Absolute scammers Septic line was backing into house so I called roto-rooter to find the clog. Came and ran a camera through our pipe and told us no clog and that the septic needed to be pumped. Cost $307 for that sage advice.Then called septic pumper who came out and checked the septic, told us the septic wasn't the issue, that cost us another $300, but hey at least my septic is empty now. Went to harbor freight and bought a drain snake for $14 bucks and fixed the issue myself. Don't trust these idiots. read more

Early on a recent Saturday morning my water heater began leaking. I called several plumbers without luck (I guess due to the week-end). Ultimately I called Roto-Rooter. They responded promptly, came and bid the job, and did a very professional job of replacing the failed water heater. So, what is the reason for my low rating. They charged $3450. for putting in a unit which came from Home Depot and costs about $850. There was about two hours of work by a two-man team, so four "plumber hours" of labor. The bill was not itemized, but I'm sure that there was an upcharge for the week-end service. I knew what the charge would be, but was "over the barrel" and needed to stop any ongoing damage, so I took the financial beating. I just feel strongly that their charges were predatory, and that potential customers should be aware of what they may be facing when contracting Roto-Rooter Plumbers for work. Needed an expert second opinion for my main sewer drain issue after my first "Rooter" company failed to clear the blockage. Roto-Rooter cleared the clog in about 20 minutes. Jessie, the Quality Assurance Specialist, ran the camera down the line to confirm the blockage was cleared and provided some very valuable information about probable causes for the issue. Jessie followed up the same day with a quote for the remediation work needed to permanently resolve the issue. The cost of the initial service was only about $40 more than I had been quoted from other companies and from what the first, failed company had charged. If I need this service again, I will call Roto-Rooter first instead of second. read more

We called them because our water bill trippled and we were not sure why. He showed up, charged us $140 for the visit. He told us we don't have a water pressure regulator but needed one desperately. He said this costs thousands of dollars but he'd give us a deal, only $1300. My husband found the regulator this morning. He replaced it for $40. We still don't know why our water bill is so high. I called to have our drain pipe reinstalled in our kitchen sink. The employee showed up and want to charge me $475.00 to install the drain. After I told him that was excessive he said that is the charge in the book. Then he aske me how much am I willing to pay! That up set me as I am not going to nogiciate a price. I've had Roto-Rooter come by twice over the years to give estimates on plumbing work, not to unclog drains. 1st: several years ago we were having a sink installed upstairs. RR gave us an estimate of over $5000. We got it done for under a thousand. 2nd: recently had a basement plumbing issue. RR guy immediately on arrival says, "These old houses always need really expensive repairs, so I'm just letting you know up front." Then instead of going to the basement to check out the problem, he puts a camera in the outdoors cleanout and tries to convince me that we need all the pipes running from the foundation to the street replaced and it'll be anywhere between $30,000 to $60,000! WTH! Again, got the job done by another company for $1500. I suspect these RR guys work on commission and are constantly trying to upsell. I'll NEVER call them again. read more

Our water heater gave our on December 23rd. I called them to come and see what is going on. They were at the house within the hour and determined the heater needed to be replaced. I agreed, and the technician went to the warehouse, got it, and came back. Uninstalled the old one and put the new one in under 2 hours. The thing about the heater installation, is it had to be inspected by a city inspector. We set up the appointment and the inspector said the installation had to be redone. Also said he would notify the company, and guess what? He never did. I eventually called them, explained what the inspector said. They came back and redid the pipes in under an hour. They said there won't be a second inspection from the city. Fast forward to April, I get a call from the company that there was a ticket for some faulty installation and they wanted to do the work. I told them it had already been done, and all we needed was the city inspector to check it out. They instead sent the technician back" facepalm" due to some sort of miscommunication. All in all, the inspector came, heater installation passed. One thing I would mention. Keep up with follow up service, even if they say it won't need to happen (ie second inspection from the city). read more

Here's the good news, Roto-Rooter will always be there for you. Always. But the bad news is you better have Roto-Rooter money. I don't get it...RR is to the local plumber what Wal-Mart is to the local shop. Or they should be anyway. Shouldn't they be able to offer the most competitive pricing? No? A couple of days ago, the hose on our sink faucet went haywire and after making multiple trips to Lowe's and Home Depot it became clear that the only thing to do was call a plumber that could order the exact part we needed. RR it is! My boyfriend scheduled an appointment for a free estimate today so all I had to do was sit here and wait for them to arrive. Major points for arriving on time and calling a few minutes before they were on their way. The serviceman/plumber/jack-of-all-trades arrived and was very polite and professional. He asked a couple of questions about the sink and I told him what was happening. He did seem a little hesitant to actually touch anything, which I understand... but then at the same time I feel like the consult was unnecessary because he was basing his estimate off of what I was telling him. Probably could've done this over the phone. After taking a quick look he said something about the hose not being connected and I tried to inform him multiple times that my boyfriend disconnected it after trying to replace it with what was supposed to be a universal hose. He then let me know that the first thing he would be doing would be to reconnect the hose to see if that fixed the issue. I get it, people can be stupid sometimes, forget the easiest fixes so no biggie since it takes less than 10 minutes to do. But then he said that "service" would cost $189. That's no parts... he'd literally just be reconnecting the hose that needs to be replaced... for $189. Uh, no thanks. He was nice enough to offer a discount, but it wasn't substantial enough to justify 10-20 minutes of work. He did make it sound like the $189 was the standard for any amount of work they do so if I had a job that would take about 5 hours this would totally be a steal. Parts are obviously inflated in price as well so I'd probably only use RR in a serious bind. Although I felt like he wasn't actually listening to me and what the real issue was, his professionalism never wavered and that alone earned RR the second star. read more

This place is overpriced. They replaced a couple of seals from my shower and it turns out that it was just the knob that needed replacement. I was charged $400 for this bs work. So I have new seals (washers) without needing them. Never again. read more

Great service, Edgar fully explained everything and fixed the foundation leak, do yourself a favor and Call RR first. I called four other plumbers i found on Home Advisor, and not one of them actually pinpointed the leak like RR did. RR used infrared and some other sonar to find the exact location of the leak. Every other contractor used the old guessing game, also every contractor gave me a quote on how to fix a leak that none of them actually found, I will be using RR from now on! read more

I used them to fix clogs, and they were great. One guy pointed out that I needed a new sink in my bathroom, and when I got it, I should call and they'd put it in for me. I called this morning and was so rudely told that they would not put the sink in. They will do the pipes but anything that is not a pipe they won't do, including bolting a sink to a wall. Yes, I asked this directly, because I was so surprised. I asked them why they don't just say "we don't install anything" because part of the word "install" means "affix" which means bolting the sink to the wall, and words have meaning. He was rude talking to me like I'm some crazy woman. I am not calling them again. read more

He also seemed to to be phishing for more ways to capitalize on my requests for simply unclogging my kitchen sink. He asked if he could see my restroom, after I explained specifically what I needed, I thought I had that right as a paying customer. He also asked what I had been putting down my drain, "does that matter?" He is there to fix the problem not investigate what went wrong, and by the way my 86 year old mother is so strict, we do not put grease etc. down that drain, we wipe all our dishes or she will kill me. Roto-Rooter, WOW back in the old days they used to be a practical efficient solution, I don't know where they went wrong, too BIG now I guess. I had these guys out to my rental because the tenants were complaining about the garbage disposal. My regular guy never responded so I gave up and decided to just go with these guys. While scheduling was a breeze and they were out to fix the problem within two hours, I was a bit frustrated with the price. I was charged $189 for a clogged garbage disposal ..... Crazy. Needless to say I will try my best to stay away from these prices, but when in an emergency I guess you can count on them. read more

Don't let their name mislead you. If you want cheap go somewhere else. These are master licensed plumbers doing complicated plumbing jobs. Call George the handyman if all you want is a snake run through a clean out. We called them for a routine clogged drain. Turned out that our 60 year old pipes made of cast iron had corroded, cracked and broken under our foundation. So major work began after insurance assessment and approval. The RR team was polite, professional and highly technically competent. They worked very hard and long hours to get the work done quickly since we had to bail to a hotel during nights while I sat alone in the house during the workday. Doggie couldn't handle the jackhammer noise. It was expensive even with insurance help but the work is guaranteed-parts and labor for 15 years. The work is complete, all is normal at Casa Morrow and we couldn't be happier with the work they did. I will highly recommend Roto Rooter Plumbing for all your needs. And no they are not the Walmart of plumbers. They are the Nordstrom's. read more

I had a front yard leak whose source was easily identified by myself. It was not a gusher, but released enough water to warrant a rapid response. To quote Tanya W. "Roto Rooter will always be there for you....but the bad news is you better have Roto-Rooter money". $$$$$. totally agree with her post. Timely response to my problem. Quoted $750 for the repair. I sighed deeply and gave authorization. The serviceman "excavated" my small yard rock, dug up the dirt in a small area to reveal my shallow buried piping, found a small hole in the existing copper pipe, repaired it with a 5 inch section of thicker pipe, then closed the yard defect. 'Excavation" fee was $550 for what I was told took 90-120 min max. That is minimum of $275/hour to move rock and dig up a small section of pipe and close the defect alone !! Wow, I may quit my job as a Doctor and take up plumbing. Service person never bothered to sweep up dirt on sidewalk from water runoff, or return my ceramic bowl to my hands that I used to bail water at the cut off valve. Poor attention to the details. Successful repair, so I now move on and eat out less for a while. read more

I have called Roto-Rooter three times in the past year and a half about a leaking kitchen sink. What a nightmare! Every single person they send out has a horrible attitude. If it were just one person I would chalk it up to just a bad experience but three different people on three different occasions? Do not call roto-rooter, unless you want to be swindled! Our very old water heater has just now started to fail (we were lucky). We've sought quotes from the following vendors: Home Depot, Lowe's, Sears, C&S Plumbing, Two Horses and few others. The quotes were between $650 - $900 (including the water heater, parts, labor and the City permit). Roto Rooter sent out Journeyman Plumber Jose De Avila who provided the ridiculous and insulting quote of $1608.00, of which $975 was the labor charge (awfully proud of himself). This is my first YELP review...I honestly felt a duty to warn all others...If this guys shows up laugh hardily then slam the door on him. My friend and I changed out a garbage disposal in my kitchen sink. Unfortunately, we did something wrong (don't know exactly what we did) and low and behold, there was a leak. After failed attempts at fixing it, we had to admit that we had no idea what we were doing. So I called Roto Rooter. The lady that I spoke with was very pleasant and professional. I explained what my friend and I had done and she had a service tech at my home in 30 minutes. The Tech's name was Ricardo. What impressed me even before Ricardo stepped into my house was that he put coverings over his shoes so he didn't trek dirt on my carpets. Ricardo was awesome- before he began any work, he explained what we had done wrong, but in a very professional way (while showing me where the leak was coming from). He fixed the problem in 20 minutes and ran a couple of tests to make sure that the pipes were not leaking before he left.
