We drove 1.5 hours to come to this restaurant. The service has been consistently mediocre, but today was the last for us. We made reservations. Came early before the evening rush. The place was maybe 1/3 full. We were seated. The greeter looked at us, turned and walked away, and came back and handed us over to the manager. Never welcomed us. The manager seated us and was polite. He usually greets people and is warm and welcoming. He and I have spoken on numerous occasions, and he is always nice. Once seated, we had at least 3 servers pass by us repeatedly. We were never greeted, never told "be right with you", never spoken to, never received water, or met a waiter. We waited and waited while tables came in, were seated, received water, and so on. I noticed the four people next to us received water and were never helped again. I only noticed because, like us, they were looking around. The place was full of staff. Setting for future tables, chatting, but... no service. We got up and left. Sadly, we will no longer make the drive. The food prep has been declining, and the service has gone from tolerable to ridiculous. We came to have a nice meal. We get treated way better at our local coney. If this was the first or second time I would never post. We refer people here frequently, but now I feel bad for recommending it. It is a lovely place, great menu and it is just not working. Response to comment below: Please note: We love the restaurant. Note the comments from others leaving fewer stars revolve around service. When a business has a hidden issue that may not show up "on the books", often there is a slow, silent client decline of the core customer base. I know it will hop during tourist season so maybe the owners do not care. But the care that went into the menu, the quality of the food products being purchased, and bringing a Detroit quality of food to Lexington leads me to believe they do, indeed, care. We called other places and every single one was packed within a 35 mile radius. One got us in and they said hello when we walked in. And the server was slammed but said "be with you shortly" We are not snobs. The manager walked by our table at least four times and several waitresses walked past, we looked, we raised our hands. It was like an SNL skit. We did not receive even an acknowledgment for the 20 minutes we sat there with servers passing by repeatedly. It has happened at other restaurants, and we get up and let someone know. In this case, so many people were right there, literally inches from us as we turned to flag. It was bizarre. So, thought I would try to get the attention of the owners. Keep in mind my post also said we had medicocre service several times prior. So I was raising a flag. I also mentioned there was a surplus of staff across the room chatting. No one was helping the servers, getting water, making sure the room was flowing. This will cause a bottleneck in the kitchen as well and delay table turnover on what should be a very busy night. So I am not just being a person who thinks I am too good. We could have flagged, eaten, and had the poor service continued as it had on at least 3 prior occasions, we would have just quietly chosen to head to the Detroit area in the future. Because if we plan a nice evening out, the overall experience is also taken into consideration. Look at my Yelps. I rarely comment and its always positive. If it were my restaurant, I would want to know. And when we called all the fine dining within an hour drive and you could hear how busy they were, I realized we may not be the only ones walking away. My waitress was very friendly and had some great recommendations. I ordered a drink and appetizer. When my drink arrived I ordered my entree. Unfortunately my appetizer, salad, and entree all came out about the same time. The bruschetta was very good. The salad was your typical house salad. I didn't get to eat it since my entree was already at the table. While the thought of cherries and pasta may seem strange, the Michigan Cherry Chicken Pasta was amazing. I definitely recommend it. The location gets 5 stars. Other than that, the place was a total disappointment. The waitress came over as soon as we sat down and wanted to take our food order but we hadn't even looked at the menu. The food choices weren't great but we sat outside on the patio and you could smell fish so I'm guessing that fish and chips is very popular there. My friend got a burger and it came with nothing for $21 and he had to pay $3 extra for fries. He said the burger was just okay. We also got the cheesy spinach artichoke dip and it actually was like cheese dip. I was so disappointed because I love spinach artichoke dip and there was about 2 pieces of artichoke in it and maybe 4 pieces of spinach. I'm serious! It was not good. On the water, deck has great views. Has full bar also. Went on a Monday after a busy weekend and many items were not available. Apparently out of bacon, and Reuben, some fish. My friend and I visited Windjammer for the first time because we wanted to enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the water. Unfortunately, what should have been a pleasant experience turned into one of the most frustrating dining experiences I've ever had. When we arrived, the hostess handed me a parking pass and simply told me to place it visibly in my windshield. As first-time customers, I assumed it was simply proof that we were patrons of the restaurant. That was my mistake. I did not closely inspect the pass and did not realize there was a handwritten expiration time on it. We ordered appetizers, meals, and two margaritas each. The food was okay, but not particularly memorable. Service was extremely slow throughout the visit. We were offered additional drinks and dessert, which naturally gave us the impression that there was no issue with how long we were sitting there enjoying our meal. When we were ready to leave, it took quite a while to receive our bill, have our payment processed, and get our receipt back. Our total bill was around $200, and we left a $50 tip. As we walked outside, my friend jokingly asked if the truck being loaded onto a tow truck was mine. To our disbelief, it actually was. The tow truck driver informed me that my parking pass had expired. Only then did I realize there was a handwritten time on the pass. The pass expired at 5:43 PM. Our receipt shows we paid our bill at 5:54 PM. In other words, we were still inside the restaurant as paying customers when the tow truck was called. The most disappointing part wasn't even the towing itself. It was the response from the staff afterward. When we went back inside seeking an explanation, instead of showing any understanding or concern, we were essentially asked whether we could read and why we hadn't read the ticket. There was no acknowledgment that we were first-time customers. No acknowledgment that we had spent approximately $250 at the restaurant. No acknowledgment that we had just left a generous tip. No apology. No attempt to understand how a customer might miss a handwritten time on a parking pass that was handed to them with no verbal explanation. What I genuinely want to know is what the expected protocol is for customers who are dining, having drinks, socializing, and spending money in the restaurant. Are customers expected to interrupt their meals to check their parking pass? Are they supposed to leave the table and get a new pass? Should servers remind guests when their time is about to expire? None of that was explained. I completely understand having parking restrictions. What I don't understand is towing the vehicle of an active paying customer who is still inside the restaurant and then treating that customer as though they're the problem for being upset. The entire situation felt unfair and unnecessarily hostile. Had someone simply said, "Please be aware there is a 2.5-hour limit on the parking pass," or "Your pass is about to expire," this whole situation could have been avoided. Went here for my birthday dinner today and the appetizers were good but I ordered the filet dinner and the waiter said they accidentally made me a ribeye and it took about 40 mins to come out then they brought me something that looked like a hamburger patty? Idk what that was but it was super flat and gross looking and the fries were stale. So I sent it back, I'm not paying $51 for a hamburger patty. Had them remake it. I ordered medium well which is supposed to have a slight pink to it and it was completely brown well done and wasn't a good cut of steak at all. The waitress was really sweet but I do not understand what's going on in that kitchen and this is not the waitresses fault (she was great!) They did offer me a free slice of cake, which I didn't want after seeing that steak I lost my appetite. They did take it off my bill bc I really didn't want to eat anything on that plate. We've been coming to the Windjammer since the 1980's. We have usually always had a great meal (the clam chowder is the best!), until yesterday. Our server was excellent, and my clam chowder was delicious, but my husband's $16.00 !!! fish sandwich was a joke. It had one little tiny piece of fish on it - mostly bun. If he hadn't gotten the add on fries - (because even though it was $16 they were not included) he would have needed to stop and get dinner on the way home. It was an embarrassment for your restaurant to serve that - we were very disappointed and sad to say after 40+ years of supporting you...we will not be back. They treated us so bad when realized our vehicle was getting towed. we waited forever for our server. she brought me the bill, I immediately put my card in there and then we never saw her for 25 min. then once she picked it up she took another 10 to bring it back. our $50 filet that was supposed to be cooked medium, was well done. the filet we wanted medium rare was almost rare. and sides were cold to the touch. after all this waiting we walk out just to find our vehicle being put on a tow truck! when we asked why we were getting towed, he laughed at us and said we were over our tie limit and it wasn't his problem, then just walked back in the building. they had employees everywhere staring at us smirking like we were on hidden video. absolutely uncalled for! read more

Dined on Memorial Day. Made a special trip to do so, party of four. I rarely, if ever, leave reviews unless they are positive but the owner deserves every word of this to be posted. The bruschetta appetizer had no basil and the bread was not toasted, making it an awkward-to-eat soggy mess. The perch was overcooked, with at least two tablespoons of grease on the plate. As soon as I cut into the first piece, the breading fell off. I ordered a side of pasta with garlic and oil. What I received was a dish of cold overcooked spaghetti with nothing on it...when I politely told the waitress, she said "did you check underneath it?" I tossed it a bit for her to see and she agreed it was dry but said the kitchen was closed. She was kind, brought me a baked potato. That was brown but the gesture on her part negated that issue. The couple we were with were clients so we made the best of it and didn't say anything else. The chicken caprese was good, as were the house salads. Fair enough right? Oh yes, we received no bread. Still, no big deal. I called and spoke to the owner, introducing myself, at which time he did not offer that same courtesy. Now that I see the other reviews, I'll bet you an overcooked perch dinner at the Windjammer that I had the pleasure of talking to Richard. Yes, I asked for a credit for my dinner and the bruschetta (did not demand one), after I took the time to share what was good that we ordered. He became irate, without exaggeration. He told me Lake Erie perch is supposed to fall apart (uhm...it wasn't the fish that fell apart but rather the breading) and that he only made $6 on "that dinner." Raising his voice, he said the bruschetta had basil in it; it absolutely did not and his bullying narrative can't change that fact. My first thought was that business must be great to treat a customer who just spent $150 so poorly. A customer who did not enjoy their meal, and for good reason. But business must not be that great because he behaved so egregiously, hanging up on me. Yes, I told him I'd be leaving this review. It's not that I will not return because of the perch and bruschetta but rather because he was a tyrant. A simple apology and no credit...rest assured I'd not be leaving this review. Buyer beware, stick to a burger because he has neither the diplomacy nor the professionalism to run a higher end restaurant capable of serving anything beyond the basics. I understand holiday dining can be chaotic. I understand new cooks, off nights and season kick offs, but I have zero tolerance for the lack of accountability and rudeness he demonstrated. The other restaurants in Lexington were booming, no tables available. The Windjammer...empty on the inside and only about five parties outside on the first sunny day in two weeks. Now I know why. Final note...if you think I'm embellishing, check out his responses to others who have graciously patronized his restaurant...his rebuttals offer 100 percent denial, some in all caps, telling those people they should have stayed home. Sunday afternoon happy hour on the patio. Pleasantly surprised to find live music to go with our water view. After a bumpy start waiting a long time in the hallway to get seated, and and another very long wait to eventually be greeted by a server, things went better. The ginger margarita was a wonderful unique drink. Spouse had a Stella on draft. Because I don't resist local flavors, I ordered the Michigan cherry salad and added steak. The salad was huge, the dried cherries were plentiful and the steak was perfectly medium and sliced over the top. We shared the greens, while I ate the meat. The salad dressing was a brilliant pink from cherry juice and both sweet and savory in a good way. Spouse had a pepperoni pizza and it was excellent. A really nice wood fired crust. The Windjammer is a good experience for a variety of reasons. First of all, they have outdoor seating right on Lake Huron. If the weather permits, definitely sit outside under the covered area or at a table with an umbrella. Secondly, they offer live music on Fridays-Sundays. We visited about 1:30 on Saturday afternoon and we really enjoyed the Ian Smith Trio. Lastly, the food was good. I really enjoyed my Ribeye and mixed drink. The baked potato and veggies were very average. One thing I will say is the service wasn't spatular. The hostess stand was very backed up (even though there were empty tables everywhere) and the older woman was very rude. I've read that from other reviews so not sure why they keep her around. Owner? Family? There's just no need for her to be the first impression. We also waited a very long time to be waited on even after I told a manager we had been waiting some time. So mixed reviews on this one. I wouldn't be against trying it again but it's definitely not a must visit. read more

But, the view out on the river was spectacular. The restaurant does have indoor and outdoor seating. Afterwards, we ventured inside the bar. The bartender (didn't catch his name), was knowledgeable of the current beers on tap. The establishment has a "Bottoms Up" system. It fills your glass from the bottom up. Based on the location alone, Windjammer could serve and charge anything, and be quite successful. So it's great to know that the food is pretty dang delicious, even if it is a little pricy and the service is really off. First, a shout out to our waiter. I think his name is Jordan, a young man with bleached blonde hair. He was super attentive, and really made our evening. But the women that sat us, the bar staff, and basically everyone else we interacted with... just not great. When we arrived at the restaurant, we had to wait for 30 minutes in the public patio area, and my friends all ordered drinks from the bar. Unanimously they were declared not very good, and oddly when ordered again after being sat, they were decidedly better, coming from the same bar. The only difference seemed to be the plastic cups being swapped for glass. But back to the food, we all loved what we ordered. The table tried fried fish, a wrap, a wedge salad and me? Well I ordered prime rib served medium, with a side of green beans. But instead, I was served a well done rib eye, which for all of you beef eaters out there, you'll understand my concern and confusion. Thankfully, the rib eye, while over cooked and not prime rib, was delicious, though surprisingly salty. All in all, we'll be back, but I think next time we'll go a little earlier because it fills up quick on a sunny summer evening. My family, friends and I were looking forward to a nice day on the patio, but the day was completely ruined by the unbelievably rude behavior of the owner. We were simply enjoying our time and conversation when, out of nowhere, the owner came over and told us we needed to leave within 30 min for no reason despite the fact that we were paying customers and had done nothing wrong. Worst owner interaction ever... 6 of us arrived on Saturday August 9th at 1:30 as the lunch rush was ending. Got seated right away, sat for 15 minutes with no one even acknowledging us. At 20 minutes asked a server if they could ask someone to take drink order. Nothing. At 30 minutes we walked up to bar to get our own drinks. A woman in our group went up to the server stand where a gentleman was standing to oversee things. We told him it had been 30 minutes with no server. He said our server had spilled water on her shirt and was changing. She told him that he should at least send someone to our table to acknowledge us and take a drink order. At that point he said "If you don't like it here you can F*@king leave". It escalated from there where the whole restaurant could hear. We asked to speak to a manager and he said he was the owner (Richard).
