Awful experience. Didn't even get to try the food. Waited for over an hour for breakfast and our waitress didn't even apologize. She just said let me check and then told us it would be another ten minutes. For eggs! If you have all the time in the world to wait, you might give this a try. We gave the $6.02 for our two cups of coffee and one glass of tea and left. The manager attempted to rip me a new one and called me selfish for making a complaint about the wait time. read more

I wish I could say better things about this place. Customer service wasn't very friendly and the onion rings are far too big to the point they're soggy and mushy. The BLT and chicken club was good tho and we ordered Pepsi and got diet Pepsi instead. Price is really good and the place seemed mostly clean other than a few tables that were messy. Stopped here on a road trip to MO from AZ. Had the best food I had all trip. Got the ham and cheese and the club sandwiches. Staff was friendly but left you alone if you didn't want to talk. I regretted not getting the taco salad (special of the day) since it looked so tasty until I got my sandwich. Maybe one of the best grilled ham and cheese sandwiches I've ever had. Right amount of cheese to ham ratio and the ham was very good quality. The homemade chips were also very good. Mom really liked the club as well. My mom and I stopped here today after visiting the Route 66 museum, the food was incredible! The portions are huge! We split the chicken fried steak, onion rings, an cheesy fries. We were stuffed! The CFS was delicious the breading was perfectly crispy, the gravy was nice and peppery. The onion rings were perfect! They were thick handcut and Hand breaded to golden perfection. This was our second visit. Eating here is something we've decided to do on our occasional trips to New Mexico, after a friend introduced it to us years ago. The name was different then, but it's still a perfect breakfast stop, both in timing and menu. We like to share chicken friend steak for breakfast, but it wasn't available on this day. Instead we enjoyed a wonderful traditional plate. I want to let you know, however, about the meatloaf. We were able to talk to the chef, congratulating him on the delicious fare, when he brought up his meatloaf, which was the lunch special that day. Since we weren't going to be in Clinton at lunchtime, he brought us a generous taste of it. So, now, there's two meat entrees that I will highly recommend---the best chicken fried steak ever, and the most delicious meatloaf I have ever experienced. The best part of our dining experience was the staff. They all seemed to work together to provide good service. The place & bathrooms are very clean. The breakfast was average, but coffee is good, hot, and plentiful. My husband had 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, & toast and I had 2 scrambled eggs & waffle. The eggs were ok, but the Belgian waffle is very dense & tasteless. Our waitress stated it is made from the same batter they make their pancakes from. Rusty little diner just off the main street in Clinton. Had a terrific, obviously hand-breaded chicken fried steak with choice of 2 veggies (I chose tater tots and green beans) and a dinner roll. The CFS was large and crispy, just like I like it. Service was appropriately attentive with a mom-and-pop waitress who threw a few "honeys" and "sweeties" at me. Tried the cheesecake and though the flavor was good, it was pretty dry and a bit tricky to swallow. Had to resort to Diet Pepsi in the absence of sweet tea (so sad). My first cup of coffee was the worst I have ever tasted but our very pleasant waitress brewed a new pot and that was ok. My husband ordered grilled chicken and asked for 2 vegetable sides. They only had green beans and mashed potatoes. So he had 2 helpings of green beans. He was satisfied with his meal. There were a number of choices that were crossed off the menu, so not much choice. This is a converted fruit stand. It resembles someone's garage. There is nothing pleasant about the atmosphere, but it was clean. I would not recommend this place. read more
