despite confirming yesterday that they would install the water heater on Tuesday we just got a call from HMS / Cross Country telling us that Roto Rooter has declined the job. We called Roto Rooter and they cancelled the job without contacting us. Katie cried that I bashed her on social media and and Mike was completely rude yet said that reputation is very important to them...guess not. UPDATE 5/25/2019: The head of the plumbing department called regarding my review. He said that he believes the issue is with HMS / Cross Country but made things right. They are wrapping up the install of our water heater now! read more

You do business with a company because of their people, and having had such a great experience the last time we had a stopped up drain, we called Roto-Rooter when we needed them again. Couldn't be more pleased with the response time and that we got Conner Hunt again. Conner's experience and knowledge allowed him to complete the work in no time and his friendly personality reminded me again why we'd called Roto-Rooter. I will never use Roto-Rooter again - beyond horrible customer service! We had them come out and do some major work in August of this year. They had to dig huge holes in our basement to replace old pipes. Due to the amount of work the job ran late into the night. Our service techs advised that since it was getting so late they would be back first thing in the morning to fill the holes for us. They never showed up the next day. We had to call the office 8 times that day to try and get a status of when they'd be coming to finish the job. We continuously got voicemail and no calls back. Finally at 5:00 pm I ended up calling the service tech himself that had been there the day before to see when they'd be completing our job. Apparently another job was deemed more important than ours and they didn't show up until the following business day. To continue our wonderful experience, the bill we received was in the name of the previous home owner who'd moved out over 4 years ago. I guess it's not important for them to know who their actual customer is. When I called to correct the error and ask for a bill in our name the front desk staff was extremely rude and advised they changed the information in their system, but would not send a new bill. I physically went to the office location to pay the bill in person on September 20th. (I wanted to make sure I had receipt in hand). The staff was again rude, acting annoyed that they had to service me in person. Much to my surprise, I get a bill from Roto-Rooter (now in my name), with the exact same invoice number as the previous statement, dated 10/31/19. This bill told me the exact same amount was due and 61-90 Days past due! When I called to find out why I'd received the bill, I again received a less than pleasant customer service experience. I was told it was paid and what I received was just a statement telling me that. When I asked why it would have been received over a month after payment and showing the amount due not being $0.00, all I got was our records show it's paid, so I don't know why you received that. No apology at all! Overall, our experience with the service techs was not bad, but the customer service staff is less than desirable. read more

Worst customer service. We had some issues with our backyard drainage tile and called roto rooter to help cleanout the tile. They showed up and only cleaned out the front tile and gutters, telling my husband numerous times that anything in the back is only a leach pipe. The next day we spent time to dig up said leach pipe to find out that it was in fact connected all the way to the front of the house. The guy was at my house for less than 40 minutes, was charged $375 for a service call, and we didn't even get the one tile cleaned out that needed to be cleaned out. My husband called the manager asking for an explanation, he told him he would get back to me. Never did. He had to call about 6 times. After that he wrote a negative review on google and got a call within a minute. Horrible that that's what it takes. Then they told him he'd only give us a $125 credit if we took down the review and if we never called back. What?! What a joke. PLEASE GO ANYWHERE ELSE. read more

Ok so back in February we called Roto Rooter spoke to the head plumber in Indianola and the gave me an over the phone quote of 210.00 to send someone out to run a camera in my main sewer line to see why every drain in my house is backing up. I know I am a woman and I have no idea about anything in this department but I do know when I am getting screwed! Not only did they send a couple of guys my way they told me they could only trace the line anyway if I wanted a camera they would have to charge me another 210.00.. I argued with the gentleman and he just traced the line left after telling me that someone would call me in the next 24-48 hours to set up a sewer repair where they have to dig up my yard and charge me over 10000.00 to fix my problem. I not only heard from Roto Rooter 2 weeks later and that was after I had left many messages, they said they could not get to us for a month and a half. I will never ever use this company again, they are crooks in my opinion. I called H&H plumbing and they found our issue and it only cost us 530.00 no break in my yard just roots in the pipe. They worked with another plumbing company named Beeline these two companies talked to me like I was NOT an idiot, they have earned my respect and forever business. After 2.5 months of living with family, because of the crap Roto Rooter put us through, we just had to wait for the rain to stop, H&H and Beeline had us back in our home 24 hours later. read more

Worst plumbing service ever! I had them replace & install a new sump pump. It stopped working less than 2 days after it was installed. I was told it was to low. The 1st technician should have known this!!! Then, i had a appointment on friday to replace the pipes from my sump pump to the outside. They called me at 2:30pm (when my appt was scheduled for) to tell me they were 2 technicians short so they had to reschedule for tuesday. Why was I not notified 6 1/2 hours earlier, when they realized they were short handed?!?! We had severe rain on sat nite with tons of flooding. On tuesday i called at 2:30pm (when my appoinent was rescheduled for) to see what the time frame was and the gal on the phone had no clue what i was talking about. After being put on hold, she told me she found fridays rescheduled appt, but nothing for tuesday. After being put on hold again, Jim came on the line and told me they had cancelled my appt due to being so busy with the flooding. He told me that the decision was just made to cancel my appt when i called. The people on the phone were not even nice, they were rude. The employees knew sunday morning they were going to be busy this week. I have never heard of a company cancelling an appt without informing the customer!!! I immediately called and asked them to come to check what went wrong. to my surprised, I told there is no warranty for the repair unless it is hand written on the paper. also I was promised someone would call me back next day. the call never came, so I had to call back to check the progress. now they said I had to pay them $30 to come to check again, further repair will cause extra. called the company to disconnect a water line going to my fridge and have it capped off. tech was here for 20 minutes in total including the time to write out the bill. $101.00 for the call. He did not cap the water line after he disconnected it and I asked and was told it "shouldn't leak since the water was shut off and he drained the water line" and he did not cap it. @ 1145 I noticed a water leak in my basement called roto rooter back and they said they would get him back to my house. After dumping a water bowl full of water At 2:45. I went to the hardware store and got the part to cap it myself (which is why I called them in the first place). This was the worst experience I've ever had with a company. After placing service call for lack of hot water, a tech arrived spent an hour looking at things, and left. Problem was worse. Tech arrived next day with another tech and they again did nothing but give a quote for $1,400 fix. After calling another company who showed up right away and fixed the problem on the spot, I called and asked to speak to someone in charge of billing. Never did receive a return call so I called back and was connected to a supervisor by the name of Chad. Chad explained our plumbing was in bad condition and they spent hours of labor trying to find the problem. After informing him the problem was worse after his company left he said I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU WE DIDN'T TOUCH ANYTHING. I replied with saying that was exactly why I was questioning a several hundred dollar bill if he and his tech didnt touch anything. He then explained his boss didn't want to do anymore work for me and he doesn't care about what is reported to the better business bureau. Save yourself time and money and call a company that preforms work that is billed and cares about their customers. read more
