I love the cozy lodge atmosphere: it's pretty spacious inside, clean, and not too noisy (able to have good conversations without shouting). The server was also pretty attentive and friendly. Here's the food I tried: - Tater logs: giant delicious tater tots with cheese inside - "Walleye": It wasn't true walleye, but Alaska Pollock. However, I appreciate they disclosed that. It had great flavor and texture similar to lake walleye. The green beans were fresh and the rice pilaf was very flavorful with carrots and celery (not packaged minute rice) - Catfish: heavy breading, humongous portion. Catfish was never my favorite fish and this didn't change my mind. I appreciate the big portions, quality food, and great atmosphere. This place has the absolute best chicken pot pie I have ever had. The crust on top of it was beautiful. It was a piece of artwork, almost too pretty that I didn't want to eat it. Get a chicken pot pie, you won't be disappointed. Everyone else at my table also seemed to enjoy their meal. Although three of us ordered chicken pot pies so we didn't just like our meals but loved them. Our server was very friendly and took a few pictures of my table all together. She offered to take as many as we wanted and told us we could move by the fireplace for a better picture. Not only was the service and food excellent. The restaurant is the cutest stone lodge. From the outside it's a cool looking building but when you walk in the real magic starts. This restaurant has a cozy vibe feel to it. There were moose, a fox, a beaver and deer all around. We all had to stop to take a picture with the fox. We also went in during christmas time so all the animals had christmas hats on them! The decorations in this restaurant are adorable. Off-season during the last weekend of winter, and we rolled in an hour before close on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was completely alive, with wall-to-wall people, and we were quickly welcomed over to a well-lit table. The vibe is very 'rustic lodge', and there is no question you're in Michigan. The food is homemade, and every one of our completely different entrees was cooked with a level of attention that one might not expect so close to the end of service. Honestly, the fact that the food we ordered was so well made at the end of the day, shows the kitchen cares. My rib-eye and green beans were perfectly cooked, and my wife's greek pizza looked fantastic. Friends ordered a giant chicken pot pie that was loved, and some fried fish and fries along with giant drinks. Everyone was happy. The Stone Lodge is ideal for a night out, whether you're looking for something romantic or a fun dinner with friends. We stopped there an hour before their grill closed and were not only pleased by their wide ranging menu but the food was "out of the park"! From beginning to end, one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The hostess was rude. Was it because we asked for a better table than the one by the door? Without a word she marched us to a soaking wet table we had to dry with the napkins. The waitress wasn't much friendlier and served our salad before the appetizers, without apology, saying the appetizer is coming soon and don't worry, I didn't put your order in yet. She still rushed everything as I barely started the appetizer when the entree came. But first, My salad was approximately 1/4 brown lettuce and the rest was quite limp. My wife's was decent. When she brought the appetizer she mentioned it was a size for four people. I wish she would have said that when we ordered the portobello fries. They tasted good but the sauce that goes with it was enough for about 1/4. It was laughable. Then the entree came. My wife had the walleye, which I've always liked there. It was overdone and dry. I got the "market price" perch. It too was dry, overcooked and bony. The lemon wedge was so tiny and dry I only got a few drops. Not worth the $32 I later learned was the price. Most other local restaurants charge $18-$21. At least the baked potato and vegetable was fairly good although there was no bread and that should be served with any bony fish. The bathroom was filthy and the ambiance was sub par. The last time I was here, the service was bad and the food was fair. It used to be a favorite place to go so I gave it another chance for my birthday today. Needless to say, I will never go back and you can bet I will spread the word. read more

We stopped in a couple weekends ago for dinner. We have tried this place in the past and never had great luck. The building is fantastic, the staff was friendly, and they have a nice size menu. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered the pulled pork nachos (I believe it was a special). I ordered an Alaskan red ale and received some sort of fruity beer...o well. It still went down fine. My dinner was pretty good, fish was cooked well, the vegetable side was nice, the fries were GFS "crispy fries" or whatever ( the coated fries that stay crispy even when they're cold). My 3 star rating is for my meal. My wife's Nachos came out completely burnt. As the waitress sat them on the table I was amazed they even made it to a plate let alone my table. The smell of burnt food was present the entire time it sat there. After our meal, the waitress asked if everything was OK with the nachos. I politely said they smell and taste as burnt as they looked. She said she was going to grab the manager. I asked her not to bother and that we would take our bill. I paid our bill (including the nachos that weren't eaten), left a 20% tip and considered it a lesson learned. read more

Super cute rustic decor. Be prepared for lots of taxidermy. Our server Rochelle was lovely. Dinner consisted of steak bites, appetizer, Perch dinner main, & a Caesar salad. Perch was great. I would pass on the Caesar as it felt like it was "salad in a bag." It was redeemed by a delicious piece of bread. Steak bites were good - think deconstructed french dip. The food was excellent. Seriously the portobello mushroom fries could be just a meal themselves, they were SO delicious. Our waiter was attentive, helpful and friendly. The prices were great for what we received. I was worried that it would be loud with the setup but it was not. We were comfortable. One complaint was the entrance is odd. We couldn't figure out where to go to give our names, and were told twice to stand in this doorway and they would get to us and then two sets of (obviously) locals walked past us to the hostess who was in the other room and then were seated before us. I also did not like that they did not inform us that there was a surcharge if you used a credit card to pay. My friend and I heard good things about the Stone Lodge so we thought we'd give it a try. The place itself looks like a house or B&B with a cozy atmosphere including a fireplace. It was decorated for fall/Halloween and I've seen pictures of it decorated for Christmas. We started by sharing the portabella fries which were served with a yummy horseradish sauce. We definitely enjoyed these spear shaped mushrooms and the sauce. As far as our main dishes, we had a really difficult time deciding so we asked the waitress for some recommendations. My friend went with the portabella chicken on mashed potatoes. She wasn't impressed - it was very bland and lacking spice. I ordered a meat lovers personal pizza. It was a good size and the toppings were generous. I did not like the beef on it - it had a strange taste and the sauce was a little sweet. Pizza isn't something I'd order again if visiting. Stopped into TSL for dinner this past Friday. After 45 minutes we got a seat. Ordered firecracker shrimp as an appetizer. There was not a lotta bang to the appetizer. Thought to myself, not sure I will ever be coming back to this establishment. Dinner side salads were ok (not great/not bad). Dinner arrived not long thereafter. I ordered the Walleye dinner and the wife ordered BBQ chicken mac and cheese. I changed my mind about the establishment after receiving these meals. Not only were the dinners excellent in regards to taste, but the portions were extremely generous. The prices were reasonable as well. The ambience of the restaurant was pleasant. The only bad thing was the table of 6 older gals next across from us. The one lady was so loud that I feel that we should have been part of the conversation. The only saving grace was that when her food arrived, she finally had something in her mouth to quiet her for a short while. If married, I am absolutely sure that hubby must have been overjoyed to have some time away from her ;-) Not the restaurant's fault. I wanted to share the whole TSL experience. I came to this place with high hopes of delicious. I left unsatisfied. This place is decorated cute. It's rustic and lots of fun lights strung around. I started my meal with a mule and the portabella fries. The fries were yummy. My friend and I really liked the horseradish dipping sauce. My mule was good but weak on alcohol. Dinner was portabella Parmesan chicken with mashed potatoes. The potatoes completely lacked flavoring. It was like they were cooked and no butter or spices were added. The chicken was large but it was thin and it wasn't high quality chicken. For a $30 plus dinner I would definitely expect quite a bit more. I won't be returning. read more

Really nice place to stop along the Lake Huron shoreline. The place was very clean and decorated so nicely it felt festive and welcoming. The hostess was very friendly and offered a refreshment while we waited. Arrived during the dinner rush but only waited 10 minutes to be seated. Waitress was bubbly and offered suggestions on the menu which I went with. Portions where good and the taste of there steak was to die for. Prepared perfect and really juicy. The manager came over and we talked for a couple of minutes and he suggested a local winery and told of the history of the stone lodge. This was my second time at The Stone Lodge, but the first time for my husband. He had the perch and I had the St. Louis Style Ribs. The perch was piled high and the ribs were "fall of the bone" tender. Although there was a bit of a wait, it wasn't too bad for a Saturday night. The atmosphere was great, very cozy and charming. It makes you feel like you're at a cabin up north and don't care what the weather is like outdoors. The menu is varied and has a pretty good selection of basically comfort American food. I had driven by this place, literally HUNDREDS of times, while traveling to 'Points North', before my Wife & I stopped in, on 1/29/22 - A Saturday... We arrived about 6pm, & after a short wait, we were seated in a Prime Table Spot, at the far end of the Dining Room, Near the Large, welcoming Fieldstone Fireplace...Nice!!! Our Timing seemed to be on the front end of their 'Dinner Service', as the Dining Area was about half full, with steady Diner Traffic arriving... We were warmly Greeted by Josh L., our Server for the evening, & had Beverages quickly in hand, while we perused the 'Starters', & Entree Choices. We picked the Sliced, Battered Portobello Mushrooms, which was EXCELLENT, as well as the 'Firecracker Shrimp'...both with Accompanying dipping sauces, both Delicious.... For Dinner, my Wife chose the Deep Fried, Battered Walleye, with a Salad, Mashed Potatoes, & Fresh Vegetables - Highlighted by the Tasty, Vibrant Green Beans. She said the Fish was very well prepared, & Delicious!! --- I had the 14 Oz. Ribeye, with Baked Potato, Green Beans, & Dinner Salad as well... The Steak was prepared 'Medium' to Perfection, Pink throughout the middle, Cool in the very center, otherwise Hot, Exactly as I had requested.... What a DELIGHT to Discover an Excellent Ribeye Steak, in the Heart of Michigan's Thumb!!! My Wife closed out with the Unique Mexican Coffee, which was tasty as well. Had the pleasure of eating here again. I had the Fish dinner and it was AMAZING. It included a salad, vegetable, choice of potato, dinner roll, and plenty of fish. Quite honestly may have been the best prepare fish I ever had.
