Let me tell you about the bread. It was SO good! Hubby got a half order of homemade biscuits and gravy and an omelette. Everything was so good, homemade and really delicious. Everyone was so friendly, and local resident Jack was there to greet us as we walked in. He's a regular and a super friendly guy! If you're passing through Croswell, stop by! You won't regret it!

They offer cod, perch, and walleye dinners, w your choice of dry or wet batter. The walleye was delicious, with 2 nice pieces, and piping hot. At our 4-top table, the two 6-piece perch fillet dinners were on the cool side, temp wise. My husband was seated when it was served and he says as soon as he tasted it he could tell it had sat a while. I saw the dinners sitting out on the kitchen counter when we went past to the restroom. Being that the pieces of lake perch are much smaller than walleye, it might have contributed to how they cooled quickly, but I would have enjoyed the perch so much more if it would have been piping hot like the walleye. For fried fish, hot is a requirement. That being said, they were not over cooked. The shrimp in the basket my daughter got were quite tasty (and hot) for 6.75. Recommend. The clam chowder tasted homemade and also was excellent. The mashed potatoes were real, fries were better than average, and the baked was delicious. It comes with about a tablespoon of sour cream. They also had a good beef gravy for the mashed. Sadly, the cole slaw was past its prime, and my little cup was even effervescent, a sure sign it's been on the shelf a while. Our water was light on ice and rather tepid to drink. Oddly, we weren't given an itemized bill. Rather after waiting for quite a while for our total, we were given a verbal quote. When our sever brought back our card slip, she stood there and held our card while waiting and watching for the tip to be signed! That's not ok and terribly rude. I say this with experience as a server and a former resident of a very small town. If it wasn't table service, she shouldn't have taken our order at the table from the get go. Or she could have asked us to bring up the bill to pay after it was dropped off, if it had ever been dropped off. We still tipped 20 %, but that's not normal no matter how small the town is. The dining room was pretty full and you could tell things kept moving. There is also a lively takeout business and a table outside. She was working alone until the end of our visit. So, this isn't a bad plaice, but I'm not sure it's the diamond in the rough that other reviewers found it to be. If it's full, you will prob up waiting for service. For paying nearly $60 out the door for dinner, I think we could have done better.

Once seated, we had at least 3 servers pass by us repeatedly. We were never greeted, never told "be right with you", never spoken to, never received water, or met a waiter. We waited and waited while tables came in, were seated, received water, and so on. I noticed the four people next to us received water and were never helped again. I only noticed because, like us, they were looking around. The place was full of staff. Setting for future tables, chatting, but... no service. We got up and left. When a business has a hidden issue that may not show up "on the books", often there is a slow, silent client decline of the core customer base. But the care that went into the menu, the quality of the food products being purchased, and bringing a Detroit quality of food to Lexington leads me to believe they do, indeed, care. We called other places and every single one was packed within a 35 mile radius. One got us in and they said hello when we walked in. And the server was slammed but said "be with you shortly" We are not snobs. The manager walked by our table at least four times and several waitresses walked past, we looked, we raised our hands. It was like an SNL skit. We did not receive even an acknowledgment for the 20 minutes we sat there with servers passing by repeatedly. It has happened at other restaurants, and we get up and let someone know. In this case, so many people were right there, literally inches from us as we turned to flag. It was bizarre. So, thought I would try to get the attention of the owners. Keep in mind my post also said we had medicocre service several times prior. So I was raising a flag. I also mentioned there was a surplus of staff across the room chatting. No one was helping the servers, getting water, making sure the room was flowing. This will cause a bottleneck in the kitchen as well and delay table turnover on what should be a very busy night. So I am not just being a person who thinks I am too good. We could have flagged, eaten, and had the poor service continued as it had on at least 3 prior occasions, we would have just quietly chosen to head to the Detroit area in the future. Because if we plan a nice evening out, the overall experience is also taken into consideration. Look at my Yelps. I rarely comment and its always positive. If it were my restaurant, I would want to know. And when we called all the fine dining within an hour drive and you could hear how busy they were, I realized we may not be the only ones walking away. I was actually surprised at how comfortable their "wicker" chairs were, and everything was bright and clean. The staff was great too! Even with there being a rush, they handled everything with grace, humor and kindness. For sure a team working together to keep things running smoothly. When placing my order I quickly brought up my food allergies/intolerances, as I have quite a few. I was aware that they could not 100% guarantee no cross contamination, as one severe sensitivity of mine is wheat, but after choosing my safest option (The Huron Street Special), they promised to be as safe a possible. I'm happy to say that I left without having any food reactions, neither then, nor delayed onset. So big thank you to them for that! The food was served in large portions and was absolutely delicious.
