I switched to Rowland Foot Soak after my favorite massage therapist moved over here. I love him so much that I will gladly follow him wherever he goes! This place has been around for a very long time and is quite loved by the locals. It is definitely a bit of a hole-in-the-wall spot, and the interior could admittedly use a little bit of an update. However, they do keep it pretty clean, and the prices are extremely reasonable. It's important to know that the type of massages they give here is the traditional Chinese-style acupressure, not a spa-like oil rubbing massage. I specifically come here to get deep tissue work and get my muscles loosened up. For some people, it might not feel super comfortable or relaxing in the moment because it's much more similar to a sports medicine massage, but the results are entirely worth it. I specifically book with therapist Li from Shanghai (note: there are two therapist Li's working here!). He is absolutely amazing, and my whole family has been getting massages from him for many, many years. While he doesn't speak a lot of English, his skills speak for themselves and he does amazing work. I always feel like I am completely reborn after a session with him. I always come here to book Kevin and his wife Lisa for me and my husband. Kevin and his brother are both great!! Lisa is experienced as well. This is a more social foot massage spa. I wouldn't come here expecting a dead quiet zone. Your foot massage is done in an open area with other clients, and if you have a back massage, it's done in the other room where there are separate rooms but the rooms are not noise insulated. You can hear other people talk from time to time. I really don't mind because the massages are so great and affordable. A 1h30m massage is only $55! OPEN 10a-11pm 7 days a week. I don't know why Yelp keeps not changing it. There are many reasons to get a massage - ranging from pampering yourself to really working on a knot that's affecting you. Rowland Feet soak is the later. If you're looking for something romantic or a place to make you feel like a prince/princess, THIS IS NOT THAT. Their prices don't reflect that they're anything they're not, so don't come here and then complain about how they didn't meet your own misconceptions. Rowland Feet Soak is magic. Specifically, Lulu is magic. You go in and it's dim. You go in and are immediately greeted by a fairly large space filled with about a dozen lounge chairs, facing the single TV on the wall that's most likely playing some Chinese program on mute. If you've not made an appointment/chose your service(s) beforehand (I really recommend you do), they will ask you and you will be led to one of the lounge chairs for your foot massage. And if you come here without getting a foot massage, what is wrong with you? Treat your feet better, yo. At the lounge chair, you will lie down, similar to an angle of a lazy-boy with the feet rest up. Hopefully you wore shorts or loose sweat pants so it's easy to roll up. As you're doing that, your masseuse will be filling a bucket of hot water. It may be too hot when it arrives, and she/he will laugh and just say, well wait a bit before you put your feet in then. Logic! She/he will start with your upper body as your feet are soaking - shoulders, neck, head, arms. Lulu's hands man, they are tough. Like, soft to the touch, but so much strength in her fingers! And she found all the spots I knew about and even found spots I had no idea about. The BEST part is it's as if she's doing it half hardheartedly. Because don't be surprised if your gal/guy isn't chatting with you (I didn't talk much to her, don't worry if you're not the chatty type) she/he most likely be chatting with other masseuses/customers as you're getting worked on. And then you start to wonder, "is she just THIS skilled? She is multitasking and giving a fantastic massage - they need to charge higher prices, man." We got the 45min on feet, 45 min body, so after she moved from my upper body to feet/legs, I was told to get up and go to the room next door that I didn't see upon entering. That's where your usual massage tables divided by walls are. I took my clothes off down to my underwear (girls, the bra strap will just get in the way, seriously leave it), and she covered me with a towel and gave me an awesome oil massage. Service started off with a warm foot bath while the masseuse did a thorough head, scalp, shoulder, arm and hand massage. The foot massage was decent while the masseuse did it via a pair of vinyl gloves. The biggest surprise was the 20 minute back massage that was done in the back while fully clothed. I've been coming here for about 5 years now. They have high turnover, so stay away from the new ones, especially the guys that work here. I find that the women here are more professional, and stronger, yet gentle. When I'm really stressed I drop $40 for 1 hour of body and a half hour of foot massage. It's worth every penny...that is if you get a good masseuse. Ask for Judy. She's like I said about the women here. Strong yet gentle, and always professional. She's been here 8 years and knows what she's doing. Don't worry about the language barrier either. They have a chart you can simply point to pick your massage package, but most that work here know basic English. FYI: tipping is good karma here. This is your everyday Asian foot massage place. 15 bucks = 1 hour. so it's nothing fancy BUT it does stand out from all the other ones I've been to in Alhambra/Monterey park/ Rowland. they have these chairs that unfold all the way level and they treat you with a 10-15 min back massage. that's a real treat cuz usually you're just sitting up. so it makes the massage that much more enjoyable. plus usually when you go to these spots the employees are a hit or miss situation. but we rolled up in there 3 deep and we all had a good experience. that's pretty rare to find. personally i was taken care of by Tawie - he's very nice and strong if you like a firmer massage. read more

Just got back from a great massage at Rowland Feet Soak. I went there based on these reviews with good expectations, and I was not disappointed. I really wanted work done on my back because it's always hurting (I have bad posture , a little beer belly and a big butt)and don't care so much about my legs, so I asked for a half and half, 30 minutes each. Twas amazing! Alice applied a lot of pressure, but just right. Not too weak and not too harsh. I winced a few times but hey, that's how you know you're feeling it. Like others said, you sit in a comfy lazy-boy type chair that can recline all the way into a bed. She put my feet in hot water. When that part was done she lotioned up and massaged my feet and legs while wearing gloves. Felt great. While my feet were soaking, she did my head and face and neck. Also really enjoyed that part. Some work on the arms and hands. When it was time for my back, she reclined the chair and put a towel and cute heart paper for my face to lie down on. Once again, a very solid amount of pressure. And maybe she could tell I have back problems. She did extra work on my gigantic buttocks. Wonder if it was fun to have something so bubbly to play with. I didn't talk at all. I just wanted to relax and enjoy, and I showed that by smiling from the feeling. I was surrounded by other people getting their massages just like me. Some were talking. All in Chinese. This is fine by me because other languages, especially Chinese, are just ambient noise when it surrounds me. I visited Taiwan and lived in Japan for a while. I appreciate not being able to eaves drop on conversations. Would have hated it if everyone spoke English. Alice did speak a little English though. I could tell she was doing her best to make me feel comfortable with my obvious native language. Not necessary for me, but cool nonetheless. On the speakers they played American music. Like instrumental soft R&B. Dentist office stuff, or what you listen to on hold. Only problem was it was cold in there. Felt like the AC was on, even though it was winter. I usually don't get messages, but my back was hurting so bad that I was left with no choice. I surprised that this location is at a smaller plaza across the street as the HK2 Plaza. This plaza was very dark, and if it wasn't for the open sign that was lighted up, I would have thought that it was closed. When I came in the place was very dark. The owner knew English and gave me the options they have. I decided to get the 30 minute foot message with the 30 minute full body message for $25. The owner was nice and granted my request that a woman give me a message. The foot message was pretty good. They start off with a short head message and focus on your feet. She didn't speak English but understood my request for her to put more umph into her message. The pressure she applied to my feet was great. It was enough to message my feet but not overpowering to cause me great pain. After the foot message, they take you to a separate area which was just as dark as the previous area. The back message was just what I needed. She focused on knobs that I didn't even know I had. The pressure she applied was perfect, not overpowering but not weak enough to feel like she was rubbing her hands against my back. I decided to tip the lady $10, which I felt was a good amount, and since I didn't hear anything bad, they agreed as well. It was too dark to see the decor, but from what I saw, it was nice and clean. Two gripes about this place: the first was that after the back message, they gave me some really hot water. It was too dark to see the steam and was surprised by it. Another issue I had was during the foot message, the owner of the place was watching TV, disrupting the peaceful environment. This is by far my most favorite reflexology store in Southern California, and yes I compared with lots of foot massage stores in San Gabriel area. I love reflexology and have been to so many different stores in SoCal but this store always stands out in my mind. A regular foot massage starts with a head and shoulder massage for 10-15 minutes and the masseuse will work on your foot and legs. What makes them really stands out is that they would turn you over and massage your back - and this is my favorite part here because it completely loosen up not only the back but also the upper arm. I can feel immediately relaxed when I walked out of the store. Price - $15 for a regular foot massage like I mentioned above. +$10 extra for a extended back massage if you would like to. Masseuse are nice and you can let them know which part of your feet or back needs more attention. They will take care of it. This store is not a fancy SPA-like massage store but their hard work and service make every dollar worth. Not all the masseuse can speak good English, so if you don't speak Chinese, grab your Chinese-speaking friend to visit the store. I told Anna at the end that she might want to stay off her phone while giving massages because to be honest it didn't feel good. Could tell she felt bad and she was nice about it so I still gave her a $5 tip. The massage I got today was the equivalent of an amateur. Lots of pauses, inconsistent pressure. She actually used my lower back as an armrest to text while she used her other forearm to massage my upper back. Was totally bewildered, pissed, and laughed at the absurdity. She is so unprofessional that she didn't even dry my feet after soaking! And she was so interested in other things while she was doing my massage! And her service is very uncomfortable! I came here wanting to do the 1 hour foot massage for $15 but I ended up doing the 30min body & 30 min feet for $20 and I did not regret it! First, when you go in, you're greeted by the masseuses. Most of them can speak both Mandarin and English. You can pick if you want a male or female and then they assign you to a big comfy chair to sit in. They bring out a tub of hot water to soak your feet in (the tub has little bumps on the bottom so you can step on it & massage your feet). While your feet is soaking, they massage your head, neck, & shoulders for about 10 minutes. Then, they take your feet out of the water and start massaging your feet with lotion. They do some interesting stretches on your body so don't be alarmed! If you're not comfortable with it, make sure to let them know. After the foot part is done, they put a hot towel on your feet to wipe it down (mine was really hot! I wish she checked the temperature first before putting it on my feet). For the body, you go to another section of the store where they have shared rooms or individual rooms. For the massage I got, I kept my clothes on. The place was relatively clean and everyone was really nice. The place could be a little more air conditioned (was a bit hot at one point but they had a lot of breeze from the outside so it wasn't too bad) & the masseuse talk during the massage (I'm used to it at these Asian places so I just tune it out). They also give you tea or water afterwards. I had the masseuse, Lulu, who did a good job but there's just certain little things I wish she would've done, like make sure the wet towel wasn't too hot when putting it on my feet or putting a towel over my eyes when she was just working on my feet so I could relax. I'll probably try someone new next time like Lisa (my friend had her & liked her). I paid with credit card and tipped in cash. The lady didn't seem too happy that I paid with card so I'm going to bring cash next time. Make sure to tip your masseuse! I worked in a massage place before & I know how hard they work. However the next day after the massage I had to go to the chiropractor due to the pain I was experiencing in my neck.
