I hands down DO NOT recommend these guys. Point blank. If you want unprofessional, piss poor communication and half assed work, go ahead and waste your money with these people. You will have to hold their hands and literally hound them to finish the work. Communication skills and common sense are sorely lacking. They will leave without telling you a thing. I had to constantly call and hound and babysit these clowns for two weeks to come back out and do a proper grade of the large mountain they left in my front yard, removal of metal edging that they willfully buried into the trench, and setting back the huge pavers. When I had left my very thorough one star review on Google, a person named Pat Swanson, customer service manager at corporate reached out to me to reach out to them. I did that. Let me tell you corporate is also useless and so is Pat. Piss por communication skills and no common sense either. Not only were they competitively priced but our bathroom faucets (which they replaced) now also get hot water, which they didn't before! We didn't even ask them about that and they got it repaired anyway! They also don't stick you with extra fees for credit card use. read more

This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. Roto-Rooter is disorganized, unresponsive, and aggressive once they want payment. They do not return calls -- ever. After leaving fans at my home that appeared to be overheating, no one followed up, no one checked in, and no one called back, despite multiple attempts. I had to deal with the situation on my own, which felt unsafe and irresponsible on their part. They also just show up without coordination and expect you to be home, rather than communicating like a professional service company. Billing was another nightmare. I was overbilled twice, and it was only corrected because I caught the mistakes myself. Had I not checked carefully, I would have been charged incorrectly with no accountability. Once billing became an issue, the tone completely changed. Collections and field managers were rude, nasty, and unprofessional. If you don't pay exactly when they want -- regardless of billing errors -- they become disgustingly disrespectful and are quick to threaten or send accounts to collections. They clearly do not care about customer feedback, reviews, or BBB complaints -- and it shows. I strongly encourage anyone considering Roto-Rooter to check the BBB and online reviews first, because my experience lines up exactly with the many negative reports already out there. Wow . Used them for 5 properties for several years . No more . Never again. Price gouging and using sub contractors that wanted $500 for a bath sink. Then went quickly to $250. This gets more interesting. I had a person from HR call me about an operational issue . Sad that leaders hide. Be aware that will not say that the charge will be $513 dollars and he gave me a very generous discount. This is a suspect practice. That $513 is not mentioned when scheduling. The connector between my hot water heater and kitchen sink broke. With water pouring into both my kitchen and basement, I panicked. Predatory. Slow to provide service. Quick to bill. Poor communication. Errors seem always in their favor, coincidentally. These words/phrases describe my impression after calling Roto Rooter. If you read no further, please see this: Find and Vet an Emergency Plumber Before You Need One. I do not recommend Roto Rooter. I chose the first company to reply to a call or email. Credit for that. Now, contact information for someone else is ready pending another plumbing disaster. I would not use Roto Rooter again. It appears the business model needs some adjustment, based on other reviews I see. Some examples of how I came to this rating: After showing up about an hour later than promised, Roto Rooter offered me a new faucet, installed free. $400. It was of lower grade/features than one at Costco for $120. I passed and asked how he felt offering that to other people under stress in an emergency. I wasn't born every minute. He shrugged. I guess that's SOP for Roto Rooter. Ditto the substantial charges for what looked like a pretty simple repair that took little time. I went to Costco. He installed the one that wasn't a huge rip off. Thanks, I guess. My insurer says she sent them payment twice. Roto Rooter told me only that I was headed to collections and that I agreed to pay. I had not received a final bill and they were negotiating. What? After multiple assists from my adjustor, we cleared that up. When an insurance company seems more helpful and to care more than you do, it's time to reevaluate your values and approach. I am not a professional, but some of the work deemed "necessary" seemed frivolous to me and to my insurer. I appreciate that my basement is dry, but the experience was not one I'd repeat. Still no solution from Roto Rooter and my mother has been without her home since Thursday, July 10 because of a problem this company created. They most recently told us to not use ANY water in the home as it could cause a flood. I have emailed Pat twice, left her a voicemail, my mom has sent two emails and here we are more than two weeks later and no progress has been made. Instead, my mom has spent hours on the phone with various managers, Andrew Shannon, being one. They sent out a team with Brandon as the lead and they could not get the cable or blade out. Per a conversation this morning that my mom had with Andrew, he stated that the issue was the blade got stuck on a hole in the clay pipe. This is exactly our point! If Stephan, the original tech, or Mike, his manager, would have scoped the pipe first, they would have seen the hole in the clay pipe and told my mom of the risks. They just admitted to their fault but are still unwilling to do anything about it. They said they would come down on price to $5900. How convenient that the only "solution" is to create a problem and then weasel a senior citizen out of thousands of dollars. Pat, you can find my information on your voicemail and email. They came out to trace a clog on the laundry room drain. Unable to replicate the issue, didn't charge for the trip. In return I bought their custom drain-o solution. Started a load of wash the next morning and left the house; came home to a flooded laundry room. This was not due to the clog, but due to the fact that the tech did not reattach the supply lines properly. They accepted that it was their fault and offered to pay for deductible if I wanted to go through insurance or I could call a contractor directly and they would cover it. As I did not feel this should be a hit on MY insurance, I called my contractor directly. Everyone stayed in touch through the whole process, no big deal. Now for the 1 star part. I can't get them to pay my contractor. I can't even get them to return my phone call. I message the project manager that I originally coordinated with and he says he keeps reaching out out to AP with no response. I call the office and ask for AP, get sent to voicemail with no returned call. I fear collections or law suit may be my next step. read more

I was away from town last winter and my renter had a backup in the main line. He called Roto-rooter and they charged him $500.00 to clean it out. Since he didn't know any better, he okayed it and paid it. Normally it's a $100 or less. I wouldn't use these guys again in a million years. They charged us $510 to repair a wax seal on the bottom of the toilet. Not knowing anything about fixing toilets and worried about water damage, we agreed. If I could give zero stars I would... Sadly, by reading other people's reviews it looks like this company is a repeat offender. Stay away unless you want to pay to basically be taken for a ride... We called to get our sewage drain cleaned (as every homeowner is advised to do every couple of years) and upon showing up the first thing that the tech did was to say that our line was ballooning and it was collapsing and that he was going to call "his manager". After quite pressing sales tactics we were presented with a 10k estimate to place clean-outs in our line, saying that otherwise, we would have had a sewage backup in no time... When asked why it was so expensive of an estimate, after a quick google search we were able to see that the average cost in Denver for such a procedure is $3K, we were told that they are the best with the best warranty.. and service. That is 70% more than the average cost... Additionally, we were charged $449 for the cleaning that was supposed to have happened. Fast forward 4 days and we had two other companies come over and give us an assessment and additional opinion of what needed to be done and of what the cost would be and guess what? They both said that they were shocked that we had the line cleaned that same week, as they saw no proof of such cleaning on the line. Additionally, they said that the line was not ballooning or collapsing but that simply there were some roots obstructing the bottom of the line hence that is why there was a bit of standing water.So not only Roto Rooter tried to scam us out of an absurd amount of money but they also charged us for a service not rendered. We will be installing cleanouts (for $3k, which is the right amount for a job of this kind and with an exactly equal warranty), as it does make sense for a line as long as ours, but definitely not with this company. Attached you can find a picture of our line taken by one of the other companies showing that our line wasn't even touched by Roto Rooter. This company is a complete scam avoid at all costs. After a small water restoration job, Roto-Rooter tried to bill my insurance despite me saying that it would be out of pocket. When I saw what they were trying to bill for, I noticed that there were charges for work that was never completed (or even mentioned that they were doing), the area they said they worked on was more than double the size of the room they worked on, and the equipment charge list was longer than the equipment put in their own proof of work pictures. They also charged for double the number of hours as workers were actually there, which was easy to spot considering the workers called me both when they left to come to the work site and when they left my house for the day. The accounts department acknowledged this and said they would send me a revised invoice, which never came. Instead, a month later, I received an email and letter that my account was at risk of going to collections for the full fraudulent amount. I spoke with them once again on the phone and via email and they said they would send a corrected invoice they were just waiting for what the amount the correction would be for. Now, a month later, I received a letter that the full amount is being sent to collections and my calls, messages, and emails to the company for the past two weeks have been ignored. How this company is still in business after charging for work that they never did--with photo and call log proof that it was never done--is beyond me. The issues started early. The company won't provide true estimates for work and will bill after it's said and done (my range was $2,500 to $7,500). They also say there's a required asbestos test for a "minimal standard rate fee" that they somehow didn't know the amount of at the time. What they didn't mention is that they also will charge for a lead test and that the cost for the asbestos and lead tests are $900, which is on top of the estimate. One important thing to point out: Roto-Rooter's Denver water restoration leader is Scott Hochevar. He will screen your calls and get angry if you question why there are charges for work that wasn't done, and will simply not respond when presented with evidence. Notably, the higher-than-market-price asbestos test was done by Abigail Hochevar. The lead test, which no one came out for, was certified as done by Val Hochevar under his EPA certification. There aren't a whole lot of Hochevars in Denver and the company that did the inspection, Mountain West Environmental, lists itself as a "family" company, which would explain a lot about the inflated inspection charges. Scott sent me the certifications for the lead test and asbestos test. As mentioned, Val never came out to the property to do a led test, though the certification says the inspection was performed by Val Hochevar and lists his EPA certificate number. This is just the start. There are so many questionable, shady, and outright illegal things that this company did before suddenly becoming unavailable and sending me to collections. I'm not sure how this company is still in business frankly. read more

VERY POOR VALUE. I called a local Roto-Rooter number in Denver, Colorado. I needed a residential repair of a VERY-SLOWLY leaking exterior hose-bib faucet. Definitely NOT an emergency or urgent repair - I stressed the NON-URGENT nature of this repair to the receiving operator at the international call-center. Faucet & Shut-off replacement took about 30 minutes. Bill was $773 USD! OUTRAGEOUS and EXORBITANT charge for a routine, minor plumbing job, done during a regular business day. read more

Mike S. , came out 3 months ago to clean out a backed up kitchen sink and did a great job. Then today, a similar problem cropped up in the downstairs shower which is part of the same line from kitchen. He explained that when you don't regularly run water through the pipe systems, they dry out and then back up when you try to use them after a length of time. This happened here when I experienced black water regurgitating back into shower floor. A quick reaming out and all is back to normal. Mike is smart, competent and very personable. Asked for an evaluation due to low water pressure in the house. The technician said I should replace the PVR valve and that the pressure was already at its max. When I asked for a quote, he said it would be $3k, I said I couldn't afford it. Then he asked for $400 to try to adjust the valve, I said "no", he said " well for $50 I can take a look". He ended up loosening it more for lower pressure and said I really need to spend $3K. He also said I needed to spend another $900 to service my tankless water heater. I called two other local plumbers that said I only had to adjust the valve (which he loosened up) . If they were to replace the entire thing, it would not cost more than $500 + the value to service the tank would be $150. I ended up spending 350 to fix everything. They thought they could "fool an innocent" woman. Do not hire this company! read more

These folks did clear a drain line for us on a Saturday but they price gouged us at 5x what it normally costs (the service regularly runs $99 but they charged us $495!) and their technician threatened to "leave in 5 minutes if the tenant was not able to get a hold of Property Management to collect payment". Who treats people in need like that? No wonder they refused to quote it over the phone. They wanted to gouge us in the field. How unethical. SCAM! DO NOT RECOMMEND! AVOID! I am currently in the process of purchasing a home and my general inspector recommended I have a licensed plumber come take a look at some plumbing issues. I called Roto-Rooter out of desperation as it was the weekend and was told at the time of scheduling that an inspection would cost $99. Little did I know that the $99 is just a trip charge to literally show up to the door, and that it would be an additional $600 to inspect the items my general inspector brought up. The guy just looked at my inspectors and did NOT look at a single item physically. Next time, they should not falsely advertise that inspecting and providing an estimate would be $99. read more

We called to schedule a hydro-jetting as a closing condition on a house. They sent a great salesmen out who was very helpful. Then we scheduled for a Thursday between 2-6 pm. We waited around for them to call, and when no one had called by 7:00 pm we called and scheduled for Friday. We waited for their call again, and nothing. We tried a third time for Saturday. Nothing. When we called on Saturday we explained the wasted time the apathetic, monotoned dispatcher read her script and falsely told us they had given us a price and they were waiting for us to schedule the appointment! We insisted we had STILL not received a price and had wasted three days waiting around for them. Showing no urgency or contrition the dispatcher explained they would rush a technician out to us first thing Sunday morning at 8 am. Not surprisingly they didn't show up. So we called to tell them they lost our business. Within ten minutes a technician was at the front door saying it would take 2 hours to complete the job, and finally gave a price to us. It was too little too late, we didn't have time to wait around on Sunday--and with how we were treated we questioned the quality of the job that would be done. What atrocious customer service! I will never recommend a company that can't even bother to call during an appointment window when they can't make it. They wasted our time. read more

I would add to the list of people here wishing we would have come to yelp first to see a review. I had a scheduled appointment with a 4 hour window as well and when that window was missed I called a number of times to see what the story was. It is incredibly frustrating that you always get routed to a national number and they have to call the dispatch and on a number of occasions they said they have left a message with the local dispatch and they will call you back. I never received a call back, not one. I had to keep calling back and no joke after at least 10 times and 7 hours they said that they would not be able to make it and need to schedule for the next day. In addition to this, I had a toilet issue repair done with them just 13 days prior and the exact same issue is why I needed them to come back. I had spoken to a "manager" and they told me it should be covered since it was the same issue. However, after all that, when the tech arrived they said they could not guarantee the work that they had done because it was outside of the "7 day window" that is their policy. Then when the technician is there they tell you a supervisor would have to help you out but of course the number they give you is one that no one answers. They purposefully put you in between any person that would be able to actually help you out so that they do not have to deal with any real issues that arise. I would not recommend them in any circumstance as they never seemed at all bothered that they don't stand by their work and don't have a problem with wasting your time. read more

Writing this review as a warning to all consumers considering Roto Rooter - particularly during emergency situations. If you have Bob Ray assigned - do yourself a favor and find another plumber. This guy in an unscrupulous salesman who is only looking for people in dire situations to take advantage of. We had both the toilets in our home backed up. Despite our attempt not to use them, Roto Rooter was the only one who could come out quickly to assess the issue. After a sewer scope, it was determined that we had a burst pipe. We were given a ridiculous bill of $16,000 to repair the issue. Because my wife and I both work from home, we decided we had no choice - we had to get this fixed asap. So we gave them a 50% deposit for work. Long story short, while the excavation crew came out to fix the issue, they saw that a Fiber Optics conduit had bored through our sewer line. This seemed like great news - someone else would be responsible for repairing the damage. But Bob saw this as an opportunity to try and take advantage of an unfortunate situation. He mentioned that our pipes were damaged in multiple places and that we were responsible for the one without the fiber optic line going through. This was the first red flag of many. I worked with Adams county to find out the Fiber Optics company that did the install on the line and reached out to them. They were incredibly professional and quick to send over a crew to assess the situation. They determined their line had caused damage to my sewer line and mentioned they would take responsibility for all of it - including the portion Bob had mentioned was our responsibility. I called Bob to tell him the good news but he refused to accept that this company was responsible. Instead, he continued to pressure me to finish the job they had started, despite the Fiber optic company stating they would take care of all of the repairs. He was pressuring me to let him finish the job that day and not allow the Fiber company to do the work. I had to basically yell at him to tell him that he did not have my permission to continue anything until the Fiber company had completed their assessment. Once a full assessment was completed by the fiber company, they confirmed the damage was their responsibility and stated they would handle all repairs and work with Roto Rooter to have them reimburse my deposit and pay them for their services rendered - which was basically just digging a relief hole. Despite all of this, Bob was uncooperative and refused to accept the fiber company would do the work. He stopped by while the fiber company's excavation crew was finishing the repairs and told their foreman - "You guys stole my job." It's obvious Bob did not want this company to take responsibility, even if they had caused the damage - he would lose out on the opportunity to rip off homeowners in a dire situation. That's not all. On top of all of this, even after he was told by the fiber company that they were handling the work, he attempted to charge my credit card for the full cost of the project. I luckily had locked my card so the charge was blocked. But Bob was trying to charge me $16,000 to dig a relief. That's literally all they did. How he has the gall to charge us when someone else did all of the work is beyond me. This guy is a total crook and consumer deserve to know about his unsavory business practices. He should not have a job. Please do yourselves a favor and find a local plumber. I'm now dealing with issues to get my deposit back. What a nightmare. read more

At TEN PM, I called yet again, to be told that there were a lot of main line clean outs today, and they wouldn't get to me for hours yet, or maybe tomorrow morning. Between 8-10am. The reason I called them in the first place was the advertised "Immediate Response" in their ads. And now, at 10:15pm, I told them to cancel. I will call someone (anyone) else at 8am. I reached out to have a washing machine drain snaked. They wouldn't call the price over the phone. I've had the service done before but it was an independent guy and he had moved on. Charge me $79 for the service. After scheduling an appointment that day, I received a call later not from a plumber but a remediation service??!! He says he was following the plumber to see what other damage was caused by the issue I was experiencing. I didn't ask for this and have no desire to have for mediation work done. He said he was "just in the neighborhood". He was at the property before the plumber even showed up! Total BS. Then when the plumber arrives he gives me a quote for a straightforward line clean-out. I also found AAA Services with a $35 line clean-out. The $35 initially seemed scammy but they have amazing reviews and they're committed just fixing it or they won't even charge you that price. Very expensive for "water jet" clean-out of outdoor underground drain lines. Tech showed up and said it would be $600 per hour (!!!!) and estimated 2 hours work. Work took just over 1 hour, and he could not clean out the primary drain line for which I called them and he charged me $1200!!! Adriel (5868) came out and cleaned the line twice during his visit to ensure it was as clean as possible, and he pulled in Jon with a camera to really get to the root (ha!) of the problem. They were here for nearly two hours making sure everything was taken care of. They walked me through everything, were incredibly friendly, and gave me recommendations and practical/honest next steps that no other company has given me. Thanks Adriel!! Would never hire them again. Had a technician out to fix our sewer line. Tried to explain to him how our complicated plumbing works and he kept cutting me off and interrupting me. His name is Adam Lovato and is very condescending. Said he fixed our problem and then showed me pictures off our pipe cleaned out so we paid him. He then told me we have more problems and that it would be close to 10 grand to fix them. So we sent him on his way and got another quote. Another company came out the next day and showed us live video of our pipes still being clogged. They went ahead cleaned the pipes out for us. Obviously Adam didn't do what he said he did, because we saw the live stream from the new plumber. Reached out to Adam and he hung up on us again after being very condescending, then called his boss Ken and Ken wouldn't stop interrupting us. My mistake for ever calling this scam of company. First they showed up an hour late. I had to leave for another appointment and another mistake I made was not tell my partner that they will give an estimate first. Finally, Two employees showed up to snake a backed up shower drain ( can you say overstaffed and under performed ??) It took them ten minutes and charged me $405!!!!. We had a clogged toilet in the basement and when we plunged it, sewage was coming back in the shower. I called this company and technician Juan #3356 came out, did his thing, and said it was a 'soft clog' in the mainline. Now of course the $350.00 charge was a bit much to take, but I've never dealt with this issue so I pay. Juan was very nice and did his job, covered the wheels of his equipment with protective booties and put them on his shoes as well. I have zero issues with him. He told me someone would come out with a camera to make sure everything in the mainline was good. Fine, that sounds good. Here is where everything went south. Mike Shirey called and said he was going to do the camera. He came, and as I answered the door he noticed some patched holes in the cement. He stated that we'd had mud pumped under the concrete and that was probably causing the issues with the mainline. *I should have noted the Red Flag right here. He proceeds to bring his equipment in and says he'll run the camera from a place the technician did not access, no protective covers on his equipment wheels or his shoes. *Red Flag 2 I let him do his thing, stupid me, trusting that if there were an issue he would call me down to the basement. He did not. I saw no pictures, received no report, and honestly do not know if he even ran the camera down the mainline. He packs his stuff up and AS he is leaving he imparts the doom and gloom on me. *Red Flag 3 He tells me that my mainline needs to be descaled and that for $8,000 to $9,000 he can make my mainline like new. You cannot make cast iron 'like new'. Only I was too upset by his doom and gloom to realize this. He tells me that the scales are "like rocks" in my mainline and are going to keep clogging up. *Red Flag 4 I tell him I don't understand what he is saying and that I will have my husband call him when he gets home from work. He gives me his card and leaves. At this point I'm in a blind panic because all I heard was $9,000. Husband comes home and calls Mike. Mike starts off with the doom and gloom, not knowing that my husband happens to work for a water company, and husband shuts him down fast. Mike was trying to scam someone he assumed was an older, stupid lady out of money for a job that wasn't necessary. Now, I'm mad that I almost fell for it, I'm mad that this jerk has probably bilked someone else out of money they didn't have. I wish I would have checked out Yelp before scheduling services with Roto Rooter Denver. So, if you are here, check out all of the negative reviews that mimic this one and save yourself a huge headache! I had a 12-4 p.m. window today, Monday, November 4, 2019, that I scheduled yesterday (Sunday) at 8 a.m. (so, pretty far in advance). It's now 5 p.m. and, after many calls with dispatch, finally got an answer that the plumber is finding the job before mine 'bigger than expected' and would be here no sooner than in 2 hours from now (7 p.m.) That is a bit funny to me since dispatchers prior said they had "a few technicians in my area that will be done soon and I'm next." Since I only have one bathroom (toilet), this makes my place uninhabitable, at the moment, which I had told them yesterday. I had no issue staying at my boyfriend's place yesterday, but now I need to drive out to my parents' place after 5 hours of waiting. It's really bothersome because a 4 hour window is plenty of time. That shouldn't be too difficult to meet, especially when that person made the appt. 36 hours prior. And, I'm clearly not the only person on Yelp to experience this, so their formula here in this area is bad. I took a half day out of work to wait here to no avail. At 4:30, I luckily made an appointment with a different plumber for tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 5) at noon. They have a one-hour window. Take my advice and find a place with great ratings and a one hour window so you don't waste most of your day like I did. The customer service is absolutely rotten and Roto Rooter barely offered a half apology for the 'slight delay.' Of 3 hours...If I were to wait and it actually was 3 hours late, which I highly doubt at this point. Other people here are saying they waited until 8, 9 and 10 p.m. or, worse, a complete no-show. That would be my fate if I weren't to throw in the towel and, fortunately, have another place to be and an issue that wasn't absolutely catastrophic and damaging. Other reviews are carbon copy of this. Maybe, Roto Rooter take note of these complaints? And respect people's time, even just slightly. Thanks for reading. read more

If I could give this company zero stars, I would. They have the worst customer service and organization that I can imagine. I had an appointment for someone to meet me between 4:30-5:00 on Friday at my house to inspect my bathtub drain. They told me that they'd give me a 30 minute heads up call. I called and customer service could not connect me with dispatch. They told me that there was no way to know when they were coming. Then, at 8:30 that night, they called to say somebody may be coming later. I told them that it was late and we have young children, but they insisted that someone may come. Of course, nobody did. Then, tonight, they have been calling incessantly to ask if they can send someone some time tonight. On a Saturday night. They are terrible, waste your time, and don't know how to conduct their business. read more
