The atmosphere is the only thing appealing about this place. Our server was also very nice. I read all of the other low reviews and agree with them all. The grilled octopus is small and thin, and the sushi is 6 pieces to a roll unless stated otherwise. The tartar is a mix of 3 different fish and is extremely fishy. The scallops were a nice size but completely over cooked and RUBBER. Honestly paying half the price we paid for dinner, it still wouldn't have been worth it. Don't waste your time with this place. For the Marvin Hamlisch fans, this was kind of DANCE 10 SERVE 3 It was July 4th weekend, so i generally take things with a grain of salt, but the service was so strange it really deserved mention. We ordered 3 dozen oysters to start for the 4 of us (they were excellent BTW). It seemed like they disappeared really quickly, so i counted shells and, sure enough, there were only 32. I brought this to the server's attention, and she didn't seem surprised at all and said she would bring 4 more. We then ordered another appetizer, figuring we would have time. They brought 6 more oysters, which was thoughtful, but maybe a minute after they brought them they served our main courses. We hadn't even finished the extra oysters yet. 10 minutes later the other appetizer arrived. Very strange. Like they were trying to get an extra turn from the table. That aside, the food was excellent. Three of us had the lamb chops, which were perfectly cooked to our requested temperature, and one of our party had the scallops which were also beautifully presented, well prepared, and tasty. The sides, potato wedges and creamed spinach, were both tasty and both added to the meal. The only small disappointment was dessert. We had an ice cream sundae, a Rather uninteresting choice, and rather unterestingly served, and a crime brûlée, which was just so so. On the way out we met a couple of ladies who were also leaving, and they were similarly dismayed at the lightening service, but they were less satisfied with their food. I would recommend the Old Stove Pub if you couldn't get reservations elsewhere. It's fine. And they had some live music, which was nice. Just not among my favorites. read more

We have had wonderful experiences at Old Stove Pub -- first dinner for 7 in May, and then a large dinner party for 35 immediately followed by a drinks reception for 100+ in the tent in September. From appetizers to dessert (cold fudge!), the food was delicious. Joe and his staff were courteous and attentive. Joe' was a huge help in planning the dinner party and reception, patiently answering my 100s of questions and providing recommendations that kept our budget in mind. He had no problem accommodating our gluten free and vegetarian guests. The tent was a lovely setting for our events. read more

Nice little place on the side of the road. Stopped in on a Friday for drinks and live music. Started out great plenty of parking went downhill from there. Wasn't very crowded, yet it took quite some time to get a drink order. Even longer for the servers that were standing around to take a second order. Getting a glass of iced water was a major task. Much confusion over the menu apps, etc. Most yelp reviewers had similar experiences with poor service at Old Stove Pub. Time to turn off the burners of this place. I'm guessing it needs change of management when the only positive I can offer is the parking. It might've been one star, but it was a Friday afternoon, I was sitting with my honey, and the band was great. read more

My wife and I had dinner with my Mom at the Old Stove Pub last night and although the food was good the service was subpar. There was a long wait between the time we ordered cocktails and our drinks arrived. When I ordered my entre - the filet mignon - I asked if I could get béarnaise sauce to go with it. (That was not listed as an sauce option.) The waiter said he would ask the kitchen. I told him that if I could not get that then I would go with the red wine sauce. In addition to our entrees my wife and I ordered a side of corn to share. When our dinner arrived - delivered by either another waiter or perhaps a bus person - I asked about my sauce and he said he would check on that. Before I could realize we had not gotten our corn side dish he was gone. A few minutes later another person - turns out the owner - returned to ask if I had request a sauce. I confirmed and also asked about our corn and pointed out that I was half way finished with my steak (it was pretty small) so don't worry about the sauce. He said he wouldn't charge me for it. So he returned with the sauce and the corn - which was just two pieces of corn on the cob cut into smaller pieces for eating. $10 for that! Our waiter did eventually return to see how everything was and bus the table. We asked for a check and got it and then the check with the credit card sat and waited (as did we) for someone to come take the check to run the credit card. At one point I saw the guy who had brought us our food and so I put the check on top of an empty glass which prompted he to come over. Fortunately they have hand held devices to process the credit card so we didn't have to wait any longer to finally be done so we could go home. The place was not that busy and so there is no excuse for the length of time and generally poor service we received. And like every other place in the Hamptons the prices are outrageous so I would not recommend this place to anyone. Also, there is a sushi menu and those prices are even more insane. Thursday is apparently half price sushi and saki night and I commented after looking at the menu that the half price option made the sushi prices reasonable. read more

I have been dining out at restaurants running the gamut of price and quality for more than 25 years. I've had mostly great experiences, and a handful of bad ones. Never once have I had an experience as atrocious as the one I had last night at Old Stove Pub in Sagaponack. A summary of the key points follows. We arrived for our party of 12 on time at 8 pm and were promptly seated. The "positives" start and stop with that fact. Once seated, there weren't enough table settings or menus, which was a little surprising given that we were one person short. No biggie. We squeezed and shared. It took about 15 minutes for our primary server to take our drink order, and another 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Once they did, my girlfriend's espresso martini tasted like watered down espresso. My drink was fine, but the second one (which came way later) was also watered down. I say "primary server" because multiple members of the wait staff occasionally stopped by our table, never bearing any good news. One lady appeared to only know one English expression - "just a minute" - and she used it irrespective of whether it was responsive to what we were saying to her. After the first round of drinks came, nothing happened for 45 minutes. That includes our receipt of the bottle of wine we ordered or any of our appetizers coming. In fact, it was around 90 minutes before any of our appetizers arrived, and even those were incomplete. At this point, multiple tables around us started legit bouncing, leaving unfinished drinks and unpaid bills in their wake. Nobody was around to stop them. We should have done the same. It was only then, at some point between the first and second appetizers, that we received the first acknowledgment of the poor service and an attempted explanation. As for the explanation, the primary server noted that the restaurant was only expecting 15 guests that night and had received many more. Given the holiday weekend, not to mention our reservation of 12, this was implausible on its face. It would also later be flatly contradicted with a differing explanation from the owner (see below). Eventually, the rest of the appetizers arrived. Those that I tasted were adequate, but not worth their price tags. Delays persisted. Our primary waitress then began sobbing. She claimed to have burned her hand on a hot plate. I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt here, despite her prior dubious claim about the 15 reservations, because plates do get very hot when left unattended for prolonged periods under standing heat lamps. (An aside for all you Hamptons folk who've never worked in a restaurant, kitchens use these things to keep food warm while servers and food runners are out of the kitchen. But they are not meant to be used for more than a minute or two; if they are, the plates become burning hot and the food overcooks. Spoiler alert: this happened to our food.) At about two hours in, the entrees dropped. As indicated, they were not good. For a description of my chicken, please see my prior review of the now defunct Over Easy Breakfast Club in Philadelphia. Then imagine that chicken, but dryer and harder. My girlfriend's scallops were all but frozen on the inside. The steak had clearly been basted by burnt butter. Everything I tasted was all so bad! Firmly into hour three of our meal, Old Stove's owner, Joseph DeCristofaro, finally meandered over to our table. His demeanor should have been one of profuse remorse; instead it was one of unrestrained self pity. While at our table, Joseph: (1) blamed his point-of-sale system, Toast, for the night's events; (2) actually asked us, despite most of our food being visibly uneaten, "at least the food was good?"; (3) boasted that, on the night before, Old Stove served something like 250 tables "flawlessly"; and (4) reacted to our very reasonable request that he comp our largely inedible meal by saying, "not gonna happen." His eventual counteroffer to not charge us for half of a wholly terrible meal was abysmally inadequate. So was his apology. Joseph, if you're reading this, please be advised that I do not accept your insincere apology. If you are not reading this, Jesus fucking Christ dude how are you not reading Yelp after last night?! Nota bene: none of the above is misquoted or embellished in the slightest. It all happened as a matter of fact and exactly as described. Ultimately, we paid about 45 percent of our bill and tipped fairly. This was nothing short of a gargantuan overpayment, which, in the Hamptons, is really saying something. We have been going to The Hamptons since 1992. We have driven by the Old Stove Pub at least 300 times and finally decided to stop one evening for dinner. It was during the week and the menu sure sounded delicious. We were NOT disappointed. Our service was from Ireland and works part-time in the City. He was delightful and very attentive to our experience. There was alot going on in the restaurant - outdoor patio was very full as well as the indoor areas too. The bus boy was also quick and attentive. Our food did not disappoint and was 6 star plus!!!!! We will be back this October during our annutal trip to The Hamptons for "therapy! I grew up going to Old Stove Pub prior to the new ownership and always loved the food so wanted to give the new owners a try.. my girlfriend and I ate here last night for our anniversary. Food/Atmosphere: The place had a nice atmosphere. Good sized crowd, some live jazz music being played in the background. I had a scotch on the rocks, my girlfriend had a glass of Cabernet.. then we ordered Saganaki, Greek Salad, Clams Oreganata, truffle mashed potatoes, and a filet mignon with red wine Demi glaze. We honestly enjoyed everything we ate - flavors were good, steak and mashed potatoes could've been a little hotter.. but overall, the food was good (especially the Saganaki). Service: Our service wasn't as bad as we thought it would be after reading these other reviews.. drinks and apps came out pretty speedily. The entrees took a little bit longer to come out, but before we had a chance to realize it had been a while, our server brought us a round of drinks on the house which was nice, and kept apologizing about the wait.. (again I honestly didn't think the wait had been too outrageous). Price: This place is definitely a little overpriced.. but it is the Hamptons, so we didn't expect any less really. Overall, 3.5/5.. Service was a little hectic, and I was hoping to leave saying WOW that steak was amazing.. and while it was a decent filet, it wasn't anything to write home about.. We'll be back to give it another try and maybe explore some other entrees, but it wasn't as memorable as I was hoping it would be especially at the price point. read more

We had a late evening reservation this past weekend, the hostess looked totally confused when we said we had reservations and eventually just sent us to the bar area. After waiting for about 20 minutes with no one acknowledging us, I stopped someone else who was seating people to ask if she knew anything. She stared at me blankly for a moment and scurried away. A few minutes later she came back and asked me my last name and literally ran us over to a table. Our order was simple: two steaks for two, two sides of fries, one side of creamed spinach. While we were waiting (no bread or anything offered) a bus came over and asked us how long we had been there, if we were waiting for dessert or leaving, and a couple other odd questions. Turns out he was looking for a table that had asked for a spoon. Ok, "were you the table that asked for a spoon" would have been far more effective. The steaks came, we were given two plates, a server looked at the table with a confused look and asked if we wanted two more plates. Um, yes please. The first plate of fries came out soggy and lukewarm. The spinach was cold. After a while we asked for our second plate of fries and sent the spinach back for reheat. Too bad we didn't send back the first fries because it turns out they do actually know how to fry potatoes and serve them hot. Oh well. Spinach eventually came back near the end of our meal. This time warm, thank you. I will say the steaks were very good, albeit fatty. Could have used at least a little light to help cut around the fat, but whatever. We declined dessert, wasn't about to spend another penny there. All in our meal for four - which included one cocktail - was $340. (Our actual waitress was nice so we didn't hold anything against her.) That's not crazy money but it's up there, and I figure decent service and warm, fresh food would cost them nothing extra to provide. Needless to say we won't be going back. read more

This is the typical place you find yourself going to when a group of people can't decide where else to go and everyone wants to stay local. The appetizers were pretty good but not omg great. The main courses were very well prepared with only a few that had sides. Steaks were good but came with no sides. Certain menu items were not accurately described - random ingredient substitutions. Beware if you have food allergies because staff is not attentive. In general food was average and service was below average for the price. Main course was served before appetizers were cleared from the table, long delays in serving left some plates to go cold while waiting for others to be served. Beer cans were served without glasses even being offered. Service in general did not meet even the slightest of expectations. They seemed distracted and not at all concerned for our dining experience. Their strong point was to try and upsell on menu items and drinks. For value and service look elsewhere. read more

This is a wonderful place to enjoy the finest of meats in the Hamptons. A steakhouse with a small Greek type of cuisine. You really cannot go wrong ordering any of the grilled meats off the menu. And the sushi is really not that bad. Great side dishes, excellent service and satisfying drinks. A complete wine list with very fair prices. People watching in a beautiful setting!! Long standing Greek Resteraunt Open under new management. Indoor & outdoor seating, take out and pop up Sushi to supplement their usual menu. Staff is super friendly, knowledgeable & helpful. Greek twist on American fare. Good food (Octopus & Burrata apps; Bronzino & Prawn Entrees all delicious). No kids options (Except French Fries & Corn). With Covid they're not currently serving coffee or desserts (Although our waiter managed to get us some Baklava which was awesome!!). The eggplant, octopus salad, sushi, chirashi and the baklava are my favorite dishes here. I eat here twice a month when traveling back and forth between upstate New York and Montauk. It's a nice stopping point and we can always get a table. They had a nice jazz band on Saturday night adjacent to the outdoor seating area. This is a five star restaurant with 5 star service. Extremely disappointing experience at Old Stove Pub this weekend. After reading that the restaurant was under new ownership, we decided to give it a try. Some overall thoughts: - The prices and menu you see online are not accurate. They have smartly decided not to post their new menu, which has really upped the prices and decreased the options from prior iterations. - Service was slow and unfriendly. Despite it not appearing to be a busy evening, they will not let you order appetizers separately from your entrees. - The drink prices are outrageous and should be reconsidered. We ordered a variation of a spicy margarita which was presented in a half-filled tiny glass with ice; probably less than 0.5 oz of tequila total. This was $25. All cocktails were around this price point and were poor quality. - The mezze platter did not have enough of each spread for everyone in our group of 5 to get to sample each one. Decent ambiance outside but that's it. The cheese appetizer we had was just greasy cheese and pita. Nothing interesting about it. The worst part was the total bill - $76 before tip for two glasses of wine, one appetizer and a $12 bottle of water because apparently the tap water is bad. Absurd. I know the hamptons are expensive but I had a great lunch with drinks in East Hampton for about a hundred with tip the day before and was happy to spend a mint for delicious dinner in Sag Harbor the other night. Worst of all a table with multiple families and children was allowed to let their kids run around the restaurant unchecked and one of the children dropped his jammies and urinated in the dining area and the staff completely ignored it. The owner/manager walked around thanking patrons for coming but did not show any interest in soliciting feedback or offering assistance. We had the pleasure to visit the Old Stove Pub on Friday night. It was the 1st time we had dined here as well as the 1st time out since covid began,so we were a bit apprehensive. From the minute we arrived at the restaurant we were welcomed by the hostess as if we were regular. We had asked for the safest table possible and w led to what was described as the family table for the owner. We were totally secluded and felt extremely comfortable. Our appetizers From the trio to the outstanding truffle burrata and others did not disappoint. The owner Joe stopped by several times to check on us and was most engaging.Our waitress Lauren was on the top of her game and made the experience very enjoyable. Never have I had a worse dining dining experience in my entire life as the owner of this restaurant, Joseph DeCristofaro, is a complete buffoon and down right nasty. After arriving 5 minutes late for our 8:30 reservation our table was "ready" at 8:55pm but it took asking multiple team members (including the owner/"manager") to have the table cleared and set. After finally sitting and waiting 15 minutes without being approached by a waiter we finally got the attention of a hostess and quickly put in an order for dips and a bottle of wine. Both were delivered promptly and the owner let us know the dips would be on the house. This is the first and last gesture the owner did to make this right. After completing our dips and still not seeing a waiter to order (it's 9:50 pm now) we catch the attention of the hostess to once again ask for a waiter to and at this point to speak with the owner/manager as well. I spot him sitting inside at a table with a couple dining and even after being approached by his concerned hostesses he refused to make things right. A waiter finally came, apologized for the wait letting us know they did not have a server assigned to our table. We order our food and I once again ask to see the owner who at this point is enjoying a glass of wine at the bar. When the food comes out (promptly I would add) we where outrageously disappointed, a $36 dollar plate of scallops came with 4 scallops and zero side vegetable or starch. My chicken paillard was a small salad with half a grilled chicken breast that was to dry to even eat after being as hungry as we were. After all the mistakes we expected additional complementary items aside from the dips brought to the table or our bill to be reduced exponentially, that was not the case. We truly regret not picking up and just leaving even that late in the evening with little to no restaurants still open. Lastly, the icing on the cake, when entering the restaurant to use the bathroom before we left (the bill was already paid) I spotted the owner. I asked him if it was fair to charge us a full amount for such an awful meal to which he responded, "you were late to your reservation (by 5 minutes) what else do you expect?" I then proceeded to ask him, "would you treat me this way if I was a food critic or a celebrity?" And his response was, "yes, now get the fuck out of my restaurant." The food is awful, cocktails and wine are at a minimum of $24 a glass, and the service/owner are really terrible. Do yourself a favor and don't even come within a mile of this place. read more

We all want to love the Old Stove Pub. It has such a warm and historic atmosphere. There is ample parking. The hosts and servers are polite and attentive. But that is where it ends. I almost wish they would let me into the kitchen to help out the cooks. Most of the food is so bland and uninspired. Almost any type of enhancement, from a dash of extra virgin olive oil, to garlic, or freshly grated cheese could lift these dishes up from the doldrums. But it's more than that. The menu is so ill conceived. There are Greek inspired dishes that are blander than any Greek diner on Long Island at 2-3x the price. The spreads appetizer makes you wish you could just grab a Sabra hummus from a gas station or some supermarket Tzatiki to get your Greek fix. The eggplant dish didn't even feature salt or pepper and could have benefitted from any type of sauce, tomato or even herb based. It was like a box of unsalted Rice a Roni rice pilaf dumped on an oven baked eggplant with not even a splash of oil. Fried zucchini spirals with tzatziki had no tzatziki and were tiny matchstick shards that reminded me of my days of cleaning the fryer basket at the end of a kitchen shift. You needed a spoon to eat them. The typical preparation of this dish features actual spirals that can be held in your hand. Once again, it's truly a shame. This is a place that begs to be loved and enjoyed. There is something about the atmosphere here that is just terrific. Sadly we can't justify returning when there are plenty of other food options. read more

The room was cold and uninviting. The service was acceptable. My husband and I went there for the Wednesday night dinner special with Karaoke. There was no Karaoke and the food was inedible. The onion soup was watery tasting with low quality mozzarella and the "baby back ribs" were the biggest stringy overcooked baby back ribs I've ever tasted. The BBQ sauce was plastered to the ribs and had no distinguishable taste. The cheese cake was cold and had absorbed the taste of the refrigerator.
