Really nasty hygiene, not coming back. They get +1 star because of a good beer selection and nice little outdoor area. We saw the waiter take the wrong food to one table, they disputed it and he walked away leaving it on their table. While he went away that table started eating the fries and touching everything, he came back and fessed up to his mistake and they let him know they started to eat. He just winked and said "I didn't see anything" then quickly took it, walked around a corner and immediately walked back to the real table, same food, same double-dipped ketchup, and served it to them. I enjoyed the food at Rowdy Hall much, much more than I expected. I would go so far as to say their Fish and Chips make this place well worth the trip -- no matter where you are coming from! First off, Rowdy Hall is at the back of the little inlet between the Sotheby's and the J. Crew on Main Street near the Citarella which gives the restaurant a nice little outdoor seating area and keeps down sound of the street traffic, but it also makes it difficult to see from Main Street. It is easy to find once you know where it is. My wife and I stopped by for a late lunch and the place was mostly empty so we got an inside table right away. Our waitress was prompt and polite. We started with two appetizers, the Chips and Dip and the Oyster Sliders. My wife and I took to calling the Chips and Dip "the French Nachos" and they were fantastic. They were fried gaufrette potatoes smothered in blue cheese with real bacon bits. The potatoes were just the right amount of crispy without being overly crunchy and the blue cheese was sharp without being bitter. Perfect. Even better was the Oyster Sliders with their homemade sriracha aioli which had enough of a kick to make the cole-slaw a great ending to the appetizer. The oysters were perfectly fried, tasty without being chewy, and crisp without being tough. I wished they came in a larger serving because they were so tasty. Now, for the main course I had the Fish and Chips. I should preface my review with the fact that I lived in England for two years and I had fish and chips on many occasions. Fish and chips are simple street/comfort food in England, like say tacos are in the US. If you think of the tacos you've had, they have been good or bad or tasty or not, but they are all about the same. You remember where you got "good" tacos and if you are in the mood for spicy, or tasty, or whatever you are in the mood for you know where to go. The Fish and Chips at Rowdy Hall are like that, they take all the best parts of what fish and chips should be and got rid of all the things that make them mediocre. The fish was fried to perfection so that it was fluffy and moist but not dry and the breading was crisp but not greasy or burnt. Even my wife, who usually hates fish, took a bite and was impressed. Also, the hand-cut fries (chips) were also perfect. They had fried them so they were crisp, but not greasy and they retained their fluffy potato center. Another thing I really liked was you could taste that they must have a dedicated frier for just the potato dishes separate from the frier they use for the fish. The Chips didn't taste like Fish and the Fish didn't taste like Chips from the frier. Nice touch. Seriously, I even told our waitress that these were far and away the best Fish and Chips I ever ate and I'm looking forward to going back and having them again. My wife had the turkey burger, which was also cooked to perfection such that it was still moist but not crumbly, like some turkey burgers can get if they aren't done right. It was done right at Rowdy Hall. One little trouble was that, of course, parking is a little tricky on Main Street in East Hampton. We were able to park and eat and get back to our car within the one hour limit, but if we had had to wait for our table or if we wanted to do anything afterwards we would have had to move the car to a new parking spot. It was busy that weekend and they had chalked my rear car tire to make sure I wasn't parking too long. read more

My experience with Rowdy has always been fifty percent. Half the time I go here it is good and half the time I go here it is bad. A total of maybe twenty visits. And bad means bad service. Which is forgetful, uncivil, unpleasant, argumentative, all the bad things. And a few times good service. Food is good, if what comes out is what you have ordered. Hidden little spot in the very upscale neighborhood of East Hampton. Don't let the 20 ritzy Ralph Lauren factory stores scare you off if you're from out of town. Beautiful interior and great British-esqe gastropub feel and very cool bar. We went for lunch and had two of the best sandwiches of our lives. First up was the roasted turkey shawarma and pork belly sandwich. To die for meal with handcut chips fried and made to order. The pork belly was tender and packed with flavor. The turkey made for a surprisingly perfect combination. The second sandwich was the shortrib grilled cheese with gouda and caramelized onions. I've got to say I had overlooked Rowdy Hall despite all my bookmarks, yelping, and wandering! Tucked away downtown, five of us decided to walk in Friday night, as apparently they don't take reservations. We did have to wait for a bit (it was fairly late, between 9-10...maybe even later?), and they were out of the bottle of white wine a friend had wanted to order, but aside from that, a great experience! I ordered the salmon, 3 girls got scallops (I think), and one tried a steak salad - apparently the scallops were decent, but as I loved the salmon, I can vouch that it's good! Also reasonably priced for East Hampton, so will be back. Definitely would be risky with a large group however, due to the no reservations policy, which will be the primary deterrent in the future.. They also have a couple outdoors tables, if you're ever lucky enough to grab those (or wait for them). Somewhere between a super casual and nice ambiance (i.e. nicer than i'd imagined, from the name). read more

Rowdy hall is tucked away from the bustle of the streets of East Hampton, and we are so glad we found it! Cozy, quaint, and it got fairly rowdy! I'm only saying that because we were a large group, and our waiter was an absolute gem. We had a wonderful time, joking, laughing and great conversation. The service was prompt, quick and the food was great! Most people got "bar food" but it was made well and after being out all morning, it was a perfect lunch that hit the spot. After walking in, we only had to wait about 20-30 minutes to get a table for about 16 people which is very reasonable! We were hungry and the waiter made sure our food came quickly! While waiting we got some drinks at the bar, and were watching sports which was great to keep the guys occupied. Drinks were strong, and the bartender was a riot. When it comes to the food, I had the french onion soup which was perfection. On a winter day, nothing was better. I love the gruyere cheese in it, it really added flavor to the soup. Never wanted it to end! For the entree, I had my first Reuben sandwich and it was such a happy experience, delicious from the first bit to the last! So glad I got it on a friend's recommendation. Overall wonderful drinks, wonderful food, and a great establishment! There was even a quaint outside patio area, we came in the winter so it was obviously too cold to sit outside, but I imagine that when the weather gets nice, this would be the perfect place to people watch and enjoy a wonderful mean any time of the day! I wish they had a bit more variety on the menu. The prices were pretty high for bar food though, but I guess that is East Hampton, so I shouldn't complain. This was our first visit to The Hamptons and this place was recommended. We got there at 5 just as they were opening for outdoor dining. We had our small dogs with us and coming from NYC they were never an issue. Did I mention they were also service dogs. We were told that per The Governor, animals were not allowed and then I was questioned about what service they provide. When I refused to answer we were told to leave. Very rude. So, we ordered takeout and when we got back to our VRBO we found the burger dry and overcooked and the fish and chips rubbery and the fries way undercooked. Rowdy Hall. It's a funny name, considering the very first time I went there, August of 2001, I was shushed. My husband and I still joke about it: "Shhhhh.... you're at *Rowdy* Hall!" But the extensive burger menu is epic and there is a real bar scene that's more local than tourist. It's especially nice for a first date because there's a fireplace. If you're a sports nut (like my husband), the bar has a large telly for all those important sporting events (that make my eyes glaze over). Well, it's certainly not O'Malley's (which it replaced a few years ago), but a bar belongs at the end of that alley next to London Jeweler's and Rowdy Hall fits the bill. It stays open later and is a great place to grab a later dinner after catching a movie. I don't like hamburgers myself, but I've heard amazing things about them. I love that they have awesome salads and soup for someone who's not quite in the mood for a burger. It's a bit on the expensive side for bar/pub food and if you're looking for something cheaper at the expense of atmosphere, John Papas is also a good place to go for a burger. read more

I am a regular at rowdy hall. I love this place and recommend it for anybody passing through the East Hampton Area. It's good for the family and brings an old western bar to modern life. I suggest ordering shishito peppers or the rowdy burger or my favorite, the French onion soup. Rowdy has a movie ticket deal where it is 26 dollars for a movie ticket and a burger, which is totally worth it considering the theater is about 17 dollars (for 3D) A very solid three star restaurant. read more

Nice local bar in East Hampton. The bartender and staff is very friendly and helpful. They have 5 different types of beer on tap. The bar menu is good and they have escargot on their bar menu (only in the Hampton's) So what goes great with a beer is escargot. The escargot was marinated in butter and garlic. After this meal I needed something to drop my cholesterol because I must have used all of my bread to soak in every drop of butter and garlic. Overall I liked it here and will be coming back next time i'm around. This is a great restaurant. It's comfy and the food is excellent - seafood is always fresh and its great comfy food. Its called the Rowdy Hall but doesnt have neither a typical "summer hampton" rowdy vibe nor pretentious "too wannabe trendy" decor. It's more of a warm vibe and relaxing atmosphere. Definitely a great place to visit during the fall or winter :0) It's a cute place for some good simple food and good selection of beer on tap. Visiting from NYC for the weekend, Rowdy Hall is one of the only handful of places that aren't the grossly overpriced, obvious tourist-trappish seafood spots that riddle the area. I mean, let's be honest, the restaurants in the Hampton's are nothing to write home about, but this place is worth a shot if you and friends are looking for a place to eat. These guys don't skimp out on the portions and I was quite surprised by the quality of their food. Here's what we had: Artichoke - It is what it is. An artichoke with an aioli. Don't order it unless you really like artichokes and aioli. Mussels & Fries - SO many mussels, so won't complain about that, but they put WAY too much broth. Mussel soup? Fries were out of bounds (meaning very good). Butternut Squash Lasagna - Sounds boring right? WRONG. So good. Light and very flavorful. read more

We got there at 11:58 am for the Noon opening with viewing College football in mind. We seated ourselves at the almost already full bar that provided two screens. We were duly greeted by Durmot, the bar tender, who was kind and gracious not only to us but also extremely kind to other patrons & staff. Visiting from Virginia, we were impressed by Durmot's dedication and assumed he was an owner of the place. The beer was cold and plentiful. Our food arrived quicker than expected and was cooked perfectly. I had the Rowdy burger. My wife had the Croque Monsieur, which she thoroughly enjoyed. We came here because we wanted to have drinks, and left because the server was rude. Our group of 7 came in around 1130pm, no one addressed us as we entered, so we sat down at a table that would accommodate our group. Then, a server came out and told us that we could only sit at the bar. There are about 10 seats at the bar, and only 2 of them weren't taken. When I pointed this out to the server, he said we could sit at the tables RIGHT BESIDE the one where we were sitting, but not at the one where we were already seated, and did so very pretentiously. We left. Might be a great place, but if you can't get people seated without being rude, I'm not going to spend money at your establishment. read more

A great haven from the docuhebags of East Hampton. I work at the theatre down the street, and come here after our shows for a drink and some of their vegetarian chili - which Rowdy, of all places, has the BEST i've ever eaten. They also happen to have a great bar with excellent local beer selections, and a friendly bar and wait staff. I'm very grateful to have a down to earth restaurant in the neighborhood when I'm working here. The place fills up in the summer, especially for dinner. The food was good, but I was terribly off put by the fact that there was an up charge because my companion got a burger that came on a bun which had sesame seeds and he is allergic to them. Tucked away between the high end shops of East Hampton lies Rowdy Hall. I've been there twice and enjoyed my meal both times. The menu features many local ingredients. On my first visit, I tried the omelette and a bloody mary--both very good! The second time I had the salmon salad--a great mix of fresh veggies, salty additions (olives, etc.) and well-cooked and well-seasoned salmon. Especially compared to the other more expensive options, it's a great choice. I also noticed on the menu that they have reading events there. If you want bread, you have to ask (noted on the menu). Went here this afternoon with my mom and the kids on the suggestion of the mom of my kid's best friends. We had just left a movie at the theatre a few doors down and needed to go someplace close by to get lunch; this place fit the bill rather nicely. My mom got a Cobb Salad. She said it was very, very good but wished there was more of it; bigger portioning; lots of fresh avocado and crisp bacon. I got a burger with fries. I liked the burger very much. My burger had blue cheese, plus pickle, onion, lettuce and tomato.The burger and fries were cooked perfectly. My son also got a burger and fries but off the kids menu; he picked at his plate like a bird (which he does when he is not that hungry). The kids menu burger was not much smaller than the regular adult menu burger. My son hardly ate his burger but finished his fries. My daughter got mac and cheese with a side of fries. My daughter finished most of her food. My son and daughter had two good friends tagging along; a brother and sister somewhat close to them in age, but younger, and who they often refer to as their cousins (even though they are not in any way related to). The boy "cousin" got a grilled cheese sandwich with fries; he ate most of his meal and he is picky eater. The girl "cousin" got mac and cheese with a side of fries like my daughter but only ate the fries; she is a super picky eater. I like the fact that this is a bar / restaurant that is very kid friendly during the day. I like the decor and ambiance. It has the classic Irish pub feel to it. The bar area was busy with patrons watching the Giants versus Seahawks. This place is a good choice if you are looking for a good bar that also serves great food in East hampton. I had not eaten dinner at Rowdy for quite some time as I had been living in Brooklyn since 2008 but recently moved back to Bonac. This past Saturday my wife and I and some friends had dinner at Rowdy and I was pleased to find that the food is still as good as I remembered and also still reasonably priced. I had the soup of the day to start which was New England clam chowder and it was superb! It was very creamy with a nice smokey / bacon flavor that made me savor every bite. I could have eaten more of it and been quite satisfied. For my main course I ordered the mussels which were also delicious. They came with a side of fries which I saved (most of) to soak in the sauce from the mussels. I was sooo stuffed after my entree that I imagined myself waddling out of the restaurant. However, we all decided to share a bread pudding for dessert which was served hot with lots of whipped cream and which the four of us devoured with a fever as to suggest we had not eaten all that other food! One of my first visits since my recent move to East Hampton. They recently updated their menu! Although I don't know what the old one looked like a friend I was with said that the food seems a bit more upscale rather than homey. Don't worry though, he said that all the usual favorites are there =) The quality of our food was very good. We both decided to have the cheeseburger, which turned out to be a nice 1/4 lb patty cooked exactly as we asked. I also ordered a Blue Moon and instead of just tossing a chunk of orange into the glass, they served a nice wedge .of orange on a long skewer. Nice touch. As time passed, the restaurant became quite crowded and very lively living up to its namesake! This was very cool and I can see why this place is a favorite amongst locals and tourists a like!
