I have the best I vision insurance and when I was getting checked out the Doctor Who was really nice asked me if I had allergies. I said yes I've had horrible allergies and she told me to get some thing that she said it's over-the-counter. She wrote down the name of the over-the-counter medicine. When I was checking out, they try to charge me 50 bucks plus billing my insurance for a medical issue. Which was never discussed at all while I was seeing the doctor. Frantic Dad moment; so this morning, I made an urgent appointment for my son (he's 10 years old) at Round Rock Eyes; we were placed on Dr. Quintanilla schedule immediately. What happened: Well, after a weekend camping trip that included a fire pit, apparently there was some aluminum shrapnel that seeped out from the fire (maybe from an aluminum can, foil or something similar) and got embedded in his eye. The last couple days he's been in terrible pain; super sensitive to light and missed two days of school After a thorough check and understanding of the issue, Dr. Quintanilla was able to get the participle removed from the eye and made my son feel confident that he'd be okay. I was very impressed with Dr. Quintanilla; in particular, her professionalism, knowledge, and she took the time to explain everything to me in detail and answered all of my questions patiently about my son and his well being. My fiance and I dropped in one evening to look at new glasses for him since he has damaged his old ones. Upon walking in the receptionist asked if she could help us and he tells her he would like to check out their frames. "Do you have insurance?," she asks. "Yes, xyz insurance." Perfect. "Do you have a current prescription?" "No, we are just here to look at frames. If we find ones we like I could get an exam here" She says, "Oh I need to make you an appointment with our optometrist" "So I can't just look at your frames?", he asked. "No you can't," she says. Of course we walked out. What kind of place doesn't allow you to even look at their frames prior to making an appointment? Not one we want to spend our $ at, that's for sure!! read more

We have been going here since 2018 when, on a routine exam, Dr. Quintanilla found keratoconus (a medical corneal eye condition that causes a rippled cornea) on my 15 year old son. She thoroughly examined and mapped his corneal topography and found the keratoconus, we then found a corneal eye surgeon who performed successful Corneal Cross-linking surgery in both eyes. Dr. Quintanilla has been handling his scleral contacts now since 2018 (needed in addition to the surgery to allow him to see). He is all "medical" insurance and Celinda has successfully negotiated with our insurance for the past 7 years. This office is professional, friendly and helpful. Dr. Quintanilla is amazing and very knowledgeable. If it weren't for her "catch" and the quick treatment, he was able to avoid corneal transplants and can see. They do do a lot of testing- if you come in for glasses or contacts- but there is a reason they do this testing and my son is a perfect example of why. Gone to this doctor since I moved to the area in 2018. I've had glasses / contacts for 20+ years so I have a good idea how a eye appt should go. #1 Front staff sent me incorrect glasses prescriptions in 2018. Portal is tied up to a system that's connected to a dentist office so a few calls back and forth to get my prescription are required. Repeat process for contacts. #2 Eye tech guided me to machines during my routine exams that cost $$$ and are not covered by insurance under the guise this was a typical exam process. At this stage my contacts are removed and I can't see (-6.25 prescription). I tell him I don't recognize this machine and he assured me this is a standard machine. I repeat I just want to do the basic eye exam and nothing more. That's one way to take advantage of a client I guess... #3 Front staff charged me incorrectly in 2020. #4 Front staff conveniently did not document when they charged me incorrectly in 2020. #5 Front staff cancels Monday 8am morning appts at Friday at 5pm with a voicemail in 2021. When I call office manager claims its because of item #2/3/4 #6 Front staff tries to explain how an eye exam works and demands I get dilated or pay extra $ retinal scan annually (other review responses from owner says their script indicates its 'highly suggested' but oh boy that is NOT what they said to me). Anyone who has glasses knows you don't need dilation EVERY YEAR and that you can't drive yourself after dilation. Then everyone would need a personal driver to take them home! The alternative for them apparently is to force patients to do an elective procedure - not covered by insurance to gauge extra money. Doctor was nice enough but the staff is just too difficult to deal with. There are plenty of other locations around. I thought about having a call with the doctor and then just said screw it its simply not worth it. read more

I went for a standard eye exam to get a new prescription. Everyone there was nice and kind, but I've never in my 30 years of having eye exams have had some many things go wrong. My prescription from my current glasses was read wrong and another patient's eye measurements was some how attached to my chart which meant I did an entire eye exam I constantly mentioning that I was seeing double or the letters were skewed. I ended up showing them my current prescription just so we could get close to what I needed. Once they redid the machine portion of the exam and redid the eye exam the Dr. Was going to send me on my way, but I asked how my axis in my left eye moved so dramatically from the last time (21 to 180) So she just typed a 20 to be closer to the 21 from my previous prescription... and then moved down the prescription to also be closer to my current prescription. Again everyone was nice about all the errors and worked to correct it when I brought it up but it's WILD to me that it took me mentioning all those issues for it to be resolved. Would 100% not recommend coming here. I'm not confident that the prescription that was typed in at the end of the visit is even correct now. Update: They had to call me for my address for insurance even though I entered it on an iPad they made me fill out forms for while in the office. This. Place. Is. A. Mess. read more

I truly value the convenience of scheduling online. There were many appointments to choose from which was nice. However beware when you schedule online you will get a ton of emails and texts confirming and reconfirming your appointment and asking to call about insurance. Just send one email with all the information. The place is really nice. It's clean and bright. My appointment when smoothly. I didn't wait a long time maybe 5 minutes. I was in and out in 30 minutes which is really nice and rare. Dr Quintanilla was very kind and took the time to get to know me and answer my questions. I know it's their job to try to sell glasses but I didn't have the time nor the money at this time of year to get new glasses so I opted out which I felt like the optician was a little rude when I told her politely not today. I was there for new glasses prescriptions and scheduled an appointment with the optometrist there. She was great. But when I was trying to pick my frame the front desk lady took forever to let me know what my insurance would cover what type of frames... so as I was looking for my frames aimlessly not knowing how much I'm gonna spend... they magically figured it out after i was ready to check out. I ended up spending over $200 for a frame.... And they don't have a friendly customer service at all and the whole time I was there felt like I was at a funeral. read more

This place is to be avoided at all costs. I purchased two pair of higher end frames from them, and was literally back in their shop with problems with both pairs every other week - sometimes every week. The frames were extremely cheaply made and kept breaking and the lenses kept falling out. I finally asked if I could just return the glasses and go elsewhere. They claimed that my insurance company my wouldn't let me. I actually don't believe that, but didn't have time to verify. They offered me a lower end pair of glasses and stated that I might even get a refund. Of course, the refund wasn't forthcoming. I initially went to this place because they were close by and they were spamming me with advertisements. It was a very bad choice on my part. We have been going to this practice for several years and have never had a problem until recently. On Friday, 8/17/2018 I called for a routine exam but there was no answer. I called again with the same result. I checked their website to see if they have a lunch hour as some medical offices do. Their website features an online appointment tool. I made my appointment (for 11:40am) based on a list of open slots. I then realized I had a work meeting during that time and decided to book it for a later time (2pm). The appointment tool didn't give an option to cancel so I called and left a message to keep my 2pm and cancel the 11:40. I received an email confirming the 2pm appointment so I thought all was well. On Monday I received a VM that they were canceling the 11:40 as requested but there was no 2pm and they were all booked up. I called and was told what they said in their message. They also said their phones were not working properly since the move. I then forwarded the email confirmation and was told it was a confirmation that I "requested" an appointment. It states clearly that my appointment was confirmed including the doctor's name and that it was 2pm. No effort was made to accommodate their mix up. I will now have to find a new optometrist for my family. read more

Round Rock Eyes is the BEST place near Austin for an eye exam! I've been to countless optometrists near Round Rock and the entire experience at Round Rock Eyes was top notch. Great customer service from start to finish, optometrists that truly care, beautiful location with brand new equipment, and a great selection of glasses make this the best place for optometry and eye Care near cedar Park and round Rock. I needed to update my contact prescription and get new glasses so I scheduled to have my eye exam here. I had to reschedule my original appointment, and their front desk and scheduling staff were awesome, fast, and accommodating. They sent me the new patient paperwork before hand so check-in was a breeze. I was greeted by Dr Hamilton and one of their optometry specialists, Jonathan, helped me through my initial eye exam. This part was fast and easy. By that I mean they used current equipment and didn't dilate my eyes or even blow in them. Took 5 to 10 mins. Jonathan was great too. Dr Hamilton then sat down with me and thoroughly went through figuring out my prescription. He was great - easy going, explained complex terms in a simple way, and you could tell he cared about getting me in the right contacts and glasses. Again, never had to wait. He ended up sending me home with 2 contact lenses to try so I could choose the right one. I then called his office the next week, ordered the contacts I liked, and they shipped them to my house. Again, saved me time. As for glasses, this is the place to go. They had a crazy amount of frames to choose from. I'm super picky so this was the first optometry office where I found several glasses that worked. Eye exam start to finish was 25 minutes with great service. Can't beat that! read more

Wow, just got an amazing response to my negative review about this business from Brett H. It was obvious he was upset that I complained to my insurance company. "I got a call from your your insurance company and I really enjoyed that. Thanks!" Unbelievable. My insurance company will hear about this unprofessional response as well Brett. He said that I was never told I had to buy my glasses from them if I had my exam there. That is a lie. When I was told I had to purchase my glasses there, I even confirmed what I was just told. Brett said I was told "we strongly suggest..." Wrong! This was an obvious attempt to recoup money they lost during the quarantine. Brett tried to say it was to avoid the spread of the virus. Huh?!?! Funny that wasn't mentioned when I was called and advised I had to buy from them. Brett also said I told the person who called me that I wanted to shop around. That's a lie too. After confirming what I was just told my response was "cancel my appointment." I wonder if Brett saw the response to my post saying they got the same call. This review is only about their process since they seemed friendly and I have no doubt as to their competence. I didn't make it into the exam room, so I will not/cannot critique that. I haven't had an eye exam since I retired from the military 6 years ago. So, I made an appointment as close as I could get which was about a week and a half in advance. The appointment was at 11, so I showed up at 10:57. I had already completed all my forms online so I just checked in and waited. A lady came in about two minutes after me (note the AFTER part), checked in and was almost immediately called back to her exam. At 11:15, I asked if I was incorrect about my appointment being at 11 and was told that I was correct but they only had one exam area so it would just be a little longer. After returning to my seat and waiting until 11:20, I decided it would be better for everyone if I just found a different eye doctor so I informed the receptionist and left. I am not sure what the processes are, but I see no reason why I should have had to wait when my day was also busy. I understand running behind, but then everyone should run behind - not just pick one patient and make him wait. If you only have one exam area, then only book one patient at a time. I am posting two stars to be fair (and one stars are for the worst, in my opinion). They were courteous, even though I do feel my time was apparently less important to them. Not happy!!! I have been a loyal client of this place for over 20 years. I recently decided to get a name brand pair of glasses (costing over $600) and a fancy pair of reading glasses (costing over $300). First off, I was given the wrong prescription for my reading glasses. They had to send them back to the lab and I had to wait weeks for them to come back. Then, my regular glasses came in and they had the reading glasses prescriptions in them! I then waited another couple weeks for that that issue to be fixed. When the glasses finally did come back, they were defective, with scratches on the coating on the lenses. Another trip to the lab! Now, my prescription glasses have small circular scratches on the lenses. I am so confused how the quality is so poor when the cost is so high here! I have to say that the front staff and the girl that helped me order the glasses were super nice and apologetic through this whole process BUT this has gotten over-the-top ridiculous. The reason I stay at this place is because of my optometrist Dr. Quintanilla. She is the reason I am giving 2 stars. I can't recommend this place. While the Dr.'s prescription was correct, the follow-up on the eyeglasses was terrible. After wearing the new glasses for a week, I discovered that they slide down forward and also dig into the sides of my head and bridge of the nose. This is not something that you can determine by trying on lenses at the office. When I first picked up the glasses and noticed the sliding problem, the optician did nothing. I tried adding non-slip pads for a week, but that didn't help. So I came back a couple of weeks later and she adjusted the side pieces so that they fit a little better. But she told me that there was nothing that they could do about the nose bridge situation. So here I sit with a pair of expensive glasses, that I probably won't wear. I guess I could take the RX and order a nice pair from Roka, but that's more money out of pocket. Do these folks not realize that glasses are something that you have to live with every single day? read more

I've been a client of Round Rock Eyes and Dr. Brett Hamilton for over a decade, so I have a lot of material to review, I'll sub-header it to make it easy to skim. PERSONAL CARE The number one thing that I am blown away by is the personal care Dr. Hamilton takes for his patients. I walked in today for the first time in over three years, and he immediately recognized me and struck up a conversation with me about my family and my work with extreme recall and detail, as if I had just been in his office last month. With the multitude of clients that he has, to have that level of personal relationship even when I'd not been a customer for three years blows me away. STAFF In my most recent visit to Round Rock Eyes, I had interaction with six separate staff members, and there was a consistent level of connection, attentiveness, care, and professionalism in each staff member. I was impressed at the quality of employee across the board -- from doctors to technicians to receptionists to salespeople. I've always had positive experiences with their staff over time, but as they've expanded over the past three years, I was impressed that the quality of personnel maintained such a high standard over a growing team. To give some point of reference, in the past, I've had great connection with certain staff members to the point where when I came in, I still remembered the name of one of their employees I met five years ago, which felt unusual, as I don't tend to have that connection at other establishments. FACILITIES Some time over the past three years they moved to a new facility, and --wow-- it is beautiful. The interior is well-designed, impeccably clean, spacious, and has a nice flow between the sections for testing, fitting, exams, etc. I felt comfortable and delighted in the space. SPEED OF SERVICE I have never waited for an appointment over the 10+ years I've been a customer. My exams are efficient, and I've always been surprised and satisfied with the speed of service. COMMUNICATION As a business, they handle their communication protocol with intentionality. They have text alerts for appointments and messages, which is very helpful. They also have events and discounts they send via email, which I appreciate because it's never long, it's not too often, and it's valuable to me. It feels handled with care, at the appropriate intervals, and with relevant information. Both text and email alerts are handled professionally. QUALITY OF PRODUCT Another thing that stands out to me is the level of care that Dr. Hamilton uses to ensure that I get the /right/ product for my eyes. I've got a problem with my contacts drying out and becoming uncomfortable. I remember one time in my contact-lens journey, he helped test me through three different pairs of contacts. I'd take them home, try them out, until I found the right pair for my eyes, which felt like an incredible blessing, because I had finally solved my dry-eyes problem. To be able to see without having to hard-blink to reset my fuzziness was a gift. And for him to offer patience and understanding and hope in the process was helpful. OVERALL I feel individually seen and valued as a customer by Dr. Hamilton and all staff. I enjoy the facilities, product, and communications from the business. I won't be back. My first pair of glasses were ordered with Transitions lenses. They came without. I also ordered the progressive lenses with the wider field of view and was upcharged for them appropriately. Then when they came in I was refunded that amount. I don't actually know if I got the correct ones because I always hated them. So, as far as I'm concerned the upcharge was probably refunded because the lenses didn't have the wider field. I just don't know. My second pair came in with the wrong shape lenses. I was originally told the trifocals were covered with no additional cost. Before picking up I'm told they are $38 more. (The reason being that they supposedly don't know what the price is going to be until their final work up of the total. So, then what are you looking at when you look at my insurance on the computer?) Because the wrong shape was ordered they had to redo, no charge of course. I added Transitions then because I realized I'd be wearing them more than the last ones that I hated. How much? $58. Hmmm, I should have asked how much when I was there. I'd have gotten them then. Lenses come in. $67. So, here's my point - I don't know what I'm going to get when I go there. I don't know what's going to change from what I was told. 2 glasses, 2 mistakes. 2 times waiting for the right ones to come in. 2 times finding out the price was different from what I was told. Before they hand you the glasses they don't check what you ordered against what came in and tell you this is what you ordered, this is what we have. Or don't have. I know I got the transitions. I know I got the anti-glare. Did I get the better anti-glare and the sharper focused HD lenses I paid for? I do not know. Look, if this happened once, ok. But when what you expect to happen keeps changing you begin to wonder. You question their ability to do it right. Sure, people make mistakes. Maybe one was the lab and one was the optician. But what are the chances of this happening to the same person back to back with several issues each time? And if you don't know what the price will be until it's all said and done then tell that to the customer up front! When I told the optician I wouldn't be back all she said was, "I'm sorry you feel that way." Nothing else. Really? Really. You think she would have asked why. I imagine she thought it was over $9. My past two visits here have been exceptional! The staff is always so friendly and willing to lend a helping hand. I also purchase my eye glasses from this particular location. Dr. Quintanilla has been my optometrist since day one. She is very funny and easy to get along with. The wait has never been more than 10 or 15 minutes. If you order glasses from there, you will typically receive them in less than two weeks. WARNING: This is going to be lengthy, but I promise worth the read!! I have been legally blind for as long as I can remember... 20 years at least. I'm 33, I have been to optometrist after optometrist in this time and I have always been told my only option is gas permeable lenses or toric lenses due to my astigmatism. To my surprise today, I found out it's ALL been LIES! Lol... ok maybe not lies, but NEVER once did I have an optometrist take the time to help me the way Dr. Quintanilla has today!! I know my vision and eyes, I'm sure can be a challenge because of how bad they are. But she took the time to show me the images of my eyes, assured me that my eyes are healthy, I'm just blind. (Lol) My concern is that in the past year my right eye has gotten much worse. Dr. Quintanilla took the time to explain to me the possible causes of why. After going through all the tests, she said they make SOFT contact lenses that will better correct my vision. (For those of you who don't know, soft contacts are MUCH more comfortable to wear daily. I've been wearing -12 in both eyes for EVER because I've always been told that's as high as they go.) Round Rock Family Eye Care even had them in stock!!!!! When I heard her say that in the hall way, I immediately got excited!! Never would a place have -15 IN STOCK at hand.. why? Are there really other people out there as blind as I am?!? I thought I was a rarity! But could not be happier that they had them in stock! I put these new, stronger contacts in and immediately noticed I wasn't squinting!! I no longer have to wear glasses on top of my contacts to see!!! I am posting this because this establishment not only deserves the recommendation, but I feel Dr. Quintanilla went above and beyond for me! Like seriously, I hugged her AND cried!! No one will ever understand my struggle with my vision and to see clearly, words cannot truly express how I feel!! Dr. Quintanilla ordered some trial contacts that she think we can sharpen my vision even more and honestly, I cannot wait for my follow up appointment! And I truly have never said that before!!! He also added that he held a meeting with his team to ensure that this does not occur in the future. He strives to provide a high level of service. I am disappointed after asking for military discounts and other sales if I bought a second pair. The sales associate was very friendly and led me to believe that because she was prior military that she was looking out for my best interest. She offered me 20 % off my second pair. When I picked up my glasses, I had an offer in the bag for 40% off a second pair. I went back for an adjustment the today and mentioned it to the same associate and she said that it was the same day purchase. Whatever that means. So Round Rock Eye is going to lose my future business and I had just referred my wife to go there due to the great experience with Dr. Quintanilla and the rest of the very helpful and accommodating staff. After 29 years with the same optometrist, I will be severing my relationship. Round Rock Eyes took my insurance and my money to the tune of $800 and when I drove from Georgetown to pick up my glasses they insisted I had a balance due of $87 even though my receipt reflected a zero balance. I asked that the $87 dollars be billed, so I would not have to make a return trip and they refused. I'm a teacher. I gave up my conference period to pick up my glasses. If they had let me know during my calls to check on the status of my glasses that I would have a balance I would have brought a credit card, but they did not. Doctor's are fine, but this feels more like a 'sales' organization than eye care. A few months ago, our dog chewed on our daughter's glasses - one arm - of a pair of Ray Bans (a fairly popular brand and style) - and we took it in to see if they could replace the arm. Well, they couldn't replace the arm (of a standard pair of Ray Bans - which we would have gladly paid for) but not to worry, our daughter was due for an eye exam soon and we could buy a new pair. That seemed a little suspect to me, but ok. Next, we have spent several hundred dollars throughout the year on contacts for me and my son. I last ordered lenses for for my son in July and he had a dramatic change in prescription in one eye. I still had one un-opened box of contacts and took them in to see about trading them. Nope, the box had a crease in it and so they couldn't send it back to the vendor - the reality is - they moved locations between the time I ordered the contacts and the time I picked them up...maybe the box got creased then? Who knows? Inspecting the boxes was not part of my criteria when I picked them up. I can't imagine their cost for the box was more than 30.00 but will cost considerably more in our business. This month, the rest of my family (four of us) are going to Costco for our eye exams and will buy our glasses and contacts there. We know if we need to return or repair anything, we will be taken care of. I do like to support small business but in this case, it doesn't make sense. read more

The one star is for Doctor Maria who is good. The worst is the billing and front desk who make sure that they give the best possible horrible experience possible by disconnecting your calls and place you on hold as long as they can. When you go for any service, they run your insurance and ask you to pay the balance or deductible. After 2-3 weeks you get another bill asking you to pay remaining since they have miscalculated. this happens every year. The only saving grace is the doctor who provides a better service but the other department ruins the whole purpose of visiting their office. read more

I've been going to Oak Hill Eye Care for a very long time but moved up to round rock last year and just didn't want to drive so far south! I Found Round Rock Eyes just through my insurance and made an appointment. I had gotten a prescription about 6 months ago from a different doctor that I felt like was too strong and was hoping the OD would agree! I did decline dilation and the retinal scan since I had not had any changes to my vision and thought the staff was friendly and quick! I saw Dr Quintanilla, She was so friendly and immediately agreed she felt like my prescription was off and corrected it perfectly! So refreshing to have a doctor listen and agree with you! My insurance covered my exam but she did check the fitting of my contacts when I put the new rx in. This was called the "contact lens Evaluation" which my insurance only covered 15% off so had to pay $80 which I didn't expect but they did let me know I would have to pay it next time too which was good to know for the future. Ordered a year of contacts and got a rebate card for money back and was out the door within the hour! read more
