Since the Gretna Breaux Mart has decided to close up shop, this is now going to be my regular grocery stop. I love this Rouses. It's a better "fresher" than the Belle Chasse Hwy. location, they have great stock of items, and the place is clean and organized. I was here most recently for one of the cheap $7 king cakes they have and I was not left disappointed. They have a whole variety from plain to filled and they're a good size for the price. Look, not every king cake can be a $25 king cake, especially when the season lasts two months. Rouses king cake will satisfy any king cake craving you might have. I also like that Rouses has a large deli selection, a really nice beer selection and they even have a place where you can "build your own" poke bowl. That's convenient, since poke is the new super-cool thing and there are no places dedicated to the stuff anywhere on the Westbank. First time here. Looks great walking in. Clean, fruits and veggies look great. Walked around to get my bearings. Came across a customer asking an employee if they had more cucumbers. He said he didn't work produce, but he would check. I happened to see a giant box and loose ones (3 for a dollar) in the inside door when you walk in, with tomatoes and avocados. So, I told her. Stood at deli counter for about 10 minutes while the deli person was on the phone (she did see me, and said nothing). Walked away. They have shelves stocked nicely. Got in line, and boy oh boy.... slowness ensued. Also, as with most Rouses, they don't know how to bag. No, I don't want my salad on top of my hot food. Nor the raw chicken in with other stuff. Don't want the sharp corners of my soymilk in a single bag with a couple of OJ bottles (it ripped). read more

One of the many grocery stores here in NOLA and although they're not my absolute favorite, I am a frequent flyer. I'm really in and out because I'm focused on what I need. I will say, Rouses do have great sales too. Their cabbage was $.28 a pound for New Year's and I loaded up. The sushi is also very fresh and delish! Now, what I didn't know is that their deli makes amazing food. The salad bar has lots of options, the hot food bar has breakfast in the morning and lunch in the afternoon and the fried chicken is da bomb. It's very juicy, well seasoned and fried to perfection. Now I'm thinking about the chicken festival. I cannot wait to go the Fried Chicken Festival; I digress but New Orleans has a festival for just about anything you can think of. Rouses: The produce is fresh but is a bit on the pricey side. I like to buy most of my produce in bulk and freeze them so I go to Restaurant Depot. We live in the Pontalba on Jackson Square, so we are a half block walk from the Royal Street Rouses where we're already frequent shoppers. But hubby happened to be out in Gretna, and decided to stop by this much larger branch. Among his purchases - two small containers of gumbo, ready made. He brought these home, and we added some large shrimp, and boiled up a pot of rice. Gotta tell you: terrific. Since we are 'gumbo snobs", we are pretty damn fussy. I was surprised that anything prepared and sold by a large market could be this good. Gold stars!!! read more

I've given this Rouse's location several chances to impress me like their stores on Baronne and Tchoupitoulas consistently do, but it continues to fall short. It's fine for the basics, but if the groceries you're "makin" include anything remotely gourmet, head to the CBD or Uptown. No grass-fed beef, here! Even the customer service is in a different league. You're not likely to be greeted with the familiar, "Welcome to Rouse's" here, nor will you be offered the great paper bags with handles you've come to expect from the other locations. They may, or may not have them (depends on the day), but they'll default to the crappy plastic bags that you get at lessor grocery stores. What gives, Rouse's? If I wanted mediocre, I'd go to Winn Dixie. I expect more, based on the shopping experience that i know you're capable of delivering. read more

The Gretna Rouses location is nicely sized, and has a very respectable selection and sales you don't need any special membership for. It also isn't the best shopping experience, with baskets nowhere to be found when I dropped in, and most of the checkout lanes closed even on a weekend. Some might say there's a conflict between self-checkout lanes and giving people jobs, but at Rouses they seem to do neither. read more

Every visit to Rouses Supermarkets is different for each location. At this particular location the crew on the floor they are always knowledgeable of their products and where to find them. This morning was pretty hectic for me and I was looking for an item that had been moved. Ms. Stephanie out in produce was a great help. I barely knew the name of the product but just off of my description she knew exactly what I wanted. Now all she needs to do is give the girls in the bakery and deli a lesson in customer service, and this would definitely be a 5 star location. read more

I needed a bouquet for a wedding within an hour. I went to a florist in Westwego (who by the way didnt have one FLOWER ON DISPLAY!! But thats another review)who was NO HELP!!! She pretty much just laughed in my face and showed me the door. In a panic with only 45 min left until the ceremony I decided to stop into Rouses. Thank goodness I did. The florist there was SO HELPFUL and polite. She made a beautiful bouquet with 3 types of flowers. It matched the wedding PERFECTLY!! The florist was in the middle of making another floral arrangement but put that aside to help me. She was patient, kind and truly worked against the clock. I asked her name but in a rush to the register I forgot it. I think it was Clarissa. I highly suggest getting all floral arrangements from Rouses in Gretna!! Forgot to place a sandwich tray order for my Halloween party tonight. Yikes! After making a few calls on the fly, i ran over to Rouses! Not only are they cheaper than winn dixie, piggly wiggly, and budget saver... they even made fresh sandwiches because i needed some without mayo. This was the ugliest finger sandwich tray I ever purchased from Rouses. It's party season and the Rouses in Gretna should be ashamed to charge people $54 for this nonsense, they were inconsistently cut and filled. I've been horrified to watch people pass them by all day and state that they look "gross", "a mess", "no those don't look good". Someone needs to learn how to make a sand which and cut proper quarters. I also requested a mustard/mayo mix and asked the girl if they were and she lied to my face. That is only mayo. Love this Rouses! The store is always immaculately clean (which is a huge plus for me), and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The prices can be a bit high sometimes, so I don't go there for my 'big' grocery trips, but I do stop in a few times a week for things I run out of or forget. Additionally, the hot bar, salad bar, and ready made meals are a go to for a quick but tasty lunch. One thing that stands out is if the store doesn't have something, they can order it and call you when it's in. One of the employees in the frozen foods section named Alton was extremely helpful in getting a hard to find item ordered for me and personally called me when it was in. The way it's set up really sucks you in and you end up buying more than what you intended,but that is the mark of a well stocked ,well designed super market. Worst service ever! I came in wanting to order a sandwich and I didn't realize they were cleaning/closing up the deli section. I was just gonna walk away, but the lady decided to make the sandwich so much negativity and her attitude was darn ugly!!! "I'm ready to get outta hea" was the expression she repeatedly said. If she had said that her station was closed then I would've been fine with that and kindly walked away. Bottom line. Very rude, nasty ,and among other things. Great looking new grocery with a nice beer/liquor selection. Unfortunately otherwise lacking quality departments I have come to expect from rouses. No health food section here, nor is there the impressive butcher dept most other rouses carry. Produce section appears large at first, but once you subtract the bakery and prepared foods section intermingled, it's actually pretty small with extremely limited organic options. read more
